Arrival Story:
We went to the Ace of Hearts Animal Adoption Fair looking to meet a different dog, a Border Collie mix named Clyde but his fosters did not show up. We were about to leave to go to another foster meeting across town when the volunteers asked us to take another look. Our family was in search a dog with specific traits, an adult dog who must be good with kids, our 10 year old cat and other dogs since we live in a dog-friendly neighborhood. "Well, what about Diesel?" the volunteer asked. I turned around and took one look at the rather LARGE brindle and white Bullboxer. To be honest, when I entered the Petco looking around he was the first dog to catch my eye with his grey/white face and tiger brindle markings. At first glance he was not the type we'd imagined we were going more for the Border Collie, Labrador type. Diesel looked intimidating, especially with the large scar across the front of his forehead (he had been attacked by another dog and required major surgery to close the injury to his head). But he was a cool customer, sitting back in his cage, not barking or making a fuss. He was looking at us like, "OK, I've been through this before." Even as we visited our other appointments that weekend and met the other dogs, our family kept thinking back on Diesel. Two weeks later he was laying down in our living room making himself at home. He's a joy to walk, friendly with all creatures great and small - and I mean, ALL - bunnies, ducks, Shetland ponies included. He is truly an Ambassador for his breeds!

Bio:
Diesel was found wandering the streets of Long Beach as a stray in Oct 2013. He was taken into the Long Beach humane society and rescued by Ace of Hearts.
