These boots are made for walking. The New York Times ran a gear test on dog boots, trying them out on a very patient Chihuahua. Dog boots protect tender paws from ice and salt, but some do it better — or more fashionably — than others. The Times’ entertaining slide show gives some insight into the world of das boots. We show a couple of slides below, or click here for the full slide show.

We learned about the boot test from PetConnection — one of our favorite dog sites (other than Dogster). Specifically, we learned about it from one of our favorite dog bloggers (other than me). David Greene blogs for PetConnection twice a week — Monday and Thursday — about the latest dog news and interesting canine tidbits.

David is a man of infinite good taste. I know this because he often sites this blog and says nice things about us. See David’s latest post here. Toward the end of it he mentions my post about Charles Dickens’ dog collar. And he finished it by writing, “What else would you expect from one of the greatest writers in the history of English literature?” “Wow!” I thought. “I knew he liked this blog, but had no idea he thought this highly of me!” Then I read the next sentence. “I meant Dickens no offense, Maria. Youre great, too.” Well, at least I made it into the same sentence as Dickens…

Back to dog boots. (Dickens never would have had such a terrible transition between paragraphs.) Here are a couple of other bootie pictures from the New York Times.

"He looked like he was going to a boxing match, and I don't think he looked very comfortable," said the human end of the leash.

Dogs who wear these booties will be welcome anywhere balloons are in demand.
