Hi Di -

It's been another long while since we talked. I am a happy dog. I got my UKC Junior Jumper in dock jumping. I was the jumpingest GSD out there :-) And I'm still doing really well in agility... trials coming up. I train for real a couple times a week and do fun runs on Sat. If you ask me, they are ALL fun runs.

It's summer and we do a lot of walks... and I still do automatic sits at the curbs. Lots of people ask dad how he gets me to do that with no words and a loose leash. Dad just smiles and says 'Good dog, Charka!'. We also walk through the park where there are lots of people. I keep my mind on walking (and squirrels, of course) and don't pay any attention to all the distractions ('Good dog!'... that's me). Dad uses 'gee' and 'haw' to adjust my line so I won't trip or scare anyone.

Dad loves to walk through the woods near the wolf enclosure at the zoo. Sometimes the wolves walk with us (inside their fence, of course). They are big and doggish... mostly I just look for rabbits and squirrels... and moles (did I mention I'm really good at catching moles?).

Otherwise, since it's summer, people are throwing water all over their lawns. I LOVE spraying water... almost as much as I like big pools of water.

Anyway, got to go. It's time for another nice walk. I hope I can convince dad to do the looong walk. We'll see.

Talk to you later, Di.

Your friend,

Dear Di-

You know, we haven't talked in over a year! Wow! Tempus fugit!!! I have been well... ok, I did have a left toe amputated because of damage when I was little. Nobody knew the extent of damage until dad asked for an x-ray cuz I'd limp every so often. But, I'm fine and doing really well and my foot doesn't hurt anymore.

I'm studying obedience to start competition for real this fall. Dad thinks I've settled down enough and I think so too.

I love agility, so we take a couple of classes each week and then do a recreational class on Saturdays. My big goal is to finally understand the weave... and I'm getting it!

Mom's dad came to visit and I really REALLY like him and he liked me. I got to sleep in his room and take him for walks. He got to come and visit me at school too. I can hardly wait until he comes to visit again.

And finally, this Saturday I found another sport I love... it's called dock jumping. You know how I love jumping into water after my tug? There is actually a sport where you get to do it until your toes turn blue!!! I loved it, did I mention that? It was a class and I spent an hour and a half barking to get another turn and then running and jumping and swimming... it was soooo exciting. Dad said I acted completely crazy... but he promised to let me practice and go to another class and start jumping in the spring for points, whatever those are. The teacher said I was just incredible for a shepherd... but I KNOW that.

That's enough for now di... I won't even mention how good I've gotten at catching moles... but, dad won't let me eat them. I wish mole catching were a sport too. ANYWAY, I promise to talk soon and put up a video of me jumping into the water... did I mention I love it?

Bye, for now, di...

Hey Di -

It's me Charks. As usual, I've been busy :-) Dad thinks I'm almost perfect... dad just sooo under-rates me. On Sat, mom was out of town and dad took me down to the local coffee shop to get a coffee and scone. The only problem was that dogs can't go into the shop. Sooo, dad put me into a sit-stay, looped my leash over a post and went in to get his coffee. I, of course, held my sit and we shared a bit of that scone to celebrate. Can you say 'Good dog, Charka!'?

On Sunday, dad decided to take me for a long walk past the big park. Actually, I helped dad decide by pointing myself in the proper direction when we got to the corner. I do automatic sits at curbs (Good dog, Charks!)... but I do sometimes indicate my walk preference. Weeellll, there were tons of people parking on the street and going to the park... so I got to show off my don't-bother-anyone walk... Good dog, Charka!

Then there was the toddler... the parents walked past us and the child was following, and just came running at my side to give me a pet before anyone could react. I did not react; nope. Good dog, Charka! [OK, I am very tolerant of children. I was certainly not surprised at my behavior].

And in agility, I did a couple of perfect weave-tunnel-hop-hop-teeters... dad gave me good treats and a big hug. I loved the treats... and dad hugs me even when I'm not 'Good dog, Charks!'.

There's probably more... dad says I'm have more and more times where I'm 'Great dog, Charka!'... I love dad... and hotdogs.

