Today, I have been living with my family for a whole year! When my family, on this day last year, went to the Puppy Rescue they found me. Most the puppies there were between 8 weeks and 12 weeks and were tiny compared to me at 14 weeks. I remember, looking at all the people taking puppies to other bigger pins to play with and I was thinking... "hey, I wanna play". Thats when I locked eyes on my mommy to be. I didn't say anything, just looked at her and cocked my head ever so slightly. I sat like a pretty girl, with my back straight, and wagged my tail. It worked, and now I have a pretty awesome life!
I learned not to potty in the house after just 2 accidents. It wasn't hard, Mama, just said "outside" and picked me up in mid pee and took me outside. When I did potty outside she acted like it was the greatest thing in the world. Yea... I know, my mom is a little weird thinking potty is pretty cool, but hey, anything to make her happy.
I also learned sit, down, shake and stay before Christmas. Come, I knew, but I chose when to listen.
Then we went to a trainer, to help mom get my come perfectly, and learn how to heel and she wanted help with some "behavioral" stuff. Well... this trainer wasn't for us, but we learned the hard way. I wore a choke collar, and when I didn't listen, it was yanked on. I just learned to pull harder, and just to behave enough on leash. Once the leash was off, though, I still refused to come. Thats when mom started using more rewards and treats. She said that it was caused positive reinforcement, and she learned it from other dogsters like you. She also started using this at the Doggie Daycare we worked at when other dogs were being naughty by barking or playing to rough. She did say, and still has problems with more naughty behaviors though. She doesn't know how to help me not be so protective of the "best" toys at the dog park, or any food from other dogs, especially small ones. I just don't wanna share, that's all. So, it has come, until I stop guarding broken or squeaky balls from small dogs, I am not allowed in off leash areas for now. I tell mama, that if the little dogs just let me have it, I have no beef with it, but its when they try to take it from me, or growls at me for trying to take it from them, that when I have a problem!! She said this is very bad, and until I can be trusted with all dogs, I can not be trusted with any unknowns! Also, if it is a dog close to my size, I never try to take the toy from them, and if they try to take it from me I just run away and get a game of catch me if you can.
Any way... I am still pretty happy. We go on more walks now, and longer ones too. Also, I get to play with my bff (that's best fur friend to you) at least once a week.
My new favorite tricks right now is "touch", when the target is held way up high, and I have to jump for it! Also, When my mom tells me to "wait" and drops a treat on the floor, I look in her eyes until she says "alright". Sometimes she takes way to long to say "alright" though, but I've become pretty patient. I used to bark after 15 seconds, telling her to let me have the treat, but now I know, she just wants me to give her googly eyes, because I'm to darn cute!
So, yeah... a whole year! I hardly ever chase the kitties any more. I do still try to play with Riley, the old kitty, and the boss... don't know what I can do to get her to play with me more. Oh well.
So... if any of you know how to help me not be the bully to small dogs with cool toys, please let me know. I play with small dogs who are yappy, really well, as long as there isn't a toy, well I did when I was allowed too!

OMD doggies... today I was left all alone in the house for... over 8 hours!! Thats a long long time doggies, a long time for this puppy, very long! Usually I get put in my crate when my mama and papa are both gone, but lately they've been letting me stay out. I've only done it twice before, and they were for short periods. Mama said I did so well those times that she let me stay out today. It was my grandparents 50th anniversary today (I don't know what it is, all I know is I couldn't go). So papa and mama went to the mountains without me. I did real good! Actually I did super:) I played with my toys (I left them all over), I had a kong with peanut butter and I laid on my bed and on the couch too. I didn't pull the cushions off the couch or chew on the wall or try to break into my dog food! Well at least not that mom can tell;) Ohhh... I dranks lots of my water too! Oh boy did I have to pee... but I didn't, I waited! When mama and papa got home I was so happy that I howled and whined and showed my belly and jumped! You know what my mama and papa did? They kept walking and IGNORED ME!!!!!!!!!! Once I settled a bit mama told me to sit and gave me much love:-)~ Then I went outside and peed 5 times! Mama was so grateful that I was able to hold it that long without being in the crate. I heard her tell papa that someone was suppose to let me outside at 3, but I guess she came to early, which was right after mom and papa left. I was glad to see her, but I wish she would've come after I drank all that water. Oh well... I did good... so no need to worry any more mom:)

