Here is the lead in to an excellent article in The Denver Post by Dogster Toddy’s furmom about her frustration and anger in trying to work around the food recalls. Her article highlights the real problems we face as pet parents when we try to buy the right foods.

When my beloved cocker spaniel was diagnosed with inoperable cancer in April, I did what any grieving pet owner would do: I went out and bought poison dog food to help make his medicine go down a little easier.



Of course, I didn’t know then that the celebrity-endorsed venison and brown rice canned food was laced with melamine, a compound that is typically mixed with formaldehyde to make things like countertops and the flame- resistant clothes that firefighters wear.

And how would I know? Melamine didn’t appear in the ingredient list.
