My three brothers, parents and I were for sale at one of those eeeeevil auctions in Missouri. The person who owned the puppy mill was going out of business so he was selling all his dogs. The wonderful people at Westie Rescue Tennessee bought us and a bunch of other Westies (and a couple Beagles) and brought us back to Tennessee. My bro's and I were only 4 1/2 weeks old!!!! EEK!

Then, once they got all the dogs back to TN, they found out that puppies were coming and SOON! The 38 Westies they brought back soon became 46 and a week or so later they realized MORE puppies were coming!!! (even though the guy was getting out of the business he had bred some of the dogs) There weren't many foster homes that would take puppies, so my brothers and I were adopted out at 6 1/2 weeks of age.

Mommy got some flack from some people about how young I was, but she figured I was going to be taken from my mom at that age no matter what, so she'd bring me to a "Westie home"! It was funny because the rescue lady told Mommy all about soaking my puppy kibble till it was mushy and all that....and guess what....I wouldn't eat it! Mommy says I looked away from the bowl of mush, walked over to a piece of kibble on the floor and picked it up and munched on it...she told Daddy it I was saying "I don't need no stinkin' baby food!" BOL!

We drove back to Ohio where I found myself a wonderful home with an older sister (Pooh Bear) and a big fenced yard to run in and 'rents I love love love love....especially Daddy! hehe! My big sissy went to The Bridge in 2009, but I wasn't alone for long...now I have my little sissy Caleigh who sits on my head and stuff but it's ok because we play a LOT and we're super close.

So...please think about a rescue doggy when you're looking for a family member!!!!

Yes, today is Darby's Gotcha Day! Four years ago my husband and I drove to Tennessee to meet our new furbaby. We'd lost our Tigger to The Beast (cancer) October 11, 2007 and I'd been looking for a new furry babe to come fill our home. I don't believe in coincidences, so I'll say there was synchronicity :-)

I started looking in early March, but things just weren't working out. Then, on April 24th (the 30th anniversary of my mother's death... synchronicity #1) I found out that Westie Rescue Tennessee had been to one of those evil dog auctions in Missouri and they'd brought back 38 (yes, 38!) Westies including four wee pups and their parents. Darby & her brothers were on the auction block when they were only 4 1/2 weeks old! (grrrrrrrrrr!) We knew we wanted a girl so that one girl was ours. The pups and their mom went to a foster home where the pups would continue to develop....but....then WRTN learned that one, then two of the females from the auction were expecting. Darby & her bro's had to be moved out because foster families that will take puppies aren't plentiful so we headed to Tennessee earlier than planned.

I took some flack for taking Darby at only 6 1/2 weeks, but the mama was already weaning the pups on her own (who knows how early it may have been done in the puppy mill) and I figured she was going to be adopted out regardless so she was OURS!!!

We picked Darby up on May 10, 2008 (synchronicity #2...my late brother's birthday). Late that night in the hotel room she whined and we got up...Dad took her outside while I sleepily mixed the kibble with warm water to make a soft "mush" as instructed by Westie Rescue. Darby walked to her bowl...sniffed...walked away...picked up a piece of kibble from the floor and crunched it as if to say "I don' need no stinkin' baby food!" She never looked back!

Our Pooh Bear was 13 when Darby came to live with us. Pooh wasn't real thrilled for a couple weeks, but then one day they played and I knew everything would be fine.

Now Darby is the BEST big sister to our little Caleigh. Pooh did teach her well. Darby is obsessed by her ball, loves playing with her sister, and is a wonderful Westie!

Oh...and synchronicity #3...I first "met" Westies through a friend back in the 80's. I fell in love with the breed and was determined to have one in the future. Darby's birthday, March 27....the same as Sherry's....Darby was destined to be ours!

We love you sweet girl! Thank you for choosing us!

Oh boy....today is my barkday and I know what that means!!! Pressies, a special dinner treat (hamburger!!! yum!) and some ice cream for dessert! I just hope Daddy doesn't try to burn my nose with that candle thing he sticks in the IC :-0 And then there are all the photos...I feel like Britney or Lindsay with all the paparazzi the way Mommy keeps snapping off pics!

I have a couple packages from pals that I haven't been allowed to open yet...hmphf! They have MY name on them, not Mommy's so where does she get off taking MY pressies hostage, I ask? Huh? Mommy, you got some 'splainin' to do!!!

This year I have to share with Baby C...but I know that when it comes to the burger and IC I'll be featured on my throne (ok...the wicker chair in the living room...can't blame a girl for dreaming!) and won't have to fight her off. The 'rents will keep her on the floor which is her rightful place....well, until July when it's her turn...bol bol bol!!!

Well...I need more beauty sleep before my close-ups...when I wake up it will be DARBY DAY here at the castle!!!!

Later, taters!

Today Mommy & Daddy bundled us up and took us for a car ride. We got out at our favorite pet store. I thought we'd just go in and pick up some things like always, but I knew something was up when Mommy put my pretty Christmas dress on me (made especially for me by the House of Donna in Texas!).

Well...we walked in the door and THERE HE WAS!!! SANTY PAWS!!! OMD OMD OMD! We were sooooo excited...we sat on his lap for pictures and took advantage...lots of whispering in his ear about all the goodies we want him to bring us for Christmas.

Then...the store gave us two bags of treats! I guess it was a down-payment on our Christmas pressies ;-)

Back in the car we went...and got out at PetsMart...and what was there but doggies waiting to see....yes....SANTY PAWS! Boy, he gets around. He pretended he didn't remember us but we saw a twinkle in his eyes that let us know he had our list.

What a day!!!!! I can't wait until Christmas!!!!!!

It's not my fault!!! I mean...the mama bunny made her nest in MY flowerbed in MY yard...what did she expect?

Sigh...when Daddy found the nest, he put an ex-pen around the plant where the babies were. The mama would leave during the day and come back at night. Everything was fine until this weekend....

Daddy told Mommy that the baby bunnies were out and about in the yard. They didn't know if the babies came back or what but they kept a close eye on me after I cornered one and made it squeak in fear.

Tonight...I came in and had my chewy treat and then wanted to go back outside so Mommy let me out. A while later Daddy checked on me and then he came in to see Mommy and said "You're responsible!" I killed a baby bunny...and brought it up on the deck to show them.

Mommy told Daddy they couldn't be mad because I just did what I'm bred to do...but Daddy still keeps saying I'm a "baby bunny killer"! I keep whining to go back out but THAT'S not gonna happen!

Mommy also says that my angel sissy Tigger is probably overcome with pride watching me follow in her pawprints. :-D

Yes! It's true....a silly mama rabbit decided to build a nest in the flower bed beside our deck! Wednesday night while the 'rents were enjoying the weather on the deck, they heard me barkbarkbarkbarkbarkbark at something. Daddy came to investigate and found a nest with baby bunnies in it. He put me in the house (the humiliation!) and then put the 2nd ex-pen around the nest so I can't get to it!

This morning I was out with Mommy and I was just roaming around when she heard barkbarkbarkbarkbarkbark and sure enough, I was down by the ex-pen trying to get in. You can see the video here on my page.

Funny thing is, sometimes I bark, sometimes I don't....they figured out I only bark when the mama is there. The babies are still really little and all covered up.

Now the question is....what happens when the babies get bigger! Hey, Mommy & Daddy....do you think you can watch me every minute??? muahahahahahahaha!
