I've been in this country for 8 months today and am settling in quite well. Following in Blou's paw prints was a daunting prospect, but happily I have had no problems. I've succeeded him as the
spokes dog for the Pet Emergeny Fund of western NY and as the mascot for the Letters from Home Program. I was interviewed by a nice reporter for one of the Buffalo NY television stations and got favorable comments from lots of people who saw me on TV. As the mascot for the LFH, I work to raise awareness of the program (www.lettersfromhomeprogram.org) and to help with the packing of gift boxes and letters for American troops all over the world. Since my first packing party in July,
I've heard from two service people in Afghanistan. My big project right now is sponsoring a Blou Christmas locally in honor of my predecessor Blou who died in December last year. We've placed a Christmas tree decorated totally in blue in a store window and are collecting donations of anything that can be used by the local SPCA. Our window is almost full after only ten days and we are going to have to deliver some things to the SPCA to make room for more. We've received cleaning supplies, dog food, cat food, leashes and collors, toys, towels and blankets, treats, and cash. I'm telling you about this thinking that perhaps some of you might catch the urge to do the same thing in your area. We all know that there are shelters and sanctuaries all over the country that can use as much help as they can get. We're having lots of snow here for the last couple of days.
This morning I went outside and disappeared in the snow. I took one leap from the porch and landed in great powder that was deeper than I am tall. I love it. I wish you all a very happy holiday season and a wonderful new year of health and happiness in 2011
