Life of the Unseeing

My first entry!

Imagine growing up in a wire cage (not a home but a cage) and possibly only being able to walk on concrete all day long. Imagine your eyesight slowly going away. As a puppy you can see your mommy and your surroundings but gradually everything becomes blurry and you start to bump into things. The humans around you don't want anything to do with you except help make puppies all day. Then your eyesight is completely gone and the humans don't want you any longer and get rid of you. For 6 years you live like this, never knowing what a loving touch is, what good food is, what clean water is, what a clean home (crate) is. Well that is what I went through until a sheltie rescue got me. They said I lived in a puppy mill. Now that I have been in my forever home for over a year now I have really come out of my shell! I have 3 other sheltie siblings and 3 other things that run around meowing all the time to live with. I am told they are cats but I don't know what they look like.

My sister Emma has been a blessing for me because when I first got here she knew I could not see well and she will gently bump me out of the way so I don't hit a table or door or anything that might hurt me. She plays with me and so does my other siblings. I am so lucky. My new human mommy has been really gentle with me and over time I have memorized my new home and backyard. I can really run around and not hit anything. But you have to watch those cat things. They like to stand in your way and not move! I get to "bump" into them and not get in trouble, hee hee... My sister is typing for me too by the way.

I finally feel what it is to be loved and in the past year I have gone from not wanting to be in the same room as humans to wanting to be with them. I used to cower when they pet me but now I lift my head up and want to be petted. It feels so good! I get lots of treats and I love to do sheltie spins when it is dinner time. I run into the kitchen and wait at my spot for the food to come! I don't play much with toys cause I can't see them but I do like to chew on my nylabone. I really hate getting my nails cut too!!! All I hear is snip snip snip and it scares me cause I feel the vibration of the clipper thing but don't know what is happening. The good thing about it is TREATS afterward!!!! I don't like to get bathed and groomed either but mom says we all have to have that done from time to time. I am a very good boy and at times I love to bark bark bark!

Well I don't know what else to say for now so I will have my sissy sign me off and I will write again soon.

Woof!
Scottie

P.S. I love my forever home!
