I am not having surgery Thursday, February 3rd

I have been on an anti-inflammatory and a muscle relaxant for a week now. I have not had any lasting progress. I am still in horrible pain. I sleep most of the time and when I am awake I am hunching over trying to keep away the pain.

It is breaking mom and dad's hearts to see me like this. They love me so much and just want me to be pain free. I came to live with them on Christmas eve and our hearts were so happy...we just want that feeling to last.

Dr. Lewis had scheduled me for surgery on Thursday for a removal of a tumor on my behind near my anal glands and she was going to neuter me, too, as well as microchip me so I could be returned to mom and dad forever if I got lost.

Mom called Dr. Lewis today to give her an update on my condition. About 3 to 3 1/2 hours after the anti-inflammatory drug I am active, not like my usual self, but much more active. I am walking around at a good clip and want to explore. But this does not last long...about an hour or 2 tops.

We got a call at 6:10 this evening from the vet's office asking if we could come in so Dr. Lewis could check up on me before deciding to keep or cancel the surgery. I got to go for a car ride! I wasn't very excited though, and I didn't even stick my head out the window. :(

When we got there, mom carried me to the exam room and the vet tech took me back for an x-ray to see if they could determine what could be the cause of the pain. Mom and dad heard me yelp twice while I was gone.

After I came back to them, Dr. Lewis came to talk to us about the x-rays and explain what she feels is going on. While they were looking at my x-rays I decided it was a great time to pee--BOL--everywhere!! After a short intermission of cleaning that up, back to the x-rays. Close to my neck and shoulders there are disks that are fusing themselves and there are dense spots with jagged edges. These also appear down the base of the spine in a few places. Dr. Lewis said that she can not know exactly what is going on, but said that the spine is starting to fuse itself to rid the pain. The dense areas could be severe arthritis, or they could be tumors.

Our first course of action is to put me on steroids and an antibiotic and see how I am in 24-48 hours. If the steroids do not help, I will be in extreme pain long term. Mom and dad are so much beside themselves that mom is sick.

I so very much love my new home and my new family and neighbors. Please keep in your thoughts and prayers...I believe in the Power of the Paw.
