His little stuffed animal-his meals made fresh every day-riding in the laundry cart.
People who confuse him for a Chihuahua. Waiting for his food.
a tiny stuffed panda bear he keeps hidden in his bed or other places if you disturb it
to the playground where the kids all want to pet him
wiping his nose with his tongue, otherwise he doesn't "perform"
I found Oscar in a cold, damp animal shelter in Brownsville, Texas. I was volunteering in dachshund rescue at the time. He had heartworm so we sent him up to Kerrville for treatment and he made it! Nobody called about him while he was on the webpage so we were allowed to keep him. He was only 8 at the time and folks didn't know what a great dog he would turn out to be. Since then, he's seen a lot of dachshunds come and go and has had several playmates. A year ago he moved with us to the Chicago area and experienced his first winter, but was well prepared with rainjacket, fleece-lined coats and sweaters. He loves the cooler weather and now that he is 16 (YES, SIXTEEN) he takes longer walks comfortably. The Vet says his heart is strong, his back straight. He might set records.
Oscar has a few scars. We think he wandered the streets and got into a few scraps. He has a story he can't bear to tell-how a foster dog we took in killed our old cat Oreo. He witnessed it, but it was too terrible and he wants to forget. His significant other is Roger, a basset hound. He is pals in our complex with the other basset hounds, but doesn't like some dogs here and gets angry. He loves to take car rides, burrow under the covers and "hunt" for squirrels. His dear pal, Eddie, is a dachshund my daughter owns and they have had a lot of adventures together, since Eddie likes to escape. His pal Annie, a chow mix, passed away a year ago and he loved teasing her, yanking on her fur.

Oscar is the spitting image of Picasso's dachshund Lump. In a photo book about Picasso & Lump, there is a picture in the back of Lump as an elderly dog and they look like twins! In the front is a photo of Lump as a puppy, so we figure that's what Oscar probably looked like. Although his face has greyed a lot, Oscar's ears are still a beautiful red.
