<content:encoded><![CDATA[ A few weeks ago, I began episodically favoring my left, hind leg. Mom thought I'd suffered a minor sprain so she minimized my running. Some days I would be fine, others I wouldn't.

I don't know about every other pup, but I have only one trigger and that's having my nails clipped, paws touched and yes, sometimes even LOOKED at. Luckily I run my nails down, but I won't let Mom look at my paw if it's injured. She tried, but - uh, uh, uh - no peaking at the paws, Mom grrrrrrr! So, it was off to the vet's for me.

I was wonderful during the exam, except when I was violated by the thermometer! I told her, "Hey Lady! I'm here for my paw!" Geeze!! Anywho, I received A LOT of compliments about how calm I was with the other patients in the waiting room, and my Mom BEAMED!! But Mom had to leave me, as I required sedation to receive a more detailed paw examination. Believe it or not, my dogtor found NOTHING in my left paw but removed a sharp, short thorn from my right paw! Despite the thorn's removal, I walked out of the vet's office continuing to favor my left paw.

Within a few days, I would occasionally refuse to weight bear with my left paw only after my run. I had x-rays run, too, none of which were abnormal. I was relegated to the dreaded leash while out with my family. Within a few days, a digit appeared swollen. Finally, a visual clue!!!! Apparently, the microscopically-sized thorn/splinter migrated from its entrance site without leaving a discernable puncture.

Our dogtor decided to try an anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and warm soaks with Epsom salt in hopes of bringing the nasty foreign body to the surface. Not too bad, except the worst part of the above "anti" regiment is "anti-RUNNING" till I'm healed. I've begun acclimating to the warm soaks. While I won't admit to enjoy them - I do love when Mom rubs my ears and tells me happy Tucker stories during the soak:)

So the good is.....following two days of soaks and meds, my toe is noticeably less inflamed. I'm thinkin' pretty soon - I'll be back to my old hunting tricks again!!! Watch out critters - here I come - with all four paws soaring!!!!

The bad is the dogtor showed Mom the location of my lymph nodes. Needless to say, she can't STOP checking all of our nodes :) And if I hear "Who's next to get their lymph nodes checked?" one more time - I'm outta here!!!]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ This diary entry is about a very special girl and her very special dog, G and Buddy, respectively, as below. I think once you see them, your heart will melt as you read our (their) story.

<a id="img4731989196" + class=bodyTextRev target=site onClick="alert('Dogster Alert: You are about to visit an outside link that was submitted by this pet owner.');" href="http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk125/dogstagged/buddy.jpg" onmouseover="document.getElementById('img4731989196').innerHTML = String.fromCharCode(60) + 'img src=http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk125' + '/dogstagged/buddy.jpg' + String.fromCharCode(62) + String.fromCharCode(60) + 'BR/' + String.fromCharCode(62) + 'Buddy and G'">Buddy and G</a>

Mom received a very special package in the mail today from a very special Dogster pal named Buddy.

To begin, Buddy was an amazingly smart, Border Collie mix who, over the course of his short life, would learn over 25 commands and hand signals. He loved playing fetch with his family and lived to please. He was a fun-loving, happy pup:)

I learned of Buddy through a pawsome pal, K10. K10's Dad encouraged me to take a look at Buddy. Apparently, three months prior, Buddy began to lose weight and had considerable dysenterry. He wasn't eating earerly and was lathargic. Buddy's Mommy, whom we'll refer to as G, was reaching out to Dogsters for information and advice, since despite a battery of tests and various treatments, Buddy could not rebound.

Despite various veternarian treatments and a lion's fight, Buddy grew sicker. On September 21, 2009, Buddy was far too weak and impaired and the family regrettably decided Buddy could no longer manage. Surrounded by all he loved, held in G's arms; the last words before journeying to the Bridge were whispered softly in his ear, "I love you, Buddy". The family returned Buddy home where he was carefully inturned on the property he loved most. His resting site, now adorned with flowers and a cross handcrafted from tree branches, is visited daily by G. She leaves flowers at his grave that she's picked from the yard.

In today's mail our Mom was suprised to receive a package sent by G. Contained within the meticulously-wrapped envelope was a clipping of beautiful thick, black fur secured in a plastic blag. Also enclosed was a photo, seemingly laminated with Scotch tape. Mom knew instantly - it's Buddy. Also enclosed was a handwritten letter to Mom by G. On the back of the picture, the following words are written "The Buddy I Remember".

