Best Tricks:

Arrival Story:
Beanie was one of 15 toy and miniature poodles a friend and I rescued and rehomed back in 2007. Beanie was one of 5 six week old babies and he was under a pound when rescued. He was named for the LL Bean Store which was at the exit on the Maine Turnpike where we met up to get the dogs. We couldn't place him as both my vet and I were convinced he had some serious medical issues and would break his new owners hearts when he failed to flourish. I kept him, and the rest is history!!!

Bio:
Beanie worked long and hard on obtaining his CD degree. He is an extremely shy dog with strangers and he would fall apart during the stand for exam. Finally, when I was ready to give up he earned his final leg and I promised him NO MORE SHOWS!!! He is my traveling buddy and has visited more states than most people!! He LOVES all other dogs and is my "dog police" during my puppy kindergarten obedience classes.

A new puppy????

Mother announced last week that she is on the search for another puppy. She wants a mini poodle, but also has feelers out for a toy one. I hope it's an either/or and not one of each!!!!!
Meanwhile, we are stuck in the regular dog yards cuz not only is the gate to the lab pen still frozen shut in TWO FEET of ice and snow, but the terrible wind and wet snow took out two whole sections of the stockade fence.
Mom said she might chop the ice to get the gate open but with that much fence missing, right on the road side, she wouldn't be able to relax at all if we went down there with her. I pointed out that perhaps just us mature adult dogs could go down there with her, she had the nerve to ask who those dogs might be!!!!!
As a result, we have had NO new photos of us cavorting in all this snow we have. She did take photos yesterday, but took them all from the porch, BOL!
The snow is still way, way too deep to make the trek down to the big yard, all the snow that is plowed goes on the lawn that we have to use to get down there so it is still five feet deep there. It's on the North side of the house so will probably melt some time in August or September.
Skye was bugging Mom to make a reservation for camping already...Mom said it was a bit early to think about sleeping outside in a tent, BOL! So far we have had to use the camping lanterns and the camping stove three times this Winter when the power went off. It has been an extremely LONG Winter here, BOL!
Tonight there are predicting another record low of somewhere below zero. Gosh, we were kayaking in March last year and this is the last week of March already.
To make it worse, they are also predicting a Nor'Easter to hit us tomorrow night and all day Wednesday. We are all hoping it stays out to sea so we won't have to see it!
Well, gotta go now, Mom is getting some baby chickies tomorrow night and we need to help her find the stuff for them!

We're REALLY Back now!!!

Sunday Mom got some new photos of us playing in the new snow. She wanted to put some on our pages but figured it would be a lost cause at this point.
Well, she went ahead and added some of them, would have done more but the site was SOOOO SLOOOOOOWWWWWWWW.
My MOm is the world's luckiest person. Things always seem to work out for her, no matter what it is. Example, she will go to bed at night worrying about a BIG bill due the next day that she can't possibly pay and, next morning, some long term boarding client will come in and prepay their board, or she will have someone call to buy something she has for sale, or stuff like that, it ALWAYS works out!
She won't buy lottery tickets because she feels that is taking advantage of her natural good luck, BOL! Oh well, she may be lucky but I never called her smart.
Where was I going with this, ohhh yes, I don't know if you have heard or not, but if not, go over to the Dogster Magazine and read the first notice...SM has announced they will NOT be closing the Dogster/Catster Community as they have acquired a partner to run it.
Lots of stuff is still up in the air, but the bottom line appears to be that WE, the Community did in fact do some things right and they, the sponsors, listened.
Puffy and Coco Rose and all...we shall pawty hearty on Friday nite!!!!

OMD, no more Dogster???

Gah, this is the worst news ever!!! As I look over at my gift boxes, I realize each of these gifts represent a brand new friend I have made here on Dogster!!! It is so sad to think that in just a few weeks my whole page with all my gifts and memories will all disappear, never to be seen again.
I hate when commerce bucks up against community. We ARE the community, and have been, in our case, since 2007, when I was but a pup. We have been thru good times, great times and terrible times of loss. All the while we KNEW we had friends on here, just a keystroke away, who could help make us feel better and actually BE better!!
Sadly, the community can't exist without the commerce to pay the bills. In this case, we feel we were used by the commerce, not as a part of them but as a means to enlarge their image and profits.
In the beginning the site was organized and maintained by people, not commerce, and was a GREAT site. Enough ads were sold to keep their heads above water, but alas, as the site grew so did the expenses and they were forced to sell three years ago to commerce.
We understood, and we were promised things would only get better with more modern advances and opportunities. Somehow, they never materialized and as things broke, they remained broken, in spite of promises from commerce to make them better.
I think we all saw the writing on the wall, in spite of two great people at HQ who did all they could to keep us going. Sadly, they were also made promises by commerce, and those promises were broken as well, which left them in a terrible spot...condemned by us and condemned by their bosses in commerce. They tried, and they have lost, just as we have lost.
We hope that someday, hopefully someday SOON, commerce will understand that THEY did not create this group of wonderful people, and that without us, they will ultimately lose the reputation the name Dogster/Catster now carries and without us members, that reputation is gone and the name Dogster/Catster will mean nothing.
After all, we AREN'T a name, we are PEOPLE united to promote our lives with our pets and that can't be stopped by their shutting us out!!!
