Schatzies Eyes

How ironic that I responded to a question about cloudy eyes in a miniature Schnauzer last year. Last week Schatzie fell into the pool twice in one day, never has done that before. Then we started noticing that she was walking into things. We took her to the vet, bilateral cataracts. we are so sad for her. We have an appointment next week with a veterinarian opthomologist. Hopefully he will have good news. I certainly hope that she can have surgery to restore her vision. It is the saddest thing. She isn't even 2 yrs old yet. The worst is she just had a litter of puppies. They were soooo cute! We kept one little male. His name is Mr. Jones, or Peanut for short. We are praying that he doesn't have it as well. I heard that they have to have the gene from both parents and so far, the Daddy doesn't have any signs of problems. It all happened so fast. She was spayed right after she weaned the pups and the vet did a full physical on her and didn't see any sign of cataracts then. that was less than two months ago.

Hi Schatzie! I had cataracts when mom adopted me, and I got around better than the sighted doggies sometimes, woof! You're a young enough pup for surgery though, right, if you wanted? I hope you can! There's lots of good resources for blind doggies, like Dogster groups and blinddogs.com. I hope everything goes good at the dogtor!