I'm (Lisa) is very emotional and continue to fight back tears as I type. But I'm honored to be entrusted with pieces of Buddy's fur. I'll forever <b>treasure</b> these offerings. So much so that the fur will be placed right next to my beloved Alex's urn, on the mantle within my home.

I've posted Buddy's page below for those inclined to offer this young girl some much needed solace and support.

		<content:encoded><![CDATA[ Hi Pals!!

I recently played a great new game provided by three of my pawsome pals: Wyoming, Riley and Austin. The game is called the Noun Hound. Here’s how it works:

Below are four clues to the secret animal. If you know the answer, pawmail me. The first four pals to answer correctly will win a rosette :)

1. I reside in the desert.
2. I weigh up to 3 lbs.
3. My ears may be as long as 6 inches and are essential to dissipate heat.
4. My extraorindary hearing allows me to locate prey underground or insects traveling on the surface of the desert sand.

Good luck pals!!!]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ Yes, it's true. I have a major fear..... thunderstorms and fireworks. They cause both me and my brother, Max, considerable anxiety. Fortunately for Joey and Vayla, they're unreactive to the noise.

Today, the meteorologist predicted extensive thunderstorms within our region; and unfortunately he was correct. Mom was at work, but worried that we would become overly stressed. Fortunately, we never get destructive. Unfortunately, our panic manifests with rapid panting and trembling uncontrollably. Max also whines and presses himself against Mom for safety and reassurance.

Mom came home early today; and we were so relieved, we almost knocked her down when we saw her :) We refused to go out in the yard and relieve ourselves, so Mom changed and in the car and off to the woods we went - earlier than usual.

The woods are beautiful when it rains, and we love running in the rain. The ponds are fuller, the streams are more robust and the critters are everywhere. We love running through the puddles on the trails, too. Sometimes while we run past Mom, we kick up water and it hits her! We swam after ducks, flushed a few birds, Joey played with a snake (yuck!!) and Vayla enjoyed a few hunts with us, as she was able to tear herself away from Mom for a little bit. We didn't blink when it thundered, during which Mom became concerned and looked for Max & me. She noticed I'd run down a ravine and was rolling in, well you know, just a little something special! Pfffft, thunder!! THIS time, the rolling seemed to make Mom smile!!

Joey and I needed a bath when we arrived home, but other than THAT horrific experience, this thunderstorm was a piece of cake!]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ Now that the dust has settled, and Mom and I have patched up our little misunderstanding of yesterday - I think it's time to tell you what happened.

Yesterday, the weather was very hot and exceptionally humid in our part of the world. We headed out to the woods in the morning. The further in we hiked, the more humid it became. The sun was streaming through the trees; and the nats, mosquitoes and moths played havoc with Mom.

As usual, the moment the leash is unhooked I run to my favorite pond for a swim around, in search of ducks. I then run off the trails to check out the other ponds where my buddies, the ducks, and I like to play 'catch me if you can'.

Our hikes are usually two hours - and that's two hours of shear dog joy! I'm always far beyond and off the trails. I routinely run back so Mom can see me - or she starts calling my name and embarrasing me in front of our friends! I am very obedient and will turn on a dime when called. Late in yesterday's hike, I abandoned my usual routine. I didn't answer Mom's repeated calls and was disobedient.

Mom thinks this is what happened.....
I happened upon a new pond, an even bigger pond than all the other ponds. She thinks this because while she was looking and calling for me - she heard geese honking. She also heard men, within the vicinity of the geese honking, say "Good dog" several times. Really, really odd! They could have been speaking with their dog - Mom just wasn't sure.

Mom and my furmily headed in that direction but couldn't see anything. While they heard the geese honking - they couldn't see them - their were no people. At this point, Mom is questioning what's she's hearing - are they geese or could it be a dog bark? It had been going on for over 20 mns, if it were geese and I was chasing them, wouldn't they fly away? Mom was sooooo confused and worried. She convinced herself I couldn't be there, because I'd come when she called me. The trees, thickets and brush are vast, thick and impenetrable - well, for Mom anyway.

Mom and my furmily continued to walk and call for me, they searched for an hour and half. When she was literally at her breaking point - I saw her! I came running down the trail. Not a scratch on me, soaking wet with a big, tired smile! Mom grabbed my face and gave me the biggest kiss! She was so happy. Vayla, Max and Joey were happy, too. They each spent time smelling me. Joey licked my belly and enjoyed the goose droppings I brought back from my adventure!!! And that qualified all of what Mom heard and initially thought - I was chasing the geese.