Talk to you soon Di,

Your friend,

Good-dog-Charka (that's me :-) )

Dear Di -

I have, as usual, been a busy pup. I'm taking my obedience class and my agility class and a recreational agility class. Dad says I'm getting really good. We don't do all the obstacles in my recreational agility class, but we've been learning how to do long chains of objects and remain under control. We took what we'd learned and looked really good in regular agility. In agility, they set up two semi-circular tunnels and a jump in the middle. 'Tunnel, tunnel, tunnel, tunnel, tunnel, Chark-hop' and I came to a stop right in front of dad! Wow, was that fun! Then he did 'Tunnel, tunnel, tunnel, tunnel, Chark-hop' and I came over the jump the other way and stopped right in front of dad. Wow, was I 'Good Dog Charka'. I'm still the fastest dog that's ever been.

I went to the vet for my heartworm check and got to sit on the scale... I'm 81 lbs. They took me in wihout dad to get my blood checked. I was really happy to see dad when they let me out! His face and glasses were sooo clean when I got done showing him that I was happy.

It was a beautiful weekend, so I took my little people on a nice wagon ride. I even got a chance to lick William's toes (he's 6 months)... his mom wasn't so pleased when I got in just the tiniest little face lick when he was in the middle of his nap. _I_ thought I was 'good dog Charka'... sometimes people are strange. Dad even let me chase the hose water. He says we can probably go to the dog park next week so I can swim. I can hardly wait!

Anyway, I'll talk to you soon, Di.

Dear Di -

I have been a busy dog! I spent Christmas and New Years at Downton Dogs while my family was away. I came home relaxed... but not that tired :-))) Silly dad... sometimes he has strange expectations. Woof.

I've been sledding and carting... depends on how much snow is down... right now, it's sledding. I started a recreational agility course at Agile Canines... which has moved in right next to... Downtown Dogs. Did I mention how much I wanted to visit Downtown Dogs?

I'm just about ready to do Novice in obedience and dad is going to enter me in a couple of trials later in the month. My friend Mairin came to my obedience class last night. I like her and she likes me... but I'm pretty big, and she's not too fond of dog spit yet ;^) She gave me a treat and then was surprised at how gentle I was when I took it. Dad lets her work with me cuz he says it's good for me to learn to listen to her quiet voice. Sometimes I even do too... but she IS hard to hear.

We're starting a new round of agility work next week... I'll let you know how that goes. Dad thinks I've calmed down a lot... I can be crazy, but pretty much under control crazy. That should be good. Did I mention I was really good in my obedience class last night? Dad can be pretty tricky... the teacher said "blah your dog (that's me)"... and dad would wait... and I didn't :( Tricky dad! Woof!

Anyway, life is pretty exciting and I'm doing lots and lots of things... did I mention that I figured out how to open my kennel? Smart Charka!! Woof! Good dog!. I hope this isn't like the electric garage door thing and dad will change the way things work... sigh.

Oh, well. Talk to you soon di.

Hey Di -

I am a happy dog. We have been having snow and I love snow... running and jumping in the snow and snow cones for water and... well, you remember Cart Dog Charka? Well, dad brought the kicksled from the attic and I'm learning to pull a dog sled. IT IS FUN! Woof! Good dog Charks! I am Sled Dog Charka and really proud of my new job.

It is harder to get the sled started than my cart, but I've been doing just fine and am working on speed... I get to pull my small people and that is way fun.

I'm going to go visit Downtown Dogs for Christmas break... did I mention I also love Downtown Dogs? But I get really tired too. Romping is HARD work. I'll talk to you when I get back, OK?

You have a great Holiday, Di.

I am a cart dog! I have learned to control my wagon and I've gone up and down hill. I've pulled children fast and slow... mostly I like fast... and they do too. Dad got me a sleigh bell collar so I jingle as I move. Dad even makes me put it on when we just go for a walk... he says it sounds really neat...

I am really proud of my work and get excited when the harness comes out. Good dog, Charka! Woof!

Dad and I are still working on command for right and left, and stop and go... and I get lots of hotdog treats 'cause dad wants this be a fun experience. Don't tell dad, but it looks like I'm having fun even without the treats :-)

Talk to you soon Di. Make sure you look at my new video and pics.

