Arrival Story:
Ruger finally succumbed to leukemia on Saturday Aug. 9, here at home, in our arms. We miss him very, very, very much. You can view his memorial video at www.rescueark.org

Bio:
Ruger eluded animal control for over a week. Once captured, the shelter staff took turns hiding him when it came time for the weekly "time's up" cull. He was saved from the shelter environment by a local rescue group and bounced through a few foster homes before he came to us. Ruger was a truly wonderful dog (with a few quirks and neuroses)! We called him our "shepherd ambassador." One veterinary technician once told us that he had "restored her faith in the breed." He was very tolerant with his pack. I could dress him in anything, pick up his rear legs and play "wheelbarrow", and he lets the other dogs take toys away from him. He's very tolerant with kids - but small dogs make us all nervous! We got through a nasty bout of Inflammatory Bowel Disease that's had him on a strict diet; a life-threatening episode of bloat; and various other maladies and surgeries.

My Cousin Came to Visit....

Nana drove all the way up from North Carolina to visit with Mom & Dad last week. And - surprise! - she brought her 6-month old Jack Russell pup as a present for us! I really didn't know what to think at first. That little bugger has some sharp little teeth! He ended up chasing all of us around the house. No fair, 'cause he can hide under the bench seat and behind the couch! After three days of this, I got tired of the little nipper (Mom and Dad called him "monster") and would just ignore him. Jordan really missed Winston when they left to go back home. Maybe we can bug Mom & Dad for our OWN little energizer bunny dog -- then Jordan will stop bugging ME all the time! Whew.