Today, our hike was like nothing happened. We ran together, played together and I swam a lot - but couldn't find the geese. Luckily I didn't need the geese today, me and my duck friends had a lot to catch up on and A LOT of play time!!]]></content:encoded>

Our place is full of countless, precious memories. It's where we soar like eagles. Every breeze is an antagonist accompanied by crashing waves and sprays of mist.

We lived entirely in the moment. Never compromised, always eurphoric, focused and ageless. There's no determinable end. Birds soar faster there, as do we. Our pace is interrupted briefly by the pressure of churning walls of water.

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ We didn't want this day to pass without giving a very special gift to a very special lady, our Mom! We think this will prove how unselfish we can be. *<i> wink, wink</i>*

<b>Our Promise to Mom</b>

~ We'll sleep in your bed at night and occupy as much space as possible. We imagine it's pretty uncomfortable without us.

~ When we drink water, we'll splatter and drool puddles about the kitchen floor and walk in them, so our paws will stay nice and clean.

~ We'll help with housework by prewashing the dishes in the sink or while you're loading the dishwasher. We'll clean the floor of anything you've dropped and continue our monitoring efforts of the countertops and remove any loose food particle, pronto.

~ We promise to shower you with gifts of unknown life forms that we've caught during our expeditions. Mom, the expression on your face when friends refer to us as "The Manson Family" - is unexplainable. We see it, and we love it - the pride streams through!

~ We'll continue to shed our coats, knowing how much you enjoy seeing our white hairs accessorize your wardrobe.

~ We'll toss and rip apart our toys in the house to show you how grateful we are to have them.

......................

We understand the enormity of this promise, but we're going to work at fulfilling every single item!!! We promise!

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ Today was another fun day in the life with an added twist!!

In lieu of going to the woods, Mom brought us to one of our very favorite places where we routinely run. The place I refer to is a very special park that was built by the Army Core of Engineers. Its beauty is favored by grass-covered fields, long hills with winding dirt- and paved-trails; and in certain sections, it runs parallel to the Mystic River. The park is also notable for nonindeginous bird life :) And we bird dogs love em'!!

As soon as our leashes are unhooked - we're off. All was happy and gay - Vayla, Max, Joey and I were running full throttle - checking out our favorite spots that typically yield a bunny, squirrel or finch.

Mom started to snap some pics of me swimming after the ducks in the river. She was happy that finally I was swimming HERE - unusual for me at this park! I'd never swam here - would just wade to reduce the heat of the run during summer months, despite seeing ducks, swans or geese.

We continued to run about and, unbeknownst to Mom, I went back in the river. Mom realized she hadn't seen me and began calling - then she heard the geeze - and they were at a considerable distance!! Uh oh - it was clear - I was in hot pursuit.

Mom went into panic mode - she looked for me, but she knew I wasn't on dry land. She looked out over the river and couldn't see me. She called me and then beeped my collar - thankfully it has a one mile radius! That's when I turned around - Mom continued to look for me and as I swam closer; my brown head bobbing up and down became faintly visible. Mom was shocked - I was at a considerable distance - too great a distance - greater than 3/4 across that section of river. She continued calling out my name while cheering me on as I swam toward her (what must people think!!). I came out of the water, shook it off and continued running - pffft!!!

Mom is convinced - I am an all around athlete. My legs are strong and muscle-defined, and my paws are webbed. I was built for swimming, and I'm at the peak of my athleticsm. I've ongoingly swam at the beach in much tougher waters than the river. Mom needs to remember, I'm not the fastest runner - but my endurance is unmatchable!]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ We had a wonderfur day today.

We heard Mom on the phone this morning telling someone she wouldn't be able to make it to the office because she's sick. Hmmm, we knew she was under the weather but not THAT sick...... When Mom hung up the phone - she sang those magical words "Who wants to go to the beach?"!! I'd seen her checking the tidal heights. (We only go when the tide's low - Mom's afraid we may run over the breaker wall if we're too far from the shoreline.) We couldn't believe our ears - the beach - it's our absolute favorite place to run and play!!! We were sooo excited, we could barely eat our breakfasts!!

Mom had to do a few things, and all four of us followed her around; trying to urge her to go a bit faster so we could go to THE BEACH! Before we knew it - we were off.

We know from the driving route that the beach is our eventual destination - we pant wildly and push our heads out the windows with huge smiles while the wind blows our lips - and sometimes our lips make silly, slapping sounds :) The anticipation is always intense.

We finally arrived, and the beach was amazing! Tucker, Max and Vayla chased the seagulls - Tucker swam A LOT against a fairly aggressive surf. He's amazing against the surf - nothing can prevent him from chasing those birdies. We all participated in the multitude of birdie chases.

