Putting a Price on Puppy Love

The infographic above is chock full of interesting statistics (in this case, that is not an oxymoron) about America's love of pets, and the cost of this love. Click on the infographic to make it bigger, and if it's still not big enough, click on it again.

Some of the figures are mind boggling. Americans spend $1.5 billion on pet food every year, which is four times the amount we spend on baby food. Really? There are some hungry babies or some fat pets out there. By the looks of things, it's the latter. And nearly 40 percent of us have more photos of our pets than our significant others. Maybe that's because our dog's can't kvetch, "No! My hair isn't right! And I look tired today!"

What do you think, Dogsters? Do these figures jibe with your spending and your photo albums?

(A big thank-you to my fabulous editor, Janine Kahn, for sniffing this one out!)