So sometimes we go to the dog park and I run and run and run there! I love to meet new dogs and love for them to chase me and love to chase them too! Yesterday we went to the dog park and all of a sudden mom kinda freaked out a little. She noticed that I was bigger than all the other dogs and since I still have some growing to do I guess that alarmed her! We stopped by the vet and I stepped on this thing that tells everyone how much I weigh and it said 73.5 lbs! I guess thats pretty big for a 7 month old puppy! My best friend is a year old Great Dane pup and so I guess mom always sees me as being small... well everyone is small next to Scarlet duh! So now mama has noticed I'm bigger than most the pups at doggie daycare to. Most of them are labs and Golden's and small to med size breeds. I'm already a little bigger than the labs! We do have 2 standard poodles that are taller than me oh and labradoodles too... so we'll see if I catch up to them in height. I am only 7 months you know! Good thing for ma that we are learning the heel thing now, cause who knows how much bigger and stronger I'm going to get BOL! Alright... we must go practice heeling so I get an "A" and get to practice on the sidewalk next week!
Bark at ya later!

Sooo... even though mama and papa think I'm the best puppy ever, they decided to get professional help with me. I've learned some of the basics with just mama and papa's help but sometimes when there's something really cool, I don't listen. Plus when a strange person is in our house I started freaking out and bark a real low deep bark at them (actually her... it has only happened twice with the same visitor). Also, I don't like it when a cat or dog gets close to my food/treats.So mama hired this dog trainer/ behaviorist who is going to help us! Today was our first session, and it went pretty well. We only worked on 2 things today. Heel and "no". I have a new collar that kinda looks like a choke chain but the links are small and smooth so my fur and skin doesn't get pinched. Mama had to learn how and when to use it.
We walked around a room for like 20 min. Ma would say "heel", and keeping me between the wall and herself walking me beside her. When we came to a stop she'd say "sit". She had a hard time not saying my name with each command, but she'll get it... she's just not as quick as a learner as I am BOL!
The bad part is, now I have to wear the leash and collar around the house. When I do something naughty, like chase the cat or bark out the window, mom says "no" and quickly pulls the leash to the side. I stop once she does that and she gives me ear rubs for stopping. Mama has to practice saying "no" before the correction, otherwise I will never understand that "no" means to stop, I'll only think the jerking on the leash means to stop. They want me to not have to use the leash every time i'm naughty. Mom can't wait for the day when all she has to do is say no!
Also, mama and papa are going to give me puppy massages every day. I lay on my back with my body between their legs and my head in their lap. While I lay there they will rub my chest and neck, my belly, my feet and my teeth. Not fond of the teeth thing, but all the rest I seem to like. The trainer said that doing this will establish mom & pop's dominance over me in a calm none threatening way and it'll make me feel safe once I get used to it! It's to be 15 min a day... not sure if I can do it that long but I'll try!
ok... gotta go, it's been a long day already, time for a nap!
bark at you later :-)~

So for the last week I had to stay home, and ma says I have to stay home until thurs!!! That is 5 more days! I hate this:( Normally I get to go to work with mom at the doggie daycare place! There is a bunch of dogs there that I get to play with. On the days we don't go to work mom and pop take me to the dog park where I can run and run and run! But not now... because of these stupid stitches in my belly. I keep telling mom that I feel just fine and I can go, but she still says no. So I've found some interesting things to play with here at home. See... there's this cool stuff that mom calls "paper products". I love to find any of these things and shred and chew on them as fast as I can! Yesterday morning, after my morning pee, mom wasn't feeling well so we went back to bed... well... she went back to bed BOL! Mom and papa's "back yard" is a room in the bedroom, they call it the bathroom. Normally they shut this door keeping me out, but not yesterday! Soooo any way... there are a lot of paper products in the bathroom, and I found them all and took them to my bed! There was this roll of really soft paper that I chewed on, it felt really nice. There was also this box of card board tubs that have cotton inside that I shredded and chewed up! I think I got every single one that was in the box! Of course I shredded the box too. It wore me out chewing and shredding all of this paper I fell asleep in this pile of mess. Then I woke up to mama yelling a bunch of words that I can't repeat. I have no idea what was the matter... what had her so upset?! I tried to make her feel better by wagging my tail and giving her puppy kisses but she told me "out" and pointed to the door. Oh well.
So now for the last 2 days, anytime I get these paper things, even the ones on the tables, mom says leave it and gives me one of my squeaky toys. I'd rather have the paper thingys tho.
Mom says she can't wait for me to go back to work, because 2 walks a day isn't keeping me outta trouble.
5 more days... seems like forever!
Bark at you later:-)~

