Will Spring ever get here for good? I am tired of all this rain, not to mention I am terrified of thunderstorms. :-( I am ready to go camping & see all my doggie pals at the horsecamp. And I am anxious to see some of Mom's friends. I want to show them my new "patty-cake" trick. I am sure it will get me some praise & treats! (giggle)

Not much news to report around here as I haven't been anywhere! I did go for a ride with Mom & Dad on the Ranger Sat. afternoon between rain showers. Dad had the sprayer tank in the back of the Ranger so I was the only doggie that got to go since I ride in the front seat. I was good & didn't get all excited since we didn't see any squirrels.

Well, me & Mom are going to go read some of my doggie pals diaries since I haven't got much to report.
Everyone have a good week.......don't forget Mother's Day!

First of all, thank you, Dogster, for making me Diary Dog of the day! That's so cool!

Ok, so this time I am NOT the doggie in trouble at our house. This past Monday evening, Mom & Dad brought the horses into their stalls for the night. They usually let us dogs then go out & play chase in the horse pastures as they are all fenced so we are safely contained. So out in the pasture us 3 dogs go for some fun chase games & whatever else we can find to do out there. After about 30 or 40 mins. we were all tuckered out from chasing one another & came back into the barn. That's when I heard Dad yelling really loud & what he was saying was not good! He was really mad. Then I saw the problem. Wren, had rolled in some really fresh stinky stuff she found out in the horse pasture. OMG! It was ALL over her. You see Wren gets a bath every Sunday night. Dad even puts some of Mom's Estee Lauder bath oil on her so she smells really good. So Dad was really unhappy with Wren since he had just given her a bath the night before. Boy! She did stink!

We haven't been allowed in the yard at all this week because Dad sprayed it for those yellow flowers that pop-up in the Spring. Personally, I think they are kinda pretty but Dad hates them. Dad is afraid we will eat the grass (as we are sometimes known to do)& the spray will make us sick.

Oh, yea, my cousin, Rosie, is now active on dogster. Hopefully, she will soon have a bunch of new dog pals on Dogster.

Monday of this week was a nice sunny Spring day. When Dad got home from work (he gets home before Mom), he took us dogs in the Ranger back to the woods to see if any mushrooms had popped up. It was great fun. With my new hair cut I didn't get briars & stuff stuck in my coat. We didn't find any mushrooms but it was fun to romp in the woods. On the way back, Dad saw our neighbor man sitting on a bench in his yard. Dad drove the Ranger over to chat with him for a few mins. Our neighbor man, lives alone, except for his HUGE big tomcat named Snowball. Now Snowball is getting some age on him but he often crosses our yard & I see him. When I spotted Snowball sitting there I began to bark. Dad scolded me several times for it but I couldn't help myself. Snowball was just sitting there glaring at me. Darn! I sure would like to get down & chase him. But Dad finished talking & we crossed the yard over to our place. Dad was going out of the barn door & I slipped out too. I made a bee-line across our yard over to our neighbor's yard as fast & hard as I could run. Dad was yelling at me & hot on my trail! But I just had to go see that cat Snowball. I was going to show him I was the "bossy Aussie" & herd him right back into Joe's out building. I could hear Dad yelling & coming but I was too focused to pay attention to him. Well, when I got to the cat sitting there Snowball was waiting & ready for me. All of a sudden the darn cat was all over me, spitting & slapping & scratching. I started yelping & crying. When I was finally able to free myself I ran for home as fast as I could. When I past Dad he took his ball cap off & swatted me! Seriously I just got my tail whipped by that cat & now Dad is smacking at me. I want my MOM!!! Dad let me back in our barn yelling at me the whole while. He didn't even check to see if I was bleeding. Of course, I got a time out but I didn't care--I needed to check my wounds. Then Mom came home. I was soooo glad to see her. AND of course, Dad had to tell her the story. Mom was ashamed of me but she did check my wounds. She told me I would live but it might be touch & go for awhile. Not even funny Mom! I need sympathy! I laid across Mom's lap & she soothed me but did tell me how ashamed she was of me going after Joe's cat. She even went over & apologized to Joe. I guess Joe was still laughing about it. But Mom said my behavior was rude & uncalled for! Joe's cat was fine & strutting his stuff. I was used to herding our barn cat, Albert, around & he never scratches or hisses at me. I have several scratches on my face & one pretty deep one above my eye. I stayed really close to Mom all evening. So my week was off to a pretty bad start. Hope things get better.
Bark at you all later..........and lesson learned from me......don't bother the neighbor's cat....Scar-faced Shelby

Sure was hoping for a nice warm Spring weekend, but it is still unseasonably cool here. I think Mom got my hair cut off too soon. Brrrr.... Sat. I got to go shopping with Mom & Dad. We went to Rural King because Dad wanted to change oil in the lawn mower & his big truck. All right! I love to go there. Sorry Wren, you have to stay home because you get too excited & don't mind your manners like I do! :-) Dad went to the automotive dept. while Mom & I cruised the pet aisles. As usual, I was drawn to some cool balls that were down on the lower shelves. But Mom said "no" I already had way more balls than I needed. Darn! We past several other doggies shopping in the store but I was too interested in shopping myself to pay any attention. I got a bit bored while Mom was getting bird seed & then some peppermint & apple flavored mineral blocks for the horses. Several people stopped & asked Mom what kind of dog I was. Seriously? Mom would just explained I was an Aussie that just got a hair cut. EVERYONE thought I was a puppy. Geeze! Lots of people asked if they could pet me & of course, Mom always says "sure". I don't mind that at all. If they bend down low enough they might even get a kiss. :-) While I was sitting in line patiently with Mom to check out, one of the cashier's told Mom I had really big feet for a dog so small. Can you believe that???!!! Dad started laughing. Not even funny, Dad! Mom just told the lady that I was very sturdy build for no taller than I was. Thanks Mom. Another man said I wasn't as tall as some Aussie's he had seen. Whatever! Geeze, I was about over all those types of comments. Don't they know that Aussies come in different sizes & colors???!! I was pooped out from all my shopping & slept all the way home. After Mom & Dad groomed the horses & went in the house for the night, I had planned to watch a movie with Mom. But.........I fell sound asleep in Wren's big crate in the breakfast area that has 3 huge pillows. Whewwww, that is the first place I headed when we went in & never moved until Mom woke me up next morning to go out. Now mind you, I stay in here with the door open as I just love this big bed. Wren isn't too crazy about me sleeping in her bed but she was in her other crate in Mom & Dad's room.
Sunday was a bit warmer but not much. Mom & Dad mowed the grass. Dad was cold because he was riding but Mom was pushing so she didn't get cold at all. Is it ever gonna warm up & stay warm???
Hope all my doggie pals had a great weekend & warmer weather than we are having. Bark at you all later.........Shelby

Well, no one would recognize me now! I got all my winter coat cut off. I mean really, really short. Mom took me Fri morning at 8:00 am & I wasn't done until late in the afternoon! Whew! But it isn't too bad because my groomer, Michelle, gives me lots of cheese treats. She has been clipping me since I was a puppy. When we got home & went to the barn, my Weim sister, Wren, started snarling & growling at me. It scared me to death. Dad had to hold her because she didn't realize it was me. I know I look different & smell different but geeze, I'm still me! It took Wren about 30 mins. to figure out it was me & then she was ok. Dad really liked my new cut & said I looked like a puppy again. Everyone says that when I get my hair cut off. But I feel better & Mom won't be pulling my hair during my brush outs!

Mom & Dad mowed the yard & all around the horse pasture on Sat. It was cold & windy. Mom was fine because she was running the pusher. Dad froze because he was on the Dixie Chopper. In the afternoon, Dad hooked up the sawdust trailer & I got to go with them to get sawdust. But that wasn't so much fun because I had to sit in the truck. :-(

Mom & Dad wanted to go riding on Sun., but listened to the weather man-- who said gusty winds on Sun. up to 35 mi. per hr. Well, that is dangerous to be in the woods as dead branches are falling. But then it turned out to be so nice with no wind on Sun. so they were both a bit bummed about it. But Dad worked in the yard some more on Sun. trimming trees & bushes. Us dogs got to go with him on the Ranger when he took the trimmings to the back field to burn later.

Well that's about all that happened at my house this past weekend. I just don't know when we will be going camping. It's getting boring around here. I am ready to go do something!

Hope all my doggie pals had a great weekend & a good coming week.....Shelby

Wow! It was awesome this weekend. In the low 70's each day. But to tell you the truth, I am needing a trip to the groomer as I actually got hot this weekend. Mom said it was time for my Spring clip. I don't really mind as I like Michelle, my groomer. She gives me lots of tasty treats & I can't wait to show her my new trick of "patty-cake". I bet she will give me some special treats for doing that! :-)
Mom & Dad went horseback riding on Sat. Of course, we dogs had to stay home because they only went to the horse park for the day. I wanted to go but Mom said it would not be any fun for me to have to sit in the truck or back of the trailer all the time while they were riding. Mom took her new Arabian horse. I was worried since it was her first time to take him out on the trails. But when they got back, Mom looked fine & said the new horse did well for not having been on the trails for 2 yrs. & he is only 8 yrs old. Guess he is what they call a "keeper". I hear Dad say that term all the time. Mom said she was surprised there weren't too many campers in the park for as nice of weekend as it was. I can't wait to go camping!
On Sunday first thing, I got in trouble. Mom was in the house doing housework. Dad was in the barn & was clipping all us dog's nails with that silly electric filer that I just hate. Well, Dad did my right paw, but when he tried to do my left paw, I kept pulling it away & finally I nipped his finger. Oops! I'm sorry Dad but I warned you I didn't want it done. Boy! I got smacked & a "time-out" for that one! AND of course, Dad had to tell Mom on me when she came to the barn. Mom said she was ashamed of me for acting that way. I was crushed because I hate for my Mom to talk to me that way.
On a happier note, Dad took the windshield off the Ranger. I tried to help him. Once he got the windshield off, we all went for a ride in the fields. Mom kept spotting rocks making Dad stop so she could put them in the back. Mom likes to put them around her flowers.
That evening Mom & Dad groomed the horses so us dogs got ignored. But we got a good game of chase & tag going so spent the evening running in & out of the barn into the horse pastures. Whew! I was pooped after that.
Well, hope all my pup pals had a great weekend with warm weather & sunshine. Have a great week.........Shelby

It's been awhile since Mom posted anything on my diary. We've been busy every weekend working in the woods cutting fire wood for camping & building fires to burn up the brush & tree tops. Well, Mom & Dad have been busy doing that, while us dogs run around the fields digging up field mice. My Weim sister, Wren, even got a field mouse all by herself. Whewwww Whooooo! That's a big deal for her.....or Dad made a big deal out of it. (rolling eyes in head) I do it all the time & she is SUPPOSE to be a hunting dog. Yea, right! But we do have a ball running around & digging holes. We are still finding bones back there too. We usually play so hard on Sat. that when we go back on Sun. we mostly lay around & watch Mom & Dad. I have been known to fall asleep on the seat of the ranger for several hours. Of course, I am in full coat & Mom has a time getting all the weeds, dirt & briars out of my hair.
This winter is really dragging on. By this time last year, we had already been camping. It's been unusually cold here, cloudy & just down right depressing.
Oh, I am learning a new trick. Now keep in mind I am not a youngster anymore--I am five years old! I am learning to do 'patty-cake' with Mom. Yea, I know, that's kinda of a baby's game for an big girl like me! But Mom thinks it's a big deal because I would give "high-fives" but would only use my right paw. I would Never use my left paw. Mom was playing with me one night & I started giving her "high-fives" with my left paw. Mom was really excited & started singing the "patty-cake" song. Well, now this was kinda fun. Mom would give me a treat after 4 patties, then I would go 6 patties before a treat so that's how I learned to play "patty-cake" with her. She thinks it's fun so I humor her--mainly for the treats though. :-)
Well, that's about all I can think to tell her to put in my diary for now. I want to go read my doggie pals diaries to see what they have been up to.
Bark at you all later.........Shelby

Mom just logged into Dogster today & wow, we saw my valentines. Thank you to my doggie pals--they're the best pals ever! Of course, my Mom is always behind & didn't send out valentines. Shame on my Mom! But anyway I hope my doggie pals got lots of sweets for valentine. I LOVE you guys!

Well, last Fri. I had to go to the vet for all my shots & heart worm pills. I jumped right up on the scales & sat like a good girl but that might have been a mistake. I gained 2 lbs. from last year. Oh dear, what's a girl to do! The vet wasn't upset as Mom was because the vet said I was solid muscle. See Mom I told you to stop worrying about me & how much I enjoy eating! I stay very active. But Mom worries so about me being overweight because I just LOVE to eat! Mom & Dad were both surprised though because as a rule, I am a bit standish to strangers. Oh, I will great them & don't mind a pet or two but then I go right back to Mom or Dad. But today I was in a really good mood so I gave the vet a big kiss even after I got 4 shots. I even kissed the vet assistant. Everyone laughed & thought I was a good girl, but Mom & Dad were a bit surprised. BUT........I didn't stop there, I kissed a guy in the waiting room & even leaned over the counter & kissed the girl preparing our bill! Again, Mom was shocked. I was just happy & marched right out of the vet's office without a care in the world. Mom & Dad just shook their heads. Now they expect that behavior from my Weim sister, who loves everyone, but not from me. I sure fooled them! LOL!

On Sat. we got a visit from my real Mom. Yep, I know I am adopted & know who my real Mom is, as I see her all the time at the horse camp. She's a really nice lady & has several Aussies including my dog Mom, Tarb. Everyone says I look just like my dog Mom in the face except for my color. My dog Mom is red merle & I am a black tri. In fact, I was the only black tri in the litter. Well, when my real Mom & her friend came over I had kisses for her as well. My real Mom brought her little horse trailer over as Dad is going to replace some boards in the floor.

The rest of the week was pretty uneventful & boring as it has been cold, sunny but cold. Yesterday me & Dad did take the Ranger back to dump some plume grass & branches on the burn pile. I was the only dog that got to go because it was cold & Wren would get too cold as well as Louie, the hound. They don't have as much hair as me. But I did get a little cold myself. The Ranger has a windshield Dad puts on in the winter which helps but it still gets cold going across the open fields to the woods.

Mom said my real Mom is coming over this afternoon because Dad has her trailer all ready so guess I will see her again. Today, I have been hanging out in the barn with Dad as he tidys the barn & puts in fresh sawdust. Sure beats hanging with Mom while she cleans house. Uck! I hate house work. I would much rather follow Dad around in the barn.

Oh, yea, I almost forgot. Thank you Dogster! I was diary dog again. That was cool! When Mom told Dad, he said Mom has too much time on her hands! LOL!

Well, bark at you all later. Thank you again Doggie Pals for my valentines...........Shelby

That's what our winter has been like so far-cold & snowy. This past week has been brutally cold. Not fun! Too cold to go outside & do much of anything. Yesterday, while Mom cleaned house, me & Dad took the Ranger to the back & picked up fallen tree branches & stacked them on the burn pile. Well, actually I guess Dad picked up fallen branches while I dug some holes. Low & behold, I found another huge deer bone. How cool is that? This time Dad let me keep it & take it back to the barn. I was quite proud of my big deer bone.
Today, after Mom finished more housework, we all went to the back to cut down some trees for camping wood & burn the branches. It was cold & blowing snow but Dad & Mom got a huge big fire going so that kept us warm. I ran around with the other dogs searching for more bone. Yep, we found more bones. Dad said someone must have shot a deer & possibly couldn't find it & it died. The coyotes must have found the dead deer & cleaned the bones leaving them scattered about. Regardless, us dogs were having a ball finding them. That pretty much sums of my week. Except for having fun today the rest of the week was b-o-r-i-n-g!

It's been awhile since Mom updated my diary. She has been so busy at work & comes home only to get back on the computer & work some more. I am sure glad I am not a human---I would hate to have to sit at a computer all day & half the night!
There really hasn't been much happening around here. It's been bitterly cold, but we haven't had too much snow since the snow blizzard day after Christmas.
Finally, yesterday (Sat.) after Mom & Dad got back from going to breakfast & getting groceries, we all went back to the woods in the back & started a big fire. Dad cut down some more trees & me & Mom put the branches on the fire. I found the neatest big bone ever! Dad said it must have been from a deer. I spent most of the afternoon chewing on it.
My Weim sister, Wren, didn't go with us, but stayed in the house. She's a big sissy & Dad thought she would get too cold. When Mom called me to come get on the Ranger to go back, I came running the best I could dragging my big bone. I may several attempts to jump on the front seat with that big bone but it was just too big. Then to my amazement, Dad took it away & threw it in the fire!!! OMG! Yes, he threw it in the fire!!! How mean was that!!!??? But he said it would cause a fight amongst us dogs if I took it back to the barn. Boy! I was sure sad because I wanted to show Wren my big bone. :-(
Well, gotta go bark at something.........Shelby

She had planned to take Christmas pictures of me & Wren on the sled with the hound dog, Louie, pulling it. But guess what---she hasn't had time to do that! :-( Just too much going on. Mom was actually off work most of Dec. trying to use up all her vacation. BUT, as usual, she ended up working from home most of that time! Mom got a suprise for Christmas. She got a new Arabian horse! OMG! AND that means another horse around here for me to bark at! Mom & Dad drove to Lexington, KY to see the new horse on Sun. Dad said if she could ride him & got along with him then he was her Christmas present. The ad had said an advanced rider recommended. That kinda worried Dad so he wanted to be sure Mom felt at ease with the horse & he worked well for her. Guess what.....Mom rode the horse in the indoor arena, then outside on a little trail ride & got along great with the horse. So next day, which was Christmas Eve, Mom & Dad went back to Lexington, KY with the truck & trailer & brought the new horse home. The sad part is that I didn't get to go with them. Mom said too long of a ride (4 hrs) & it was all about horses & not dogs on these 2 days. :-( That is just wrong! Plus Mom has been messing with the new horse EVERY single night, which has cut into my ball time! I heard her tell Dad the horse was a sweetie! Seriously??? I could she say that about a horse......I am her sweetie!!!
The day after Christmas we got a blizzard! It snowed & blew ALL day long. I could not wait until Mom & Dad went to the barn so I could go out & play in the snow. Me & Wren ran & ran & ran in the snow. Wren could jump completely over the snow drifts, but when I tried, I ended up in the middle of them. But that was ok too because we were having a ball. Wren would go so fast that she would fall & go rolling in the snow.
Well, I better go because I have to eat one of our doggie peanut butter Christmas cookies.
Bark at you all later.......Shelby

Sure couldn't tell it was Dec. by the weather. It has been great weather all week. Mom's sister came from Louisville, KY on Wed & brought her Pit-bull, Rosie. My Weim sister, Wren, walked around the house growling the first day Rosie was here. Rosie just wanted to be friends with her. But by the 2nd day Wren was 'ok' with Rosie & they became friends & would play. I stayed in the barn during most of their visit--just too much going on in the house. Mom had put me out in the kennel on Wed. because it was so sunny & warm. I like to watch the horses in the pasture from my kennel. Plus, there were men working on the barn roof I could watch. On Wed. afternoon Mom & Auntie Nila came out to get me to go for a walk with Rosie. When I first went up to Rosie, she jumped on me & started growling real mean. It scared me to death. I cried & cried. Mom went all over me & I had no bites so Mom said I wasn't going to die & we started our walk. At first Rosie, the Pit-bull was dragging my Auntie as she had not ever seen such vast fields & all the new smells. I kept an eye on her though as well as stayed on the other side of Mom just incase Rosie decided to jump on me again. But as we walked Rosie settled down & we were able to walk along side by side in peace. We got to go for several walks together. I think all the walking in the fields really wore Rosie out though. She is kinda chubby & not used to that kind of exercise. :-) Auntie Nila & Rosie went home on Sat. Mom said Wren was sad & had searched the entire house for Rosie. She just couldn't understand where her new friend had gone.
On Sun., another warm day, Mom played "Lassie" with me. I LOVE to do that. Mom walked back to the woods & told Dad to bring me back on the Ranger in about 30 mins. Mom hides & I try to find her. Mom had really hid in a good spot this time. There are a couple of big wooden reels that telephone cable comes on that the neighbor's grandson uses when he is target practicing. Behind the big reels are a couple big round bales of hay so that his bullets will go into them. One of the wooden reels had some boards missing so Mom slipped down inside of the reel & hid. Good place because she couldn't be seen at all but she could see us coming thru the cracks. Dad brought me & Wren down to the valley on the Ranger, stopped & let us off. Dad said I immediately started running with my nose to the ground. Mom saw me running past her thru the cracks, then I circled back, jumped all the way on the top of the big bale of hay & looked down at my Mom! I was so excited to find her I was barking & crying at the same time. Good girl, Lassie........so that is how we play the "Lassie game". I was so excited to find Mom it took her awhile to get me settled down. Of course, I don't remember or know who "Lassie" is, but I know what the game means. We all rode back to the barn & Mom played ball with me for awhile. By this time, I was tuckered out & ready to call it a day.
Hope everyone had as nice of weather as we have had because we all know it can't last.

