Just a note.
I have been busy and distracted with life, so have not been keeping up on my Week in Boxers posts, but wanted to send a little reminder that CaliforniaBoxer.org is still here.
Lately I'm adding about 10 new dogs a day. Most are young dogs, and many are victims of the housing crisis.
If you get a chance, come take a look at these deserving faces. Tck them away in your mind and the next time someone asks you where they can get a boxer of their own, give them the URL to the site.

Trying to get back in my Thurs Ca-Boxers-in-shelters reminder groove.
PetHarbor was acting hinkey today so not everyone has a pic, and my CaliBoxers FaceBook acct seems to not like my password anymore and is taking its sweet time emailing me my reminder, so I'm a little off kilter today.
I added 2 seniors today, both in SoCal and both about 9 years old ;-(
Also, check out Mr B...
He's an extremely handsome man. I suppose he is the definition of a "Black Boxer".
I listed him as a mix, but can sure understand why some people insist that they do indeed exist.
I think I am going to start a free-for-all on Saturdays, listing *all* the boxers I see, rather than just the new ones. Some of these dogs have been in the shelter for months, and maybe this will shed a little more light on them and soften someone's heart just enough...
I'm really excited to have this project spill over into Las Vegas.
While its just one city/county, there is a particular shelter there that sometimes seems to be overrun with boxers, and the only rescue is clear at the other end of the state.
Tomorrow is going to be non-stop. I'm going to try and get the dogs all listed early in the morning.
We're off to spend the day at the Warped tour (multiple loud rock bands). Its an all day event about 2 hours from here.
We have friends playing in some of the bands, and best of all, we are taking my almost-13-yo niece. Its her first concert, and but for us she would have been the only kid in 8th grade who was not going.
She actually cried when I told her, and was for a rare moment speechless.
Its goind to be a long day. We had planned to take the boxers and spend the night in Sacramento, but decided they would be safer at home, so we'll come back tomorrow night.
Also, check it out!
This photo of said niece, some 8 years ago, with one of my rescues, was accepted by the L.A. Times for their Rescued Pets gallery.

Anyway, that's the Thurs update and then some.

Sorry its been so long since I reported on behalf of all the boxers waiting in California shelters for permenant homes.
Between a sad family event and then company here, I have just not had the energy to form my thoughts into typey words lately.
Hopefully we are settled down now for a few weeks.
I don't know the exact number of boxers added to the list in the last 14 or so days, but my best guess would be about 110.
Once again, they are spread out through the entire state, but with a large concentration in SoCal.
While there have been a few seniors and a couple who need special attention, my overall impression is that most are just good, happy, 4-year-old males.
Lots of optimistic faces looking back at me.
Though today I added Bandit - a young boy in need of some very major medical attention.
A couple of other things...
I'm thrilled that a member of one of the lists has been inspired by this project and wanted to do the same in her town.
I'm helping her along the way and would be happy to help others too.
Las Vegas, Nv now has someone listing shelter boxers!
Check out http://VegasBoxer.californiaboxer.org
Lastly, on my own website, www.CaliforniaBoxer.org, I've gotten the registration bugs worked out, so if anyone tried to register before and could not, give it a try now. If we can get a networkof boxer lovers and rescuers communicating across the state, maybe we can get some boxers adopted.
So, until Thursday...

Time again for the weekly synopsis of our beloved Boxe breed waiting in California shelters for permenant homes...
Here's what you can do:
If you're in California, or near its borders, and know someone who is considering adding a boxer to their home, please send them to the website.
I am just sure that even if they are looking at puppies, some of them will not be able to ignore the faces of the young, adult and even senior boxers looking at them and hoping for a happy ending.
A puppy is only a puppy for a short period of time after all....
Perhaps you or someone you know is looking to help in some way but not sure how?
Almost every shelter near you would appreciate a volunteer with a day, a computer and a camera to list their dogs online.
That little once-a-week thing can save lives!
Breeders? Can you add one of the CaliforiaBoxer widgets to your website? You know you may not have a puppy available, or may have people contact you who do not qualify for your dogs, but who might be able to provide a home for a shelter dog.
The more I see these wonderful boxers, the more inspired I am to try and get them in the Public's eye.
This week was good - only 42 Boxers listed. I suspect it would be more if all the shelters out ther had the resources to list their dogs on PetFinder and PetHarbor (that's where you come in you see).
Volunteering is alot like going to the Gym I am finding - you have to find your niche, you have to know what your goals are, and you are surprised by how good and energized you are after you do it.
If anyone has an inclination to get involved, please contact me off list and I will do my best to connect you.
Meanwhile, as always, unless you're breeding to better the Boxer, please spay and neuter your dog,

