I met a new critter the other day. Apparently, it's called a skunk.
I was at the park, chasing the tennis ball my person had thrown and there it was. Mr. Skunk is not a friendly creature, I discovered. In fact, I'd say he was downright grumpy.
I had three baths that day: two with a terrible smelling concoction that I hope to never experience again.
My person says I still smell a bit like a skunk, but I can't tell.
This morning when we went to the park to play, guess who was waiting for us? Yes! Mr. Skunk. I REALLY wanted a rematch, but my person wouldn't let me. I think I could take him this time. I really do.
We went to a different field to play ball, and I had a good time. My person hopes that Mr. Skunk is just passing through and is not going to set up housekeeping in the park. Me. . . I wouldn't mind seeing Mr. Skunk again. I don't know why my person runs in the other direction.

Same thing happened to me, also when I was chasing my tennis ball. Got me right in the face, and Mommy got so scared. Yes, the smell lasted for weeks no matter how many baths I got.
My encounter happened late at night, I've never seen a skunk in broad daylight.
You too? I hope it didn't get you in the eyes, because that stings!
Makes me wonder if skunks are attracted by tennis balls... BOL!
we had the skunkeritis, too the other week.
I was not mean or anything, just barked at him in the middle of the night about 2 feet away. As I turned to go back to the mom, it sprayed! right in my face... yikes*
and what did mom and the dad and the girls do??
They laughed! Can you imagine?
AAAAAAND I got one of those baths, too.
I smelled for about a week. Not bad, just a little ;)
Happy skunking, Chief and sonja
I'm sorry you're a member of the skunker-ed family, too, Chief. It must be the season.
My person is laughing about it now, but she wasn't laughing much on Monday.
To get skunk smell of a dog
1 quart of hydrogen peroxide
1/4 baking soda
1 teaspoon dish washing liquid
let it sit on dog for 5 minutes then rinse
Work like a charm...
Thanks, Reilly! That's the mixture my person used! Ugh. Nasty smell. I didn't like it much, but It worked really well, except on parts of my face where she was afraid to get it in my eyes.
