Peaches was 5 years old and had never had a permanent home when I found out about her from a breeder over the internet. Although well-cared-for, but probably overbred, she was "lost" in a sea of rat terriers. She had been bounced around from one family to another all over Texas and was special to no one. She has suffered from severe bilateral hip dysplasia secondary to accidental dislocation ever since she was a baby. Her guardians said she was considered unadoptable and might have to be "put down" due to her age and disability. I drove like a bat of hell to Texas when I found out they were just going to give her to me.
When Peaches finally reached her forever home, she was tired, overweight
and a bit undersocialized with humans. It took quite some time for Peaches to learn how special she is and how to accept lots of attention and love. She likes to sit in Mimi's lap and sleep by my side every night. She loves lyng on Mimi's bed with "sisters" Candy and Gypsy and "brother" Sonny. She loves Jackie Blue but starts growling the minute Zorro comes near.
Peaches has never been a whiner, but I know she's has discomfort in her hips and back. In 2005 she was diagnosed with diabetes and glaucoma and went on to develop diabetic retinopathy resulting in the loss of her right eye and blindness in her left. She suffered tremendous pain in her eyes until her diabetes could be stabilized but is fairly comfortable now on Rimadyl and Pilocarpine eye drops. She never whines except when she gets her insulin shots. Everyone should take a lesson, she is totally unbothered by her blindness and her difficulty getting around.

When I'm gone...
No need to wonder if I ever think of you..
The same moon shines..
The same wind blows
And time is but a paper moon
Be not gone..
Hear my song and think of me
The way you've come to think of me
The nights grow long
But dreams live on
Just close your pretty eyes
And you can be with me
Let us cling together as the years go by..
Oh my life my love
In the quiet of the night
Let our candle always burn
Let us never lose the lessons we have learned....

Boy, I've had several good weeks without pain after my right eye was removed..I was so contented and relaxed, I slept every night with my paws pointed toward the ceiling fan. Peoples stared at first and wanted to know what happened. I guess it was a bit unsightly, the swelling and all. Now, Mimi, being the optimist she is, thinx I looks so coot with one eye in a "permanent blink". but Little Bit's boss ma'am came up with a cooter name...The Permanent Wink. We all said...oh, yeah, spiffy groovey cool...much cooter.
But...now my left eye is giving me trouble and it will probably have to GO within the month. I'm back on the Rimadyl until then. Goody-bye and owdeos, I can't wait to be permanently matched. Mimi sez I'll have an oriental look....
One more thingy...thanx everyone fer yor emails, pawmails, bones, Rosettes and Pup-Pal requests....Prayers were and are a BIGGY!
I'll keep you posted...Peachy^-~^