As wonderful as it was, it became even that much more .... <b>WE SAW DUCKS!</b> Could this be? We're not in the woods today - we've NEVER seen ducks in the ocean before - DUCKS - here - in the ocean - Yes, indeedy - and lots of em'!! Mom tried to take pictures of us but we were so fast and soooo far beyond Mom ..... we'll see how they come out.

It was amazing - grey sky, low tide, fog slowly rolling in and about 50 degrees. We stayed for over two hours and walked the three miles, each way - well; Mom walked - we ran with cheek-splitting smiles on each of our faces!

We are all so very sleepy now, resting comfortably next to our Mom. We had a wonderful day today - and our dreams tonight will be that much fuller.]]></content:encoded>

		<content:encoded><![CDATA[ I am a CHANGED boy!

I'm a 'fielder' type of GSP; and that means that I need to be out front, scattering about, following scents and sounds - always on the move, scaling ledges, swimming, leaping and always in hot pursuit of prey. I <u>only</u> stop to eye point at grouse, pheasants and yes, chipmunks! Since I'm very fast and athletic, my older GSP sister, Vayla, can't keep up with me - and Joey only comes when he knows there's a meal in it for HIM :) So..... I was largely out front without a pal for the past two years.

This past August, my Mom brought Max into our home - and it was not long after that he became a part of our family. At first, my impression was ...... he's a little on the bossy side. I soon came to realize, Max is the best! Mom worked with Max, so he wouldn't usurp our position in the pack and at home - and we are all on the same level now and completely appreciate one another's environ. What I love most is he can keep up with me in the woods, he loves to chase me at the beach (take a look at the video of us at the beach) and accompanies me hunting for rabbits at the parks. He's become my constant companion, both inside and outside of the home. My Mom is thrilled at the transformation. When she sees us together running out onto a trail from the thick brush, she smiles and commends us! It gratifies her to no end!! Max and I also sleep in the bed together, get kisses from Mom together, lay around on the sofas, drink from our water bowl at the same time and NEVER get bossy with one another.

Max and I innately understand one another - we are fielders. Vayla is more of a gunner (stays closer to Mom). But the most important thing I realize is - I have a pup just like me and we are true brothers.]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ I've been tagged by my pawsome friend, the beautiful Sophie Claire!!

I have to list 7 things about me in this diary.

1. I get 2 hours a day of running and/or swimming.

2. I am funny and make my mom laugh... a lot!!

3. I require a lot of independence outside, so I can find something dead, dying or decomposed and roll in it :(

4. I have excellent recall.

5. I love running in the woods with my family.

6. I make a dolphin-like noise and run backwards when I want something.

7. I wouldn't change a thing about my life or my family!

Now.... I have to tag 7 pawsome pups............. Hmmmm.... After you finish reading the diary, my pup pals listed below have to tag 7 of their favorite pup pals. Then write in your diary, and be sure to pmail the pups and tell them they've been tagged.

1. Rook

3. Jake
4. Bentley
5. Bailey
6. Sybil Marie

		<content:encoded><![CDATA[ Wow, I'm so surprised!

I've been named "Furriend of the Day" (FOTD) by a most special group, <b>BBF</b>. If you've not heard - any pup who's anypup is among the membership. They are a wonderfully active group and love their pups lots. My BBF furriends have been sending me gifts and pawpal requests throughout the day, and I feel like a celebrity.

This is <u>EXACTLY </u>what a day in the life of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton must be like! Have to tell my Mom that during our run, I may need to disguise myself - don't wan't to be accosted by those pesty two-legged paparazzi!!]]></content:encoded>

<u><b>Ode to Peppy LePew, by Joey</u></b>
While running yesterday at the park,
I cornered Peppy and at him I barked.
As the <u>HOUR</U> went by, so unrelenting was I;
That I got sprayed til I left after dark!

Note from Mom:
..... The smell was nauseating, but the happy ending is Max and Vayla were left unscathed. Joey and Tucker had a deskunking bath after FINALLY getting home and smell like their beautiful selves today:)]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ These days have been busy for me and my family! This is our favorite time of year - lots of critters out and about.

The rabbits have been too numerous to count at one of our running spots, and we love to chase them. And the squirrels.... They take great pleasure in taunting my friends, family and me by dropping pieces of acorns down on our heads! Hmmmm, maybe they're doing it deliberately? A little irritated at us, perhaps? Could it be because when we spot one running, we initiate a fast-paced chase after it? Hmmmm, now I'm wondering.......
