What's Shakin', Bacon?
I'm Kinda a Big Deal! BOL!October 31st 2011 8:59 am[ View A Comments (11) ]
Dear Diary,
Oh Mel.... I DO undedrstand the fear response. Both my Boys are great at the vets.. but Flicka as you know is also a rescue (and Lucas.. but slightly different). Flicka was 16 weeks ish when I got him just 12 hrs short of "time Up". He is the most loving.. the most loyal beautiful Boy... but he had... a fear aggession to those he didnt know and he percieved as threats. Its taken 5 yrs.. and alot of understanding and patience. I had never experienced that in all my years with dogs. I felt so alone.. and I have to say the encouragement..and finding I wasnt alone.. from the folk on this site... helped more than I could dream. We will never really know what happened to our beloved Furs.. but we learn the triggers.. we learn to mitigate them alot. As the Flicka I have now is still work in progress.. he is 2000% better than where we started... this too is your Boys. You have done SO much for YOUR Boys..... its just a time factor... and we cannot mend all the troubles.. but we CAN find a place in their world where they can at least tolerate. You and yours are doing GREAT... celebrate the victorys.. small and big.. and keep sinking the not so good days. HUGSSSSSSSSSSSS Flicka ∆,,∆ & Lucas /..| Cleo (I.M.) ∆,,∆ & Pam X We were so proud to learn of the great honor bestowed upon you with your name in lights! The prize is nail trimming? How is that a prize for a furry guy? He would much rather have a new toy or treat. Anyway Mum says she had a kitty like that. Total personality switch when he felt threatened. I, of course, am an angel. You would expect nothing less! Good to hear that the Dogtor is taking the time and we're all sure that in time this too will get better. It's only been a year and some behavior takes a lot longer than that to overcome. Hugs to you all and Happy Halloween, Arooooo! Bakie, you will get better and better wifs time! Plus, when you're good, you will get a treat!! Da vet place doesn't skeer me, fankfully; I just go in and pee on everyfing! BOL! Mommy gets so 'barrassed. I see da vet times as anudder chance to be petted by all da peeps and extra wuvs from Mom afterwards coz they gives me shots in my hiney. OMD!! your sign was marvelous, and so glad that you got to see it in person like that. Well we do have our moments and if youre is at the vets office, it will get better. Congratulations on your win, Bakie! I bit Daddy at the vet last time I went cause they shoved a thermomomometer up my pooper. I understand, pal. I unnerstand how you feel Bakie! I hates habbing my front nails clipped, and they have to be VERY careful cause I've thought about biting the hand doing the clipping! Your mama and patient vet are sure doing the right things to help you not be so scared. Your name in lights! How wonderful. Sometimes Mom takes me on a car ride and takes me into the V-E-T and I get a SNACK and skritches then we leave. It is supposed to fool me so I think good thoughts about the place. But I still love to get out that door and pee on the tree at the corner. Mom calls it the Gizmo moment. That point when Gizmo gets water after midnight and turns into a Gremlin. Condogulations on your win..and more on your vet being such a winner, too. Growlmy says I have that type of issue, too..but she has had me since I was a wee pup...so not sure where that came from. We work with it, cause we know about it. Hang in there, he couldn't have gotten a better set of peeps and furmily to be in to try and undo/work with that Jekyll and Hyde stuff... Mel, remember how long it took Bacon to adjust to getting the ear medication? And how different it is now? Bacon has had every single day to learn to trust you and Ez. He only sees the vet occasionally and that makes for a more difficult relationship as far as trust goes. You are doing such a great job with Bacon and Beanie and have done a wonderful job with Izzy. It'll come and, if it never really does, you and the vet will deal with it. Bacon is not the only dog who doesn't like to go to the vet so I imagine they are used to trying different strategies for different dogs. Hugs to all of you...your wonderful pups are very lucky to have you and Ezra! Nail trimming as a prize??? Dat don't sound like no prize to me! I'd get snarly if that was my reward too. |