Wow! Can't believe it is Thanksgiving all ready. But sad as it is, I never get any of the good food. Mom may let me have just a few bites of turkey but that will be all. I have a funny stomach & people food upsets it even though I LOVE people food.
Mom's sister is coming next week & bringing her dog, Rosie. Rosie is a pitbull & very sweet. She doesn't know much about horses & barns though. Her family just moved to KY so this will be her first winter to see snow. I guess they don't have much snow in AR. Mom sent Rosie a coat & when she is up here Mom & Aunt Nila are going to take Rosie to the Country Store to fit her for a another good warm coat. Rosie is like Wren, doesn't have much warm fur like me. I love to play in the snow.
Well, Mom is already thinking of ideas for our Christmas pictures. She loves to take Christmas pictures with all 3 of us dogs. Ole Louie, the hound dog, lets Mom do whatever she wants to him but sometimes Wren doesn't cooperate during the photo-shoot. Me, I LOVE to have my picture taken. Mom says I start posing before she is even ready.
I guess tomorrow us dogs have to stay home because Mom & Dad are going horseback riding in Brown County but just for the day. I guess the place is always packed on Thanksgiving weekend with campers. Mom & Dad have winterized & put the trailer up for the winter so they are just going for the day. It is suppose to be 64 degrees here tomorrow. That may be a record for Indiana on Thanksgiving.
Well everyone enjoy Thanksgiving & time with friends & family.

Hope everyone's weekend was as warm & nice as our weekend in Indiana. Not a lot actually happened around our place for us doggies. The men started replacing the barn roof so there was a lot of noise. I did help Dad with the weather vane on the cuppala. Well, maybe I didn't really help that much but mostly watched him.
I am finally playing with my Weim sister again. I don't like wrestling with her anymore but I will chase her in a game of tag.
Mom had said we might go to the Pet Expo in Indianapolis but ended not going. Dad was too busy with chores around the house & getting things ready for winter. Sat. evening me & Wren went with Mom & Dad to get a load of sawdust on the big trailer. It was cool watching that big piece of equipment dump saw dust in our wagon.
Sun. afternoon we all went in the Ranger to meet the new neighbors. They were all out in the yard tending to a big brush fire they had going in their yard. Wow! Their yard is about 5 acres! Their dog was pretty cool, a Wheaten Terrier. He was very friendly. Of course, us doggies had to stay in the Ranger, but I think their dog wanted to go for a ride with us because he kept jumping on the Ranger. The new neighbors have 3 kids & they were all nice too. The littlest girl kept touching my noice with her finger & I wasn't sure what that meant. But her Dad finally told her to stop doing that & just pet me. I liked that better.
Well, that's all for now folks............bark at you later.......Shelby

Hope all my dog pals on the east coast made it through storm Sandy & are safe & warm with their families. We watched all the devastation on TV & feel so bad for all those folks. Our thoughts & prayers are with them.

Let me tell you it has sure been boring around here all week! The weather has been cold & rainy! We even had ice pellets & hail yesterday! Mom & Dad cancelled Halloween weekend camping & also cancelled this weekend of camping because of the weather. Dad & Mom were off work on Fri so Dad washed the camper & winterized it while Mom unloaded all the stuff out of it. Then it was put in the barn for the winter. That's always sad as we know the riding/camping season is over. :-(

On Fri. I did get in some very serious trouble. Well both me & my Weim sister got into trouble. Dad was adding sawdust to the stalls so he didn't see what happened but he sure heard the fight. Me & Wren got into a fight, a REAL fight. When Dad heard it he came running & started yelling & kicking at us. Wren had a hold of the hair around my neck & Dad had a hard time getting us apart. Wow! Once he got us apart he slammed us both in opposite directions. I got a time out to the kennel & Wren had to go sit in the workshop room. Dad did check us both out to be sure there was no blood or punctures from teeth. Neither of us were hurt but we were both mad! When Mom came to the barn Dad told her about it so Mom went all over me again because with all my hair it might be hard to see if I had gotten hurt. Of course, Wren is short haired & easy to see if she had any bites. In the 5 yrs we have been together we have never got into a fight so Mom was very surprised. But Mom knows that when playing Wren gets very rough & will bite hard which makes me get mad when she hurts me. I was mad at Wren the rest of the day & wouldn't even look at her. Wren tried to get me to play with her & even brought one of my balls to me. But I turned my head & ignored her. I was also mad at Dad & wouldn't go to him. When I am mad---I am MAD! Mom brushed me for about an hr so that made me feel better but I still just hung with her. Mom also played ball with me for a long time as I still continued to ignore Wren. I am not sure when I will play with Wren again!!! In fact on Sun. I was still ignoring Wren. Mom played ball with me but I refused to join in with Wren & Louie as they wrestled around in the barn.

Oh yea, on Fri they started putting a new roof on our house. There were people everywhere & a lot of weird noises. Mom & Dad kept the horses up in the barn as the horses were very concerned about all the activity & noise. I went back & forth with Mom as she unloaded the camper & took stuff to the house, but I was not interested in the guys milling around roofing, but stayed close to Mom. Wren did run up to one of the men getting something from a van & scared him to death. Mom couldn't understand what he said, but let him know Wren was harmless & wouldn't hurt him. The man smiled & laughed because Wren startled him so I guess all was ok.
Well that's about all that happened around our place.......Bark at you later.......Shelby

We went camping this past weekend at Brown County horsecamp. The weather was really nice. We were on our favorite site so that was good. Us dogs were especially good. I never barked one time when Mom walked me through the camp. Mom & Dad had decided to test us dogs while in the back of the camper to see if they could not put Wren's, the Weim, crate up. Always before Wren slept in a crate while Mom & Dad were out riding & at night. I didn't have to be in a crate but slept on a big pillow bed. Mom & Dad figured we would wake them up at 5:00 am every morning wrestling around back there as we like to wrestle with each other. Nope, we were good. In fact, me & Wren even snuggled up together because I liked her bed better than mine. :-) Mom & Dad were pleased because that saves them having to haul Wren's crate & setting it up every time. I guess me & Wren are both finally growing up--we are 5 yrs old now. Friday night friends stopped by our campsite so we stayed up a bit later than normal but that was ok because the weather was nice. I did fall asleep on the picnic table though.
We came home Sat. evening because of rain & high winds coming in on Sun. On Sun. morning Mom & Dad went to Rural King (a country store) & I got to go with them. I love that store. I even got a new bed there. Oh yea, there was a witch there that started talking as we walked by. Well, I did NOT like her at all. The hair on my back stood up & I barked at her. This nasty witch came up out of a barrel & started laughing really loud & hateful. I really got mad & barked at her more! I guess I gathered quite a crowd & people were laughing but I didn't think it was funny at all. That witch could have hurt me & Mom. I needed to protect my Mom & make that witch get back in the barrel. Mom finally pulled me away & I settled down. There was a nice family there & they petted me every time we passed them.
Mom & Dad worked on their Halloween props a little bit in the afternoon, but us dogs couldn't go over on that side of the barn. I guess we get in their way because Dad yells at us a lot when we sneak thru the door. I don't like that Halloween stuff anyway so I really didn't care.
Well better go see if anything around here needs barked at.......Shelby

Whew! It was sure chilly this past weekend. Mom & Dad cancelled camping as it poured rain & was cold ALL day on Friday. Sat. was a bit better but still cold. Mom ran errands all day on Friday, Dad was off work too so I hung out with him in the barn. Mom & Dad mowed grass on Sat. & I played with Wren & Louie in the barn. Poor Wren had to wear her jacket all day because she was cold. Sunday, Mom & Dad took only me back to cut some firewood for camping. I enjoyed snooping all around while they cut wood & loaded it in the Ranger. But the min. I heard Dad start it up I jumped in & was ready to roll. In the afternoon, Mom & Dad got in the attic & got all the Halloween stuff out. Eeeeck! I hate that stuff! This year they have an idea to make the gooseneck part of the trailer look like a haunted castle. They covered cardboard with plastic paper that looks like castle blocks. Dad put glue on the cardboard & then papered it. Dad cut windows on each side which scary looking guels will hang. Mom is putting a black light so they will show up at night. Mom has even more spooky stuff to decorate the campsite for Halloween this year. Eeeek again! Most everything is motion/sound activated & makes scary noises. Us dogs couldn't go on that side of the barn where the camper is & they were working because we kept walking on their cardboard. Dad yelled at us several times & finally put us out to the other side of the barn. We just wanted to see & help too. :-(
I think we are going camping this coming weekend. The weather is suppose to be warmer. Mom & Dad try to go as much as they can because we all know winter is just around the corner.

Geeze! It doesn't rain ALL summer & now that fall is here......so is the rain! We were suppose to go camping this weekend, but the weather sounds like it is going to be very cool & rainy. Mom cancelled so I guess we will just be hanging out around home.
I did it again.......got in trouble. Dad was mowing a patch of grass behind the outside run-in sheds for the horses with the push mower last night & I decided to bark & bite at the wheels. Well, Dad yelled at me several times but I didn't listen. But when I got a swift boot in the behind with the side of his foot, I decided to listen! Yikes! It startled me & kinda hurt. After I was over the inital shock, I went & sat down & just watched Dad from then on. I was mad at him though & wouldn't look at him the rest of the evening. Of course, he had to tell Mom on me as soon as she got home from work. But Mom could tell something wasn't right because I was quiet & refused to look at Dad. Dad told Mom he bets I listen the next time he tells me to stop doing something. :-(
Mom is starting to get some of her Halloween ideas together. Her & Dad always decorate our camp site on Halloween. Mom has tubs & tubs of stuff. I don't like some of it though because they move & make weird noises. Last year I would lay on the grim reaper because he kept popping up from the grave making awful noises when little kids stood in front of him. Mom finally had to move my tie-out so I couldn't lay on top of him & the kids could activate his moving & noise. (rolling eyes) Geeze! I don't like those giant spiders that move up & down under the awning either. Me & Wren would like to grab them & chew them up! They are ugly & a few almost as big as me!!! I do like when the kids come to our campsite for trick-or-treat. They almost always drop candy when Mom is filling their bags. Hmmmm..... :-) I used to bark, but I caught on pretty quickly that they have candy so I need to be their friend. (grinning)
Well better go find something to bark at.......Shelby

I guess it's been awhile since Mom has had time to update my diary. Thank you to all my doggie pals for the awesome pirate flags--so cool! Mom is going to have to think back to all that has been happening since her last post. First of all, now that the weather is cooler my itching has stopped, plus my pills help. Mom was talking to her friend (who has my dog Mom) & said she gives her Aussie's Flaxseed. So now I take flaxseed for my dry, itchy skin. We have been camping for the last 3 weekends. Mom & Dad save all their vacation for Sept & Oct to go riding/camping with the horses. We usually go down to the horse camp on Thurs. morning & stay thru Sun. afternoon. Dad really likes his new Arabian horse & Mom said he is a real sweetheart & so easy to handle. He is camping very well on the hi-tie too. I never have to bark much at him as he is quiet. Now Mom's horse, I do have to bark at him because he likes to turn around on the hi-tie & scratch his butt on the hitching rail. I bark a lot at him for doing this because I know Mom doesn't like him to do it because it messes up his tail. Dad says he is just spoiled. Imagine that......one of Mom's animals spoiled???
Last weekend I guess I was kind of a stinker because I got in trouble several times. When Mom was walking me thru the horse camp (2 miles of horse camping) I would bark at the dogs that barked at me as we walked by. I just started doing this & Mom doesn't like it. I can't help it though because it annoys me when they bark at me first. I am bossy & think I need to get my 2 cents worth in. So needless to say, I got scolded numerous times on our walks thru camp. Plus some of Mom & Dad's friends camp to our campsite & brought their little Jack Russell, Dottie Mae, & their 1 yr old blue heeler dog. Mom made me stay in the back of the trailer while they were there because I don't like any dogs by my Weim sister, Wren. Mom said she was not dealing with any bad behavior from me so I sat in the back of the trailer & whined while they were there. Wren hadn't eaten all her dinner so Dottie Mae (the Jack Russell) finished it for her but Wren didn't care. She LOVES all dogs & will share her stuff. Mom says Wren is better "natured" than me. :-( I can't help it if I am bossy & don't like to share my stuff! I don't fuss with Wren or Louie-the hound at home, over food but no way would I let a strange dog eat my food. But Wren just doesn't seem to care--she would rather play than eat any time......not me.....I am all about the food!
We are heading back to the campground again this weekend. Dad is taking his Rocky Mtn mare this time because a friend is buying her. I will miss Dad's mare as she is nice & I can hang out in her stall & she doesn't care. But Mom said she will get a wonderful home & we will see her often in the future at the horse park. In fact, the lady friend that is buying Dad's mare ALWAYS brings special treats to the campground for me & Wren. We LOVE to see her come to our campsite & she gives us treats when we stop by her campsite as well. Hmmm.....nice lady!
Well bark at you all later......I am going to try my best to be good this weekend......Shelby

Ok, last weekend I was in the kitchen hanging out with Mom. Mom was washing some veggies, tomatoes & bell peppers & putting them on a plate on the counter. Well, just as Mom turned around she caught me sneaking a big green bell pepper from the plate. YES, I ate the whole thing........seeds, stem & all! Mom yelled at me, mostly because she thought I would get sick all over the kitchen. She quickly took me outside & to the barn. Dad was in the barn working & knew the min. he saw Mom that I was in trouble. Mom told Dad that I had been counter surfing & ate a big bell pepper & that I would probably be getting sick. But you know what???? I never got sick at all. :-) I LOVE any kind of veggies. Dad told Mom she was lucky that I hadn't stole a big, over-ripe tomatoe as she would then really have a mess in the kitchen. For some reason Mom didn't see the humor in that! Needless to say, I got the cold shoulder from Mom for several hours.
It was another hot & humid weekend so not much happening except some yard work.
This weekend it is raining. ALL weekend it has been raining. We are going camping next weekend-leaving on Thurs. so Mom spent most of Sat. cleaning & loading the camper. Whewww whoo.......I saw a couple of bags of tasty bones going into the trailer for us dogs. Mom always gives us dogs a big chew bone while they are out riding. Hmmmmm.........While Mom cleaned the camper, I helped Dad clean the barn. Only problem Dad stepped on me numerous times as I am always right with him. Dad didn't mean to, but says I am like a velcro dog! Well, since Mom wouldn't let me in the camper with her what did he expect me to do. I knew they were getting ready to go camping & I didn't want to risk getting left behind. I sure have sore toes today.
Well that's about it for now. Can't wait to go camping next week.
Gotta go take a nap.......Shelby

The weather was awesome here. On Fri morning (Mom is off on Fridays) I had to go to the groomer. Mom put a big fuzzy throw over the other front seat & let me sit up front with her. Cool! Mom had just given me one of my 'itch' pills, which make me sleepy so I slept the whole way, waking up only when we pulled in the groomers. I did cry just a bit when Mom left. Mom went to meet her girlfriend for breakfast. I knew it was Jan as I smelled her dogs on Mom when she picked me up later. Jan fosters pitbulls & is very active in their rescue. After Mom picked me up from the groomers we went home & Mom started sweeping & tidying up the barn. Mom & Dad were going after a new horse the next day & they needed to get his stall all ready.
Sat. morning after breakfast, Mom put me in the outside kennel. I was NOT happy about this because I saw they had the truck hooked up to the little trailer. I think every time that truck comes out of the garage that I should be in it. I let it be known too. But Mom & Dad left without me. Several hours later they came back with a new horse. All the horses out in the pasture were excited to meet the new guy so I had lots to bark at as the horses all milled around the new guy right by my kennel. Sat. night Mom gave her horse a bath & Dad was busy grooming his new horse so I knew they must be planning to go somewhere riding the next day.
On Sun. morning right after breakfast, Mom put me in the outside kennel. AGAIN, I was NOT happy. I knew they were leaving again without me. Mom & Dad were gone a good part of the day. Actually it's not too bad when they are gone & I am out in the kennel as I can lay on the deck & watch the horses in the pasture. Mom & Dad finally pulled in late Sun afternoon, unloaded the horses & FINALLY paid some attention to me! Geeze! Mom said she saw my Aussie friend, Izzy, at the campground & that she thought Izzy's Mom had a new puppy. But turned out Izzy had a hair cut & Mom just didn't recognize her at first. I hung out with Mom & Dad the rest of the day.
Mom said pretty soon we will start camping again. I can't wait. It's been a boring hot summer.
Well, I better go now. I need to bark at the new horse when he comes up to the water tank. He doesn't know the routine around here so I need to be sure he understands that I am the "Queen of the Barn".

Oh boy! Finally some cooler weather & some rain. Things are beginning to look green again. This past weekend was busy for Mom & Dad as they spent both days working in the yard. Dad decided to re-level all the landscape blocks holding the gravel in the drive-way to the barn. Now that was kinda boring to me. I laid under the tree & watched him for awhile but couldn't stay awake. Mom was bored so she got the push mower out & mowed ALL the road ditches all the way down to the next road. Of course, it was mostly just a weed here & there as nothing has been growing in the heat & drought. I don't know why she likes to mow so much & push mow at that! Uck! But she likes getting the exercise & making things look nice too. Since she was so close to the road I couldn't go with her. Mom & Dad said it would have been a great weekend to go riding/camping. Yea! But they hadn't made any reservations at the park & decided they would be riding regularly in a couple of weeks anyway so better get stuff done around home. :-( B-o-r-i-n-g! When Dad got the Ranger out & me & Wren did get to ride around on it for awhile. The trouble with that is.......we don't want to get off when it stops. Dad has to make us get off---just like to be there ready when it goes again. I did get a time-out on Sat. evening for mauling the barn cat. Well, not really mauling him.....just herding him around. I guess Dad got tired of watching me push the cat here & there & told me to get on the settee & stay there. :-( Thank goodness Mom popped in the barn when she did because I got to go water the flower beds with her. :-) The neighbor man was walking down the road while we were in the front watering. He stopped to chat with Mom. I was going to run to him & bark but Mom yelled right before I got the chance. So I had to sit & stay as she won't allow me to go that close to the road. I did sneak up where they were talking once, but Mom made me go right back & lay by the flower bed. Darn it! Dad was watching me & told Mom he was amazed that I went right back to the flower bed & laid down while she stood by the road & chatted with the neighbor. Mom just smiled & patted her pocket.....saying, "it's all about getting that treat at the end". Yep, I can be good knowing I will get my favorite bacon treat when we are all done. :-)
Well that's about it for this past weekend. Sure will be glad when we start camping & doing some fun stuff.
Bark at you all later......Shelby

I want to thank everyone for the cupcakes. Mom couldn't believe when she logged on there were so many cupcakes for me! Hmmmmmm..........
There hasn't been much happening around our house except for 'hot & dry' so Mom hasn't posted much lately. On Friday I did have to go to the vet for an allergy shot. I start itching every fall & this year it was a few weeks earlier than normal. The vet said molds in the air is what causes my itching problem. Mom & Dad noticed me licking & biting at my feet so Mom thought it was time for a shot. I really don't mind going to the vet at all. First of all, when I sat on the scale, Mom clapped because I had lost 3 lbs since Feb. Cool! Now can we get ice cream on the way home? I got my shot & the vet gave me a cookie because I sat there & didn't even flinch. Of course, Mom was holding a yummy bacon treat in front of my nose which I was intently concentrating on while the vet gave me a shot. :-) The girl at the counter thought I was such a good girl that she gave me a cookie too. Whewwww Whoooo! Two cookies & a bacon treat ALL for a little ole shot! That works for me! It's all about the food for me!
Sat. I hung out mostly with Dad as he worked in the barn. Mom was busy in the house & I HATE housework. On Sun. morning we were all awaken by a bad storm. It was thundering so loud & the rain was intense. When it got daylight, we had 3 big trees down in our yard. Dad cut them up with his chain saw & the neighborman brought his tractor over & drug the big pieces to the back of his property where we will cut them up more & burn them next winter. I got to help with the clean up & ride around with Dad on the Ranger. After the cleanup was all done, we just hung out on the patio. I did sleep a lot, but my allergy meds makes me sleepy.
Well that's all for now. Gotta catch up on doggie pals diaries as it's been awhile since Mom has logged on.

