Arrival Story: Luna came with me from Europe. I had saved her from a bad situation in Berlin. For the first 7 months of her life Luna was locked up with her brothers and sisters in an apartment that was filled with animal excrement and waste. The man who had her was the owner of her parents who he kept in good health. Apparently he had at some point become overwhelmed and basically stopped feeding the puppies leaving them to die.
At the time i was looking for a companion for George and for Morgaine, my daughter, who was recovering from her stroke. Following up on an old flier he had left at my vets I went to see the puppies and was shocked at the conditions.
He brazenly told me the pups had not eaten in 2 days when it was obvious by their appearance that it had been far longer than that, he also would not give me the pups for free and wanted money for them.
In the end I walked out there with Luna and had my vet, who had a rescue, go back for the rest of them the next day. Here brothers and sisters all survived their ordeals and went on to become police service dogs. Luna stayed with me.
He initial condition was horrific she was starved to the bone and was in such bad shape she couldn’t even support her own weight. Flea infested and full of worms she was with 7 months only the sizes and weight of a puppy half her age. she was the height of a 3 month old puppy ...
I remember the ride home in public transportation; she smelled so bad and was so frightened that she could not stop shacking. People stared at me like they wanted to murder me, and I did not blame them because they was how I felt toward the guy that initially had Luna and her siblings... Eventually she made a full recovery and she is with me to this day- my old grand dame of Pooch :)

Bio: Luna today has changed a lot from the fearful a puppy she once was. She is now a friendly confidant and outgoing senior who is sadly slowing down a little but is mentally sharp as ever. I frankly cannot imagine a life without her and hope i will not have to in a long long time.
Luna is a born mother, she nurtures everything and everyone. In many ways if not in all she is “the perfect dog” always obedient yet never losing her spark, always protective and caring. She was nursemaid and mother to one of my cats Drusilla who was as was Yogi Taken away by my Ex. In 2003 one week before she was scheduled for spaying she became pregnant 2 feb 2004 she became the mother of a litter of 9 puppies from which 7 survived and 3 remained with me ...and no it was not planned and as advocate of spaying and neutering it is somewhat of an embarrassment
Luna is approaching her 12th birthday jan 2012 , I hope there are many more birthdays to come because my life is incomplete without her ...
