Well, mom has been a little under the weather lately. That is probably an understatement. She let some guy take a drill to her head on July 15th. She said it is some 'ventriculoperitoneal shunt' that is supposed to help with the medical problems she has had for the last year. She says she trusts him. I don't know...some guy with a drill? But she says he is in the top 2% of doctors that do this kind of thing. Whatever.
I got to to with her to the hospital. She was really nervous. The surgery was supposed to be at 9 am, but got changed to 11 (Great! I didn't have to get up at 5 am!) and then got changed again...and she finally went in at 2 pm.
The time in the pre op area was kinda boring, actually. We all sat around and talked, waiting for someone to come into the room and tell us what to do. Finally someone came in and had mom change into this big blouse that kinda left her backsides wide open. Easier to go potty, I think...but, wait! I'm a dog! Then we sat some more. Auntie Jane came with us at 9, and then took me with her to lunch with her daughter. Mom says she missed me. Mom was supposed to go in for surgery before we left for lunch, but she was still waiting when we got back from lunch. Mon was not happy without me.
So we sat some more. Mom started getting more nervous and anxious waiting for the doctor to come in. Her pastor was supposed to come, but because mommy's surgery time got changed, he couldn't. Mom was NOT a happy camper. So I told her she needed to chill out, and she did some focused breathing. Finally, I could get back to sleep. The hospital bed was small, but mom always loved to have me drape myself across her legs and tummy, so I was fine. She wasn't.
The doctor finally came in and talked to mommy about the surgery. He told her exactly what he would do and where. Then he did something amazing - he held hands with mommy and her friends and prayed! Then he left and mommy talked to another doctor who was going to put her to sleep. Mommy was in the surgery room for 2 hours...
To be continued...