I sound like a broken record. But that's what it has been here, hot & dry. Mom & Dad are still watering flowers & shrubs every evening so I do get to help Mom do that in the evenings. Last Sat. & Sun. Mom & Dad worked in the building out in the pasture the horses use to get out of the weather. The birds had been tearing up the insulation on the ceiling so Dad decided to put plywood over it. Of course, that meant that Mom had to paint it. Dad had the electric saw out there working on the ceiling while Mom was giving the walls a 2nd coat. Us dogs were having a ball running & chasing each other. Well, until me & Wren got tangled up & both went rolling in the dust. I guess we created quite a dust cloud while Mom was painting & she yelled at us both sending us to the barn to settle down. Geeze! She gets 'testy' when it's hot. Later though Mom let me come out & hang out with them after Dad got the new ceiling up & was helping Mom paint. But then Dad discovered a small damaged place on the inside wall in the wood that wasps were going in & out of. Yikes! Mom ran & got the wasp spray & filled the hole full of spray. The wasp starting flying out of there like crazy & there were lots of them. I was laying a few feet away & here they came after me. They got on me so Mom started screaming for Dad to help get them off of me. I wasn't sure what I was suppose to do. Mom was yelling & trying to scape them off of me with a paint scraper. Dad would step on them once Mom flicked them off of me. Whew! That was scary. Mom couldn't believe I didn't get stung. Honestly, I wasn't sure what was happening or what I should do. Mom said I didn't get stung because the wasp were so droggy from the spray they probably weren't able to sting. Dad filled the hole with wood putty & painted over it. At least that little bit of excitement was over.
The neighbor lady stopped by to give Mom some dog food for Louie the hound dog. The neighbor lady lost her dog last week & her dog ate the same food that Louie eats. It was a bag full of soft dog food, which Mom says I can't have but since Louie is getting old Mom mixes the wet food with his dry. Louie has trouble eating the dry food now unless Mom mixes it with gravies. Hmmmm.........it sure smells good & I would love to have just a bite, but Mom & Dad start yelling at me if I even go near Louie's dish when he's eating. It's hard though 'cause it sure smells good!
Oh yea, I did get in some serious trouble Sun. evening. The barn cat came in the barn so all us dogs went to greet him. I kinda like to 'herd' him around & the cat doesn't seem to mind it. Louie, the hound, came over & started sniffing the cat. Well, I didn't like him doing that because I was busy with the cat. I growled & showed my teeth at Louie. Wrong thing to do! Louie came right back at me with a growl & snarl. Dad jumped up & grabbed me by the back of the neck & shoved me over in the corner yelling at me the whole time. I never moved because I knew Dad meant business. I knew that behavior is not allowed but I kinda forgot when Louie came near the cat when I was playing with the cat. But I am ALWAYS the one that gets in trouble for it. They never said one word to Louie & he growled & showed his teeth back at me. Mom says it's because I am an 'alpha' dog but her & Dad are the 'alpha' people & they have the last say. I am not sure I understand all that but I do know I will think twice before I show my teeth to Louie again! (*sob-sob*)
Well bark at you all later........Shelby

Yep, we had another week of record breaking heat & no rain. Mom took me Sat. morning to get my hair all shaved off again. I didn't really want to stay when I saw Mom leaving & cried a little bit. My regular lady, Michelle, was busy so a strange lady took me back for my bath. I didn't know her at all. I don't mind going back with Michelle but I didn't want to go with a stranger. But I was all happy when I saw Mom come to pick me up. I can see everyone coming in the front door thru the big windows while I am on the clipping table. When I heard the door bell ring as Mom opened the door, I started wiggling all over. Michelle could hardly get my hair bows in. Who cares! I hate those silly hair bows anyway! Mom takes them out of my hair as soon as I get home. She has saved them all & has a crystal box full, as well as a drawer full of scarfs. I always get a scarf too, but Mom has to take that off as well because Wren likes to grab it & drag me around. When we got home Wren didn't growl at me as she is now used to my shorter hair cut.
We couldn't do much outside because it was so hot. Wren had to stay inside in air conditioning because she kept getting sick when she came out in the heat. Whewwww! I don't get sick as I am used to it but I do enjoy laying in front of the big fan in the barn. Dad waxed the trailer & had a big fan on that side of the barn so I hung out with him on Sun. while Mom mowed some weeds around the horse pasture. Dad kept telling Mom to stop because it was so hot & he was afraid she would get sick but Mom kept on mowing even though me & Dad sure couldn't see anything to mow as the grass is all dried & brown.
My Mom's sister & her dog, Rosie, may come to stay with us for awhile when they sell their house in AR. They will be moving to Louisville, KY, which will be so much closer. We are all excited. Rosie, is a Pitbull & very sweet. We like to show her around the barn & horse pasture. Rosie had never seen a horse before so she wasn't too sure about them. Rosie had never seen much snow either but we had snow when she visited before so she got to play in the horse pasture with us in the snow.

Whew! This past week has been brutally hot & humid with NO rain! I can't even remember when I last saw Mom & Dad mowing the grass. Everything is brown & grunchy. During the day, Dad has been leaving me in the barn instead of my kennel. Even though I have a nice tree that shades my kennel & a wooden deck, Mom & Dad were afraid it was just too hot out there for me. I don't mind staying in the barn while they are at work because the horses at inside during the day now so I need to be in there to look after them. Plus, I can snooze on one of the settees. My Weim sister, of course, stays inside the house while they are at work. But she stays in a big crate all day. I would not like that at all as I need to be with "my herd" which happens to be 3 horses. Although I stay in a crate when we are camping while Mom & Dad are out riding. But I much prefer to be outside where I can see the horses. Plus I like to 'boss' the barn cat around now & then. *grins*
Well, Mom is on this 'teeth brushing kick'. For the past week, she has been brushing my teeth every evening. (rolling eyes in head) Heck, Mom I thought that is why you gave me a greenie every day.........to keep my teeth healthy........and NOW I have to have my teeth brushed as well! I really don't mind it too much because I like the dog flavored tooth paste. **smiles** Of course, my Weim sister wanted in on the act so now Mom is brushing her teeth as well. As for our hound dog, Louie, he has opted to 'pass on the brushing'! LOL! Smart boy!
No fireworks around our place as it would have been far too dangerous because of the drought. Us dogs were all fine with that as the fireworks & popping noise always scared us in the past.
I think I am going to the groomer Sat. as I heard Mom tell Dad to put it on the calendar. Mom always asks for the groomer, Michelle. I like Michelle--she gives me cheese treats & last time she even shared her lunch with me. Hmmmmm...

It's been awhile since me & Mom sat down at the 'puter' to update my diary. But that's mostly because there hasn't been much happening. We are in a heat wave right now. I am sure glad Mom got my hair all cut off last month. In fact, Dad said I could use another 'buzz job' as my hair is starting to grow out again. Dad said I am getting a bit fuzzy looking. *frown* What's that suppose to mean?? We haven't had rain in quite awhile & the grass is all brown & crunchy. The horses have to come inside the barn under fans during the day so they won't get all sunburned & so the bugs won't bother them so much.
Mom & Dad have been watering the flower beds every night. Mom always lets me go with her to help. She just mentions the word 'water' & I start getting excited. I LOVE to help water the plants. Wren doesn't get to go with Dad to water because she won't stay close by him & the cars fly up & down our road. Me, I stay right by Mom, lying down next to the flower bed she is watering, following her when she moves to the next one. But mostly I LOVE watering because Mom ALWAYS has a treat in her pocket for me after we are all done & I have been good. :-)
But this hot weather does wear on me & sometimes I get a bit grumpy with the other dogs. I got into trouble twice so far this week for showing my teeth to Wren when she was running & bumped into me. She is fast & much bigger, almost knocking me down when she hits me. So, of course, I get mad. But little good it does me as I am ALWAYS the one that gets in trouble. Dad really yells at me for being 'snippy'. I usually run to Mom but get no sympathy there either. Mom said I am 'alpha' & cannot be allowed to be 'snippy' with the other dogs. ~Whatever!~ Wren gets by with ALL kinds of stuff. (grumble)
Last weekend Mom decided to paint the inside of the horses' run-in shed a darker color. She thought it might keep the bugs down as the horses hang out in there when out in the pasture to get away from the bugs. I helped her.......well, maybe I just laid out there while she painted. It was all shaded so not too bad.
Well, like I said, not much happening for me lately.

It's sure been hot here--in the 90's. Mom took me for my summer cut this past Sat. Wow! Pet Agree was packed with dogs getting hair cuts. It has never been that busy before. I made friends with a really nice cockapoo while we waited to check in. He was a cool guy & very friendly. I also met a nice schnauzer & a part-border collie while we waited. I got snarled at by a chihahua but the owner said she didn't like any dogs so I didn't take it personally. When I got home, my Weim sister didn't even recognize me. She growled at me & I ran into Dad's workshop room to hide from her. I know she was making fun of me. But I do feel much better & it's so much easier for Mom to bath me. Michelle, the lady that clips me, said she didn't find one flea or tick on me. Mom was concerned because I had so much hair & we had been camping in the woods for the past 5 weekends. Mom had found a tick or two on me but they were dead. I guess that expensive heart worm stuff (Trifexis) really does kill fleas & ticks too. :-)
Not much happened at our house over Memorial Day weekend. It was so hot Mom & Dad did not take the horses out. They stayed home & worked in the yard trimming bushes & trees. We did have company on Sun. afternoon. They had a little 3 yr boy who liked to make me do tricks. I was fine with it for awhile since I was getting a treat each time. But it was hot & after awhile of him yelling at me to do my tricks, I decided I had had enough & stayed by Mom. Mom could tell I was done, & told the little boy I was tired. I guess the little guy has an Aussie pup & is used to playing rough with him. Well, I am not used to playing rough or being poked so I was starting to get a bit 'testy' & Mom knew it. Thank you Mom!
We are heading for the horse campground this weekend. Mom said it is suppose to be much cooler. We dogs always get excited & can tell when we see Mom & Dad putting things in the camper. I stay on Mom's heels so she won't forget to take me.
Oh yea. Mom's cousin has a new shelty puppy named "Poppy". She lost her shelty of 8 yrs earlier this Spring & heart-broken over it. Mom said another lucky puppy will get a great home. Mom is waiting to see pictures. I bet she is a cutie.

We sure had some nice weather camping last weekend. It was much cooler. This time, I managed to stay out of trouble before we left. I sure didn't want another one of those "power showers" like the week before! We got to the campground early Thurs. morning & it was great. There weren't a lot of folks there yet & it was quiet & so peaceful. Mom & Dad went for a ride & then in the evening went to visit some folks they have known & been friends with for over 30 yrs! Of course, me & Wren got to go with them. We just laid around while the Mom & Dad visited with them. I didn't mind since it was quite a long walk from our campsite to their campsite--about a mile.
My Aussie friend, Izzy & her Mom stopped by to visit on Sat. evening. I love to play with Izzy--she is so sweet. Dad had to put Wren in her crate though because she kept barking & barking at Izzy & even acted a bit aggressive. Guess she didn't want me playing with Izzy, but me & Izzy are the same kind & seem to know it. We got home from the campground early Sun. because they had cut the hay & Mom & Dad had to get it in the barn. I don't think Mom & Dad were too happy about having to do that as they were tired from camping/riding, but it has to be done.
That's about all the news.......going camping again this weekend. It is suppose to be much warmer & I still have my winter coat. Whew! Hope Mom remembers the big fan for me! Mom said I have an appointment to get my hair all cut off next week. I can't wait!

Mom had been sick with a bad cold most of last week, even staying home from work one day. The plans were to leave Thurs. morning for the campground. Mom & Dad were taking a few days off work…….well Dad was since Mom is off on Fridays anyway. Wed. when Mom got home from home she started washing her horse. Since Dad gets home first he had already washed his horse & was brushing her dry. Mom pretty much had the camper all ready with clothes & food so all she had to do was wash her horse. So once Mom was done with washing her horse, brushed him dry, put his sheet blanket on him for the night, she sat down with Dad to take a break. While Mom & Dad had been busy with the horses us dogs were out in the horse pasture running around & playing tag. Exhausted from running, I decided to go inside the barn & check on Mom. I was taking a little break with Mom & Dad laying between the two settees when Mom kept saying, “pewww-wweee somebody must have stepped in something”. Then Dad noticed me……………….OMG! Mom & Dad both started yelling at me at the same time. Yea, I had rolled in some fresh green horse manure but other than that I sure didn’t understand why they were so upset & yelling at me! Yikes! They seemed so upset & disgusted with me I was beginning to worry. Mom jumped up, snapped on my lead & dragged me to the horse wash bay! Oh, no……..I knew what that meant………a bath! I couldn’t believe it when Mom sprayed me with the horse’s EZ wash soap. Mom I am a dog…….not a horse! But I could tell Mom was not in the mood for me to give her any trouble! Geeze! She was mad at me! Guess I am lucky she didn’t wash me with the power washer! After my bath, Mom put down a towel in front of the floor fan in the barn & gave me strict orders NOT to move from that spot until I was told. Wow! I had no idea my rolling in a little fresh horse do-do would make Mom so mad. I guess it was the fact that she didn’t feel all that great & she thought she was all done in the barn until she got a ‘whiff’ of me. Needless to say, I sat on that towel in front of the fan as quiet as a mouse until Mom told me I could get up.
We left for the campground early the next morning. We didn’t get our regular site but we had a good site. It was very warm & quite humid all weekend. Mom said the horses were good……..Dad was riding his mare so no issues there. There was a thunderstorm Friday night which scared me & my Weim sister pretty bad. When camping, we have to stay in the back of the trailer (where the horses ride) in our crates. Even though Mom had the fans running back there for us, the thunder was really loud & we could hear the rain beating down……AND it even hailed. The horses didn’t have their canopies up over them but Mom & Dad had put their blankets on them so they didn’t seem to mind the storm while tied at the hitching rail, but me & Wren were sure scared & glad when it was over.
The rest of the weekend was uneventful with Mom & Dad riding during the day & taking me & Wren for walks through the camp in the evening. Boy! I was sure tired when we got home after 4 days of camping!
We are leaving for the horse camp again in the morning for another 4 day weekend. Mom said the weather should be much better, cooler this weekend & no rain/t’storms. Good! I hate storms.
Better go & see if there is anything I need to bark at…………..Shelby

A lot has happened around our place since Mom last posted for me. For starters, we went camping weekend before last. It was Dad's new horse's 2nd camping trip. Of course, we dogs were all excited as we can always tell when Mom & Dad are getting ready to go camping. We stay right on their heels as they put stuff in the trailer. On the day we actually leave my Weimaraner sister won't eat her breakfast & she is practically bouncing off the walls. (She is very excitable) Of course, I eat my breakfast but I do stay really close to Mom to make sure she doesn't forget to take me.
This camping trip started off like any other, arriving & setting up camp. We dogs were put on our stake outs which allowed us to sniff around to see who had been on our favorite site last. When Mom & Dad were all set up, they put us dogs in our crates with a chew bone & saddled up the horses. AGAIN, when Dad went to get on his new horse, the horse acted terrible, threatening to buck & going backwards. Finally Dad got him going straight & off they went. But I guess the new horse acted bad the whole ride, prancing & threatening & trying to buck Dad off. Finally, Dad had had enough & got off to walk the horse back into camp. Geeze! I knew something was really wrong when I saw Dad come walking back into camp leading the horse. Mom was riding her horse so I knew all was good there. I heard them talking & learned the new horse was going back! Dad had Mom text the lady who had Dad's mare & was selling her for him. They were praying Dad's mare had not been sold as they knew a lady from MD had said she would take her but was negotiating the contract with the lady that was selling her for Dad. Mom said they call her a 'marketer', whatever that means. Mom got a hold of the lady marketer, Jennifer, & told her to mark our mare Hanna sold that they would be there first thing in the morning to pick her up & bring the gelding back. Wow! Us dogs are sure glad because we loved the mare & she liked us as we played in her stall every chance we got. Mom wouldn't let me go to Bowling Green, KY the next day with them though. She said it was a 4 hr drive & I would get bored.
It has been below normal temp. through most of April so I am sure glad I still have most of my coat. But, Mom said she will be taking me for a hair cut later this month. That's ok, because it makes me cooler & Mom doesn't pull my hair so much when she brushes me.
We are heading for the horse campground tomorrow. Mom & Dad are taking a couple of vacation days from work. Whewwww Whoooo! We have our usual favorite site & both Wren & I have bones hidden there. Can't wait to dig them up!!! I know exactly where I hid mine.......by the big sycamore tree. *grins* Wren buried hers & dug it up & re-buried it so many times, she may have a hard time finding hers! LOL! Mom said this will be a much more relaxing trip as Dad has his trusty mare back. We are all so glad as she was part of our family. Dad said he didn't realize what a good horse she was until he almost lost her. And of course, after trying the gelding.
I also want to touch on the storms we had pass through yesterday. Wow! The thunder & lightning was really bad. We were all in the barn last evening when one of the storms hit. I didn't use to be so scared but as I get older those storms really scare me. I ran to the tack room & hid in the corner, but kept coming out to check on Mom. I don't know why she doesn't come in here with me where it is more quiet & safer. I was a nervous wreck until the storm passed. Wow! I hate those things!
Well better start my day,
Bark at you all later.........Shelby

Yep, I got in big trouble yesterday evening in the barn. :-( The barn cat, Albert, was coming down the stairs from the hay loft. This stairs has swinging doors at the bottom so us doggies can't go up there. The cat usually jumps between the spindles when he comes down. Well tonight I decided I would be waiting on him. When Albert jumped from between the spindles, I grab a mouthful of hair! OMG! I didn't realize Mom & Dad were watching & saw the whole thing unfold. Now, at our house or I should say barn, the dogs are NOT allowed to bother the resident barn cat, Albert. With a mouth full of black & white fur hanging out of my mouth there was no denying what I had just done. :-( Wow! Dad was really mad & started yelling at me. I started to whine & cry. Dad sent me into the little workshop room & closed the door for a time-out, but before that he REALLY yelled at me. I knew the minute I turned around & saw Mom & Dad standing there that I was in trouble before Dad started yelling at me. I had to sit in that dark room for 5 mins. all by myself. I was so sorry for what I did, but sometimes I just can't seem to help myself where that cat is involved. I never hurt him & he even sleeps on the settee with me, but sometimes I just like to chase him. The rest of the evening wasn't good for me. Dad wouldn't even look at me & Mom ignored me as well. I was very sad & just laid on the settee by myself. The other dogs ran & played in the horse pasture but I was just too upset because I hate it when Mom & Dad are mad at me. I always cry & whine. When my Weimaraner sister gets in trouble it never seems to bother her. I wish I didn't take things so seriously. I know I did a bad thing but sometimes that darn cat teases us dogs because he knows we will get in trouble if we bother him. Mom says we all have live in harmony & there will be no bullying the cat. :-( Usually when Dad grooms his horse I go in the stall & sit & watch. I sure didn't go in there tonight as I knew Dad was still mad. I didn't even try to go into Mom's horse's stall either. I just laid on the settee & moped all evening. Sure hope tomorrow will be a better day for me. :-(
So sad..........Shelby

Hope everyone had a nice Easter--AND no doggies got sick from too much candy! Our weather was great ...

