It's been a day over a month that Lucky left us. It is much quieter in our home now and there is no doubt that Mickey is still feeling the loss, too.
However, Lucky is not far, because we had him cremated and he is back with us now. We cannot bury our furry friends on the property here for different reasons, so the cremation was the only alternative to us.
I want to plant a dogwood for Lucky in our yard this spring, and hope it will grow as nicely as they did on our old property in Virginia.
Some time later this year, we want Mickey to have another buddy to play with so he won't stay alone. We hope to find another blue merle Aussie mix to rescue, just as we did with Lucky and Mickey. They are more than a handful especially when younger, but we have fallen in love with those bundles of energy and want to improve the lack of daily exercise by getting a fence on our new property, so letting them rumble around will be easier and safer off leash.
In the weeks and months to come, I will go through more boxes that need unpacking (still!) and look for old non-digital versions of photos of our dear Lucky to add to the gallery and have a photo book made.
I am sure that Lucky is still "herding" us. There are moments, when it feels like he is right here. Must be the lasting impression of his paw print in our hearts!
