Ozwald Locomotive's Mom in aVancouver posted some educational clips found about our dear bully dogs on the net. It's a bit graphic but it's for a good cause!
Please don't hate pit bulls without knowing them first. Just like people, they are not all the same. They may have like natures but these guys are not all like the ones you see on the news... Help the responsible pit bull owners share what they know about this breed and bring to light the positive aspects of responsible pit bull ownership.

Ellie is on the small-side but she still gets wary stares from strangers on the street (but I'd say that more people smile at her!). And I am okay with people not liking dogs in general but when the law steps in to restrict one from keeping their beloved pet because of its breed... you have to wonder what they will tell us we can't do next. Sharing a home with a pit bull is not the same as owning an exotic lion in your backyard. I keep my pet in my house and when outdoors Ellie is always on a sturdy harness and leash, under control. I am so afraid of one day hearing about about SB 861 being passed in my city...

I Have Frankenstein Scars...

Not very long after we first adopted this little girl (she looked like a funny little white goat in the beginning) at 4 months of age, Ellie got out of the backyard where she was sniffing the backyard plants while my Dad was working in the garden. She somehow got the door leading to the garage open and ran out into the street and was hit by 2 cars (according to our neighbors who were outside at the time). It was the most terrifying experience for all of us to hear our little dog running in the street right ourside our front door and hear the screech of cars as everyone tried to run to her to get her back to the safety of the house. All of our hearts just dropped upon hearing those tires screeching... probably one of the worst moments that our family has had. Dad brought our limp girl back to the house in his arms and she was white all over... her gums and around her eyes... and shivering from shock. The man that hit her with his car (and we imagined that the experience was just as bad for him to hit an animal with his car) ran to our house, too, to say how sorry he was. He could have just kept going since it was not his fault that Ellie ran across his path like she did, but he came in to see her. I never got his name but I wish I could tell him now how much we appreciated his gesture. But everything was a blur at that moment and we rushed her to our vet who is only 2 blocks away. Afterwards we had to take her to the emergency pet hospital where she stayed overnight. She was very lucky and her worst injury was a broken leg. She ended up having two surgeries to fix her broken leg- one to put in the metal post and another to shave it down.. was too long and uncomfortable for her to put pressure on that leg the first time so that her leg muscles couldn't build back up that way. Today she is one very perky and athletic dog with no obvious problems getting around!! All she has to show for it are her Frankenstein-like leg scars that don't seem to bother her one bit and she no longer runs out when the door is open. Maybe an angel was watching over her that day... and boy are we grateful!