I did really well! I took Mairin for a walk around the block in my new wagon... I'm learning to turn with confidence (that's what dad says) and I learned how to lean into the harness to pull the wagon up those sidewalk cutouts. And, you know what? My tail was wagging and I was having some fun! Woof! Good dog, Charka! Dad says he needs to adjust my harness just a bit... but he gave me lots of pieces of hotdog! Woof! Dad wants to take some pictures when I do this next and it's not too dark. I'm a happy and tired dog.

Hey Di-

I am 3 today! I'm hoping that mom and dad give me something good to eat for dinner. They got me a new EarthDog collar and they ordered me a doggie wagon to pull. I'm having a really nice b'day.

It's getting colder and I like that. Dad says I can still go swimming for a while. I love jumping into the river.

Dad also got a thingie so I can run with him when he bikes. We've been working slowly so my feet get tough. I've also been playing fetch with my ball. I've finally figured out how to catch that smooth ball when it bounces! I hope we can play lots of fetch tonight :-)

We have a new dog next door, Holly. She's around a year old and weighs less than me, but not too much less. I let her come into my yard and we played chase... we both like to run. I hope she comes over again!

Anyway, Di, I'm having a pretty fun day! Talk to you soon, I hope.

Dear Di -

I love 3-day weekends. I got to go to the dog park every day! And I love to play with the water from the hose, so dad figured out how to give me a bath yesterday so I didn't 'smell like old river water'... hmph... I thought I smelled pretty darn good.

I was the only dog in my obedience class last week and did a long sit and a long down while dad was out of sight. My teacher was really impressed :-) I did GOOD DOG, Charka, woof!

When dad and I went to the park on Saturday, we saw black clouds coming as we started back from the point. By the time we turned up the path from the river, it was raining big fat drops... and it was pouring by the time we got up the stairs near the gate. We got soaked! I usually like rain, but this was too much. Dad and I shared the towel :-))) Dad got to use it first.

Dad said it was the 4th of July! Happy birthday, USA!!! Woof! I guess I'm not bothered by fireworks (or thunder or other loud noises). Mom and dad are happy about that. I got to have some special pieces of meat with my dinner... yum!

Otherwise, that's it for now, di.

Talk to you soon,

Dear Di -

I am happy, how about you? I went to my classes yesterday. This week I did agility and then obedience... next week dad says we'll skip agility and go to my advanced obedience... if you're confused, think how _I_ feel. Anyway, I just love to work so it doesn't matter :-)
I've been doing really well in all my classes and between my classes... dad thinks I'm beginning to behave just like a... a GSD.

My 4 y.o. friend Mairin was out on a walk with us and decided I needed exercise, so she just started running, suprising dad. I ran right with her... oh, NOT after her; with her. Dad was really pleased 'cuz he wasn't sure what I would do.

Dog parking has been fun... I just LOVE swimming in the River. Walks are really fun now too. And playing fetch and tug in the yard? That's fun too. I'm having a really good summer.

Dad says I need to try out some fun [obedience] matches just so we see how ready I am. Dad says that he wants me to not just do OK but to do REALLY OK. He thinks I can be something special... well, I KNOW I'm something special! Woof! I'm glad dad's finally recognizing how right I am... woof, woof!

I'll see you soon, Di.

Dear Di,

Dear Di,

I am such a happy GSD! I love agility, I love obedience, we go to the park every weekend (and I swim and run and swim some more). Mairin, my parents' granddaughter, came to watch my agility class. She got to make sure I stayed on my mat while dad put my crate away. I did good and she did too. I LIKE Mairin because she picks the good treats out of the doggie trail mix! Dad wishes he'd taken a picture. He thought big Charka (that's me) doing an attentive down in front of little Mairin was charming...