Hope everyone had a nice Easter--AND no doggies got sick from too much candy! Our weather was great.
Hooray! We finally got to go camping this past weekend. We all left early Fri morning for the horsecamp in Brown County, IN. The weather was beautiful & we got our favorite camping spot. Dad was anxious to see how his new horse would do overnight camping. This means he would be on a high-tie at night. Now Mom's horse has been doing this for several years but this can be a whole new ballgame for a horse that has never done it. My job cames into play as I let Mom & Dad know if the horses are misbehaving on the line by barking, which I am more than happy to do. (*grins*) But Silks, the new horse, did just fine on the high-tie. He wasn't too sure about eating out of a hay bag at first but soon caught onto it.
Wow! The first ride out on the new horse got off to a very bad start. Dad's horse started acting up after he mounted. Silks wanted to buck & started going backwards. Mom & Dad didn't know what the problem was because he was fine when they went trail riding a week ago. Mom said it was a good thing I was in the back of the trailer because I would be barking & only upsetting the horse more. :-( They finally got the horse going, but he was still acting up. Mom said on the first big hill out of camp she was really worried Silks was going to 'pitch' Dad off. At the top of the hill, Mom & Dad met up with some friends & they all talked for awhile. Dad got off his horse & decided to loosen up the saddle thinking he had the saddle too tight. Well, that was the problem. Mom said after that, Silks rode off just fine & they had a really nice 5 hr. ride.
Meanwhile back in camp, me & Wren were in the back of the trailer enjoying the big chew bones Mom always gives us while they are out riding. When Mom & Dad got back & after they attended to the horses, they took us dogs walking. I have to tell you I had forgotten my manners a few times & got a couple of "corrective interviews" from Mom. When we passed by a few dogs & they ran out & barked at us, I barked back. Hmmm........I had forgotten Mom does NOT allow me to do that so I got in trouble a few times.
All in all, we had a good weekend. But I was sure tired when we got home. In fact, I slept ALL the way home! I guess changing my routine just tires me out. Plus I had to keep a watch out on the horses on the high-tie at the hitching rail. Dad took a few pictures of me, snoozing on a picnic table. So embarrassing! Mom will probably post them later.
Well better go & see if anything needs barked at!.......Shelby

Hi Eveybody! Well, let's see what's been happening since Mom last posted for me. Last weekend, Mom & Dad went trail riding for the first time. They just went for the day so us dogs had to stay home. My Weim sister was really upset. When we hear Dad get the big dully truck out of the garage we think it always means we're going camping with the big trailer. Not so this time. :-( Wren was running & jumping all around, but I knew when Mom put me in the kennel early that morning that it meant we would not be going. I guess Dad's new Arabian did really well his first time out on the trails. Mom said he looked around a lot in camp but was a good boy & took all the activies in stride as there were several people camping. Mom said the trails were a bit muddy but nothing too bad. We were just glad when we saw them pull in the drive that evening from riding. Mom's Arabian, which is retired, stays home so I still needed to watch him & bark at him when he would come up for a drink of water so I had work to do even though they were gone all day.

Yesterday, Mom & Dad had to go to a funeral so we didn't get to do much at all. When they got home, they brought the horses up & spent most of the evening grooming on them, ignoring us. :-( I wouldn't stay out of Dad's horse's stall though while he was vacuuming him--I did get in trouble for that! :-( Geeze! I just like to snoop around in the sawdust & his horse doesn't seem to care, but Mom & Dad don't like me in the stalls when the horses are in. Heck, Mom & Dad couldn't find me one evening & was calling & looking everywhere. Finally, they noticed I was in Mom's horse's stall asleep in the corner! She had accidently shut the stall door not noticing I was in there. Scooter, Mom's horse, didn't mind me in there at all & he never bothered me. I was just catching up on a few zzzzzzz's. Mom seems to forget I AM a 'herder' & like to be with the livestock. (rolling eyes in head)

Mom & Dad had planned to go trail riding again today, but it was pouring rain when they got up so their plans changed. They decided to go out for breakfast & then to Rural King to look for a water tank for the back of Dad's truck. AND I got to go with them. Hey! I LOVE to go to Rural King! It's a great farm store & they give away free popcorn & all the little kids always give me some of their popcorn. Whewwwww Whoooooo! That works for me!

The sun popped out this afternoon & it turned out to be a nice day after all. We all went mushroom hunting in the woods for a bit. No luck & Mom was afraid everyone would get ticks on them. Mom said they say the ticks are bad this year. Uck! I hate those nasty things. The new heart wormer I am on is suppose to kill fleas & ticks immediately if they get on me. Mom said it was expensive enough it better work. :-)

Well that's about all that has been happening around here. Hope everyone is enjoying the Spring so far! Remember the Easter bunny comes next weekend. I am NOT going to chase him because he brings treats & surprises! :-)
Bark at you later.......Shelby

It's been another record breaking week of temps in the 80's here in Indiana. Sure glad I got my hair trimmed last Sun. It's still a bit long for the hot weather but it feels better & Mom says it looks better. The lady came & put shoes on Mom & Dad's horses last night. Although I only got to see (sniff) her briefly as I have to stay out in my kennel when she is shoeing. Mom also put my Weim sister in the kennel with me. The Weim HATES being in the kennel though so she cries & howls the whole time. Geesh, it's not bad in my kennel at all with plenty of shade, nice gravel to do our business & a wood deck with two nice dog houses. Plus we can see the horse pasture. Us dogs can't be in the barn when the shoer is there because we like to grab the hoof trimmings & chew on them. Wren & I both get sick EVERY time we eat those things! Last night as the farrier was leaving, Mom let us out of the kennel. I went over to sniff her shoes & Wren grabbed a hoof trimming before Dad had gotten them all swept up. Well, somehow Wren got a piece of hoof trimming stuck in the roof of her mouth. How in the world did she do that? Dad had a hard time getting it un-stuck & out of her mouth. Mom didn't have much time to spend with us after the farrier left though. She had to fix dinner & then had a conference call for work for an hr. later in the evening. :-( Then she wonders why I hang so close to her when I can. She is gone all day at work & in the evening she has to split her time with the horses & us dogs. Mom said Dad's new horse was a bit nervous getting his shoes on. Another good reason I shouldn't be in the barn when the farrier is there. When the horses are dancing around or misbehaving, I get upset with them & bark at them. Mom says that would not have been good for the new horse. Mom's horse was good getting his shoes on so I could have sat by Mom while she held him. :-(
Well better start my day & see if there is anything out there I need to bark at.............Shelby

Hello Everyone! Isn't this weather great? It sounds as though it is all across the country. It was 80+ degrees all weekend. I think I had mentioned that Mom was going to attempt to clip me & Dad talked her out of it. Well, I did go to the groomer on Sun. for a shampoo & my first summer clip. Michelle, the groomer, told Mom she would trim my belly, legs, my white apron but leave the back since this is still only March. But Mom said if the weather continues to stay so warm she would be bringing me back in about a month for a shorter clip. I get really hot in the summer & it is much easier for Mom to bath me if I don't have so much hair. Since I had gotten so mad when Mom was clipping me with the scissors last week, she was anxious to ask Michelle how I did. Especially since I cried when Mom left me. I kept weaving in & out of Mom's legs not wanting to stay when I first got to the groomer's. But when Mom picked me up, Michelle, said she really didn't have any problems with me. :-) What Mom doesn't know is Michelle gives me LOTS of peanut butter dog cookies while she is clipping. :-) Hmmmmm........Mom forgot to tell Michelle about my diet.
On Sat. morning I got to go to the Country store with Mom & Dad. I love to go there. Mom & Dad get our dog food there. They have dog stuff, horse stuff, cool jewlry & clothes, plus really unique gifts. Mom lets me do some shopping while I am there too. Whew! I went straight for the dog aisle & started to grab myself a pigs ear. Almost had it when Mom said, "no". She reminded me that I had gotten sick the last time I ate one. :-( Mom found a really neat fountain for in front of the barn though. So Dad & the man had to take it apart & load it in the back of Dad's jeep. Hey, where am I suppose to sit?? There sure wasn't much room for me with the dog food & that fountain in the back of the jeep.
Mom & I went for a walk in the fields on Sat. afternoon Our neighbor man is 80 yrs old & had taken his backhoe tractor back there earlier in the day & Mom was beginning to get a bit worried about him since he had been gone so long. He is a wonderful neighbor, lives alone & owns about 200+ acres all around us. He lets Mom & Dad cut wood back there & do whatever we like. We dogs LOVE to go back there & run & snoop around as we can be off leash & have a ball. There is also a creek we like to play in. Mom & Dad also get their hay for the horses from him. But Joe was fine when we got back there just working on cleaning a fence row. Mom still worries about him & I do too because Joe is really nice to me & tells me what a good dog I am. :-)
Oh yea, we had company on Fri. evening, Dad's 2 neices & sister-n-law stopped by. Mom & Dad were in the barn when they got there so us dogs stayed out there while everyone went inside to visit. When they were leaving they wanted to meet Dad's dog, the Weimaraner. Mom warned them that she gets very excited when company is there & told them not to let her jump on them. Mom explained to them that life was a "bowl of cherries" to Wren & she was a party girl! Well, as usual, Wren was excited & jumping all over the place. She jumped on Tammy, Dad's neice, twice & almost knocked her over. When they asked Mom to meet me, I came out smelled their shoes, they petted me, then I went over & sat by Mom. They all laughed at mine & Wren's different demeanors. I like people but I would rather be with Mom. I did go through several of my 'little tricks' for them & they clapped for me. (**grinning**) Yep, my Weim sister goes all crazy when people come--she just gets so excited. (rolling eyes in head).
Well better get my day started.........bark at you later.......Shelby

Hi All! Well it's the 2nd week of my diet. Mom is taking me on more walks & since the days are nice I am out in my kennel where I can see & bark at the horses in the pasture for more exercise. This past Sat. morning I was out in the barn with Dad (while Mom was inside doing housework)& I was in Dad's little workshop room in the barn. This is where the dog food is kept in plastic stacker containers. Well, being the little 'smarty' that I am, I had been watching Mom & Dad open the bin with the dog food. So, while Dad was cleaning stalls, I went into the workshop room & was working the latch to open the bin door to the dog food. Cool! I got it open, flipped the lid with my nose & there was my dog food. Cool! Oh no, Dad appeared at the doorway! BUSTED! I guess Dad heard the scraping as I worked the latch & caught me! :-( Needless to say, Dad put key-pin latches on the bins.
This has been a bad week for me! Mom was brushing me out on Sun. afternoon in the barn. I really wasn't in the mood to be brushed & wanted to go play with the other dogs. Plus, we had been to the woods & I had twigs & grass in my coat so it was hurting a bit. Mom kept insisting I be brushed so I started pouting, which is what I do when I am made to do something I don't want to do! Then Mom decided she was going to try clipping me since I haven't been to the groomers yet this Spring for my first hair cut. She was using the scissors to trim off my "butt fluff" & asked Dad to bring the clippers. Oh no! Dad felt the same as I did! Now, my Mom is nice, but she is NOT a good dog clipper. Dad was able to talk her out of it convincing her that Michelle, the groomer, does such a nice job that Mom should just wait & take me there soon. Whew! That was close.....thank you Dad! But I was still pouting at Mom for making me sit & be brushed. Mom finished & said I could have a cookie for enduring the brushing. At this point, I am mad & don't want a cookie. She called the other dogs for a cookie, but I just sat there & refused to come & get a cookie. Yep, I was mad! I sat there pouting at her while she gave the other 2 dogs 3 cookies each! Big deal, when I am mad, I am mad! Mom called me a big baby & "grumpy pants", which just made me even more mad. I pouted for about another 30 mins. before I finally decided to join the family again.
Our weather has been great, in the 70's this week! Could be an early Spring. Mom & Dad are anxious to go camping & trail riding. Especially Dad as he has that new horse to try out on the trails. Dad's new horse is pretty nice & I go in & out of his stall all the time. Silks, (the horse)doesn't mind me at all & I even sniff up all his legs. I like him the best.
Well, better go bark at something........Shelby

AND I'm starving! I LOVE to eat. 3/4 of a cup of dry dog food twice a day just 'ain't' getting it for me! :-( When the other dogs get a dog cookie, I get a greenie. Don't get me wrong, I like greenies, but they are NOT the same as a cookie.
This past Sat. we all went to the woods so I got lots of exercise. I even scared up a rabbit & almost caught it. I think Mom was glad I didn't though. Sunday was a 'kick-back' day. Dad did take me for a ride on the Ranger, to check on the fire we had the day before. I got to snoop around a bit while Dad bunched up the stuff that hadn't burn. The fire started back up so we stayed to make sure everything burned up.
Oh, & my new heart worm pill didn't make me sick so that was a good thing. It is a Lilly/Elanco drug & that's where my Mom works so she was glad it agreed with me. The vet said some dogs get sick & they don't keep it down.
It was really cold over the weekend, but Mom said it is suppose to warm up this week. I think Mom & Dad are anxious for Spring so they can start the camping/trail riding season.
Well, it's past my bed time.

I had gained 5 lbs. since last year's annual visit. Mom was upset as 5 lbs. on a dog as short as me is NOT a good thing. Mom has always been so careful with my diet she couldn't believe it. The vet told her to cut my dry (Taste of the Wild) to 3/4 cup twice a day. I am currently getting 1 cup twice a day & let me tell you one cup of dry food isn't very much! :-( Mom admitted she probably was giving me too many of the doggie treats for doing my tricks & when she teaches me new ones. Soooo......it's back to just cheerios for a trick. I like those but I have to admit the doggie treats are better.
:-) Mom had also added a little left over chicken & dumplings on my dry food when she fixed it for her & Dad. Guess that won't be happening anymore either. Dad did come to my rescue by saying I hadn't been as active this winter as I usually am. So guess I am on a diet until the 5 lbs are gone. Mom keeps telling me it's for my own well being. Seriously??
Today, Sat., Mom had some work to do on the computer so me & Dad went to the woods. Dad told Mom I was a good girl, helping him in the woods when she came to the barn this evening. But honestly I wasn't feeling my normal self & just wanted to take a little snooze while they groomed the horses. Mom & Dad said it might be from all my shots yesterday. Maybe I will feel more peppy tomorrow.

Boy,these mild sunny days sure can give a doggie Spring fever. Mom is off on Fridays, so when she got back from the store she decided to brush me & give me a bit of a hair cut. Oh no! I get a bit nervous when I see Mom with those clippers.........not that I am afraid of clippers but just don't have too much confidence in Mom's hair cuts. I could end up looking like a "Texas poodle"! I would just as soon Mom let the groomer, Michelle, give me my hair cuts. Mom brushed me for a long time then started the clip. It wasn't too bad this time, as she just snipped off my "butt fluff" & leg feathers. She did trim my white neck apron a bit too. When Dad got home, he thought I looked pretty good. I must say, the brushing & combing sure felt good & put me right to sleep.
Of course, Mom & Dad groomed the horses for an hr or better that evening. I just sat outside Mom's stalls & whined a bit. I did go into Dad's horses' stall & watch for a bit. Mom never lets me in her stalls. But her Arabian will kick a dog so that's why she won't let me in his stall. Sometimes I get to go in the Rocky Mtn horse's stall & watch while she grooms him as he doesn't mind doggies.
On Sat. a man & his family that Dad works with stopped by. He brought Dad a snow blade for the Ranger. Dad told him if he came up that he would give him a truck load of fire wood. I liked them a lot & really liked their little boy that was 2 yrs old. I love kids & never jump on them or hurt them. I helped everyone load the wood in the truck. My Weim sister was acting all hyper, jumping on everyone & knocking the little boy down so Dad had to put her in the workshop room of the barn while we loaded wood. I am sure glad I didn't get in trouble for acting like that!!! My Weim sister just gets to excited when she meets strangers or we have company. I like them ok, but after a quick sniff, I usually go back to being by Mom's side.
We are going to the woods on Sun. to cut some wood & build a fire. Last weekend, Mom & Dad were tearing out an old rotten bridge & burning it that was over a little creek. I was worried to death about Mom when she scooted out on the big timber to remove a rotted top board. It worried me so I tried to jump up to my Mom to warn her to be careful. I was afraid Mom would slip off in the creek. Mom kept sssshhhh me & told me to stop "playing Lassie"! I was only worried about her. :-(
Well, better go sit on the Ranger to be sure they take me to the woods with them.............Shelby

We just found out that Mom's cousin's dog, who was also named Shelby, has gone to the Rainbow bridge unexpectantly. Mom said they had taken Shelby to the vet last week because she was having difficulty breathing. Then her Dad took her back to the vet on Friday & Shelby died at the vet's. Shelby was a beautiful & very loved Shelty. She was also a dogster.com dog. I could tell Mom was very sad about it & felt very bad for her cousin. Mom said, like me, their Shelby was their "baby" & they will miss her terribly. I can usually tell when Mom is in a somber mood, so I tried really hard to pull her out of it by bringing my ball & putting it in her lap. I thought sure if Mom started playing ball with me she would feel better, but she didn't want to play ball with me at all. Dad did take me for a ride on the Ranger. Mom didn't want to go because she said it was too cold. AND it was cold! The windshield helped but the wind was really cold. Me & Dad didn't stay in the woods long it was so cold. Mom said she would go to the woods with us tomorrow & we would build a big fire & burn the tree tops that Dad chops down for campfire wood. Oh boy! It's more fun when we all go.
Well it's my bedtime.............Shelby

Wanted to thank Dogster.com for making me diary dog of the day Feb 1st. What a fun surprise! The picture was really cool! My Mom printed out the picture & pinned it on the bulletin board in the barn. I just know the other dogs are drooling over it! Hee! Hee! Dad says I am such a diva!
This week when Mom came to the barn she brought left-over chicken & dumplings to mix in our dry food. Hmmm..........I love it, but then I love any food. I just LOVE to eat. I only get one cup of dry (Taste of The Wild) dog food in the morning & one cup in the evening. Yep, only one cup. Mom watches my weight very close as I have a tendency to be kinda chubby. :-( Plus I rarely get any people food as I have a very sensitive stomach. Mom & Dad feed all us dogs morning & night in the barn together in a triangle. They think it helps in preventing us from being food aggressive. Since I am the 'alpha dog' Mom & Dad were mostly concerned about me being aggressive over food, but I never growl or fuss over food. Of course, since I get the smallest portions, I finish first. I do walk over & watch my Weim sister eat. She eats soooo slow.........geeze. I am not allowed to crowd her or eat any of her food so I just watch her eat. She is so picky too. Sometimes she won't eat any of her food. Can you believe that? Mom says I am a good little eater & always eat my food. Louie, the hound, gets the most but he is like me & always eats his food. But we never fuss or fight over food so I guess feeding us together is a good thing, but I sure don't understand my Weim sister being so picky. (rolling eyes in head)
Mom & Dad are still giving the new horse a lot of extra attention. After Mom gets her horses groomed, she helps Dad groom his new horse as they are still getting to know him & helping him settle in. Mom says horses grieve just like us dogs when taken away from their families so I guess it's ok that the new horse is getting so much attention. But it is sure cutting in on my 'ball time' with Mom & Dad. :-(
Gotta go, I think there is something they need me to bark at..........Shelby

Hi All: Monday morning brought a beautiful, warmer than normal, sunny day. Mom worked from home since the parking garages where she works had to be cleaned after the Super Bowl. I mostly just hung out not doing much of anything. When Dad got home from work I helped him in the barn. Mom was later coming to the barn because she had some kind of conference call for work. Since the new horse came & Dad is trying to 'bond' with him, Mom & Dad spend most of their time, after bringing the horses in, brushing & clipping on them. Geeze! What about us? But Mom did take time to play ball with me. Dad had told her he sure wished he had the camera as he caught me snuggling with the barn cat, Albert, on the settee. But the min. Mom opened the barn door, I jumped down. So embarrassing!
Dad's new horse is settling in very well & they think he is going to be a sweetie. Not as sweet as me I bet! :-) The new horse seems to be used to me as well as the other dogs, but Mom says I can be the most annoying as I like to bark at the horses when they come up to the water tank. Silks, the new horse, does just like the other horses.....ignores me. :-( Hey, I'm an Aussie & they should listen to me!

Hi All! Well, everyone is all fired up for the Super Bowl & most everyone has had a chance to enjoye the NFL experience downtown Indianapolis. Of course, I didn't but I have seen a lot about it on TV. Honestly, I probably won't be able to stay awake for the actual game. I start getting really sleepy about 8:00 pm! :-(
I hung out all day with Dad in the barn. It was raining most of the day. Dad had left the back door of the barn open & I spent a lot of time out there watching the horses. Well, needless to say, Mom was NOT happy when she came to the barn & I was soak & wet. But Dad said I needed to be a dog & do what I LOVE to do--watch the horses. Yea, Dad! Mom had to towel dry me & I could tell she was a bit annoyed. :-(
Well, last night when Mom & Dad brought the horses in for the night Dad's new horse had spent the day rolling in any mud he could find in the pasture. WOW! He had mud caked on him. Poor Dad would have a job getting all that off. AND, he didn't want to use the vaccum on him yet until the new horse was more used to all of us. But while Mom & Dad groomed the horses, us dogs decided to get in a 'full-blown' game of tag. We were running out of the barn into the pasture & then back into the barn at top speeds. We would make a big sweep around the Ranger which was parked in the aisle of the barn & then back out again. But Mom said the new horse was watching it all but didn't seem to be bothered by our craziness.
I was sure tired after all of that & fell asleep on the settee even before Mom & Dad were finished in the barn.
Well, that's about all for this Sat.

