Yesterday our new kitty sister Cloud came to live with us in her Furever Home! Being our home's official Welcome Waggin' I walked right up to her and gave her lots of big wet puppy kisses! Sesshy wasn't too sure what to make of her at first so he stuck by my side for the night. Mom, Big Sis and Adam kept Cloud seperated in Big Sis and Adam's room for the night but her and Sesshy kept talking to each other through the door. They seem to like to play tag at the moment and I joined in for a little bit too but those little maniacs are way too quick for me! Tomorrow is Cloud's 3rd Birthday so Mommy says that the family is going to have a special party for all of us to celebrate and to welcome her into the family!!! I hope that means a pepperoni stick for me!

Smokey took a stroke last night. It was very fast and within an hour he went from being himself to being unable to walk or focus his eyes clearly. We've given him food and he's had some water, but he can no longer hold up his head on his own. At the age of 20 (he'd be 21 in April) we've decided the best thing to do is to let him leave this world with dignity and without pain, so in two hours we are going to the vet to be with him in his final moments. We are so grateful to all our catster and dogster friends, and this wonderful community, who we know will support us in this difficult time.

Happy Valentine's Day to all my pup pals and to Dogster HQ. Thank you for the beautiful candy heart rosette HQ and for all the beautiful roses, candies, lips and hearts from my pawsome pals! Congratulations to Cherokee Cherry for winning diary of the day!!! *Big hugs and kisses* One of my favourite love poems for this special occasion:

She Walks In Beauty by Lord Byron

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

Moose: (December 24, 1990 – June 22, 2006) was a veteran canine actor. He was a Jack Russell Terrier and is most famous for his portrayal of Eddie Crane on the television sitcom Frasier.

Moose was born on Christmas Eve, 1990 in Florida, United States, the youngest littermate. He was the largest puppy in the litter.

DeCagny has been quoted as saying that Moose was very highly trainable and won the role on Frasier after only six months of training. Moose had the ability to fix Kelsey Grammer with a long hard stare; this became a running sight gag on the show.

Moose has numerous television appearances and several magazine covers to his credit. There is an official Moose calendar and an 'autobiography', My Life as a Dog, which was co-written with Brian Hargrove.

Chum: Chum was a Sealyham Terrier who was also a highly talented actress in her younger years. She loved her audience and the attention. She delighted in performing tricks and in play acting. Some of her performances included, feigning illness, "writing" a letter, "laughing" at a joke, saying her prayers, and putting her arm around the waist of a cat (who also let itself be used as part of her "bath-time" routine!). When completing her performance, Chum would sit up and "clap" to show her appreciation to the audience. In 1929, Chum performed another amazing act and earned herself a VC collar. She lived in Southsea with her owners, who had retired for the night, leaving her downstairs. They were awoken by the sound of Chum scratching at their bedroom door. The house was on fire and was quickly filling with dense smoke. The Master of the House ran into the street to call the Fire Brigade but due to smoke inhilation, his wife could not follow. She managed to crawl out of a window and onto the ledge for safety. Through the confusion that followed, Chum was nowhere to be found (although someone had reported seeing her outside and she was assumed safe). Later, when the firemen reached the main bedroom, they found a rather ash-covered Sealyham Terrier sitting patiently by her Mistress' bed. She had left the house and had dashed back to retrieve her Mistress and finding the room empty, had waited for her. Chum was badly burned and lost the sight in one of her eyes. Thankfully, she recovered after lots of nursing and love, and went back to her life as a canine actress cum hero.

Gellert (folk-tale): Beddgelert (Meaning the grave of Gelert ) was once described as "a few dozen hard grey houses ... huddled together in some majestic mountain scenery". This village, just south of Snowdon, owes its fame to the story of Prince Llewelyn ap Iorwerth who, while on a hunting trip, left his infant son in the charge of his faithful dog Gelert. On his return, the Prince was greeted by Gelert, who noticed the dog's muzzle was soaked in blood, and his son was nowhere to be seen. Llewelyn attacked the dog, and it fell to the ground gravely injured. However, within minutes he heard a cry and stumbled through nearby bushes to find his son, safe in his cradle. Beside the cradle lay the body of a giant wolf covered with wounds, the result of a fight to the death with hound Gelert. This folk-tale inspired a poem by William Robert Spencer:

Gelert

The spearmen heard the bugle sound,
And cheerily smiled the morn;
And many a brach, and many a hound
Obeyed Llewellyn's horn.
And still he blew a louder blast,
And gave a lustier cheer,
"Come, Gelert, come, wert never last
Llewellyn's horn to hear.

