Well, I wanted to write yesterday since it WAS my first official day as a New Yorker, but my mommy said she was too busy. What did it matter that SHE was busy. I am 9 weeks old. I could have done it myself. Personally, I think she was just being lazy, but I suppose I'll give her the benefit of the doubt -- this time.
I've been VERY busy! Yesterday, my first mommy, Dana, woke me up at 3 a.m.! We drove 2 1/2 hours from Burlington, CO to Denver where I boarded a plane en route to Newark, NJ. I was a little worried, but it was A-OK. Dana let me take two of my favorite toys and filled my travel kennel with lots of fluffy paper. I didn't get to ride in the same cabin with all the people on the airplane, but I was comfortable down below in Continental's pressurized, brightly lit and airconditioned, special cargo area. The flight lasted nearly four hours.
A nice man came to the airplane to get me and put me in an air-conditioned van. We drove to what he called "Terminal C" at Newark International Airport. That's where I first met my mommy and daddy! They came prepared with a new leather collar, leash, silver nametag, water and fresh baby carrots! It was all a bit overwhelming, but I took it all in stride -- kissing and snuggling with my new parents and posing for what I can only assume was the first of millions of photos my mommy will take throughout my life.
The three of us got into a fancy black car that took us through a long tunnel (mommy called it the "Holland Tunnel") and when we emerged on the other side daddy said, "Welcome to New York, Lenny!" Mommy thought I may have to potty so she let me hang out on the sidewalk for a while. There were just too many people to entertain to go potty! My public NEEDS me!
Needless to say, we came inside away from my hordes of fans and I checked out my new home. It is a pretty big place. I've been spending most of my time downstairs, but one of these days I'll learn how to climb the staircase so I can go upstairs all by myself.
I tried to play, but I was just TOO TIRED! It had been such a long day. I have to admit that I had two little accidents in the kitchen. It wasn't my fault though. Mommy didn't pay attention to the signs I was giving her so I just squatted on the tile. She picked me up and said, "NO!" It wasn't a very nice voice. I don't understand why she did that. I mean, I tried to tell her and she ignored me! So...it's really HER fault! Yep! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Anyway, I was so tired from all the excitement that I fell asleep at 8:30 p.m. while watching "Milo and Otis" with my parents. Mommy tried taking me outside again, but I was too tired to stand up so she brought me back inside and I went to bed in my little crate.
Mommy expected me to wake up a couple times during the night so she didn't sleep very well, but I fooled her! I slept through the entire evening and didn't wake up until mommy tried to go downstairs at 5:11 a.m. this morning!
Since then, I have played A LOT! Now that I'm used to this new place and have many hours of sleep under my belt, I'm raring to go!
Oh yeah! I got two treats and LOTS of squealing, happy praise from mommy this morning. I think we may have our signals worked out now. If I run into the kitchen near the door, mommy comes running after me and we head outside. AND! If I go potty outside, I get a treat and lots of praise and kisses! This is a GOOD deal! I'm going to do my best to remember the system, but I'm only 9 weeks old so I can't be expected to remember all the time, right?
Well, I'm pooped! I know it's only 7:30 a.m., but I think I'll take a nap anyway.