Wow! On Friday morning Mom & Dad were up & in the barn at 2:30 am! What in the world was happening? We never eat breakfst this early. Although I kinda new something was up because Mom & Dad were putting stuff in the little trailer & every night the past week grooming Dad's mare to the 'hilt'. Mom was clipping on her one night for hours, all the while I sat in the stall door watching. Well Friday, at 3:00 am. Mom & Dad loaded Dad's mare & headed out. Once again, I did not get to go. It turns out they were on their way to Bowling Green, KY to take Dad's Rocky Mtn mare & pick up Dad's new Arabian gelding. Mom was still kinda sad to take Hanna, the mare, because she was such a good horse, but Dad wanted another Arabian. It was going to be a nice day near 60 degrees so Mom said I could stay outside in the kennel while they were gone so I could watch the horses & bark at them when they came up to the water tank.
Mom & Dad pulled in the drive to the barn about 2:30 pm that afternoon. I was anxious to see the new horse. They put him in a stall in the barn though & I couldn't see him. But later in the evening when Mom brought her Rocky Mtn gelding & Arabian gelding in for the night I did get to see the new horse. Heck, he looked just like Dad's other horse to me. What's the big deal? But he did seem to be kinda nervous & jumpy about stuff. Dad spent a lot of time grooming him & Mom told us dogs to be quiet & not be playing tag in the barn until the new horse got used to us being so loud & wild. Hmmm........so what are we suppose to do meanwhile. Mom gave us all a bone to chew on so we stayed busy for the first night of the new horse's arrival. That horse has a strange name......Silks.....that's kinda funny name for a horse, but Mom said it was part of his registered name & we would all get used to it.
Well that's about it for this week. I'll let you know what the new horse thinks when all 3 of us dogs are playing tag & running full blast from the pasture into the barn & then back out again.

I helped Dad in the barn all morning. He always puts fresh sawdust in the horse stalls on Sat. & tidies up the barn. Sometimes he says I am too much help. :-( Dad & Mom had gotten the little 3-horse bumper pull horse trailer out of the barn to take his Rocky Mtn mare to the vet for her vaccinations & coggins on Friday as they will be taking her to KY next Friday. Since we always take the big trailer w/living quarters camping, the little trailer sits in the barn most of the time. Dad said it was dirty & he wanted to wash it inside & out before the trip to KY, but he wouldn't let me help so I hung out in the barn. Then, Mom & Dad decided they needed to replace on of the rubber mats. Since they were going to Rural King (a farm store) Mom said I could go with them. I love to go there. They have all kinds of farm animal stuff including lots of dog stuff. Mom let me shop through the dog isles, but I really didn't find anything that I wanted. Mom tried to interest me in a stuffed animal, but I am too old for that baby stuff. There were some rabbits in a cage that everyone was picking up but I couldn't care less about them. Now if there had been squirrels in that cage that would have been a different story! There were several other dogs in the store, but I didn't know them so I wasn't interested. I did get petted by a lot of people & one lady gave me a dog biscuit. I ate it, but it was rather dry & tasteless. When we got home, Mom & Dad brought the horses in for the night. They groomed them all. Me & my Weim sister kept pushing the stall doors open & going in & out of the stalls. Of course, Mom kept shooing us out. Of course, the barn cat sat on Mom's lap which he has gotten into a habit of doing every night. Hmmmmm.......when he sits on her lap, I jump up on the settee & sit as close to her as I can. Mom thinks I like the cat, but I would just as soon he not sit on her lap.
That about does it for my day.

We are one week closer to Spring! It's been cold, rainy & cloudy all week. I am so ready for Spring or just a dry sunny day would be nice!
Well, Mom & Dad went to Bowling Green, KY last Sun. to see the new horse, but I didn't get to go. Mom said it would be a long drive & a long day. I was beginning to worry before they got back home though as it was getting kinda late. Mom said Dad took the horse out for a trail ride. I guess they both really liked him, said he was very sweet & cute. (rolling eyes in head) That's suppose to be me.........not a horse! Anyway, they are going back next Friday to bring the horse home. Mom said the new horse is used to dogs because the barn dog went out on the trail ride with Dad & another client that was trying out a horse. (shrugging shoulders) Mom never lets me go out on the trails with them anyway. She says another horse might kick me. Guess Mom has seen other dogs get kicked by strange horses on the trail & some horses spook at dogs.
At least on Sat. Dad took me on the Ranger with him to the woods. He let me off to chase a squirrel which was fun. I never seem to get to them before they get to the darn tree though & I run as fast as I can go. I am the only one of the dogs that like to chase squirrels.
Well not much news to report except for Dad's new horse that is coming next week. I will let you know what I think of him once I meet him. Personally, I like Dad's mare. She is nice & doesn't care if I go in her stall & sniff around. But Dad likes his Arabians so Mom said we would have to sell the Rocky mare. Mom's kinda sad about it but she gets attached. :-( Poor Mom..........bark at you later......Shelby

Oh yea, the Super Bowl 'buzz' is in full swing in Indianapolis. Mom said she has a great view of the Lucas Oil Stadium where she works & can see as downtown takes shape for all the Super Bowl activities. I sure would like to go & see all the sights but Mom said that won't be happening. :-(

Brrrr.....is it ever cold--8 degrees last night. Guess our luck of mild winter weather ran out! We got a couple of inches of snow & bitter cold winds this week. Good thing I have my full winter coat. And with this cold weather not much happening to report. Me & Dad took a ride on the Ranger today. It was too cold for the other dogs, but I don't mind as long as I get to go. I hung out mostly with Dad today because Mom was busy running errands, & cleaning house. Of course, we had barn chores to do as Dad strips the stalls every Sat. & always needs my help.
Dad is thinking about getting a new horse......another Arabian. He misses his Arabian & Mom says the Rocky Mtn mare just isn't filling the void. They are going next weekend to look at the one Dad has picked out. I am so hoping Mom will let me go with them. I promise I will be good & mind my manners. I have been hanging especially close to Dad so he won't say 'no' to me going with them.
Hopefully this bitter cold won't last & we can be outside more.

Not much to report today. Mom worked inside most of the day, housework & then on the computer. Mom has to meet with an attorney on Mon. to give him a statement about what she saw in a fatal accident. Mom said she wanted to get it all typed up ahead of time. So I hung out with Dad ALL day. My Weim sister stayed in the house most of the day as well. Dad took me back to the woods in the Ranger. I LOVED that! Dad even stopped & let me chase a squirrel up a tree. Dad calls me his "squirrel dog". :-) I think that is a good thing. When Mom came to the barn she did play ball with me for awhile. She also brought out some yummy broth that she poured over our dry dog food. Mom has to be very careful with me as I get sick if I eat any kind of people food. For the most part I only get dry dog food & my doggie treats. Well, that's about all that happened today.

Well, Mom had to go back to work this past week. It was still a short week for her as she is off on Fridays. She works 4-10 hr days. Dad gets home from work first & we hang out in the barn with him doing chores until I hear Mom's car. I can just barely see out the barn window if I stand on my tip-paws. Dad says my whole back half starts wiggling when I see Mom pull in. It was really cold early in the week, but was near 60 degrees on Friday. Mom gave us dogs really good bones every night this week while they groomed the horses. Mom says it sure keeps us quiet & we are not ripping & tearing thru the barn chasing each other while they are trying to groom horses.
Not much really fun to report this week as it has been a kinda quiet week. Dad took us dogs all for a ride in the Ranger this afternoon while Mom cleaned house. That's always fun. I was hoping me & Mom could go for a walk on Friday when it was so warm but she was gone most of the day running errands. She still has to go to therapy for her finger on Fridays too.
:-( Guess her finger will never be the same, but she said she would just have to deal with that.
Our neighbor stopped by today bringing some of our mail she received by mistake. She has two Aussie's too-Beau & Bailey. I have only met them once when I was little. She said that her red merle is a bit ill towards other dogs so Mom didn't think that it would be a good idea for us to meet. Mom says I am an alpha dog, what ever that is. Mom said I have been well socialized, not sure what that really means, but I do have lots of doggie pals. I never fight with Wren or Louie. I do try to herd them around, but they usually don't pay any attention to me. :-( But, if a dog is aggressive, I will not back down. So Mom avoids those kind of confrontations.

Yesterday I was hanging out with Dad in the barn while he was working in his workshop room. Well, here comes Mom & my Weim sister with sacks of hats & decorations. Mom announced to me & Dad it was time for a "photo shoot". Oh boy, here we go again! The only good thing about pictures are all the treats. I don't really mind wearing the little hats, but my Weim sister doesn't like them at all. She just doesn't understand it will only be for a short time & there's a treat at the end. Mom had a theme in mind for the New Year's pictures. "If you party, be sure to have a responsible designated driver". Of course, the driver was to be me since I always sit in the front seat of the Ranger. Mom's plan was to have my front paws on the steering wheel with Wren & Louie in the back, but my legs were too short to reach the steering wheel. :-( I tried but almost fell with Mom catching me. That scared me. Mom decided I could just sit in the front after that. Louie, the hound dog was fine with the hats & props, but Wren-the Weim, was acting all silly & jumping around. She gets all excited over nothing. (rolling eyes in head) Yep, Mom had her hads full with her, she kept knocking stuff off & jumping in & out of the ranger. Louie was fine with all of it & Mom got some great pictures of him with some goofy glasses. Louie is laid back & loves our Mom. He was dumped on our road & wandered up & down for 3 days until Dad stopped & brought him home--8 or 9 yrs ago. He had been abused & it took forever to get him to trust them completely. Mom said when they brought me home, I hung on Louie's ears everywhere he tried to go. But he never growled or got mad about it. Then the Weim came & she was forever jumping on him & biting his legs. Poor guy. Well, hope you liked our New Year's pictures. Here's wishing all of my doggie pals & their people a great new year!

Where did the time go? I will be 5 yrs old this year--August 1st. :-) Mom can't believe I will be that old. Mom said I sure wasn't a little puppy for long--she blinked & I was grown. I do remember going to puppy obedience classes though. I was the youngest but the BIGGEST puppy there! I went through puppy obedience & then puppy intermediate which involved 16 weeks. I liked all my classmates even though most of them were little "fu-fu" types. I especially liked my little Pug-friend, Lucy. She always wore clothes to class & in 16 weeks she never wore the same dress. Then we went to agility for a season. I sure enjoyed the 'home-practicing' for that! Dad made all the equipment for home & we got to practice almost every night. We had a ball!
Mom has been off work all week, but the shower project has taken a lot of her & Dad's time. It's almost done. Mom said this weekend we are going to play in the barn & take some pictures. Mom said she is going to do a little video of me--if she can get Dad to run the camera. I can show you a few of my little tricks. (*wink*) I am really fast weaving thru Mom's legs! I will do most anything for that treat at the end! But Mom said that's ok, because everyone likes a paycheck after work!
My Aunt Nila (Mom's sister) who lives in AR wanted Mom to send her all the pictures of us dogs as she is working on a project. Mom said she had no idea what she was doing but sure it would be a great surpise whatever it was. Aunt Nila came last year to our house & brought her dog, Rosie. Rosie is a Pit Bull that 'smiles' ALL the time. She is really sweet.

I hope everyone got just what they wanted for Christmas--new balls, chew toys, stuff toys,& lots of yummy treats.
Mom & Dad don't have much family left & what family they do have live in other states so they usually do a "house project" for their Christmas. This year was a new shower in the laundry room. We dogs get our baths in this shower so Mom & Dad are putting in a bigger one.
Christmas Eve day Mom & Dad had to go pick up tiles for the shower in the laundry room & other supplies. Us dogs stayed home, but I wanted to go with them. Most of those kind of stores let dogs in but Mom said it was just too busy with Christmas shoppers & I needed to stay home. :-(
Our weather has been unseasonably warm this Christmas. Mom took me on a 4 mile walk Christmas Eve day & on Christmas day we went on a 3 mile walk. Dad was busy installing the new shower in the laundry room. Mom said he was grouting the tile so we needed to stay out of his way. My Weim sister did get grout all over her face though. Mom said she is so nosey & has to check everything out. I sure didn't want to get that messy stuff in my coat!
Mom had gotten some new conditioner for the horses manes & tails so while they groomed the horses in the evening she gave us dogs some really good bones. Wow! That kept us busy the whole time they were grooming horses. (We usually run & chase each other in the barn & end of getting on Dad's nerves because we are so loud & crazy.)
Last night Mom brushed & combed ME for about an hour. Whew! That felt so good that I almost fell asleep!
Hope everyone is busy enjoying their new Christmas stuff.

Well, you guessed it, raining again here. Today it really rained. I heard if this rain were snow we would have had almost a foot! Not much to report in the way of activity! My Mom was on vacation again today, but worked a few hrs to stay caught up at work. Then she started cleaning out the attic. Dad had said they needed to take some of the stuff stored up there to the Good Will. So Mom went up & down bringing stuff down. She had a pile to throw away & a pile to go to Good Will. Me & my Weim sister had fun snooping thru the stuff. Wow! She had a huge box full of dolls & stuffed animals. The Weim LOVES stuffed animals & Mom was forever scolding her to leave that box alone. Me,....I was just snooping for anything that looked interesting. That project took up most of the day. When Dad got home we all went to the barn. The horses were soaked to the skin when they came in so Mom & Dad didn't groom them. Instead, Mom played with me. :-) She put me thru all my tricks. She hadn't done that for awhile, but I did really well. Dad told Mom I wiggled a little bit, when she told me to sit & stay & then left the barn for a few mins. I kept trying to stretch my neck to see if I could see her & where she might have gone, but I stayed until she got back. Darn! I wish she wouldn't do that trick! I worry when she leaves the barn & want to go with her. Dad played ball with me, while the Weim & old hound dog wrestled around. I did play chase with the other dogs when they got to racing thru the barn chasing each other. That's always fun until we start getting on Dad's nerves & he makes us quit. Well that was pretty much my day. Bark at you later...........Shelby

Well, it's winter time in Indiana. So far we have been very lucky with only rain. But that makes for some long boring days. My Mom had so much vacation time to use up that she only had to work 6 days in Dec. She has been taking me for long, long walks which I love to do. We have a county road near us that has very little traffic so Mom & I walk that road. There are several dogs that live on the road & they come out & bark at us, but none of them ever leave their yards. I like the Beagle & Bassett hound even though they bark at me, their tails are wagging so I know they like me. :-)
When Dad gets home from work, we all go to the barn to bring the horses in & feed them. While Mom & Dad groom the horses, us dogs go out to the pasture & run around chasing each other. We are not allowed in the horse pasture while the horses are out there because I have a habit of barking at them for which I get in trouble for. Mom says I have way too much herding instinct. Then Mom & Dad play ball with me while the other 2 dogs wrestle. They're so silly.
The barn cat, Albert, likes to sit on Mom's lap when she sits down for a cup of coffee in the barn. I really don't like that cat on Mom's lap, but I can't let it show or I will get in trouble. When the cat's on Mom's lap, I also sit as close to her as I can so she will pet me & not the cat. I like to 'herd' the cat around when he is not on her lap, but I don't ever hurt him. None of us are allowed to chase him either! We ALL know that is a "no-no" & sure to get us a "time-out"!
It's raining again today so I bet there will be no walk.......b-o-r-i-n-g!
Well, better go...........it's now count-down until Santa comes with those new balls & treats!

Hi Everyone! Wow! It has been almost a year since my Mom has made an entry to my diary. Where has the time gone? Well, it was a busy year for my Mom at work so she totally forgot about my dogster diary. The weather in Indiana this past year has not been too great for trail riding & camping. During the Spring it rained a lot of weekends keeping us from going, the summer was very hot. The fall was nice & we did go trail riding/camping a lot this fall. The time that stands out most for me was Halloween weekend. Mom & Dad decorated our campsite for Halloween. Whew! It was scary & many of the props made noises & moved. I did NOT like the creepy 'reaper' that kept rising up from the grave making a scary noise. In fact, my cable allowed me to sit on him to keep him from coming up! But Mom caught me & moved me too far to reach him. I loved the kids who came trick or treating though. The kids would pet me & some dropped candy which I would grab. (sorry Mom couldn't help myself) I almost forgot about getting attacked in the campground this fall by a Jack Russell. Me & Mom had gone for a walk & I was just walking along side Mom minding my own business. From out of no where a Jack Russell dog jumped on my back & started biting me. Mom was screaming & kicking at the dog, but instead she was actually kicking me. :-( Finally, the owners came & got the mean little dog. But instead of tying him up they just sat him under their awning & sat back down to eat. Well, here he came at us again. Only this time, I was ready for him. I had to protect my Mom! I lounged at him not realizing my lead had wrapped around my Mom's finger. Hmmm.........bad thing for Mom's finger as I took her finger with me as I tried to keep the Jack Russell from getting us. Again, the people came & got the mean little dog. Long story short, my Mom is still going to therapy trying to get the use of her finger back. I guess all the tendons were pulled from her finger. I feel really bad, but Mom said it was her fault for having the lead wrapped around her finger. Mom can't understand why little dogs aren't kept on leads as ALL dogs should be in the campground. Especially dogs that have not been socialized & are dog aggressive & mean! I always like to see my Aussie friend in the campground named Izzy. She's a beautiful red Aussie & really sweet. I also like to see Buckshot & Tucker. They are nice & always friendly. I just don't know why those little guys have to be so hateful & always want to fight!
Now it's Christmas time & Mom took a bunch of pictures of us dogs in the barn. I think she is posting them here today. I am hoping for some new tennis balls & yummy treats to be in my stocking! :-)
Better go for now, me & Mom have a lot of diaries to read to catch up on what my dog pals has been during.
Merry Christmas...........Shelby

Finally, yesterday I went to the woods with Mom & Dad. I was the only dog that got to go. Mom & Dad weren't going to take any of us dogs as they thought it might be muddy since all our snow has melted. But when I noticed Mom & Dad loading tools in the back of the Ranger, I knew they were going somewhere so I jumped on the front seat & refused to get off. Mom even offered me my favorite treat, bacon strips. Nope, I would rather ride on the Ranger than get down & grab that treat. Mom finally 'caved' & told Dad to let me go. Mom didn't want me to go because I had just been to the groomers the day before & she was afraid I would get all dirty. It turned out that it wasn't muddy & I didn't get dirty at all. I would snoop around, but never get very far from Mom. It was cold & very windy but when I got tired, I took a nap on the front seat of the ranger on Dad's coat, out of the wind. Every now & then Mom would call my name & I would set up so she could see I was fine just napping in the Ranger. We did have some excitement as we were heading for the woods. I started acting terrible, whining & lunging over Mom. Dad got mad & told me to "sit" real mean. But finally they saw what I was upset about. There was a coyote caught in a down woven wire fence. It was struggling like crazy to get free. Upon closer examination, Dad discovered the coyote had been caught in a trap that had been wired to a steel post. Dad said the coyote had pulled the post out of the ground & drug it across the field in an attempt to get free. But when the coyote got to the old woven wire fence the steel post got stuck & no way the coyote could get it free. Poor thing. I felt bad but was very excited as I had never seen a coyote up close.....but I was NOT afraid & barked my head off. There was no way Mom & Dad could free the coyote from the trap as she would bite them. Mom took me away & Dad went & got the neighbor man who brought his gun. Mom told me they had to shoot the coyote to put it out of his misery. But why??? I couldn't understand why Dad couldn't just get the trap off. I was feeling very bad. I heard Dad tell Mom it was a female, had an excellent coat & appeared to be in very good health. Ohhh that poor thing.
Well, I am tired from my day in the woods.

