Arrival Story:
On November 14, 2012 I had to have my sweet baby boy Harry put to was the hardest decision that I have ever had to make annd I was devastated :( My husband was very concerned about me because I am home alone every day and unable to work to due health issues plus I was already in a severe depression:( So, on his day off one week, we were out for a ride and he asked me to stop at an animal shelter that we were near. I did not want to because I was not ready and couldn't even consider the idea of another pup, but I realized that he was in mourning just like me and so I stopped...I was not going to go in with him, but I got out to visit the pups that were out in their runs...well, I ended up going in and when I did this sweet little white haired lady came out from the back room and asked if she could help us..I told my husband that he had to talk because I knew that I would cry. So, he proceeded to tell her our story and when he was done she asked if we were looking for a similar type dog as our previous baby. We told her that we were, but that we were also open to other pups. With that she put her finger up to tell us to wait and went into the back room...when she returned she was holding the sweetest looking baby boy named Pete. He was a small Maltese with the biggest chocolate drop eyes ever and looked very sad and scared...needless to say, it was love at first sight!! The head of the shelter,Jeanne, shared his story with us and it made us want him even more! She told us that he was brought to them as a stray that was found one night when he was almost struck by a car...the person that almost hit him was able to catch him with the help of a passerby. She brought him to an animal hospital up the road and they let her in even though it was after hours. They proceeded to wash and shave him. He was underweight and had long matted, knotted hair that had feces and urine in it... the condition he was in earned him the name "Stinky Pete". Once he was all cleaned up he was brought to the shelter where we found him. They dropped the stinky from his name and he was known only as Pete. The Animal Control Officer told Jeanne that she believed he had been on his own for some time because she kept getting calls about a small, white dog that no one could catch. She also believed that he had been abused by a man because of his reaction to the officers in her building. After visiting with him and hearing his story we filled out an adoption application that day and weren't able to bring him home until December 9th...they had to hold him for a certain number of days to see if the owner showed up because they wanted to catch the rotten person that abused and neglected him, but the weasle never showed up. Then he had to stay because he was bitten by a fellow shelter pup and they had him on antibiotics for 10 days, once the medicine was finished they had him neutered and we were able to become his Mommy and Daddy officially and bring him home!! His story is sad and tragic, but we are so glad that we are able to provide him with a loving, and safe home for the rest of his life!! He is such a sweet, well behaved, loving boy and we are blessed and thankful to have found him :) He has truly saved me as much as we saved him!! We are TOTALLY in love with him!! Thank you for reading Peetey's story!