Mairin's been learning how to work with me... I've learned that when M says 'Charka sit; Charka sit; Charka sit'... well, that's the same as when dad says 'Chark sit'. Dad was laughing his head off over what you can train with treats, a clicker and a 4 y.o. trainer. I love M, but have learned not to lick her too many times cuz she gets upset :-)

I stayed at Downtown Dogs over Memorial Day weekend. I really liked it and I came home REALLY tired. So many dogs, large and small, to play with... Dad and mom watched me on the camera. Dad says he thinks I'm the most beautimus dog in the whole wide world... and I agree ;^) woof! He also thinks that, as long as I'm a dog-friendly GSD, these group dog experiences help me remember how to properly interact... did I mention I'm an only dog at home?

You know Di, it's a wonderful time of year. There are rabbits and squirrels and I even saw a raccoon climb up a tree... dad said 'don't mess with THAT, Charks'. I'm sooo happy to be dog! woof, woof!! When we go to the dog park, there are lots and lots of dogs to play with (well, mostly I just want to fetch my tuggie in the river). This last week I visited with a newfie friend. Her owners and dad were amazed that we remembered each other from winter play... it was fun! I like big dogs. I have a Great Pyrenees friend down the street... but that's a story for next time.

Talk to ya soon Di,

Dear Di -

Woof! It's been a while and lots to report. About a month ago I was at the dog park and another dog bit me in the leg. THAT made me really mad, but I just fended him off like I do when I'm upset. Dad took me to the 'mergency vet and I got all sewed up... but I couldn't run around for a week and had to wait until I was all healed up to go back to the park. Dad was keeping a close eye on me to see how I'd react. But I've been to the park so many times that I know it's safe, so I didn't react any differently to other dogs... even 50 lb furry black dogs. I can get back to swimming and running! Woof!

I'm in an advanced obedience class now and fit in fine. Dad says I'm still a puppy but learning really well. We are working out our teamwork. I'm mostly pretty impressive when I understand what dad wants :-) Good dog, Char! I'm even listening to mom when she asks me to sit... even though I really REALLY want to run to dad when she opens my kennel... woof!! But I wait for her to say 'wolniej'. WOOF! Dad thinks we're about ready to start competing for UKC and AKC novice.

We're finally back in regular agility... had to wait for an opening in evenings. We worked on contol issues in the first class. Mostly I was very VERY good. I showed I know how to 'kennel up' and I love to tug. Remember my blue ringie thingie? Dad brought that for my tug. I LOVE the ringie thingie (and I know it by name). When dad says 'Where's your ringie thingie?', I know exactly what he means and I run to get it... unless I dropped it into the neighbors yard so they can throw it to me... but that's a whole 'nother story. Anyway, you should have seen me when dad opened the crate and moved out to tug... I waited for my release word and then came running like a rocket to tug with dad. I hope I didn't scare the other doggie parents. I'm not tiny, you know and I look, you know, kinda 'wolfy' and I'm fast and a little bouncy? But, I did everything just right. Woof!

Anyway, I mostly walk through the neighborhood like a CGC. I know not to react to the little poodle with the invisible fence and I didn't lick the man's ear when he was sitting on the curb and I had to come to my curb-sit (dad's taught me to always sit at the curb when we're walking even when I'm in front of him) right next to him. I almost always remember what dad wants me to do... sometimes a dog in a yard or across the street is just too exciting... and I start bouncing around. But dad's helping me to calmly just walk by.

Dad says he's really proud of me. I'm a good GSD! Yeah, Charks!! Woof! Dad thinks I'm the bestest and smartest GSD in the whole wide world. I love dad :-)

That was a lot! I promise to talk to you sooner next time, di... don't let the bad dogs bite!

Hi Di -

Did I mention that dad started taking me to private agility lessons. Dad is really pleased with some of the lessons that are helping me focus. _I'M_ really pleased at the quality of treats dad's using. I got a doggie mix of cheesy popcorn, cheese, dried beef and dried liver... pluuus, dad brought my favoritest toy in the whole world, my ringie thingie. I was sooo good and maybe learned a lot too.

I've been doing so well in obedience that dad's thinking that we should start trials in the spring. I'm even doing pretty good with my retrieve over a jump! Did I mention that I LIKE jumps. I don't love the down stay, but I understand it now and will wait till dad comes back even when I can't see him.

We've been going to the dog park on weekends. If you must know, I'm the GSD carrying the big tug toy... dad got tired of trying to find sticks in the snow. Anyway, I like my tug almost as much as my ringie thingie.

