Arrival Story: After having to give up my previous dog due to the instability in my home situation and her age, I began to realize that I had taken her for granted. You don't know how much joy and satisfaction having a dog can give you until you've had one and lost it. So I began seeking another one. One who was younger and could tolerate being an "outdoor dog" at times since my mother (whom I've had to stay with due to unfortunate circumstances) is allergic to animals.
I decided to go with Craigslist. I found an ad for a 6 month old, very large puppy who was an indoor/outdoor dog. His previous owners weren't sure what he was, but he looked very similar to a dog I'd had when I was younger, who was a border collie mix. The fact that this puppy was male made my family more open to adopting him since he could be a good protector for me (which he has proven to be an excellent one. Although, I'm not sure if his gender would have made a difference either way).
When we first arrived to see him, he began dashing in and out of doors and rooms of his house, knocking children and the two family cats down as he ran. At first I was hesitant to take him because of this, but I felt an obligation to him and his family. Plus, I didn't want him to go to the pound, which was the only other option, and his behavior more than likely would have sent him back to the pound more than once by anyone who would adopt him there.
The first two weeks that I had him, he was like a wild 50-pound bronco living in my back yard. But I didn't give up on him. I continued to work with him each day to provide him proper training and exercise to get his wild behavior under control. Daegan, whose original name was Bear, and didn't even know THAT, became a decently behaved and much more calm dog. He can still be very hyper at times, but it's just in his nature. He now knows basic tricks, such as "sit", "stay", "down", "dance", and "high five". He has become a wonderful member of my family.
Bio: Daegan is super intelligent and extremely good at entertaining himself, which is very useful to me when I can't always be around to entertain him myself.
Daegan comes with me almost everywhere I go. (Yes, I treat him like a six-pound, portable chihuahua, which probably explains why he thinks he is one!) He thinks he's a lap dog and doesn't realize how big he really is! He has given me companionship, comfort, security, protection, and most importantly, love. And I'm returning the favor every day.
So I got my hair cut awhile back! :) It was nice to have it all gone, because this was a HOT period. But the cold period is coming up; I can feel it in the air!! Maybe the soft ice will fall from the sky again this period! I love soft ice! It makes the earth look soft. :) It's REALLY cold, though, but I don't mind. I'm glad my hair seems to be growing back for the cold period.
I don't think Khloe has ever seen a cold period. I wonder how she'll react to soft ice. Heh heh....
And I think we're making a trip to the park soon! I hope so! I really missed it, but mama says it's been too hot to go. :( Mama also said she's going to get a new rolling house soon! She says ALL the windows will work so I can stick my head out as much as I want!! :D I'm so excited! I wonder what kind of rolling house she'll get!!
Mama found a new park to take me to! She said she wishes she had known the park was there earlier! It's so much fun, and I make a lot of new friends there. But we only go every couple of weeks or so because it's so far away. Mama says I'm worth it though! It's hard for me to keep up with some of those younger pups though. Not to mention yesterday, we had ALREADY gone for a walk before going to the park, so I was tired already when we got to the park! We didn't stay long yesterday, but that's cool because I was getting hot! Mama said she wants to get my hair cut, but I don't like people touching my tail! She said she's scared I might nip someone trying to cut my hair or I might get scared of all the equipment they use. And you know, I just might! I think she might keep trying to find someone who will give me a hair cut that I behave well with, but that's not her to decide is it? :P Anyway, I'm off for now! Bye pups!
