Cora has crossed the rainbow bridge

It is with great sorrow in my heart that I write this. Our beloved girl has crossed the bridge... she's been sick for weeks now and today her eyes told us that enough was enough. So we lovingly released her. I'll write more about her later.. but for now... I'm lighting a candle for her... and spending time with our other Newfs.

Godspeed my sweet girl. You were the best.. and we'll love you forever.

I got to go to the lake!

It was hot hot hot.. and thank goodness for the air-conditioning. Mom let me come out in the mornings with them, and in the evening. She made me stay inside during the hottest part of the day. I wanted to come out for visits, and she let me... but I figure out real quick that it was too hot and told her when I was ready to go back in.

Even though I'm a Newf, I've never been a big swimmer. I would have liked to gone out on the pontoon, but the one we use wasn't out... and Mom didn't want to take me on the other one cause it's new and they didn't want my hair all over it! Can you imagine?!?!?!? Mom felt bad for me.. she would have cleaned it up, but it was just better not to go there. Next time, I'll get a ride!

She did have a spray bottle filled with water, and she misted me alot, and that really helped. And, for a treat, she made me my very own snow cones! We have a snow cone maker up there, and she melted beef bouillon cubes, and froze them.. and then put them in the snow cone maker, and made snow cones. They were yummy and the best thing is that she brought it home! I can't wait for Kira, Ben & Yelda to try them!

Good Girl Gone Bad

Dear Diary...

My Mom wrote this in her blog the other day. It's all about me (and Ben...)

"This is not a blog about those cheesy info-mercials about wild girls... on the contrary. My normally placid, obedient Cora.. the one who I can depend on to always be good, the one who visited sick children in hospitals, the one who would let a troubled child brush her for hours despite the fact that she absolutely despises being brushed, has been a bit naughty. And please realize that I'm in no way suggesting she's a perfect angel.. because she has her mischevious moments. She is, however the closest thing to an angel I've got.

But today, she got a burr up her butt. I was outside with both Cora and Ben. Ben was on a leash, and Cora was loose. Ben was being a good boy and going about his business. Initally, Cora was doing the same. But then she got that look. And I knew.. I just KNEW! She looked this way, and then she looked that way, and then in a flash, she bolted. She took off into our neighbor's yard. I called to her to come.. but she either didn't hear me, or chose to ignore me.

At this point, Officer Benjamin Kramer-Fife arrived, and ordered in a "loud barking fashion" for Cora to cease and desist... in other worlds FREEZE! Cora didn't pay any attention- she views Ben as a "young whipper-snapper" and pays him no mind. She's actually like Aunt Bea refusing to listen to Sherriff Andy Taylor. And so, I moaned and grumbled, and took Ben inside. Of course, he didn't appreciate this at all. I then hurried back outside, and went to retrieve my little delinquent. She was happily moseying along, sniffing this, sniffing that. When I approached her, she just looked at me, almost happily... with a 'Oh.. you meant me?' expression on her face!

As so I scolded her and then escorted her inside and into her crate. I went about my morning routine... taking Kira & Yelda out.. feeding and watering the entire crew.. and getting ready for work. At one point, she tried to "make nice" with me, and I tried hard not to respond, thinking that maybe she'll understand that I'm really put out! HA! Yeah, like right! She know's I adore her.. and she may have known I was annoyed, but she also somehow knows that all will be forgiven. And it was. However, when I got home at the end of the day, she went out "on leash" and just sort of rolled her eyes at me. And then she kissed my hand."

I didn't mean to be naughty.. .it's just that I KNOW Jack the neighbor dog has good stuff to eat and I thought I'd go over and see if he would share. Mom & I are all made up now... and I'm being very good...

for now!

Oh my god. The other day we had sunshine and it was beautiful. I would have been thrilled to just sit in the yard and watch the squirrels and chipmunks play... but Noooooooooooooooooooooooo! That mean old Russell got out his brushes and took me outside and brushed me for TWO hours. I hate this. And Annie came out and kept me company, but she wouldn't rescue me. Instead, she just took a bunch of pictures and posted about me on her blog. How embarassing!!! Obviously, they don't care a bit about my dignity!!! And to think she called me Sasquatch? Geesh....... I love summer

I love summers because my Mom is at home alot more during the day. She and I spend lots of time together and she slips me quite a few treats!!! That's so neat!

They've not been putting me in my crate when they leave. I am happier when I can move from room to room and drink water when I want. But sometimes, something comes over me and I get a bit naughty! For example, just last night they were off teaching their puppy kindergarten class, and I dug an old potato chip bag out of Russell's waste basket, and tore it up. There weren't any chips left either... and I left too much evidence.

Annie giggled and thought I was silly. Russell wasn't exactly mad, and he didn't speak to me about it. But I've got to be more careful.....

Dogwood trees

SIGH- my Mom gets the weirdest ideas. She decided that since it's the Year of the Dog, and because we have a pretty dogwood tree in our yard, that "I" needed to have my picture taken by the tree. She even put some of the blossoms on my head, but they didn't turn out. It was a silly idea. Some of the other pictures did though and she said I was such a good girl for putting up with her, and she gave me an extra treat!

Of course I KNEW she would... why do you think I was so good??? :)

My Secret Santa

I had a Secret Santa! Her name is Lucy and she's a Newf from Richmond, Virginia. She sent me a box of goodies. And, WOW! Did she do a good job! She must have known that I love goodies to eat. I love my gingerbread cookies she sent me, and I grudgingly shared some with Kira, Ben & Yelda. Mom promised that she would save most for me! And, my chicken... it's sooooo cute! Mom's keeping it safe... cause if the other kids get it, well... it will be toast.

I was Secret Santa for Molly, a newf that lives in Ephrata, PA. I sent her the coolest toy and bag of treats. I hear that she really liked them!

My Mom added a picture of me looking at my gift. If you want to see tohers, visit:

Merry Christmas everyone!

Of course, I have a winter coat on all the time. My Mom is really good about keeping the A/C turned on, so that the house is nice and cool! I haven't been spending much time outside lately... I just go out when I need to take care of "business" and then I come back in. And WOW has it been hot!

Oh Good Grief....

I'm not exactly sure why, but Annie & I started Rally Obedience classes this week. Actually, it's not too bad, and everyone in our class has "the best" treats in their left pockets!!! Many of them gave me one. Rally seems kind of fun, but Annie really has to figure out what she's doing. I mean, I'm holding up my end of the bargain but she is sooooooooooooooooo confused. Sigh....

I helped!

I was Sailor's understudy a couple of weeks ago when he starred as Nana in the play Peter Pan. He did such a good job, that I never needed to go on stage. So instead, I got to meet all the kids before they went to see the play. They all hugged me and gave me lots of scratches and belly rubs. A really nice lady came and gave me my very own bag of treats for being such a good help!!! My Mom was so proud of me!!!