The river almost melted so I could swim. I started to go out on the ice toward the open water, but dad convinced me to wait a bit. I hope I can go swimming soon!

Dad took my pics and measured me (I'm 24 inches and 75 lbs) and he's sending in registrations tomorrow so I can start my performance career. Even I am excited.

Well, talk to you soon, di!

Hi Di -

This weekend was wonderful... mostly. I went to the dog park two times and we did three times around both days. I was sooo happy. THEN dad decided that he had had enough of Charks opening the garage door... the opener IS in the inside part of my kennel after all. Anyway, dad put a lid over the opener. I'm sad 'cause it was just like my very own big screen TV. Dad has been muttering things about darn intelligent GSDs and mostly laughing... So now I'll have to think up something else for fun... dad seems a bit concerned about THAT... although he was thinking about getting me my own TV for my inside space (not quite as wide as the garage door) and building me a Charka-sized remote so I could turn it on and off... just to see how THAT would work out. I hope I can get Animal Planet!

Anyway, it was a mostly great weekend.

I'll let you know if I get a TV!

Back soon,

Dear Di -

It's been a while and I've been a busy pup. It's been pretty cold here in Minnesota, but I don't mind cause I have my winter coat. Dad's still taking me to the dog park and for walks and all and I love snow. And you get to have snow cones every day! I spent a couple of weeks at Camp Bow Wow and dad watched me on the Internet playing with some new friends. He promised to post some new pics soon.

I went to the vet today for my shots and check-up. I'm about 72 lbs and the vet said I looked really good. I thought I looked pretty good too! I had on my red collar with the stars... it goes really well with my dark coat, ya know?

Since I'm more than 2 now, dad let me do some real jumps in agility. I like jumps and can go really high. Dad thinks I'm fun to watch. I love dad too and love to lick his eyelids when he tries to nap. He says my tongue feels just like sandpaper.

Anyway, we're going to obedience training tonight and probably over at the GSD club on Friday. Mostly I get it... but sometimes I just get sooo excited! Good Charka, woof!!

Dad says he loves to practice recalls in our alley. It's slippery and I start fish-tailing as I get close and need to slow down. Dad thinks its sooo funny... but he does back up fast too.

Anyway di, I'll let you know how things are going... and I promise to... try to write more often.

Dear Di -

It's me Charks! I haven't written for a while... I've been busy and, well, I forgot. I'm 2 years old now... woof! Mom and dad got me some chewies and a stuffed bone and I had some turkey in my dinner. It was a great party.

This Thanksgiving weekend I got to go out to the dog park three times. It snowed here, so I could have snow cones and I got to try out ice on the shore of the river and I went swimming, but dad wouldn't let me go out much. It was HARD to find a good stick, 'cause of the snow.

I met two very nice GSDs at the park. One was a puppy of 5 months. He wanted to play but wasn't fast enough yet. The other was a 5-yr-old and he was fast and nice and we ran around.

Even tho' I'm 2, I'm still the fastest dog in the world :-) It feels soooo good to run and jump and turn and feel the wind in your face.

Dad says we are going to start to get serious about obedience training. He wants me to get my CD or U-CD this summer. And, _I_ think I can do it... if I just don't get tooo excited by all those other dogs WOOF!

Anyway, I'm still studying agility and doing pretty good.

Talk to you soon, di.

Hi Di!

It's me, Charks, again. I love the Fall, don't you? The dog park is now all crispy and you can run and run and not get too hot. I still love swimming and playing fetch in the River. Dad's wondering if I'll stop swimming when it gets cold... he's a little worried :-)

I'm doing pretty good in obedience. I'm just about ready to go on to study for my novice at TCOTC... and did I mention that I joined the GSD club? So, dad takes me there to see other GSDs and to learn more obedience on Fridays. I met a male GSD that looks just like me! Most of the class was American GSDs, but there were the two of us... East German working lines! And we both were really fast on recall. Dad was thinking is was sooo funny that there were two of me in the world :-))) At TCOTC they make me go last to do my recalls because I move so quickly it gets the other dogs all excited. Did I mention that I LOVE recalls over a jump.

