This is a bout me!!!!!
On my 1st-year birthday I met my forever Dad. I was living with my Grampy cause my first owner was moving back to Tennessee (where I was born) and couldn't take me. My new Dad had come down to do some duck hunting with my Grampy and his duck dog Deke. Deke was a very big Lab, but very old. They took me along on the hunt too. My first one! I was so excited. I swam after the canoe for a bit. Then rode in it for awhile. Then I ran like a bullet along the shore, and was waiting for them. I latched onto my forever Dad instantly. He fell in love with me right away too I think. He let me sleep on his camp cot in his sleeping bag with him the entire time we were out there. After our hunt we went back to my Grampy's home. Alot of talk was done about me moving with Dad, my first owner was sad, but understood I would be going to a great home. My Dad already had gotten Brandy from my previous owner. So after a quick phone call to my new Mom to say I was going to be moving in we left and drove for 4 hours in the truck. Dad and I bonded during that drive. At my forever home I met Brandy and Gunner. Gunner was just a bit bigger than me, but I have a dominent trait in me so I was able to become the 'boss dog'. My new home has a huge back yard with a wooden fence all around the sides and back. But I was a runner. I could see something down the road and off I would go. I also liked to chase cars. I was actually hit by one when I lived at my first home. Mom and Dad now say they had 'quite a time' training me to stay in our yard. They never tied me. They didin't think we should be tied. They came outside with us everytime. They still do. We do not go outside alone. I am a barker too. I bark at everything that moves. Mom and Dad say that for such a kind and gentle Lab I bark alot. But I am just protecting my family. I love it here very much and I don't want anybody messing that up. So last summer Dad put in a chain link fence. I think he did it just for me, but he says it is for the 3 of us. Mom puts us out in the yard now and can close the gate and leave us alone. I don't mind one bit. I can run the fenceline and bark at whatever I want. Of course Gunner and I play. We are rough when we play, but we are boys dogs, that is our way. I used to be able to wrestle Gunner down to the ground. Mom would laugh and call me a 'wrestler' cause I would hold him down by the throat and have my body on his to keep him there. We never never hurt each other. We know what we are doing and how to play. Some people think we are fighting, but we aren't. Gunner and I are very very close. Mom says we act like we were born in the same litter. Now I can't pin Gunner down. He has learned how to us his weight to overpower me. But he doesn't try to pin my down tho. We just developed a different way of playing. He kinda gallops beside me, biting my neck. I pretend I am running away. Mom says one good thing I did teach Gunner was how to 'pee like a boy'. Before I had come he was squating like Brandy. What did he know, that was all he saw. Well, let me tell you after he saw how I could lift my leg, either one too, it didn't take him long to try it. Mom made such a big fuss over it. I thought it was about time, he was over a year old!
Life is very good....Mom and Dad say I have a tail that just won't quit. But I am so very happy, I am smiling all the time. They don't see it, but I am. Mom and Dad look after us very well. We have some special food to help us stay trim and keeps us from shedding constantly . And we get special dog cookies to help with our coats to saty shiny. Mom says for having 3 dogs there is not alot of hair like there used to be. Of course we still shed, we are dogs, we have to shed. But we only shed during our change of seasons. Not every day like we used to. Many people comment on our beautiful coats.
We also get to sleep wherever we want. The only place we are not allowed is on the couch in the living room upstairs. We get plenty of exercise too. In the winter Dad takes us for long walks on the lagoon. It is so much fun. And right now this time of year the ice is starting to break open and there are birds in the water!!! I LOVE chasing birds. In the summer Dad takes us swimming in the river. I love to swim. He throws sticks for us to fetch. But he is still working on my bringing it all the way out of the water. I usually get to where I can stand and then drop it. Silly Dad, I am trying to get him to come to me. Maybe this year I can train him.
Well gotta go, it is almost time for breakfast. Gotta go put on the starving dog look. And I can't forget to do my groaning.
