My Adoption

Dear diary this is my first entry. I have been in my new home for a week now. This place is amazing. There is so much going on.

I came from the West End Animal Shelter (a non-kill shelter). I was brought to the shelter by my first family, last December. I am not sure why they gave me away at 5 years old, but they did. Then I was adopted out, however that family brought me back after just four months. The story is that I ate some very expensive patio furniture.

My new family had lost their Big Beautiful Boy Gus in January. There was a whole in this family and they were ready to fill it.

Mom says she had been looking at dogs on the internet for awhile, but she was just looking. Then she came across my face and something clicked. She still wasn't sure, but she kept coming back to my photo. She had always liked Labradors (my photo story said I was a Chocolate Lab). It was the beginning of July and mom didn't think the 4th of July was a good time to bring home a new dog, so she kept looking.

Well, as luck would have it the washing machine went out. And guess what is right near the Sears Outlet Store (where mom likes to buy appliances). That's right, the West End Shelter.

Mom and dad came to see me, but I wasn't there. I had been taken to an adoption expo. The very nice volunteers told mom and dad that I would be back in the afternoon, that I was an amazing dog, a little hyper when I first get out of my kennel, I was not a lab, and I was actually a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Mom and dad had a washer to install, so they went home.

Mom and dad went home and decided to go visit a Great Pyrenees Rescue, in a near by city. Mom says the dogs were amazing dogs, however there just wasn't any click.

The next day they came back to see me and of course there was a click. They had to bring Tuesday and Duke to the shelter to meet me. Everything went well and I got to go home.

I miss the shelter people. I watched one of them as we drove away. I know they are all happy for me and are hopeful that this will be my forever home.

The trip home was uneventful. Tuesday and I were very calm and comfortable in the back and Duke rode upfront on mom's lap (Mom didn't want him to get squished , if I got excited). When we got home, mom took Tuesday and me for a walk. It was very hot, so we only walked down the street and back. When we went in the door, mom took me around the downstairs rooms on leash. I was excited and wanted to run about, but mom said we had to check out the house calmly.

After I sniffed a bit mom took me to the backyard. That was when I saw the most amazing thing. There was Tuesday cooling off, in the POOL. There is a POOL, at my new home. I immediately went in and swam next to Tuesday. Awwwwww I now live in retriever heaven.

There is a lot to get used to here in my new home. There are rules here: no chasing the cat, no "bouncing" in the house (I like to jump up and down, when i am excited) , no "bothering" Tuesday (you can figure this one out), no wet dogs in the house and PLEASE DO NOT PEE ON THE TOMATOES. Hahaha

I am quickly learning the rules. Even, Tuesday is helping me learn them. Mom says she can not believe I am a furniture eating dog. But just in case, I stay in a crate, when no one is home.
I am certain with my new family's love, some directions, good stimulation and daily exercise I will be happy in this home FOREVER.
