I thought I saw a wolf

Momma and I were out walking last night. We were just down the half mile road by our place and mom decided to turn around and head back home. This is the usual walk we have every evening.

Last night we turn around and mom shines her flashlight and sees two dog type creatures slinking down the road towards us. Out of the corner of her eye she sees two more dog type creatures in the field beside us. Now I wanted to go after them, but momma thought it wasn't a good idea and kept a firm grip on me. She shone the flashlight on them and started yelling at them and the two coming towards us started to very slowly retreat. Then the flashlight goes dead!

Mom stands up as straight as she can and keeps a firm grip on me, she is yelling a loud voice and walking slowly towards to the dog type creatures. Eventually they move into the field and mom continues walking slow and shouting loud as we get to our driveway and start for home. Mom thought if she ran, they would definitely come after us.

She thought at first they were coyotes, but there have been reports of wolves and wolf/coyote hybrids in our area and she is now thinking it was the latter as they appeared quite big.

We won't be walking that far at night by ourselves again!

OMD, Buddy, weren't you barking?! I would have! We have coyotes around here lately, and they sent around a paper saying to make a lot of noise if you see them. Your mommy is furry smart!

Mum might want to consider carrying a chemical Light Stick. You just bend them and they activate.. bright light... dont need batteries.Really handy and small and light (fits in pocket)in an emergency.

If Mum wants but cant get... I can get plenty ! I also keep them for power cuts

Yikes! Be careful out there! Even a big guy like you shouldn't mess with wolves!
Those light sticks Flicka mentioned, we used to be able to buy them at our local dollar store. Then it closed.

Be SAFE!

Oh dear! Wolves can be nasty so you were very lucky. Momma has taken to walking on our property with a nice sturdy walking stick that if the need arises, she can hopefully fend off coyotes should we encounter one on our walks. She also has a small container of pepper spray but thinks she would have to be really close in order for it to be of any use. A better idea might be one of those canned boat horns - they are super load and should scare anything away.
