Help out your local shelters!

Hi everyone. I have a shameless plug for our local animal shelter- the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society. They are in need of many items like Kongs, toys, blankets, chewy snacks, etc. This got me thinking. There are probably countless shelters that need these kinds of items. Please check in your community and find out what your local humane society or animals rescue could use. My mom and I brought a whole bunch of toys to one in our neighborhood and it made me feel all warm inside. I think we should do as much as we can for our fellow puppies and kitties who are waiting for great homes! What do you say?

The Revenge of the Banana Slug!

You will never guess what happened to me. This morning, my mommy took me outside to go potty. As I was circling around ( you know, looking for that perfect spot) I saw this huge, 5 inch, yellow, slimy creature slithering around on the ground. Well, I didn't know what to make of it! I looked at it. I sniffed it. I barked at it. It just kept on sliding along in my potty spot. Finally, I decided to lean down and take a bite. "No, no, Abbey," my mommy exclaimed! I guess that Banana Slugs are pretty yucky... and they numb your mouth! I would have hated that. To my dismay, I left the Banana Slug on the ground and went back inside. I have gone outside several times since my initial slug sighting, but the little guy is nowhere to be found. I wonder where he went. It is a mystery.

Wow everyone! I got chosen for Diary of the Day. Thanks for the honor! Today is a pretty lazy day. I am at home with my daddy and we are just watching movies. I watched Gladiator... and I barked and barked at all of the horses. I don't know what I would do if I ever saw one in real life!

Well, I'd like to take this chance to give a big woof-woof to all of my pals and to the puppies in all of my groups! You guys are so adorable! I absolutely love Dogster and all of the wonderful dogs that I have met. Dogster rules!

The Choir Concert

My daddy is a high school vocal music director. Last night I went with my mom, my grandparents, and my aunties to see my daddy's concert. I got to sit in the front row with the human-folk! My mom was going to make me wear a sweater, but thankfully, it was a bit to snug (please see the previous diary for more details). I really loved going to hear the choir sing. But sometimes, I want my daddy's attention- even if it is in the middle of a song. I tried to quietly "speak", but he could not hear me. Then I decided to give out a louder bark. The people around me thought that I was cute... but I don't think my daddy thought I was all that amusing.

Next time, I am going to sing along.

Here are some of my suggestions for future concert songs:
1. "Who let the dogs out"
2." How much is that doggie in the window"
3. "Hound Dog"
4. "Joy to the world" Three Dog Night

Any more suggestions?

D-Day

To day is D-Day- diet day! This is the first official day of my new health plan. I am switching to low cal dog food and eating lots of raw foods. I like sugar snap peas! Yum! I am also walking in the evenings with my mom. Now this isn't your normal stroll to Albany Park. Oh, no! This is "power-walking" with very few stops to sniff the local bushes and doggie hang-outs, I must add. Well, it's all for the best...so my vet tells me. And I really don't want to end up back in his office for another check-up. I'll keep you posted.

I'm addicted to playing ball

Hello. My name is Abbey and I am addicted to playing ball. When I wake up in the morning, the very first thing I do is seach for my ball. Then I like to bring it to my mom and dad so that they can throw it for me. Even if they are sleeping, I find that if I drop the ball on their heads, they wake up! (That does not mean that they will play with me!) Playing fetch is better than eating all the turkey in the world or chasing 100 squirrels!

What is this frost stuff?

This morning, my mommy took me outside at 6:58 AM just as usual. I noticed that it was particularly cold. (I live in the East Bay and so our temperatures don't ever get extremely hot or cold.) Well, as I stepped off of the porch and onto the ground, I heard a crunching sound. And then the cold set in. There was this stuff all over the grass. It felt like the shaved ice my mommy gives me in the summertime! I jumped back in the house, but my mommy said I had to stay outside and go potty. So, I sucked it up and went out into the frost. It wasn't so bad afterwards, though. While my mommy got ready for work, I jumped into her bed and warmed my muddy, cold, wet paws under her sheets! he he he

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! This year I have some resolutions that I would like to share.
1. Of course, the age old "go on a diet" thing. I mean it, though. I want to lose a few pounds so that my knees don't get sore.
2. Exercise every day. I love chasing the ball, so the running and jumping and playing thing is covered!
3. My daddy says that I should work on my barking... mainly, to stop barking at strangers. I love to protect my people and my house, so I let everyone around me know when someone new is around. Maybe I'll work on that. We'll have to see :)
4. Finally, I want to help find homes for Cavaliers that are in rescues. I want to continue to raise money for the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society (at the Bay to Barkers) and maybe even be a rescue big-sister for a homeless Cavalier!

Well, those are my big goals. Of course, some things will never change- like my love for getting my feet muddy and then walking around on the carpet, chasing squirrels out of the park, and snacking with my Grandpoppy.

I wish everyone a wonderful 2006!

Christmas is here!

This Christmas was a very busy time of year. I loved UNwrapping all of the presents that my mom just finished wrapping, especially the kitty sardine treats for the Persian cats who live down the street. I enjoyed playing with the wrapping paper tubes, too. They were fun to chew and rip apart. I got some pretty neat things from Santa. I got some puppy stairs so that I can get up onto my parents' sleigh bed all by myself! Finally- a bed that I can really stretch out in! I also got a small, pink bed for me. Do my people actually think that I would rather sleep in my pink bed on the floor than on the big bed with them? Hmmmm. My favorite Christmas present is actually a cat toy! It is a small brown feather on a long stick. I just love to try and rip it apart! Check out my photo album for pictures of my Christmas adventures!

Halloween

My mom helped me dress up for Halloween as Snow White. She was the Evil Queen. We went together to visit her Second Grade class and I walked with her in the parade. I was a little scared of all of the kids in their costumes and I was so happy to get in the car, tear my costume off, and just relax on the back seat.