Hi All! Boy! I can't say I am enjoying this winter. It has been too cold too early! Brrrrr.......sure glad I am in full coat now because it is cold. I love playing in the snow but it has been so cold Mom & Dad don't stay out with us to play in the snow long enough. Mom has been off work this past week as she always is between Christmas & New Year's. BUT, she has been busy as her & Dad are still doing stuff to the house. Dad has been painting on the weekends & Mom has been cleaning house & closets. Geeze! By the end of the day, they are too tired to play. Mom has played ball with me a couple of nights. One night we had an obedience practice. Mom says I am the teacher's pet, (of course) but the other two dogs watch me & it is helping them do better. Dad usually takes us dogs for a lap around the field on the Ranger on the weekends. Wren, the Weim. didn't get to go last time because it was too cold for her. I sit in the front sit with Dad & the windshield keeps the wind off me. Louie, the hound dog, was riding in the back but he did get cold as the snow was blowing up on him but he still wanted to go & never wants to get out when the ride is over.
Mom said it is suppose to be 55 degrees by Fri so she made me an appointment at the groomer. She was going to take some pictures of us dogs, but said I was looking scufty. :-( Mom said I need my leg feathers trimmed & some of my 'butt fluff' trimmed up. Good because it was making my butt look big. Dad teases me all the time about having a big butt! He is just used to the Weimaraner, who by the way, has put on a few pounds herself this winter! But my Weim sister has those long skinny legs. I can actually walk right under her, which I do a lot. LOL! Mom taught me to weave in & out of her legs while she walks so I do it to the other dogs. Hee, hee!
Not much news here. Mom is going to post some new pictures of all of us this weekend.

Hi Everyone! It has been forever since Mom has updated my diary. Let's see..........what have I been up to since Mom's last post back in July. I can tell you that we had a very busy fall riding season. We went camping/riding for 9 weekends in a row this past fall. I got to see all my old trail dog buddies, Izzie, Buckshot & Tucker & I met a few new buddies that I can't remember their names. It was a beautiful fall season. The last trip out was my least favorite. It was Halloween, Mom & Dad worked in the haunted barn at a campground we don't go to very often anymore. I didn't like it there at all. There were spooky things making noise & flapping in the wind. I barked at a lot of the scary stuff. Me & my Weim sister were in the back of the trailer in our crates, but we could hear the strange noises & screams from the haunted barn. It scared both of us & we couldn't get to sleep until Mom & Dad got back to our campsite. And that was nearly midnight. One day while we were at this campground, the owner lady hit my Weim sister, Wren, on the top of the head several times because Wren was jumping up & down on her lead. I was shocked that a stranger would hit my dog-sister on the head like that! She didn't hit me, but I was not anxious to see her as I am funny about some strangers. Dad said she was a mean lady & was not a good dog person. Dad said we didn't have to go back there ever again. Mom took a new job in Aug this year & it kept her really busy & even working some at home at night. Guess that is partially why she hasn't kept my diary up-to-date. Also, Mom & Dad are having stuff done inside the house so they have been busy with that. Me.......I have just been hanging out in the barn a lot. No dog classes for us this year.......which doesn't bother me. I have gotten to go shopping at Rural King with Mom a few times. I LOVE that place. I always find popcorn on the floor. I am usually able to grab a few pieces before Mom scolds me. Mom always let's me pick out one toy to bring home too. :-)
It is really cold here now. My hair is all grown out so it doesn't really bother me. We also have had some snow, not a lot but enough I can bust through the snow drifts. I love playing in the snow. When Mom plays I like it when she falls down & I can jump on top of her covering her with snow! Well that's all for now. Hopefully Mom will stay a bit more current with my diary.

Geeze! Enough of this! Not much news when it stays this hot & humid for this long. Nobody wants to do anything, including me! I did ride around with Dad this past weekend on the Ranger. Dad & Mom have been calling me the "ranger girl" because I like to ride on it so much. I just can't help it. I really like it now that Dad has taken the windshield out for the summer. I love the wind blowing in my face. Mom & Dad worked in the yard this past weekend, trimming trees & bushes so that means Dad will be making trips to the back field to dump the clippings--and me too! :-) I heard Mom telling Dad that some friends' horse was struck & killed by lightning over the weekend. Yikes! No wonder Louie & Wren get so scared when they hear thunder. I don't like it, but I don't get as scared & shake like they do.

Hi Everyone! I don't know about you all, but I am tired of all this heat & humidity! Mom says I am going to have to have one more hair cut this summer because she is afraid I will get too hot with my coat growing back in before the fall weather comes. It's really ok with me because I do feel better with it short in the summer & I am used to how I look now. Our neighbor lady got a new puppy--blue heeler. Mom & Dad went to see it but didn't take me. :-( Mom said I could meet the puppy later. I guess the neighbor's older dog isn't too happy about the new puppy, but Mom said it will teach the puppy social manners. I wouldn't be mean to the puppy if I could go see her, but Mom said I might scare her. :-(
Sounds like another hot weekend so guess we will be staying home again. Mom has been getting home later every day this week so I have been hanging out with Dad when he gets home from work. Mom was upset last night because when she got home & came into the barn, I didn't greet her. The other two dogs were there but no Shelby. Mom started looking & found me & Dad working in the little building behind the barn. I was helping Dad rearrange things & tidy-up. :-) Dad said I was a good little helper & stayed right with him while the other two dogs laid in front of the fan. But when I saw Mom was home, I was glued to her......sorry Dad. Mom went over a few of my 'doggie tricks' with me & threw the ball for me for awhile.
Well not much news other than more hot weather.

We still haven't been camping with the horses as it is so hot. Mom said friends have told her that the bugs are really bad as well. So that means another weekend of hanging out at home. I really don't mind staying home but I am looking forward to a camping trip with the horses. Dad is putting gravel all around the back of the barn & around the run-in sheds for the horses. A huge big truck brought the gravel in Sat. morning. I had never seen a truck so big & barked at it. It sure made a lot of noise when the gravel came out of the truck. It scared my Weim sister & she ran in Dad's workshop room in the barn & hid. Not me, I wanted to see what was happening. After the truck left, Dad & Mom started shoveling & raking gravel. Me & Wren ran & ran in the pasture until we were exhausted. Then, I just laid by Mom & watched her rake gravel. It was so hot on the white gravel that Mom made me go inside the barn in front of the big fan. I would come to the back of the barn & whine from time to time because I wanted to be with her even if it was hot out there. :-( Sun. was another hot & steamy day, Mom & Dad worked in the yard & finished up the gravel project. Us dogs, played chase until it got too hot & then we just crashed in front of the fans.
Hope everyone is staying cool in this heat.

Whew! Sure glad it cooled down. This cooler, more pleasant weather warrants more doggie play time. I have had fun all week playing chase in the pasture with my dog family, Wren-the Weim, & Louie-the hound. I help Mom every evening when she gets home from work water the flowers. Mom planted bright yellow flowers around my kennel & they are beautiful. Mom has been taking me to the front yard to help water a flower bed, which used to be 'off-limits' to us dogs. None of us were ever allowed in the front yard. Because one day last summer, I ran across the street to investigate some cows in the field. OMG! Mom, who had been watering the front flower bed & Dad, who was washing the lawn mower, both saw me at the same time. Did I ever get into trouble! They were both yelling & scolding me at the same time. I was so upset, I peed on the drive way. But now that I am a year older, Mom has been taking me to the front, telling me 'down & stay' under a big tree while she waters. I have to admit that I do 'eye' those cows, but I know better than to leave my post. Plus, I know I will get a yummy treat if I sit tight. Hmmm........ Last night while laying at my post under the tree, our neighbor man pulled in the drive to the barn. I heard the other dogs barking & I so wanted to go see him. I jumped up & started towards his truck as it pulled in, but Mom yelled telling me "no, get back". So I went back to my post & waited for her to finish watering. Mom was very proud of me & praised me for staying put, but I have to admit it was very hard not to go see my neighbor him. He is so nice & tells me what a good girl I am all the time. :-) Dad was worried that Mom has me so close to the road & the cows, but Mom is 'testing' me to see if I will obey under all circumstances. Mom says I have more "herd instinct" than any of her Aussies before me. I am not exactly sure what that means, but I know I sure like to move things around. Dad calls it being bossy when I am trying to seperate Wren & Louie when they are wresting, or when I push the cats around with my nose, or bark at the horses for rolling too close to the fence.
I have also got 2 'hose jobs' this past week for rolling on a mouse & a mole that our cat killed & brought to the yard for show & tell. Dad was on his way each time to pick them up, but I beat him to them & rolled on them. Hmmmm.....now I smell like a real 'hunting dog'. But both times Mom told me I was stinky & sprayed me off. :-( What is up with that???
Mom said we can't go camping with the horses this weekend because they set off fireworks in our neighborhood & the Arabians would be left at home in the pasture. She said the fireworks scares them so we need to be home to put all the horses in the barn while the fireworks are going on. Wren & Louie are also afraid of fireworks, but I am not. I don't understand them, & am a bit amazed by them.
Everyone have a great 4th!

Hi Everyone! It sure has been hot & humid here. Mom & Dad don't usually go trail riding/camping when it is so hot & humid. Plus, we have had storm, after storm for the past couple weeks. My Weim sister is terrified of storms. She will begin to shake & tremble when a storm is 100 miles away. She won't eat if a storm is coming. Now me, I don't like storms, but I sure won't skip eating my supper because of a storm. :-) Since we haven't been camping much, we have just been hanging around home, doing lots of yard work. Dad is changing some of the fencing so that's a project he is working on. Of course, I am right there for all of it doing my best to help out when I can. :-)
This past Sun. afternoon me & my Weim sister rode on the Ranger with Mom & Dad to the neighbors. Dad needed a tool or something. When we got there, our neighbors-who have horses too, were just starting to unload a wagon of hay. Dad hopped on the wagon to help the man & Mom took me up the loft stairs to help her friend. The guys would throw bales of hay up to Mom & her friend. It was sure hot so I just laid on a bale of hay in the loft & watched. My Weim sister was jumping up on the hay wagon & then from the wagon to the loft. Dad got a bit annoyed & finally tied her up. She is so hyper at times. (rolling eyes in head) After we got that done, we hung out at their house for a bit. Mom's friend has a dog-a blue heeler, but she is older & right now she is hurt & can't come outside. Mom said she tore a tendon in her back leg & due to her age, they are not going to try to fix it. I feel bad for Meggie as she is a very good dog. She doesn't ever play w/us because she is older.
I did get another hair cut, but I must say, I look better than the last time I got a hair cut & it is much cooler. My ears are all better now & Mom hasn't put any of the medicine in them for over a week now. Hooray!
Well, not much news this time.

We had another weekend at home this past weekend, which is a change of pace as we had been going camping with the horses EVERY weekend since first of April. But Mom said with all the rain the trails were just too muddy & the weather was hot & humid. Mom said a horse died at the camp over Memorial Day weekend probably due to being overridden on those hills & it being so hot & humid & the horse being unconditioned. Mom said that is so sad that people don't have better sense but I guess it happens especially on Holiday weekends. Mom said it is crazy there on the Holidays. I like to go camping but I am always glad when we get home. Me & my Weim sister are always so exhausted after camping we sleep all the next day. The vet came out on Sat. for Dad's new horse, but that didn't take long. He gave her shots & worked on her teeth. Eck.....the big power tool he put in her mouth sure looks scary to me! Mom & Dad worked in the yard most of the time. A man in a big truck brought some gravel that Mom & Dad had put around the barn. Mom & Dad did leave & go someplace but Mom brought back some yummy treats for us. They were chicken wrapped in sweet potatoes. I helped Mom with her flowers & she gave me a couple of those treats afterwards for being such a good little helper. :-) Hmmmm...........good.
Mom is still putting medicine in my ears every other day. I DON'T like it one bit! She cleans them first with alcohol on a cotton ball which I don't mind too much. But I don't like those drops she puts in them. Dad has to hold me still & that makes me mad. When they are finished I go pout, but Dad tries to bring me out of it by tickling me. At first my Weim sister (Wren) was laughing at me, until Mom said, "ok, Wren, let's do your ears as well". It wasn't so funny then.
Well, not a very exciting weekend. Mom said the next weekend we stay home, we may go to a hiking park. Hooray, I would LOVE that! Hope you all had a great weekend!

Hi All! Hope everyone had a good Memorial Day weekend. The weather here was good--hot though. Mom & Dad usually don't take the horses to the horsecamp on the Holidays. They say it is just too crazy in camp on the holidays. So, we all just worked around home. I don't mind though because I get to hang out with Mom & Dad. The farmer next door did bale our hay. Mom took me to the hay field while the tractor & baling was going on. She wanted me to be around the equipment & all the noise, plus meet the guys on the hay crew. Mom is concerned that I am becoming a bit timid around strange men for some reason. I LOVE my Dad & I like all the ladies I meet but some men kinda worry me. The hay guys were all nice & played with me & I did some tricks for them. **grins** I helped Mom take water to the guys.....I like having such an important job. :-)
I did have some excitement in the barn. Mom heard me barking & barking.....her & Dad came running to see why I was so frantic. A little raccoon had come into the barn & I had it cornered behind the trash can. It was growling & hissing at me but I was NOT going to let it get away. Mom pulled me away & Dad got the raccoon out of the barn. We thought it ran away........but the next morning it was hiding under a mum bush by the barn door. OMG! This time Louie, the hound, had it cornered. Mom was afraid the coon was sick because it didn't run away from the day before. She told Dad to 'take care of it' while she took me away. Mom didn't want to see or actually know what Dad did---just didn't want to see the raccoon again. So I don't know what happened to it. I am glad it was gone though because I was afraid, Louie-the hound, might get hurt. :-)
Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend.

Hi All! We're going camping again this weekend. I can always tell by the trips Mom makes from the house to the camper in the barn. Plus she always clips her horse up & gives him a bath. Mom is so easy to read. I wasn't a very good girl last night. I found some stinky stuff & rolled in it. It was fun at the time, but Mom was NOT happy when I came running into the barn. She called me "stinky girl" & took me straight into the wash bay for a hot bath. Yea, she gives me a bath in the horse wash bay in the summer. I really don't mind it, I would rather she do it than have to go to the groomers & spend several hrs there. I guess this hasn't been one of my better weeks, as I have also been sick with my ears. Mom has been putting ear drops in them, which I don't like at all. After she does it, I run & hide because I am mad. Mom hunts me up & tells me to "quit pouting" & makes me join them. When I am mad, I refuse to play ball or do my tricks even for a treat. As much as I hate to admit it, the medicine is working because I do feel better & am not digging at my ears or shaking my head. :-) Mom says I still have to go to the vet next week though & have my ears checked out. :-(

Hi All! We all went camping/trail riding again this past weekend. Well, I didn't trail ride but Mom & Dad did. Dad really likes the new horse & I hear both Mom & Dad talking how good she is doing. (rolling eyes in head) She sure doesn't pay any attention to me, when I bark at her! We went to the campground on Fri afternoon, but came home early Sun. as it was cloudy & looked like rain. Sun. afternoon, I got to go to Rural King with Mom & Dad. I LOVE to go there. It's a farm store & sometimes there are other doggies in there & always kids that pet me. This trip everyone kept saying, "awe, look at the cute puppy". Hey! I am NOT a puppy. I am a big girl, will be 3 yrs old this fall! Mom said people think I am a puppy because of my hair cut. Grrrrrrrr............let's not talk about that! I met a nice lady in a wheel chair. She asked my Mom if she could pet me. Of course, Mom said yes. She was a nice lady, so I gave her a big wet kiss in the face. But the lady just laughed about it. After that we stopped at the Country Store. That is a cool place with horse & doggie stuff & all kinds of cool gifts & clothes. There were even bunnies in the back, but I didn't pay any attention to them as I was busy looking at doggie toys. **grins** By the time we got back home, brought the horses in & fed them, I was ready to crash! That camping can sure wear a girl out!
Hope you all had a great weekend!

Hi All! Well it has been quite awhile since my Mom has updated my diary with what we have been doing. For starters, we sure have been camping a lot. I think we have been camping/trail riding the last 4 weekends. We usually go for 3 days-Fri, Sat. & Sun. It's been a great Spring, warmer than normal & dryer than usual. Mom said the riding trails in all the state parks & forests have been in great shape. Oh yea, I got a hair cut. I mean I REALLY got a hair cut! I usually don't get it this short until middle of summer when it is very hot. Mom was a bit surprised as she told the groomer to trim me up but not take me all the way down. If Mom was surprised, she should be me! Ecccck! When Mom took me home & I walked in the barn, my Weim sister didn't know me & growled at me. I was so embarrassed that I ran to my room & hid. Mom & Dad had to coax me out. We were leaving to go camping/trail riding the next day & I had to go looking like this--no hair & my head looking like I had a helmut on! I was very quiet on the ride to the camp ground. Mom & Dad were meeting friends at the campground as Dad & his friend were going to trade horses. Dad's Rocky Mtn horse is very laid back with lots of trail miles & his friend thought he would make him a good horse. Dad's friend's horse was a pretty Rocky Mtn mare but she didn't have the experience. Since Mom & Dad have rode Arabian horses for yrs. that didn't bother Dad. I guess all went well on the trail rides over the weekend because we brought their horse home & they took our 'Country' horse home with them. Of course, since I have to sit in a grate while they are all out riding, I don't know how things really went. :-( Plus, I didn't feel good all weekend. I didn't eat very well & got sick a few times. Mom was worried because I am a very GOOD eater. Mom thought the drastic hair cut had kinda put me in shock. I slept all the way home. But when Mom & Dad got home from work on Monday, I was back to my ole bouncy self, carrying my ball around in hopes that someone would throw it for me! :-)
All is going well with Dad's new horse. Mom said she is very pretty & such a good girl. But if you ask me, she looks just like any other horse! AND pays no attention to me at all, when I bark at her to move. :-( We are going camping/trail riding again this weekend. Mom & Dad are trying to get the horses fit. Of course, me & my Weim sister get to go, but since we have to wait back at camp while they ride guess I will catch up on some zzzzzzzz.
Everyone have a good weekend.

Hey! We are going to the horse camp this coming weekend. Me & my Weim sister are getting excited. The weather sounds like it is going to be great. The horses have new shoes on & ready to go. I love everything about camping but having to sit in that crate while Mom & Dad are out riding. It's not too bad since Mom always gives us a yummy bone to chew on while they are gone, but I am not as used to being in a crate as my Weim sister is.
Mom had a little Easter egg hunt in the barn this past Fri evening. One of Mom's friends from work brought her little 5 yr oldgranddaugher out to see the horses. Mom decided to stuff & hide some eggs for the little girl around the barn. It was a challenge for Mom to hide them where us dogs couldn't get to them. I watched her hide them & could smell the choc. candy in them. But Mom put them in places that were too high for me. When the little girl came, I stayed right with her during the hunt in hopes I might get a piece or two of candy. But it didn't happen. :-( Oh, well, the little girl was really sweet & she played ball with me. I got to hang out with the little girl but Dad had to put my Weim sister up because she kept jumping on the little girl. The Weim just gets so excited. The little girl sat on all the horses & I would slip in the stalls every chance I got just to be a part of the action & get some attention.
On Sat. Mom cleaned the camper & repacked it. I followed her on every trip back & forth from the house to the trailer in the barn & I know we made 100 trips! Whew! I was sure tired at the end of the day. I made every trip with her in case they decided to go camping early--I wanted to be right there & not be left at home.

Hi Everybody! Can you believe we all made it through that nasty winter of cold & so much snow? Bring on Spring--sunshine & sweet smelling flowers! We have spent the last few weekends back in the woods, cutting trees, burning brush & stacking firewood for our campfires. Mom & Dad think it is great exercise, but me & my Weim sister love to play in the surrounding fields while our Mom & Dad work. When we finally poop-out, we both retreat back to the Ranger & nap until they are finished & then we all head for the house. I believe my last entry Mom was teaching me to back up on command. Well I mastered that so she is working on a new trick she saw on TV on Dog Town. (rolling eyes in head) She started last night. I think this one will be easy for me. Mom practices my tricks most every night but I don't mind because I get those yummy treats for doing them. She has incorporated my Weim sister, Wren, in our practice too. My Weim sister struggles with the sit & stay or anything that involves stay. Mom says her attention span is a bit short. Mom said something about 'the attention span of a knat". Hee, hee! But Wren is doing much better. Dad gets frustrated with her & tells Mom to work with her. I wish he wouldn't do that because I prefer to have all Mom's attention for myself. :-( Soon we will all be going camping & taking the horses. Mom & Dad have started the shedding process on the horses, trying to rid them of their long winter hair. While they are busy brushing the horses. we dogs run wild in the barn playing tag. We have a blast until Mom or Dad yell for us to "settle down". :-( I am very sensitive & it hurts my feelings to get yelled at so I then sit outside my Mom's horse's stall & wait for her to finish with the horse & pay attention to me.

