Off leash progress...

So, Mom says that most hound dogs can't be let off leash because our noses like to take us to places we shouldn't be, and when sniffing we don't listen very well. I think I have showed her wrong. Mom and Dad have been taking me outside for about 2 weeks now, both during the day, and after about a week I am now aloud outside in the driveway at night to go to the bathroom, and just run around during the day. I have not run off, I listen when Mom and Dad call me, and I stay far away from the road. I like being off leash, it allows me to run off energy even in the winter time and it keeps me in shape. Mom and Dad are hoping that I am able to listen to them no matter what I am distracted by, and come back to them when called so in the summer we can make the mile and 1/2 trip to the lake and I don't have to be on the leash. See, I live in a small cottage house, with a barn (with 2 horses), on 60 acres of waterfront property.. There is also a cat in the house too, his name is Jack and I like to play with him. Sometimes Mom has to speak to me though, because I try to get too rough with the kitty. But, I calm down quick, and realize he is smaller than me. Right now Mom and Dad are teaching me not to jump on people. I don't do it to hurt anyone, I just do it to get attention, but the other day I jumped on Mom when she was turned around and almost knocked her over. Dad got very angry with me, because Mom and Dad are trying to have a baby, and Dad doesn't want me to hurt Mom when she becomes pregnant. I guess they are right. But, I am very good around little kids, and I don't jump on them. I hope Mom can forgive me, and I am trying real hard to remember not to jump, sometimes I just get super excited, specially when Mom comes home from classes after leaving very early in the morning, before I am even awake! Well, Mom says its bedtime, GOODNIGHT!

Woof Woof,

Woo Hoo! My Mommy finally made me a dogster page. After coming onto the website with my mom, we found out that lots more harriers are on here. So after some begging, and a belly rub mom finally made me my own page. I am very excited to be here to share my accounts with everyone. Well, Mom is telling me it is time to go outside. We are working on off leash training now, so I get to go outside alot more than I used to with the leash on. I am doing very well with this training and since starting it a week ago I have not taken off yet and listen very well while outside. I like to explore in the barn that we have, but there are two big scary things in there that make me nervous, mom says its okay because they are just horses but one of them tried to chew on me! Well, I will write again soon maybe some more about before mom joined dogster for me.

Woof Woof,

D.B. Cooper!
