Arrival Story:
Chloe was abandoned with her two brothers and sister and a man called the humane society about them. We had one free dog pen, so Chloe and her siblings came here to be fostered. They were very under socialized and frightened. Chloe was the most frightened out of all of them, but has now become friendly with me. If you have any questions about Chloe you can contact me through dogster (make sure to check your account for a return message) or you can e-mail me at: muttsoflove@yahoo.com

Bio:
If I had to describe Chloe in one word it would be 'sweet.' She is a very delicate girl that just needs to take her time figuring things out. Once she knows you she will be your friend for life. Chloe had a tough time adjusting to life here, but now that she is my friend she is ready to be petted and loved everyday. I don't know what Chloe's life was like before she got here, but I'm glad to be able to help her now. She is a very sweet and quiet girl that just wants to be loved. Chloe is going to make a very good companion for the right person. All she needs is a chance and love. ~~~~~(UPDATE 7 February)~~~~~ Chloe is a year old now and she is still a very sweet girl. Her progress has slipped recently and she is back to being very timid and scared of me and especially anyone else that walks near her pen. When she sees strangers she runs to the back and barks at them. The greatest help I have with her is her sister, Cleo. I take her for a walk with Cleo everyday. She has been making progress this week. It is taking less and less time for me to catch her to put her on her leash. She doesn't pull on her leash any while we are on a walk and she has even taught her sister a few things about following me no matter what kind of surface she has to cross. The last couple of days I have even been able to let her off the leash for a little run and have had a fairly easy time getting her to stop and sit still while I put the leash back on her. She likes to have the side of her neck rubbed, but not her chin or the top of her head. Overall, Chloe still needs a lot of work and will continue to need this work for her entire life. If you want to adopt Chloe you are taking a lifelong commitment to be there for her. Chloe will need a lot of your time, but the good news is, she is worth the effort. ~~~~~(UPDATE 16 March)~~~~~ Chloe has made a lot of progress lately. She loves going on walks and playing with all the other dogs. She is great around cats. She has lots of energy and keeps up with my one year old Australian Cattle Dog very well. She would be great in a home with another high energy dog to play with and to introduce her to her new family. She is still timid around strangers, but is making lots of progress with people she is used to being around. She is a sweet girl and deserves all the love that comes her way. ~~~~~(UPDATE 13 April)~~~~~ Chloe is house broken and crate trained. She spent a week indoors and the only accident she ever had was during a bad thunderstorm. ~~~~~(UPDATE 2013)~~~~~ I would still describe Chloe as a sweetheart. It's just the one word that really fits her. She is still shy and timid, but she perks up instantly when I pick up her leash. This girl is always ready for a walk. It sometimes takes her a few nervous hops towards me to settle down and sit still to get leashed up, but once she calms down she is ready to go. She is just a wonderful girl. I hope one day she can find a wonderful forever home that will take the time to understand her.

ADOPT 2011 CONTEST

I came to my foster home over a year ago. My two brothers and sister came with me. We were not the easiest dogs to catch, but our foster mom managed to get us here. My brothers and sister have turned into sweet, playful, and loving dogs, but I am still afraid. It is hard. I watch all the other dogs run up to foster mom and play with her or wait for their food, but I just can't manage to do that.

Foster mom was really proud of me the other day. We get chained up when we eat, so no one tries to steal food when she is not watching us. She came over and unhooked my leash and instead of cowering down or backing away, I put my head on her knee. This was the first time I ever initiated contact with her. She rubbed my chin and talked really quiet and sweet to me for a few minutes. I could tell she was really proud of me. The next day I walked with her just holding my collar. Normally I only walk if I have on a leash. If she just grabs my collar I pull backwards or refuse to stand. I know they are only little things, but foster mom says it is something and I just have to keep taking puppy steps.

I love going on leashed walks. It is like my favorite thing in the whole world. We go on long walks through the woods and sometimes other dogs go with us too or even cats. I am supposed to be extra nice to the cats. Foster mom let me try jumping the agility jump too. She didn't think I would do it and at first I was afraid, but after awhile I got pretty good at jumping over that little pole. She would rub my chin every time I jumped it. That was a good day. I hope we do it again soon.

I don't know if I will ever find a family that is right for me. Foster mom says it will be difficult for me to adjust, but I can always come back if it is too much for me.

I am glad the right rescue group found me. I wouldn't have made it in a shelter and I can imagine that lots of foster parents wouldn't have known what to do with me. I want to run up and give foster mom a big lick, but that will have to wait. Maybe next year.
