Quick Bio:
-purebred

Birthday:
June 30th 1994

Likes:
Family/friends, being center of attention and fetch.

Pet-Peeves:
Nail trims, ice salt, being left home alone, puppies that haven't been taught manners, and aggressive pit bulls.

Favorite Toy:
Stuffed cheeseburger, talking bear, hedge hog, squeaky hippo, squeaky football, singing Barney, frisbee, tennis balls. Pretty much any new toy, especially spherical ones with squeakers and no appendages.

Favorite Food:
Cheese, roast chicken, green beans, eggs, bacon, licking the plate. But especially cheese, the stinkier the better.

Favorite Walk:
Anywhere with lots of people to shmooze, children to entertain, balls to retrieve, and shrubs to sniff.

Best Tricks:
He can get ANYONE to play fetch with him. Anyone! Any time! Any place!

Arrival Story:
Nestor was born in a suburb of Kyiv, Ukraine. I was living/working in Eastern Europe at the time and had been thinking of getting a dog. Was on my first fact-finding mission with no intent to purchase a dog anytime in the next few months. But the chemistry was strong. Our eyes met and I was hooked. Nestor was only a few weeks old, downy like a little chick, very inquisitive and crawling all over his sibling trying to get over to say “hello!” I fell in love. 15 minutes later I was driving home with an exuberant fluffy puppy.

Bio:
Nestor is classic collie. He is a true family dog; a natural with children. My husband and I don't have any yet, but every time I see Nestor with children, I swear the look in his eye says, “When are we getting one of those?” Nestor is gregarious and charismatic, drawing crowds of people on every visit to the park through his mid-air frisbee/ball/stick catching, tail wagging, eye-contact, dolphin-like smile and good looks. Loves to be looked at and just beams when applauded. He appears often in photo albums as he loves to pose for photos with tourists visiting Boston. Nestor has served as a therapy dog in Boston-area nursing homes. He is particularly effective with this crowd. In addition to having that knack for drawing smiles out of even the toughest cases, he reminds this demographic of fond childhood memories. Collies were the retrievers of that generation -- popular, that is -- and many nursing home residents' eyes swell with tears when they see Nestor for the first time as they recall a beloved pet from their past. Nestor has some herding instinct. He also "talks," another collie trait -- "roo-ing" (those familiar will know exactly what I mean) and that shrill attention-getting collie bark. The latter is not pretty but it achieves its purpose -- one will do anything to get him to stop.
