Mom says it’s a GOOD thing I didn’t see the small black and white scraggly fur ball scurrying across the street up the hill ahead of us this morning. I heard her whisper, “We definitely don’t want to get near THAT Lu!” If I had, she said she might have had to leave me outside today – of course she’d never REALLY do that – she loves me too much. I think… As it was, she said I could obviously smell the varmint once we crossed its previous path because this time *I* scurried every which way, trying to hunt down the unfamiliar scent that Mom said even she couldn’t smell (and was thankful for). She didn’t see the creature again, but pulled me WAY away from the direction it had gone. She said she wasn’t taking any chances and didn’t think I’d want a bath this morning (why ever would I need a bath?). I NEVER get to have any fun! I guess I’ll have to add Skunk to my animal passport another day…
But I DID get to chase some deer out of people’s yards today – at least three times! Mom says my voice (bark) takes on a high-pitched frantic tone when I’m frightened or nervous. But I “ain’t scared o’ no deer!” And hey, those deer MOVED (finally) after several seconds of staring me down, wondering what was the tiny animal charging toward them. The last deer was REALLY close. Mom says I need to be more careful – especially now that they’ll be having their babies soon – she says they get very protective and can be mean then. I can’t wait to see – just let them TRY to take me down. I’ll get ‘em!!!
I also almost got to chomp down on a BIG black bug (that will remain nameless for Mom’s sake) on our walk this morning. As soon as she realized what I was about to do, she yanked me out of the way – man, what a disadvantage being small can be – I get pulled and tossed all over the place – and sometimes she even picks me up and carries me! Oh! The humiliation – especially when I’m trying to bark down a BIG dog! (sigh…)
Mom had a rough day at work yesterday and is somewhat dreading today. I hope our snuggle time at 3:00 am this morning helped some – she says it does. Yeah. She loves me. I KNOW.
