The Chosen One

It was all about me,me,me,me,me! Or so I thought! Then my Mimi did a very strange thing. One day she came in from work with a weird black & white mutt trailing behind she called "J.J." He just walked right into my house, slumped down on the carpet and kept his head bowed for weeks. She claimed to have rescued him from a bunch of louts who had rejected him. No wonder, he was a rat terrier, not a weenie dog! Well, I just gathered up all my toys into a pile at the other end of the room and glowered at both of them. I like a good snit!
Over time, this "other dog" gradually won my heart over. He respected my space, and didn't try to eat my food or steal my toys or take away my Mimi. He really was quite amazing....his sunlit eyes and spring-loaded legs. The squirrels that used to tease me and the menacing cat next door...he chased them all away out of my yard. He became my hero. When the house burned and I nearly died, he didn't leave my side for weeks. When Mimi got sick and had to be in the hospital, I got so depressed without her there. He tried to cheer me up every day even though I know he was sad too. That's when I knew "J.J." was My Brother. (to be continued)