So lately I've noticed people in my backyard area and I don't like it one bit! They aren't my people at all and I alert my ma and pa about it with a new bark I have. Normally I only bark when I wanna play and my mama thinks it's adorable... she calls it my "puppy bark" when I'm up to my "puppy antics". This new bark is what my mom says is a deeper more grown up bark. When I notice these people I run to the back door to alert mom that they are there. Once Ma or Pa comes outside I run towards the fence barking and before I get to close to the fence I make sure ma or pa is behind me. Mama and Papa tell me these people are "our neighbors" and they are allowed to be on that side of the fence! I don't like them because I can't smell them and I don't know what they are up too! The other day my mom took me next door and I saw these people my mom called "teenage boys". At first I was scared but they bent down and showed me their hands and once I sniffed them I was eager for their pets.
These other neighbors though ignore my mama when she talks to them... I can tell my mama is frustrated... maybe that's why I don't like them.
I heard my Mama and Papa talking and my Mom is concerned about my territorial guarding at such a young age. My Papa said that I am about the age and since Papa has had GSD before mom listened. Mom says I need to be socialized with more people but doesn't know how to do so in winter in Colorado. I go to work at Doggie Daycare, but that's mostly dog socialization not people. I've met some people on my walks... but these people I see from my back yard... I don't like them one bit... Oh and there is a strange cat too I bark at. He is not my "family cats" and I tell him to go away. Again Ma tells me that he is allowed on that side of the fence! Papa said that we may have to get a privacy fence... what ever that means.
Bark at you later :-)~

I don't understand what is happening. A couple days ago my Mama took me to that place where they see how much I'm growing and look at my teeth and sometimes poke me. This time my Mama left me with those strange people! I don't remember much except I went to sleep and when I woke up I didn't feel good and my tummy was super sore! I had to stay the night in this strange place and all I wanted was my Mama & Papa and my own bed! These strangers were nice and they gave me a blanket and a shirt that smelled like Mama which made me miss her even more. I was so upset I tore that blanket to shreds!!! Finally my Mama & Papa came and got me yesterday, and I was so happy I forgot how sore my tummy was I wagged my tail and butt and jumped up on them! Mama doesn't let me do that but I forgot. Mama seems even more stern now than ever before... she doesn't even like me running in the back yard! She is also constantly watching me and looking at my tummy. She must know its sore. She seems happy that I am eating. She also is making me "stay" a lot more in my bed in the living room. She also told me I can't go to work for a while which makes me sad.
I can't wait to get better so I can go play with my friends at work and at the dog park, but Mama says I have to be OK with walks around the neighborhood.
Thats all... whine :-(

I was born in the Taos New Mexico area. I don't remember my parents at all. My 2 brothers and I was brought to Brighton Colorado and that is where I met my Mama and Papa! I live in a house in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and experienced my 1st snow and many others and boy is it fun! My Papa says I'm the smartest puppy ever because I learned how to "sit" and "down" on my first day home. I also was potty trained pretty easy... well... I have had a couple accidents but those were Mama's fault! My best friend is Scarlet who is a Harlequin Great Dane... she scared me at first but now I can take her... ah... well I can keep up. I also go to work with my Mama almost every day. It's a Doggie Daycare place where dogs who's parents work a lot get to go and play. It's really fun... when a new dog comes they do a meet and greet process to see if all dogs get along and that's where my job comes in. After the new dog meets a mellow dog and does well, I come in with my puppy energy and lick the new dogs face! It's a great job!!!
Oh... I live with a lot of cats! I try to play with them but they just hiss at me:( Once in a while we play chase tho :)