And agility is going well. I'm really fast there too. Dad jokes about having to think ahead so he can turn 'the bus'... that's me! I'm not really a bus... but dad talks about speed and mass and momentum... he can get pretty boring. I just love agility!

Well, I'll talk to you later Di.

Dear Di -

It's been a while since we talked. I've been busy and my 'cousins', Daisy-the-lab and Cody-the-golden, are staying with us for a while. Dad's trying to make sure we all get out for walks and to the park and that I still get to my classes and... well, it's been busy.

I've been having fun and doing really well in my dog classes. I'm enjoying it and dad's enjoying it... and did I mention I can be really fast? Woof! We have a golden in my class that is kind of crazy... like _I_ used to be... woof, woof. Right now I'm trying to set the example for my classmates on how to have fun and still listen... hard to believe, huh? And I'm also doing really well in obedience.

Dad says I'm a very smart girl and can watch K-9 Cops on Animal Planet tonight with him. I looked at the web site and those dogs look just like me! OK, they are GSDs from Europe and dad says they're probably East German lines... I'm Czech... but they look like my mom and dad... and me.

I'm a happy girl and I get to play with Daisy and Cody... just 'no wrestling inside'... whatever THAT means.

Dad bought me some water toys for when we go to the dog park... but I... misplaced them somewhere... Dad figured out that I'm really happier finding my own sticks (HE call them 'logs'. Funny dad.). Now that it's cooler, I love to run even more than in summer. Dad smiles and laughs when he sees me running up to the top of hills... and then running back down again. I am so strong and the wind feels so good. Sigh. It's so good to be dog.

Talk to you soon, di.

Well, I just got back from 10 days at Camp Bow Wow. Mom and dad went to San Diego. I think camp sounds like more fun, don't you? Dad said they watched me almost every day to make sure I was having fun! This week I'm back to Agility class and Obedience class, and that will be fun. Tomorrow and Monday I get to go running and swimming at the dog park. Today I got out for some walks with dad around the neighborhood. The State Fair is going on, so there were LOTS of people wandering around. I enjoy people, but they DO chase the squirrels away... and I really want to study squirrels... and rabbits. I popped the buckle on my leash, but dad only has to ask and I waited for him to fix it. Did I mention I'm really a good dog? _I_ don't run away. Good dog Charks! Mostly I listen hard and try to do what dad wants. Sometimes I make mistakes, but dad says I'm still a puppy... and probably will be for another 2 years :-) Funny dad. Mostly he thinks I'm settling down well and will be a very special dog... OK, he already says I'm a special girl and gives me a big hug and then doggie noogies... woof woof

Back soon with more di-

Hi, it's your friend Charks! I've been going to the dog park with my friends Cody-the-Golden and Daisy-the-Lab. We have been having fun. I am still the fastest dog ever, though. And I just love swimming too. We had such a good time yesterday evening. I ran and splashed and ran some more. Dad is really impressed that I seem to be learning my hand signals so he can help me when I can't see my tug-toy when I'm swimming in the river. Good dog! I'm really pretty good at understanding what dad wants and he says I'm really smart. Good Charks!!
I can walk through the crowd of people working on that Habitat for Humanity house when they are eating lunch... and I mostly don't stick my nose in their sanwiches. It's hard, though. And one of the ladies thought I was sooo nice, she gave me a BIG hug and I didn't pounce on her or anything. She was OK, but I wanted to get on with my walk. Summer is a busy time for rabbits and squirrels.
Dad thinks I'm turning out to be a really REALLY good GSD. Did I mention I LOVE dad? I love to clean his eyelids. He's also really impressed how my tongue feels like sandpaper. You should see him jump.

Well, di, got to go.