OK - gentle reminder that there are lots of wonderful boxers waiting in California animal shelters for you to take them home.
You can see them all at http://www.CaliforniaBoxer.org !
I've added a new RSS feed called 911 Boxers that is just those dogs who are in immediate danger of euthanasia.
They are located at the top of the main page.
I also created some little widget thingies that you can slap into your website, FaceBook or MySpace profile or Blog, and created a FaceBook app for each. I went all Pro, so there are no ads on these, and you can customize them to fit nicely into your own pages and templates.
The regular, full boxer list widgets are here:

This week saw 59 new boxers waiting in California animal shelters
for permanent homes. By far most are in Southern California, with its
large population, but there are boxers waiting from one end of the
state to the other and most areas in between.
On July 21, I posted about 5 boxers in grave danger due to age,or
high-kill shelter situations. 4 of te 5 are still waiting.
Annabelle is no longer listed. I have no way of knowing if she was adopted, rescued or put down.
The others still in danger are:

I've ordered some postcards to print with the website info - I am thinking if I can mail them to shelters and rescues, maybe it will bring some extra attention to the dogs.
I'm always up for other ideas, suggestions etc, and please, feel free to jump in and get the word out! Post the website on boxer forums, free classifieds, dog parks, vet offices and anywhere else you think it might be seen. Please visit the website http://www.CaliforniaBoxer.org for a complete list of boxers needing homes, ways to get the word out, and more.
You can also follow us on FaceBook, MySpace and Twitter.

It was a busy week for shelter boxers.
I knew it was going to be bad when the first day of the week I added 17 new dogs.
The total for the week stands at 60 new dogs waiting in California shelters for permenant homes.
I see all but one of the seniors I posted last week are gone - I know the boy in Bakersfield was pulled by rescue, but I don't know the fate of the others. Only sweet Annabelle is still waiting - http://tinyurl.com/mn2wdq -
A couple of new seniors were added this week, but the thing that stood out to me was how many white ones were added.
I've made a couple of improvements to the website - adding the ability to share individual dogs on FaceBook etc, am working on an article section and video library - feel free to contribute. I'm mainly slanting towards helping owners keep their dogs and resources for new adopters.
I'm off to Las Vegas today, but will continue the updates.
You'll get one on Monday as I am bringing my posting week in line with the dog list archive week,
I'll post the updates on Monday and probably post a gentle reminder on Thursdays too.
You know the drill - please spay and neuter your pet Boxers, microchip them and keep ID on them.
There are tools on the website to help you spread the word and help get these dogs adopted.
If you want to get involved, you can do that too!
Thanks for your time and continued support!

Just a note about the new website...
http://www.CaliforniaBoxer.org
I'm still fiddling with it, but wanted to tell everyone about some of
the stuff here.
First and foremost is the List of Boxers -
I update the list every day, so check back often.
Note that at the bottom of each entry there is a link that says "AddThis!"
Click that little link to share that Boxer on your FaceBook, MySpace, blog or other pages!
Membership -
You do not need to register to see the boxers, download fliers, articles or read forum posts.
However, if you do register, you can post on the forums, submit links and articles, create a custom profile page (especially handy for rescues, breed clubs, shelters etc) have access to the mail and instant messaging systems and other features.
That's not to be snooty, its just to keep spam off the site.
Articles -
Hoping to add as much information as I can...
feel free to contribute!
Help Shelter Boxers -
Print fliers to post around town.
Add widgets to your website, blog, FaceBook etc.
Shop - it does take time and money to keep any website going.
More importantly, the CaliforniaBoxer.org logo plastered across your chest is a great conversation starter and helps get the word out!
Forums -
The forums are dedicated to the shelter boxers. Discussing them, getting them from shelter to rescue or shelter to adoption, helping adopters and their new boxer with transitioning, training, health etc...
If you are looking for general boxer chat, a place to locate a breeder or puppy or some such, check the Links menu for a list of discussion groups with a broader focus.
Its my goal to make this website the best it can be and stay focused on the prize - bringing attention to Boxers in California high-risk shelters, encouraging adoption, discouraging irresponsible breeding (and thus the numbers of boxers needing our help) and helping rescues find the resources to also help as many of these dogs as they can.
Please feel free to contact me privately if:
If you know of a Boxer you feel should be listed.
If you would like to help moderate portions of this site.
If you are in another state and are interested in doing something similar to this, I will construct and host a site for you for free and help you get started.
Please do not contact me:
To help you place a dog you must re-home. You should contact rescue diretly, or read these articles on rehoming your dog.
To help you find a boxer - I am not a breeder referral. Please read the articles on finding a responsible breeder, and then join some of the discussion groups listed in the links section for advice.
To suggest I contact rescue about a shelter dog - to avoid burn-out, I am setting guidelines for myself that will allow me to continue this effort as long and enthusiastically as possible. But please, feel free to contact them yourself - it would surely help the boxers!
As always, comments and feedback are always appreciated.
