Nope mom won't let me anywhere near the river for the next while. Not sure if you pups heard, but last week there was lots of flooding in our neighboring province of Alberta. Those poor people got an incredible amount of rain a very short period of time. The city of Calgary had the downtown area evacuated due to all the water. The Saddledome where the Calgary Flames play was filled with water up to the 8th row of seats. The Calgary Stampede grounds was totally flooded and it is still not known if that event, which is set to start on July 5 will be able to go ahead. Many people were evacuated, many homes in the town of High River (appropriately named unfortunately) were destroyed, homes in other areas were also damaged, highways and roads were washed out. It was and still is a mess and people are now just being allowed to see what damage has been done.
Now where does all that water go? Well my river, the South Saskatchewan River, will be getting a lot of it. The river has risen dramatically over the last day and mom is taking pictures and sending it to the local news station. The flow rate of my river has increased from 500 cubic metres per second to 6000 cubic metres per second. We are noticing large debris floating down the river and the two ferries near us have ceased operation due to the high water levels and extremely swift current. We are being advised to stay away from the river until the raging water subsides.
So pups, I will not be swimming in my river for a while. We send positive thoughts to our neighboring province as the clean up there continues.
Now we wait to see what damage will be done as the water enters our province.
Oh, Buddy. We r seein' it on da nues here an' it r so skeery an' sad. I wuz wunnerin' if yur river wood be affected. Stay far way fwum it, 'kay? All da bestest tu yu an' yur pawents as yu live fru dis. Stay safe, dood!
Buddy, that flooding is just terrible.
You stay away from the river and keep your family safe. When we were watching the news, they said that all that water will be heading in your direction.
Oh no! I did see lots of pictures of the flooding there. So sad :( Please stay safe Buddy.
Glad your Mom is keeping you safe! We hope the Stampede runs as scheduled. My mom's sister in law used to live in Calgary, so she knows what a big deal that is! Sending good thoughts....
Yes, we saw about the terrible floodin on the news too.
You stay outta the water Buddy! Be safe!
Maybe your Mom would let you splash in the bathtub. ;-)
I followed the awful floods with eh BBC News online. Terrible terrible times. My heart goes out to those people.
Your Mum is right... no need to go near the river for a couple of weeks.. that should see most of the flow come through.
Mother Nature sure can be destructive and cause lots of heartache. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Please stay safe and let us know if you need anything.
Hugs and kisses,
Dat flooding stuff are scary! I mean, I likes swimming and all, but I would not want to be doing it in my house! Hope everyone will be ok.
your Mom is so smart to keep you away from the river, we wouldn't anything to happen to you!!!
So terrible that flooding.
We hope it ends soon; and we hope that you won't even try to go near that raging torrent for a long while.
Sheesh, other parts of North America are in drought conditions...
Best be sniffing in the bushy parts of your domain, OK?!