Dear Di -

I've been a busy pup. I got to stay at Camp Bow Wow and play with my friends. I got to swim in the Mississippi. Dad took me to a closer park last week and I broke a toenail when I pivoted around to get a tennis ball. It hurt a lot and dad took me to the vet. Did I mention that I love the vet people? They give out dog treats and let me stand with my front feet on the counter when dad talks to them. As soon as I learn to talk like people, I'm going to be just like dad! Anyway, I broke my left outside nail almost off. The vet thinks I cracked it a few weeks ago, 'cuz there wasn't any bleeding... but they still had to cut it off and there was a new nail growing in and I didn't howl or anything... good dog Czarka! Only I can't go swimming in the Mississippi for a couple of weeks and I can't run around the dog park or go to agility until the new nail grows in enough so it doesn't hurt.

I'm not limping now and my foot feels good and dad takes me for lots of walks... but I sure hope I can go to the park to run soon and dad thinks I'm just a little more loony than usual... good girl!

Did I mention that near our walk "Women Build" are building a Habitat-for-Humanity house? Dad likes to take me by for our noon walk and _I_ like to see if they're having anything good for lunch. He thinks it's really good for me to say 'hi' without jumping on anyone. Some of them still hug me and that's almost as much fun as pouncing on someone and licking them between the eyes. Good girl, Czarka.

Dad says that now that I'm CGC Czarka, I need to behave like a CGC. Oh darn... but mostly _I_ am being very good... oooh but I want to visit a squirrel or rabbit... oops, nie Czarka, nie! Good girl Czarka! Look, but don't jump!

So long for now, di. Talk to you soon.

Good dog, Czarka! Goood dog!!! Tonight I qualified for my Canine Good Citizen. I was a very good dog and dad is very proud of me. First I went to the dog park so I could burn off some energy. It was a wetland area... so I jumped into the water and it was really muddy... so dad took me home and rinsed me off 'cause he thought I didn't look good all covered in mud... and I smelled... interesting. And then I went to my dog school and took the test and I did OK! DAD almost goofed up... but he remembered to get my attention and then I did really well. Good dog!

I am a happy dog. Woof!

Dear Di -

Another great doggy week... I started training for my CGC in obedience class... and I mostly can do it! I get a little nervous when dad leaves for 3 whole minutes... but I'm learning. My teacher says I'm a really good GSD... even if I am a social butterfly (whatever THAT is).

We went to my fave dog park twice this weekend and I got to swim after sticks. I still make dad nervous when I go out into the current in the Mississippi and pretend I'm a retriever like cousin Daisy... but I can swim really well and _I_ know when to stop. I really had dad laughing when I jumped onto a big log and dived into the water to get my stick.

He thinks I'm just beautiful when I run through the woods. He even wrote a poem about me. I just love to run and jump and fly like the wind... and jump in the water for a special stick. Goood dog Charka! Good Charks!

This weekend I also got to help dad make a walk from brick and gravel. Mostly I just kept dropping my throw-toy into wherever he was digging... and mostly he didn't throw it... but EVERY NOW AND THEN, he learned the game! I hope I can get him trained this summer.

Well, talk to you soon diary.
I love Spring... now there is good fresh grass to eat :-)

I had a really great week. Dad says I'm growing up a bit. I sure hope not. I mostly did what I was supposed to in agility with only a couple of visits to other dogs. And then in obedience... did I mention I'm now a level 3 student? Anyway, mostly I'm doing really well there too. And THEN I went to the dog park on Saturday and Sunday. There's lots of water and still lots of dry places, so I got to run and swim. I've learned to swim so I'll retrieve sticks in deep water. Dad got a little worried when my stick drifted out into the fast current in the Mississippi and I decided I could get it... and I DID too. I met some other dogs who like to run and it was a good time... it was warm so there was a BIG dog party. I hope we get to go again soon!

Dear Diary -

I'm doing sooo good with my obedience... good dog, Czarka! I'm probably going to move up a level in a couple of weeks. Dad says he's very proud of me and that he's still waiting for me to mellow a bit... he says in about two years at this rate :-) I went to the dog park on Monday and THEN my tracking class and I met some other nice dogs... just like me. There were 3 big dogs like me; a boxer and a black lab and a GSD... and there was a little tiny white dog... but _I_ knew right away that it wasn't a squirrel... so even the little one was like me. Gooood dog. Sometimes I scare little dogs... but I'm really gentle and know not to pounce on them... it's cause I'm a little... large.

