Life Of A Beagle In Foster Care

I feel soooo icky

I didn't even want to eat my breakfast this morning. I can tell my foster mom is worried, but I'm just so tired and I'm sick of having a drippy nose. She says she is going to change my antibiotic and hope that it will help.

I didn't even want to eat my boiled chicken and turkey, that's how bad I feel. The other dogs think I'm crazy, but they wouldn't be hungry either if they felt the way I do.

Will the snot ever end?

My foster mom says she feels so bad for me because I am just so filled with snot. I feel bad too! I have to breath through my mouth and I can't smell my food (although the good thing about that is now I get fresh boiled chicken! Yum!). My foster mom says she's going to get something called a nasal aspirator that will help get some of my snot out. I think my foster dad plans on being in the other room when that happens.

I slept a lot yesterday. Being up and around even for a little bit makes me tired. And it was so hot outside I could hardly breath at all.

I like it when I get to sit with my foster mom and she holds me and pets me and wipes my nose. This is a very nice place and I'm glad I'm here.

Ick! I don't like baths!

I had my very second bath last night. They gave me one at the shelter because I was sooooo stinky. I got one last night because my skin is kind of dry and flakey and my foster mom has a special shampoo for it. It felt good, but I was scared of the water and tried to get out of the sink. My foster dad had to hold me and calm me.

I did like the snuggles in the towel afterwards, even if my foster mom stuck Q-tips in my ears and cleaned out stuff she called "gunk".

I've been able to run around a bit more, which is nice. I'm still not really used to the steps that go outside, and there's a weird screen thing hanging in the doorway (foster mom says to keep out mosquitoes, but I don't think it works because the humans are always itching). Ha ha!

I don't like having to sit in my crate so much, but my foster mom says I can't go out and about away from the house until I'm spayed and not so snotty.

My foster mom clipped my two front dewclaws last night too - it was a regular beagle spa night! I was so good I didn't wimper or pull my paw back or anything! I hear that Della is a "drama queen", whatever that is, whenever she gets the spa treatment.

I think life is pretty good. Even with baths.

Wow! What a yard!

I got to run around the yard this morning when all the other dogs were inside (so I don't sneeze on them). It was so exciting! So many smells! I peed and pooped and my foster mom said "Good girl! Good girl!" so I know I was supposed to do that.

It's hard to fall asleep sometimes because I cough and sneeze. I got to taste some delicious cherry stuff that my foster mom says is Robitussin, and the humidifier with the nice smell helps too. I got more peanut butter last night AND this morning! I like peanut butter! A lot!

My foster mom says I am so good in my crate, and she gives me lots of pets and kisses when I come to her when she calls me. I am already used to my new name (I can't even remember what I was called before!).

I hope I stop sneezing soon so I can get spayed and then play with the other dogs!

Wow!

What a change in my circumstances! Just last week I was sitting in a kennel at the SCPA, wondering why my owners weren't picking me up. Now I'm sleeping in a soft and warm crate and going for walkies and being petted and played with. What happened??

In my old life I lived in the yard where I had a couple of litters of puppies. My owners fed me, and I think the children walked me a few times, but that was about it. My new foster mom says I have heartworm, which is a bad thing. She doesn't think my old owners ever took me to the veterinarian.

One day after they took away my last litter I was so sad and bored that I finally finished digging under the fence and I got out. But it was a scary world out on the streets until a nice person got me and put me safely in the SPCA. At least I had regular food and people saying how cute I am and stuff.

My foster mom says it's a good thing she came along because I look pretty bad and people wouldn't be able to see my winning personality through all my hair loss and general stinkiness. I also got a bad cold and my foster mom says I'm very snotty, whatever that means.

I just spent my first night in my foster home and it's sooooo nice! I have a warm, soft bed to sleep on and I get to go for walkies and I got peanut butter last night! I think there was something else in the peanut butter, but I didn't care - it tasted so good! I've never had that before!

There are other dogs in the house, but I'm being quarantined, whatever that means. So for right now I play with my foster mom and dad and my brand new, just for me, squeaky toy and I'm resting. I think I'll take a nap now!
