A day in the life.......
Schatzies EyesJuly 14th 2010 4:08 pm[ Leave A Comment | 1 person already has ] How ironic that I responded to a question about cloudy eyes in a miniature Schnauzer last year. Last week Schatzie fell into the pool twice in one day, never has done that before. Then we started noticing that she was walking into things. We took her to the vet, bilateral cataracts. we are so sad for her. We have an appointment next week with a veterinarian opthomologist. Hopefully he will have good news. I certainly hope that she can have surgery to restore her vision. It is the saddest thing. She isn't even 2 yrs old yet. The worst is she just had a litter of puppies. They were soooo cute! We kept one little male. His name is Mr. Jones, or Peanut for short. We are praying that he doesn't have it as well. I heard that they have to have the gene from both parents and so far, the Daddy doesn't have any signs of problems. It all happened so fast. She was spayed right after she weaned the pups and the vet did a full physical on her and didn't see any sign of cataracts then. that was less than two months ago.
upset stomachSeptember 24th 2009 12:50 am[ Leave A Comment ] We recently submitted a question on Dogster re frequent vomiting. Schatzie has vomited easily/frequently since she we got her. Unfortunately, she eats it immediately, so unless we actually see it happen, we don't know she did it. Makes it hard to track how often and under what circumstances. We are very careful about her diet. She never (almost never) gets people food. I admit to an occasional bit of a piece of popcorn. and she has licked an ice cream cone once. only once. We got a lot of good answers, but ultimately I changed her food. We switched to Halo puppy Spots Stew. She loves it, and other than burping after she eats, and the occasional toot, I see no problems. I haven't seen her vomit once in the last 5 days, since we switched. I did slow down on the greenies, now about 2-3 times a week. No poop changes either. I am aware of predisposition for pancreas disorders in Schnauzers and also skin conditions. So I'm a little concerned that the content of the food ultimately could be a problem. But according to the people at Petco, Halo is supposed to be a far superior food than Nutro, good for sensitive tummys. keeping our fingers crossed.