Dad made me some doggy trail mix (dog food and hot dogs and cheese) and I'd work for that forever... and he got me a new tug toy 'cause I was getting tired of my old tug (boooring!). He put in a new dog door 'cause I'd chewed on the old one... and I waited a whole 3 days to start chewing on the new one... dad mostly laughed and said 'it was worth a try' and THEN he bought one that I can't chew... we'll see about that! Good dog, Czarka!

That's mostly it... 'cept it's getting warmer now so we're back to going for a last walk before bed and I'm sooo happy. Good dog!

Talk to you later.

Dear Diary -
I am such a happy dog. Saturday I went to the dog park and found a friend that would just run and run with me. I just loved to stretch out my legs and fly! And guess what? All the ice is out of the Mississippi so I could swim... and dad taught me to fetch sticks in the water... so I carried a big stick all the way to the exit... 'cept I went running through the woods and my stick was going 'bang, thunk, crack' against all the trees. So I dropped it.

I'm going to my agility class tomorrow... I still love agility... dad says I'd be really good if I didn't have to run around seeing the other dogs too. Then it's obedience. I mostly like obedience and am pretty good. Good dog, Czarka! Good dog!

I've started some preliminary work 'cuz I'm going to start tracking next Monday. My dad is really looking forward to that 'cuz he has visions that someday I'll find lost people or something. I'm just hoping to find lost squirrels or something good to roll in.

Did I mention that I'm shedding just a bit (it's spring even in Minnesota)? I like getting brushed so everyone is mostly happy... and my folks don't seem to be too upset at fur in their yogurt :-)

That's it for now... I'll tell you how it all worked out next week.

PS I've met sooo many nice people that think I'm beautiful... and I am too. I like to have children pet me and I don't pounce on them or anything... mostly. Dad sometimes has to remind me to ' keep 4 feet on the ground, Czarka'. And sometimes I scare people 'cause I'm big and dark... and that makes me sad... but not for too long.

I went to the dog park again today with my friend, Daisy-the-lab. Somebody told my human that 'that shepherd [that's ME!] is the fastest dog she'd ever seen'. I was sooo busy flying around the park... it was almost warm and I'm sooo fast. I'm a little tired tonight. It's just great to be young and a GSD. Annnd there were lots and lots of other black dogs that would run with me and I even met my friend the St. Bernard... he likes to run with me but doesn't turn too fast :-)

When we got home, my human played with my toss ring 'cause it was warm and we had a good time... so maybe I'll be happy with just a short walk before bed... hmmmm, maybe not.

And did I mention I love to run.

Woof. I went to my obedience class this evening. Mostly I like my class... although sometimes I get distracted and my human tries to get my attention back. The teachers had this crazy idea to put toys along the line of my recall. Did I ever mention how much I love to run and come when my human calls? I am sooo fast. Did I also mention that I love toys? You know, if you run really fast AND scoop up toys as you come, you can have the best of both worlds. Next time dad pulled out the tug toy that we use for agility and I forgot all about the other toys when he said 'come' (he actually says "Ke Mně")... and I got to tug... but he says he's a little worried about what he might be teaching me :-) I don't care; it was fun.

Today I went to the dog park on the Mississippi with my friend Daisy the lab and our humans. I LOVE running in the woods and dashing up hills. It is sooo good to be a dog. Right now I'm thinking about how fast I am and how much fun it was flying through the trees and chasing other dogs and being chased and almost catching a bizillion squirrels and did I mention I can run really fast? Right now I'm just a little tired, but I sure hope we go again tomorrow.

I started my day with a fun walk. I met a couple of friends. First, there was my friend the yellow lab mix. She's about my age and I offered to play. Both of our humans had some objection to the idea of tangled leashes . So we said good-bye and agreed to bounce again soon. Then I met another friend who is a 11-year-old Golden. We agreed that playing would be fun but... you guessed it... both of our humans had some objection to the idea of tangled leashes . There were lots of rabbits out this morning. I'm sure I ALMOST caught them... at least I got as close as my dad would let me while on a six-foot leash. Did I mention that I NEVER bark at squirrels or rabbits. That would just let them know I'm coming... somehow they seem know anyway.
