Arrival Story:
The week of the Norwegian Buhund annual Specialty, my 14 year old Collie, crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I wasn't going to go to the Show, but I didn't want to disappoint my female Buhund, Colorado Rocksie. At the show I mentioned to our rescue coordinator that I would be interested in fostering a dog if one became available. Two days after the show, she called and said there was a 4 year old male, whose family was moving into a condo and he needed a home. I picked up Dakota on my birthday, and his birthday was the next day. I knew we were meant for each other.

Dakota had no formal training or socialization in his first 4 years, so I wasn't sure how well he would respond to training. What a surprise! I have been an obedience/agility instructor for many years and Dakota is the most enthusiastic dog I have had when it comes to working. We had to take time off from training for a year because of my knee injury. We've recently started again and I know he's looking forward to training and competeting. Dakota earned his Herding Instinct Title and UKC AGI title before my injury and now we're going to work on his AKC obedience titles. Even tho he's almost 10, he looks forward to going to class to "work" . Dakota crossed the bridge on Feb. 29, 2008.

I know Michael Jordan said it first, but I'M BACK, too. I am just about the happiest dog in the world. Mom's knees are feeling better and I finally got to go back to agility training. I have been sooo bored this past year since Mom had to take time off. No obedience classes, no herding, no agility!! That makes a working dog like me, very sad. I was glad to see all my friends, Skeeter and Scheiss, the Schnauzers, Klaatu the Akita, Maggie the Sheltie, Spirit the Bouvier and even Todd, a mixed breed who drives me nuts!. I had so much fun last night, running thru the tunnel, up the A-frame, and over all the jumps. Mom was very pleased with my performance, because last week I wasn't very focussed and I goofed around. I have my UCK Agility I title, so now we have to work on II. My sister, who crossed the bridge 3 years ago, almost had her Agility Champion Excellent Title. I have to work hard, and get all those "legs", so I can make Mom proud of me too. Last night when I snuggled up in my little bed, I dreamt about what I learned at class. Someday I will be a Champion Excellent too. Li'l Dum.
