My goodness. It has been nearly a month since I last updated. Personally, I blame mom!
We have had a heat wave up here that last few weeks, so mom and I tried to get everything done outside first thing in the morning. I must point out here that we do not have AC in the house. After finishing up outside, mom and I would come in the house and then mom would start boiling large tubs of water to sterilize bottles. Did I mention we don't have AC? Anywhoodle, all the bottles she was sterilizing she filled with jellies and syrups from all the berries she picked. Daddy's work is having a farmer's market next week and he will be taking a bunch of the jellies and syrups to be sold at it. All money from the farmer's market goes to cancer research, so that is good.
I have also been helping mom start to bring in the produce from the garden. I am a very good helper, and I would quite often stick my head into the bucket she was using and would eat the beans, peas, snap peas she was picking. I figured if I ate a bunch of stuff, it would be less work for her cleaning and blanching all of it. Plus blanching would once again heat up the house and we don't have AC.
Mom has once again signed herself up for obedience classes and once again she is insisting I go with her. Whatever! She needs all the help she can get.
On the weekend I was playing with something under the deck and mom yelled at me to stop, and then she unceremoniously dragged me into the house. Yes, dragged as I did not want to go and she forced me to get away from what I was playing with.
Turns out I was playing with an injured juvenile Northern Flicker or woodpecker. Daddy put it in a box in a quiet place and the peeps kept me away from it. Mom phoned around and got some info on what to do and on Monday, daddy took him to Living Sky Wildlife Rehabilitation in Saskatoon. The people there took him to the vet college and had him x-rayed and turns out he had not only broken his coracoid bone, but also burst an air sac. He is on cage rest for the next few weeks and then will be released back into the wild. If you want to see a picture of my bird and are on Facebook, please go to the Living Sky Wildlife Rehabilitation page. Once again they are in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and you can see a picture of him there.
Hope everyone is having an awesome summer!
I feel for you with the no AC !!!

Yayyyyyyyyy that the Flicker is healing.... not on faceless.. but I am sure you will keep us updated !
So good that the money from the Farmers market is going to cancer research.. thankyou for that.

It's great to hear how helpful you are in all things to your mom! What a good boy you are! I like reading about all your adventures. Also, thanks for saying you liked my new picture and diary entry. You are a super pup pal! Luv, Sylvie
I think I would love to help with veggies, too...cause, yup they are yummy!
Poor birdie, though soon enough he will be fine...good thing you gave it to your Mom...I messed with a young robin once, but growlmy was so sad after that...
O-Bed-ience classes? BOL! You need to go to school to learn about O-Beds? I love mine and I am in one right now...zzzzzzzzzz.........
I just don't get the whole obedience classes craze. I went with momma when I was just a tiny little pup and was the top student in the class. I did everything I was instructed to do but once class was over I decided it was time for the real classes to begin and I showed the humans that this little Shih Tzu was not one to be ordered around - BOL, BOL. If you want me to do something you better have a really good cookie in your hand or I'll just ignore you.
We don't have air conditioning either but thus far it hasn't been an issue as we do have five ceiling fans which have helped keep things cool.
I furgot to woof how we would all wilt here with no A/C...you peeps are brave!
Growlmy said in her younger years she always slept in the basement during heat waves...and now she is scared of spiders, BOL!
I didn't have A/C when I lived in LA - it were HOT!