Hi All! I usually don't mind winter as I love to play in the snow but this cold is NOT fun. Mom & Dad took all of us out to play in the snow after they brought the horses in last night. I was plowing around in the snow & all they could see was my wake. When they called us into the barn, I had ice all over me. Mom made me stand in front of the salamander heater until I melted. :-( Mom practiced with me on my new back-up trick. I can go backwards really fast now when she tells me so I thought I had it mastered. BUT.......now she wants me to back up next to her at the same time she does. Hmmm..............now I am confused all over again. Mom tells me not to worry that it will make sense in time so I keep trying--mostly for the treats she gives me while we are practicing. :-) After our practice Mom plays ball with me. I could play ball for hours so Mom usually has to say, "that's all for tonight". I have had to stay in the last few days because of the cold & I hate doing that. I can't see the horses & it is boring even with all the toys & bones Mom gives me. I like to watch the horses during the day. They may get too close to the fence & I need to bark at them to get back or a wild animal may try to enter the pasture & I need to scare it off. :-)

Hard to believe another year is gone. I will be 3 yrs old this August. The horse vet was out yesterday. Dad's Arabian horse (Elijah) was all swollen up in his "private" area & Mom wanted the vet to check her new horse's (Scooter) teeth. I like the vet ok but I stayed really close to Mom & watched. The other dogs had to stay in Dad's workshop room in the barn while the vet was there because my Weim sister gets excited & jumps on strangers. It was not serious about Dad's horse but just due to the very cold weather. The vet did some drilling on Mom's Rocky Mtn horse's teeth. It sounded awful & the 'thing' on his head looked scary. He also did some flossing as Scooter had a space between two teeth that had impacted food. All the tools the vet used kinda worried me. Mom reminded me how important it was that I be good while she brushes my teeth. I really don't mind it too much because the tooth paste tastes like chicken. I like it better when she uses the finger brush instead of the longer one. I usually try to bite down on the long on. The vet was there for a long, long time it seemed to me. But I guess he gave all the shots, cleaned the geldings, & checked everyone's teeth. He was nice but I like my vet better--I think she is pretty & gives me peanut butter doggie cookies!
It is really, really cold today so I have to stay indoors. I am b-o-r-e-d! Mom is going to add some new pictures for me & my Weim sister on this site.

Hi All! Wow! Winter is here & we have a couple of inches of snow to prove it. I love the snow! My Grandma was here from Florida last week so Mom didn't get to play with me much because Grandma is NOT a dog lady. :-( But things are pretty much back to normal now. We aren't taking agility lessons this winter, but sometimes Mom & Dad set a small course up in the barn for us. Mom has been working on a new trick for me--backing up when she tells me. We have been working a little each evening in the barn. She got this idea when she places me down the aisle of the barn, tells me to stay & then throws the ball to me from the other end of the aisle. I am pretty good at catching 'air balls'. I use my front feet. But Mom wants me to back up farther away when she tells me. I wasn't understanding so Mom decided she needed to teach me what the word 'back' means. She said I am doing pretty good but sometimes my backing is a bit crooked. But Mom is very patient & always tells me I am doing good even though I know my backing is crooked. During Thanksgiving break from work, Mom & Dad washed all the barn walls & stall walls & re-stained them. They do that every 2 yrs & the last time they did it, I was just a baby & drove Mom crazy trying to keep me out of the stain. Mom & Dad have also spent a few weekends in the woods cutting wood for our camping trips next yr. But the last time we all went to the woods, I was playing with my Weim sister & got a million stick-tights in my coat. I got some really nasty briars stuck in my hair too so I went running back to Mom to help me get them out because they were hurting. Mom was NOT happy. When we got back to the barn it took Mom 40 mins. to get me all brushed out. My Weim sister had her hoodie on because she has such short hair & gets cold but she never gets all stuck up with briars like me. :-(
Well, that's about all folks. Hope everyone got lots of goodies from Santa. We all got some yummy treats in our socks, my Weim sister got a new hoodie, Louie got a HUGE bone & I got 2 new tennis balls! :-)

Hi All! Wow! Couldn't believe it had been Aug. since Mom updated my diary. We have been busy camping a lot lately. Of course, fall is the best time to camp & ride horses. We stayed at the horse camp a whole week earlier this month. It was a lot of fun, except for the times that Mom & Dad were out riding & me & my Weim sister had to be in our crates. Mom won't let either of us go out on the trails. Mom said if we should spook someone's horse & the rider fall off she is responsible for the damages. (I would never do that.) Even Dad said he thought I would be fine & stay right with the horses but Mom said 'no' that a strange horse might kick me. :-( So I have to be in the crate while they are out riding. But Mom has been sitting our crates outside under the awning so we can watch the horses/riders go by. Mom & Dad set some of our agility equipment up in the back yard & have played with us every evening. We had not practiced since our classes ended last Spring. Mom & Dad were very pleased that we had retained it all & did even better than in class. Mom thinks it is because we are both maturing. I am 2 yrs old now & all grown up.....just ask me! (big grin) One day while we were practicing agility in the back yard, a little lost beagle came into our yard. She was scared & hungry. We weren't allowed to play with her though because Mom thought we would scare her even more. She was wearing a collar but no name or tags. Mom & Dad took her to vet, but no chip either. They took her up & down our road in the Ranger to see if anyone knew where she belonged but no one knew her. Oh, dear what to do now. But Mom said, "I know who needs a dog... Joe, our neighbor". He lives alone & is retired. He owns all the land around us. So Mom & Dad took her over there.........and she is still there. :-)
Well that's about all I have been up to the last couple of months. Happy Halloween to everyone.........and don't let those spooks scare you!

I had to go to the vet last night for a shot. When the weather gets hot & humid & there are lots of molds in the air, I get itchy skin. I started scratching myself even though I had taken my monthly Comfortis flea pill & Mom puts Frontline on me as well. I got a bath with medicated shampoo, no fleas were found but I continued to itch. The same thing happened to me last yr & I had to get a shot. I really don't mind going to the vet. The girls behind the counter come out & talk to me & give me peanut butter cookies. A lady came in with 3 little dogs; a Bichon, a Schnauzer & a Yorkie. The lady asked Mom if it was ok for them to meet me & Mom said, "sure". We all became friends instantly & Mom let me lay by them while we waited for the vet. A huge big black & tan coon hound came in & when she barked she sounded just like our Louie hound at home. The lady took her 3 little dogs over to meet her but the owner said, "no" because the hound was growling & barking at them. I stayed by my Mom & just watched. Those little dogs were sure glad to come back & sit by me. :-)
It has been really hot & a storm was coming when we got home from the vet. I was in the yard w/Mom when we heard a huge clap of thunder & lightning cracked really loud. The horses in the pasture jumped & started running around. I ran start to my Mom & got under her legs. Wow! That was scary. We better get to the barn fast!
My Weim sister was w/Dad in the barn & shaking terribly from the noise. She is terrified of any kind of storm, even just rain.
The weather is suppose to cool off this weekend so we are going camping with the horses. I can always tell because Mom makes about 100 trips from the house to the camper with me right on her heels. (Don't want her to forget to take me) I like to go camping (except for having to sleep in a crate at night) because I help Mom with the horses, there's always good stuff to eat, go for walks thru the horse camp & look at all the horses & meet other dogs. Mom said we are going to stay 4 days. Cool!

It's sure been hot here for the past couple of weeks. Even with my summer 'do', I don't like hot, humid weather. As a rule, I don't care much for the water but Mom bought me & my Weim sister a little pool to cool off in. As far as I am concerned, she could have saved her money. Dad wasn't too impressed w/it either & said it would have to go in the rock garden so as not to kill the grass in the yard. My Weim sister LOVED it. But she has those webbed feet & like the 'duck-head' she is, was jumping in & out of it before Mom could even get it filled! As for me, I watched cautiously but was NOT eager to take my turn in the little pool. Mom coaxed me in but I wasn't too happy about it. I did a few 'little tricks' while in the pool only because I thought I could get out sooner if I did! :-( Even Louie, the hound dog, liked the pool & would get in to cool off. Hmmm..................Of course, those two could care less about how they look---great big dogs in little plastic pool. Not me, I have an image to think about! I sat on the deck most of the time & just watched the other 2 dogs make fools of themselves in the little plastic pool. Lucky for me, Mom didn't make me get in it again, saying it must not be my "thing". Thank goodness! I did get to go shopping at Rural King (farm store) on Sat. I love that place. I sleep all the way there, but as soon as we pull in the parking lot I am awake & eager to go in. I like to browse the doggie aisle for a new toy or yummy bone. :-) I like to meet all the people who talk to me & the lady at the check-out always gives me a doggie treat. :-)

Hi All! The heat is finally on & I'm sure glad to have my summer hair cut. No lessons of any kind this summer so I have just been hanging out in the yard & watching the horses. Once in awhile I find it necessary to 'herd' the 2 old barn cats around (if they are in the mood & don't smack my nose). Anxious for the fall so we can go camping/riding with the horses.
Enjoyed reading everyone's diaries to see what they have been up to this summer.

on my diary entry. She didn't realize it had been so long since she updated my diary. Geeze, Mom, you are going to forget some of the stuff we've done. My Mom got a new Rocky Mountain horse last month. Mom really likes her new horse & I like him too. He is very sweet & loves people & doggies too! I go in his stall all the time & snoop around but he doesn't seem to mind me at all. I bark at him when I am in the kennel & he comes up close to the fence, but he doesn't seem too threatened by me. Hmmmm..............I think I need to put more grrrrr in my bark! We have been camping several times in the past month. The last time we camped it was very hot so when Mom & Dad got back in from a ride, they took me & my Weim sister swimming in the creek. Dad found a really deep place in the creek by our campsite that was well over our heads. Dad had shorts on & waded out in the deep & Mom lead me out to him. (I had never been in deep water before.) Dad put his hands under me & I swam all around. It was fun but when he let me go I swam right back to Mom. My Weim sister jumped in from the bank & made a huge splash. We ALL got wet but Mom & Dad just laughed. They let us play for about an hr. It sure cooled us off. I have my summer hair cut so it didn't take me long to dry. Back in camp Mom had set some flakes of hay out to put in the horse's hay bags, but I made a nice bed out of it so she made Dad get another bale of hay to feed the horses. :-) I love it when a plan comes together. Well, this was not a very good 4th of July weekend as it rained the entire day Sat. & today was very cloudy & drizzled all morning. Mom & Dad went to Rural King to get horse supplies & I got to go with them since they let dogs in there. I LOVE to go to Rural King. It's a big farm store & they have lots of cool stuff. Mom always takes me to the dog section & I get to pick out a toy that I think I can't live without. I picked out a beautiful ball I found on the shelf, but Mom said, "no more balls you have dozens".
:-( So I found something else I liked. The ladies at the checkout always remember me & talk to me. Mom played with me all afternoon in the barn, going over a few of my tricks & doing the weave poles. I get so excited when I see her get the weave poles out, but I don't think I will EVER be as fast as my Weim sister. :-( Oh, well.

Hi Everyone: I am sure everyone in the midwest feels the same about the rain, enough is enough. The farmers need to get into their fields & I am tired of having to stay indoors because it is raining! Mom & Dad didn't go riding/camping this weekend because the trails would have been too muddy. That's ok with me since they stayed home & worked in the yard. I like that because I can follow Mom around all day. Things were going pretty well for me (**grins**) until Sun evening. Mom was in the front yard putting miracle grow on some of her flowers & I was helping. I spotted some cows across the street & was fascinated. Well, when one of the calves jumped up & took off running, I could not contain myself any longer & took off to investigate. I totally forgot that I was forbidden to cross the street. But was I ever made aware of this fact very quickly. Mom was on me in a second yelling & scolding me. It just so happened that Dad, who was washing the lawn mower at the time, also saw me cross the street. OMG! Dad came yelling & scolding me as well. I ran back as fast as I could but Mom & Dad both continued to yell & scold me. I always get upset when they are mad at me. I got so upset, I began to pee on the driveway. Then I was so embarrassed. I ran to the patio & cried. Mom nor Dad came to get me for the longest time. Finally Mom came & I kept licking her & whining to tell her how sorry I was for crossing the road. She took me with her to the barn, but I could tell Dad was still mad. I tried & tried to make up to him by licking him. Finally...........he was over being mad at me. He told Mom I bet she doesn't do that again! I think he was talking about me. Heck no! No cow is worth the scolding I got!
Hope everyone had a good weekend & NOBODY went across the road without their human!

Hi Everyone! This past weekend we went camping with the horses for the first time this season. I knew something was up Thurs. evening as Mom & Dad were busy packing the trailer/camper. They made a million trips from the house to the barn. Then the horses got a bath, clipped & blanketed. Hmmm.......they sure are getting a lot of attention. I jumped up on a bale of hay in the stall next to Mom's horse's & peeked in to watch Mom brush her horse. I made some weird noises to get Mom to notice me but guess she was too busy to pay attention to me. :-( The weekend weather was perfect. It was in the 80's all weekend. Mom had gotten me a new summer haircut & I was glad. We were on our regular campsite so I went to my usual spot under the tree by the horse corral so I could watch Mom's horse. I love to bark at him (telling on him) when he rubs on the gates or does something he shouldn't. :-) Mom brought me & Wren some new bones to chew on while her & Dad were out riding. On Sat. though I was beginning to get worried because they were gone 5 1/2 hrs out riding. But they were fine when they got back & had a great ride.
Well that's all for now folks.

Hi All! Well, as you all can see from my newest pictures, Dad got his new 'wheels'. Wheeee haaaaaaa! We dogs are lovin' it! Honestly, Mom is kinda likin' it too. It is very handy. We ALL get to ride around together now. I get to sit up front between Mom & Dad. My Weim sister & Louie, the hound dog, ride in the bed. When Dad first brought it home, Mom thought it looked like something Fred Flintstone drove. (I don't know who that is, but Dad started laughing so he must have been a funny man)
My Mom & Dad's friend was in her barn on an extension ladder & fell from the top. She got hurt pretty bad & has been in the hospital about 10 days so far. Mom & Dad are taking care of their horses & her dog, Meggie, a blue heeler. Mom really feels sorry for Meggie because she doesn't understand & really misses her human Mom. Mom said Meggie was with Leeann when she fell & Meggie was not going to let the paramedics work on Leeann when they arrived. Mom said Meggie was only protecting her Mom. But today Meggie got to go to the hospital & see her Mom! EVERYBODY was so happy.
We haven't been camping with the horses yet, but I am hoping that will be soon. Mom said I have to get a hair cut before our first camping trip. She gives me a pill once a month for fleas & ticks & sprays me, but she said my hair is so thick right now, she couldn't find a tick thru all of it. I don't mine a hair cut--doesn't take Mom so long to brush me when it's short. :-)

Hi All! Spring must be here. It was 73 degrees yesterday! What a great day. Our Mom & Dad took me & my Weim sister back to the fields & woods. My Mom was raking up dead weeds & small brush & burning it along a creek in a valley. Me & my Weim sister played in the creek, wading & jumping back & forth from one bank to the other. It was great fun & we were getting really dirty & loving it! Then we went to help Dad burn a big pile of the dead tree limbs. Dad took the tractor & wagon back to the house to get another chain for his saw while Mom & me & my Weim sister stayed to put sticks & limbs on the fire. Then all of a sudden Mom ran & grabbed the rake because the fire was taking off in the dead grass in the field. OMG! The wind picked up & the grass fire was taking off in every direction. There was smoke everywhere! My Mom was right in the middle of the fire & all the smoke with her rake. I got really scared for her & started barking & jumping on her to warn her to get out of there. But Mom wouldn't listen & kept scolding me to get back. She was afraid all my hair would catch on fire as the grass was really starting to burn. My Weim sister stayed far away from the fire & smoke. I would NOT leave my Mom. Please Mom come away from there! I barked & barked at her but she kept raking along the fire's edge. I was really upset. Then our Dad got back & started trying to put out the grass fire. Mom said she was going for help because she was afraid the fire would make it to the bordering woods. Mom took off on the tractor & forgot me. MOM!!! WAIT FOR ME!! I ran as fast & hard as I could after my Mom on the tractor. The next door neighbor saw Mom coming very fast on the tractor with me chasing it & new something must be wrong. He ran to her & she told him about the grass fire heading for the woods. He jumped on his backhoe & headed back there. Mom called the fire dept. Mom was upset so I was upset. By this time my Weim sister joined us & Mom told us both to go to the kennel so we did because we were scared of the fire & smoke & then the firetruck siren. Both me & my Weim sister sat in the kennel with the door wide open & just waited & watched the big scary firetruck. But as the firetruck started down the lane to the back field, Dad called Mom on the cell phone to say they had gotten the grass fire out with the backhoe. So the firetruck left. Mom then came to the kennel to us. She was so upset & frightened that she started to cry so I tried to console her. I was just glad she was ok & licked all the soot off her face. My Weim sister was scared to death & was in one of the dog houses. Mom took us both back to the field where Dad & the neighbor man were. Wow! The whole field was black & the black line had gone really close to the woods. I think everybody was exhausted. I know I was. I had never ran that fast or long trying to keep up with that tractor! Whew! I was glad when bed time rolled around!

Hi Everyone! Well, we finally got to see the ground this week. Actually I LOVE the snow because I love to play in it. After Mom & Dad bring the horses in at night, they let us all go out & play in the horse pastures. We run & run with the snow flying all around us. When Mom finally calls me in, I have snow packed all in my feet & stuck to the hair on my legs. Mom usually turns on the salamander & melts me before she can even brush me. :-) My Mom has been having to work a lot of hrs. at work this past week, but she still found time to practice me & my Weim sister on the weave poles & a few jumps a couple of times. We LOVE doing the weave poles & try to see who can do them the faster. Of course, my Weim sister ALWAYS wins because she is so fast. :-( Mom & Dad took us back to the fields & woods behind our house today to cut trees & burn brush. We had a ball running in the fields. I even caught a little field mouse. I was so proud of it. Mom got to tease my Dad again because this is the 2nd field mouse I have caught while running along side my Weim sister--the hunter. Hee, hee! :-) When we finally got back to the house, we were pooped & had to take a nap. My Dad said we are going to get a Polaris Ranger to take back to the woods. (Mom doesn't think we need one though. :-( ) But Dad said then we can all ride back & forth to the woods with our chain saw & tools. Dad takes the tractor back there now, but Mom walks with us dogs. If Mom drives the tractor I try to get on with her & she said there isn't enough room. She is afraid she will run over me so she walks with me. I sure hope we get a ranger so we can all ride together. :-) Well, that's all for now folks. Spring is coming soon because I saw a Robin in the yard!

Hi Everyone! Last Sun. was our last agility class which was our 2nd session. The instructor is going to quit for awhile. Hopefully she will start up again later. Mom & Dad thought me & my Weim sister were really 'on our game' the last class. They were very proud of us both. Wren stayed on course & I was a 'good girl' & didn't give any dirty looks to the other dogs. The instructor even brought her pitbull over to lay next to me & instead of glaring at her, I rolled over for a belly rub from the instructor. Mom was so proud of me for being nice & going into a submissive mode even with a strange dog laying next to me. All thru class, I had a nice pleasant expression & stayed in a good mood. But Mom has been working me a LOT at home after the instructor showed her how to handle my 'wanting to control all others' mode. :-) I am doing much better, but after all I am a 'herder' so it comes naturally. :-) Plus, Mom has been watching that Cesar Millan guy on TV. (rolling eyes in head) Mom says we are a 'pack' & I can't be 'bossing' my Weim sister & hound-dog brother around. I try to boss the old barn cat around, but he keeps scratching my nose so I mostly ignore him! (bad kitty) Mom & Dad have been playing a new game with us in the barn. Mom sets up jumps & then has me sit & wait. She throws the ball, releases me to go & I jump over the jumps, grab the ball & jump back over the jumps to bring it back to her. Of course, she gives me a yummy treat when I bring it back. Sometimes I am in such a hurry to get back to her that I drop the ball before I get to her. But if I drop it, I don't get a treat. :-( My Weim sister is REALLY good at this game. She doesn't even care if she gets a treat. She just loves to jump & get the ball. She jumps into my Dad's arms. AND she is NOT a little doggie! Wow! Dad must be strong to catch her like that. But me, I am all about the treat at the end. :-)
Well that's it for now.

Hi Everyone! Wow! We have about 12 in. of snow on the ground & I am having a ball playing in it! Dad left me inside the barn today because it was still snowing really hard when he left for work........bummer. I hate not to go out to the kennel to see the horses. But, my Mom worked from home today so on her lunch time she came out to the barn & got me. She shoveled a path to the kennel while I ran & ran & tumbled in the snow. She laughed at me when I tried to jump a snow drift & landed right in the middle. She couldn't even see me for a min. Whewwww! This is fun. Mom shoveled all the snow that had blown onto the covered deck of the kennel so I would have a place to sit & not be in snow. She also shoveled the sidewalk in the kennel along the fence so I could bark at the horses. :-) She let me play out in the yard while she shoveled all the snow away from the back door of the barn because it wouldn't even open so much snow had blowed against it. When she called me in I was huffing & puffing but having a ball. She had to go back to work but she left the back door of the barn open so I could sit & see the horses in the pasture. She knows I need to watch them so nothing bad will happen to them. One time a stray dog was running around the outside of the horse pasture & I scared him off by barking & barking at him. :-) He knew not to mess with me! Mom said he was ok & she thought he lived down the road & called the people to come & get him. Anyway, it could have been a bad thing if that was a mean dog. So I was pretty proud of myself none the less. Hope you all are staying warm & safe but do get a chance to 'play' in the snow!
Bark at you later...........Shelby

Hello & brrrrrrr it's cold! This winter is lasting forever! I really don't mind the snow as I have a good double coat to keep me warm but some of the really cold days I have to stay inside the barn. B-o-r-i-n-g! We went to a Sun. agility class today. My Mom knew there would be some different dogs there & wanted to work some more on my social skills with different dogs. (rolling eyes in head) We worked some on agility but I wasn't on my 'game' today. Mom was frustrated with me because I wasn't doing the weave poles. I wanted to skip them all together. I know how to do them, I do 12 at home just fine but just wasn't in the mood I guess. We worked on interacting with other dogs & I tried to do my best so as not to get in trouble. The instructor did show my Mom how to 'lay me down' though. Hmm.........that could be a bad thing for me. :-( We only have 1 more agility class as the instructor is going to quit for awhile. But Mom & Dad are going to continue with it at home. They have no plans to compete us, but think it is good exercise & gives us a job. I LOVE doing it at home & so does my Weim sister. At home, we can bark as we do it & Mom & Dad cheer for us. We both get so excited when we see them getting the stuff out we start jumping & running all around. Well, I'm worn out from class (trying to be good is tiring) so I think I will turn in with the chew bone Mom gave me.
Night all! Shelby

Hello Everyone! Hope you are all out of the deep freeze as well. Heck, 20 degrees feels almost balmy after -15 below! I got to spend part of the day in the kennel today. Hooray! I love to sit & watch the horses in the pasture & bark at them when they come up to the water trough. This afternoon Mom set up our agility course so me & my Weim sister, Wren, could practice for awhile. Dad got home about then so he practiced Wren. We both did the little course perfect 4 times in a row so Mom said that was good & time for play. I could have done it longer because I love those yummy treats Mom gives me after each run. Hmmmm.............. Wren did a lot better too. She's been goofing off in class a lot lately & Dad has been pretty frustrated with her. We had not been practicing at home at all since Mom had sugergy on Dec 23. Wren doesn't seem to do as well if we don't practice during the week. Mom played with me on some of my other tricks & I got some more of those yummy treats. Heck, I'll roll over as many times as she wants for one of those treats. But play time was over too soon & I had to go to bed. But Mom always gives me a nice chew bone when she puts me to bed.

Hi! Well, my Mom says she is noticing a big change in me as I mature. I am now about 17 months old. Mom says I am 'over being a puppy' & much more serious about life. Also, my 'herding' instincts are becoming more & more prominent. I would much rather play with Mom or do a job she gives me than play with the other dogs. In fact, I don't really like other dogs very well except for my own dog family & I am always trying to 'herd' them around. I especially don't like strange dogs getting too close to my Mom. I guess Mom & my agility instructor are going to work on this "issue" (as they call it) in my next few agility classes. :-(

This winter sure is dragging on. The last few days have been brutal outside with highs around zero. Mom hasn't let me stay in the kennel during the day while they are at work because she said there is a wind chill. I like to be in the kennel because I can watch the horses in the field & bark at them when they come up to the water trough. :-( We went to agility class last Fri night. I got in trouble & had to stay after class. Oh, not because I wasn't doing the agility course correctly........I do that just fine. But.........because of my attitude. While I am sitting & waiting for my turn, I give all the other dogs & the instructor dirty looks. After class, the instructor took me from my Mom. What??? Hey what's up with this? The instructor told me to sit, which I did, then told me to get down. I glared at her because she is not my Mom & I didn't want to. MISTAKE. She pinned me down & I cried out. She let me up & told me to get down again. Hmmm....by this time I am mad! Not going to do it for her. Again, the instructor pinned me down & I cried out again. Where's my Mom??? The instructor let me up & told me to get down again. Well, by this time I decided this lady means business so I flattened out as quick as I could! Geeze! Then she had the other dogs come up & get in my face. Hmmm.......I don't really like that but she told me I better not snip or give any of them a dirty look. Ok, lady, I get it. So I put on a happy face for her. Boy! I was sure glad when she gave me back to my Mom. She told Mom we would work on that in the next few classes to improve my attitude. Yea, it was quite humiliating to be singled out in front of everyone. I thought my Mom would be sympathetic but she told the instructor she thought I didn't like class because I couldn't control things like I was used to doing at home. But Mom, I am the 'boss' of the barn! Mom said I have to learn that I cannot be 'herding' everything all the time & I must learn not to give such dirty looks when I don't get my way. Yea, my Weim sister, Wren, teased me about getting in trouble in class. But she doesn't do the agility course as well as I do. She is a goof-off in class. She loves to play with the other dogs. I am serious about class & I don't want to play with those other dogs. I just want to do my job & be by my Mom. I don't fight with my Weim sister or Louie, the barn hound dog, but I guess I do boss them around. They are always wrestling & I try to break it up & push each of them to opposite sides of the barn. But this week Mom has scolded me & made me stop 'herding' them around. It's ok though because then she will play a game with me. If I even look at them while they are wrestling she tells me "no" & we play some more. I guess it will be ok but I don't think they are doing the right thing by wrestling. Mom is trying hard to convince me to mind my own business. It's going to be hard because I like to 'control things'. :-(

Hi Everyone! I went to the groomers today & I am all shiny & smelling good again. (Mom's idea......not mine) I even had to go to agility class tonight with two little blue bows in my hair. (I hate bows in my hair because I am a cowgirl!) But I left them in for my Mom because she has been sick & I want her to be happy. Mom ran me thru the course about 3 times. I did my best because I was just happy to have Mom back doing stuff with me. Dad said that was enough running for her so he ran me thru the course after that. Mom & Dad didn't think I would do it for Dad, but I did a good job for him as I knew it would make my Mom happy. Dad was really happy with me too. (**big grin**) Dad gave me some yummy treats for doing so well for him. My Weim sister had a hard time staying focused in class tonight. She kept running back to where Mom & I were waiting with the other dogs for our turn. Hmmmm............Dad was getting pretty frustrated with her. She just wants to play ALL the time. When she sees other dogs, she wants to play & I would rather be with my Mom than other dogs. Mom says she isn't as serious about her job as I am but she had a rough start in life having come from a puppy mill & missed out on the good puppy life that I had. Me & my Weim sister get along pretty well but I do get mad when she takes my tennis balls & pulls all the fuzz off of them! I LOVE my balls & she doesn't even play ball--- just likes to tear mine up. Grrrrrrrrr.............but Mom usually will give her something else to play with when she is tearing up my tennis balls.
Well, it's my bedtime.
Bark at you later......................Shelby

Hi Everybody! I have not had a good week. My Mom had to have surgery & was gone for a few days. Dad said she had to have a hyst-er-ec-to-my, but I am not sure what that means. Dad said it was a girl thing & not to worry Mom would be back soon. I didn't understand why she never came to feed me, or play with me or brush me. I have a nice warm room in the barn & Dad would let me help him with the horse chores, but I wanted my Mom! Of course, Dad feeds me & plays some with me, but he doesn't brush me or tuck me in with a yummy bone to chew on every night. During the day, when the weather is good, I stay in a kennel which is half under roof & has a nice insulated dog house. It's about 24' x 30' with a partial wood deck. I can watch the horses (even when it rains & stay dry) in the pasture which I LOVE to do. I bark at them when they come up to the water trough. When Mom got home Dad took me in the house a few times to see her, but I couldn't stay with her because I hadn't been to the groomers & Mom said I sure smelled like the barn. :-( I wanted to stay with my Mom! Finally, on Fri Mom came to the barn. Things were back to normal. She played with me & we practiced a few agility things. We hadn't practiced in over a week since our last class. I was excited & glad to do it because I hadn't gotten any of those yummy treats all week. :-) I was flying thru the weave poles for Mom & she clapped & clapped for me. I was happy too because I knew she was happy. We did a few jumps but Dad said we had to quit because he didn't want Mom to overdue it. :-( Well, I think life will be good again now that Mom is back. She brought me a whole bag of new bones & gives me one every night when she puts me to bed. Yep, life is good once again!

Hi Everybody! Not much happening on our little horse acres this past week. The weather has been terrible, cold, windy, sleet, snow & rain.
Our agility class this week was switched from Fri. night to Sat. 11 am. So that means we had class today. For some reason, I just wasn't into it today. Oh, I went thru the motions, but Mom said I had no 'zip or zest' & I just walked thru the weave poles. We had a pretty good course with several front crosses & a rear cross. Mom said I acted bored about the whole thing. :-( But later at home in the barn, I was back to my ole self while Mom played with me. Mom played tug-of-war (one of my favorite things) & bounced the ball for me. Then we played the game of me sitting & staying while Mom ran towards me, away from me & around me. I love that game........it's so easy I don't have to do a thing but just sit there. I know that if I don't move until she gives me the release word, then I get a yummy trick. Hmmm....such an easy game, I love to play it! Mom said if I continue to act bored or as if I am not enjoying the agility classes then she won't sign me up for a 3rd session. Hmmmm............
Well my Mom has to go work on my Weim sister's (Wren) dogster page so it's bye-bye for now.

Hi! I got very sick after I went to the vet for all my shots. My Mom didn't realize it but soon figured it out when we started to practice our agility stuff. I fell off the teeter totter, knocked over a jump & kept skipping weave poles. I ran to my room embarrassed & stayed there until Mom came & got me. When Mom petted me, I couldn't help but whine. I felt soooo bad. Mom thinks maybe I was having a reaction to the kennel cough vaccination. The vet told us some dogs do have reactions to it. The next day was agility class & Mom wasn't going to take me if I was still acting weird. But I was fine the next day & back to my normal self playing with my Weim sister. But then my Weim sister tore one of her back toe nails out somehow. It bled a lot but she never cried & she never limped. We all went to class that night but my Weim sister's toe started bleeding really bad after she made one run thru the course. Dad pulled her out immediately & sat the class out with her. Class was really fun as we did 14 obstacles in a row. I think my Mom was out of breath trying to keep up with me. Hee, hee. Dad told Mom he thought I did a really good job & was fun to watch. (**big grin**) I try really hard to please Mom but I was getting pretty tired near the end.
Sat. I went to the fields & woods with Mom & Dad to cut brush. My Weim sister didn't get to go because Dad was afraid her toe would start bleeding again. She had to stay in the house, but I don't think she minded because it was cold & windy. I had fun snoopying around & found a really cool animal carcass. I was so excited that I ran to Mom to show her. She freaked & made me drop it & then she threw it in the fire. Darn! Guess she didn't realize I was planning on taking that back home with me. :-( We practiced on some agility stuff for a bit & my Weim sister did just fine & her toe didn't even bleed. Well, I'm pooped & it's my bedtime.

Hello! My Mom got a card from the vet & it was time for all my annual shots & check up. Uck! I knew something was up when Mom got home from work because we didn't practice any jumps or weave poles, but she started brushing me immediately. Hmmm........I wasn't done playing with my Weim sister either. Mom always waits until after we play & rough-house before she brushes me. Then when she put me in the car & I knew it wasn't Fri...............so we weren't going to class. ????? But it didn't take me long to figure it out. (rolling eyes) I really don't mind it so much because I love the dog cookies they have at the vet & I LOVE my vet. I think she is pretty & she says nice things to me. :-) I was a good girl for all my examine & all my shots but I didn't like that stuff they shot up my nose, but I still gave the vet & assistant a big wet kiss. The vet said I did not have one ounce of fat on me. She told my Mom I was solid muscle, even down my back. :-) Mom told her that I am on dry food-Science Diet & get NO people food ever. The vet told Mom to keep it up as so many dogs are over-weight & it is so bad for them. Mom said Dad will have to quit calling me "Shelb the chub". Hmmm.......maybe this wasn't such a good thing afterall. That means I will NEVER get some yummy people food. :-( I LOVE to eat.....I LIVE to eat. I love my doggie treats during agility practice & class but they are so tiny. MOM! Let's talk about this!

Hi Everyone! We just completed our last class in our first session of agility. It was a blast this class as we got to do 12 obstacles in a row, including the 'hold table'. That was so much fun. I think it 'pooped' all of us out because all the dogs were just laying around during the discussion at the end of class. There are actually only 4 dogs in our class so we get a good workout in the 90 mins. :-) Dad was especially proud of my Weim sister as she did really well this last class. (rolling eyes in head-whatever) She is very fast, but she is a 'lean-mean machine'! Now if I sound like sour grapes, rightfully so because I am a bit thicker than my slender Weim sister & am not as fast, especially on the weave poles! :-( Our Mom & Dad signed us up for the next agility session. They do not plan to compete us, but think it has been very good for us.
As it was REALLY cold this past weekend, we didn't get to go out much. Bummer...........I hate boring weekends of having to stay inside most of the time. We did a little bit of practicing in the barn, but Dad turned the blower/heat thingy on & I hate it because it makes a lot of noise. When I was little I used to bark at it all the time.
That's all for now.............Shelby

Hi All! Yesterday we had a visit from my breeder, who is also a friend of my Mom & Dad. She brought one of my 8 month old half sisters, Cinna, with her. But she was very shy & didn't really want to play with me & my Weim sister. I let her chew on one of my bones. I showed her some of the jumps & teeter totter I practice for agility. But she wasn't interested in any of that at first. But after awhile, her Mom & mine got her started on some of the stuff. She did really well & my Mom thought she was beautiful & very smart. I didn't mind that at first, but after awhile I was a bit resentful because Cinna was getting too much attention. I want Mom to like me best so I snipped at Cinna, but that was not a good thing because I got in trouble for that. :-( Later we practiced some agility stuff & I was 'pumped' & did a good job for Mom so she wouldn't be mad at me anymore. :-) My Weim sister is "smoking" me on the weave poles, but I am making up for it with following my Mom's directions better. :-)
Bark at you all later..........Shelby

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It was a nice one! About 45 degrees & the sun was shining all day! Mom & Dad took me & my Weim sister, Wren, to the fields, where they cleared brush & burned it along a creek. Me & Wren had a blast running & snoopy. We were good & never got too far away. It was fun but very exhausting as we ran & ran & explored. When we got back home, Mom gave me that bath she promised. UCK! Now I smell like a sissy dog & I am a 'cowgirl'! Mom set up a few of the agility obstacles in the barn & we practiced some. She added the mounting block just for something different. Ha! That was no big deal & I handled it as if it had always been part of the course. :-) Mom was happy with me because I did everything right every time. :-) My Weim sister was so tired that Dad tried to practice her, but she wouldn't do it. She refused to get off the settee she was snoozing on so Dad didn't make her since she was so tire. She is such a 'princess'! Heck, I am always 'up' for a little practice because I LOVE the treats I get at the end. Hmmmm.........Well, it's bed time & I am pooped.

Hi All! It's Wed. & my Mom was off work-using up vacation she has left. I love when Mom is home from work because I know we will take a walk to the fields in the back. It was a beautiful Nov. day about 45 degrees & the sun was shining. I got to run & snoop around the fields. When Dad got home, me & my Weim sister, Wren, practiced a few agility obstacles they set up for us in the barn.....a couple jumps, hoop jump, teeter totter, weave poles & holding table. Our holding table is funny because it is actually just two bales of shavings but it helps us learn the word 'table' I guess. Me & Wren did all the obstacles as we were directed so we only went thru it about 3 times. I could have done more--I like the treats we get when we complete a run. But Mom said let's quit on a happy note & our Dad wasn't feeling too good--getting the flu I think. :-( Tomorrow we ALL are going to the woods to cut brush & burn it. Whewwww Whoooooo! That means me & Wren get to run & snoop in the fields. We LOVE that! I heard Mom say we would be quitting early because I have to get a bath. Oh no! Uck! I usually go to the groomer once a month, but I got really muddy in the horse pasture the other day & it took my Mom almost an hr. to brush me out. I don't think she was very happy with me. I sleep in the barn, but she said I smelled bad & I have agility class Fri. so guess I am getting an extra bath this month. :-(
Everyone have a great turkey day!

Completed my 3rd agility class. It's getting a lot harder even tho my Mom practices me every night. I was having a hard time paying attention this class. We had a new dog in class & I had never seen a doggie so animated--he was everywhere & fast getting there. I was also wanting some of the hot dogs that was being placed on the obstacles for one of the dogs. I guess I wasn't a very good girl. :-( I have to really watch my Mom very closely & understand when her arm is up I am suppose to go away & when her arm is down, I am suppose to come in closer. Geeze! What's up with that......I always come when she calls me. Anyway, I have lots of homework this week to work on. Sat. I got to go to the fields & woods while Mom & Dad cut brush & burned it. I spent a lot of time snooping around but got tired & just layed & watched them. It was nice to relax & forget about jumps. teeter toters & tunnels for awhile.

I just completed my 2nd agility class. Wow! It was so fun. I got to go off lead & go thru the obstacles. I know my Mom was proud of me for staying with her & watching her to see where she wanted me to go next. :-) We got to do the weave poles & teeter totter this class. My Mom practices me a lot on the weave poles at home & I can walk thru them weaving, but not good enough to run yet. I sure was tired at the end of the 90 min. class though. I'm going to practice really hard this week for next week's class. :-)

I completed my first agility class & had a great time. My class is 90 mins. long & I was getting kinda tired by the time it was over. I slept ALL the way home. My Dad made a lot of the equipment, so me & my Weim sister had done the obstacles prior to class but it was fun doing it with new doggie pals. The other dogs were older than me & my Weim sister but they were nice. Mom has us practice every night to keep us in shape & she says I need a job to do. I like to stay busy & if she doesn't find me something to do I sometimes get myself into trouble.

I have been tagged by my pal, Chloe, a beautiful blue merle aussie, so Mom is going to start keeping a diary for me. My dog family consists of a hound-mix "Louie" someone dumped on our street about 4 yrs ago, a female Weim my Dad got from Weim rescue, "Wren" she's about 18 months now and of course, me & I was 1 yr old in Aug of this yr. A few things about me:
1. I LOVE to play with all dogs. I am not aggressive, but I am bossy.
2. I love horses & will sit for hours & watch them in the field. When my Mom & Dad camp, I am tied next to the portable horse corrals so I can let them know if one of the horses should do something they shouldn't. That's right up my 'alley' as I am bossy & like tattling on them.
3. I have been to puppy obedience classes. I know several "dumb dog" tricks (that' what my Dad calls them), i.e. hi five, sit, down, roll-over, you know that kind of stuff.
4. I don't stay in the house, as I just get too hot & I NEED to know what is going on in the barn! Mom tried me in the house, but I would sit & stare out the window all the time & cry at the door.
5. When we camp, I am crated at night or when my Mom & Dad go off riding. They are afraid me & my Weim sister will bark & bother other campers. We don't mind because Mom always gives us a new chew bone each day while we are in our crates. Hmmmm....
6. I start agility classes tomorrow........I can't wait as I have been doing some practicing at home.