"O where does faithful Gelert roam
The flower of all his race;
So true, so brave - a lamb at home,
A lion in the chase?"

In sooth, he was a peerless hound,
The gift of royal John;
But now no Gelert could be found,
And all the chase rode on.

That day Llewellyn little loved
The chase of hart and hare;
And scant and small the booty proved,
For Gelert was not there.

Unpleased, Llewellyn homeward hied,
When, near the portal seat,
His truant Gelert he espied
Bounding his lord to greet.

But when he gained the castle-door,
Aghast the chieftain stood;
The hound all o'er was smeared with gore;
His lips, his fangs, ran blood.

Llewellyn gazed with fierce surprise;
Unused such looks to meet,
His favourite checked his joyful guise,
And crouched, and licked his feet.

Onward, in haste, Llewellyn passed,
And on went Gelert too;
And still, where'er his eyes he cast,
Fresh blood-gouts shocked his view.

Overturned his infant's bed he found,
With blood-stained covert rent;
And all around the walls and ground
With recent blood besprent.

He called his child - no voice replied -
He searched with terror wild;
Blood, blood he found on every side,
But nowhere found his child.

"Hell-hound! my child's by thee devoured,"
The frantic father cried;
And to the hilt his vengeful sword
He plunged in Gelert's side.

Aroused by Gelert's dying yell,
Some slumberer wakened nigh;
What words the parent's joy could tell
To hear his infant's cry!

Concealed beneath a tumbled heap
His hurried search had missed,
All glowing from his rosy sleep
The cherub boy he kissed.

No hurt had he, nor harm, nor dread,
But, the same couch beneath,
Lay a gaunt wolf, all torn and dead,
Tremendous still in death.

Ah, what was then Llewellyn's pain!
For now the truth was clear;
His gallant hound the wolf had slain
To save Llewellyn's heir.

Hachikō: In 1924, Hachikō was brought to Tokyo by his owner, Hidesamuroh Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo. During his owner's life, Hachikō saw him off from the front door and greeted him at the end of the day at the nearby Shibuya Station. Even after Ueno's death in May 1925, Hachikō returned every day to the station to wait for him, and did so for the next 10 years.

In April 1934, a bronze statue in his likeness was erected at Shibuya Station, and Hachikō himself was present at its unveiling. The statue was recycled for the war effort during World War II. After the war, Hachikō was not forgotten. In 1948 The Society for Recreating the Hachikō Statue commissioned Takeshi Ando, son of the original artist who had since died, to make a second statue. The new statue, which was erected in August 1948, still stands and is an extremely popular meeting spot. The station entrance near this statue is named "Hachikō-guchi", meaning "The Hachikō Exit", and is one of Shibuya Station's five exits.

A similar statue stands in Hachikō's hometown, in front of Odate Station. In 2004, a new statue of Hachikō was erected on the original stone pedestal from Shibuya in front of the Akita Dog Museum in Odate.

The sacred spot was not wholly disregarded or forgotten. For fourteen years the dead man's faithful dog kept constant watch and guard over the grave until his own death in 1872.

The famous Skye Terrier, Greyfriars Bobby was so devoted to his master John Gray, even in death, for fourteen years Bobby lay on the grave only leaving for food.

It is reported that a daily occurance of people from all walks of life would stand at the entrance of the Kirkyard waiting for the one o'clock gun and the appearance of Bobby leaving the grave for his midday meal.

Boss: William A. Ellerbrock was a young riverboat captain who burned to death fighting a fire on the waterfront in April, 1880. His dog, Boss, tried to save him, but both man and animal perished. The dog was buried in the casket with the Captain, and the monument erected over their graves by grateful firefighter and community organizations can still be visited. The back side of the pillar base shows Boss lying on top, protecting his master for eternity. The inscription bears these three simple and profound words:

Noticed a lot of 7 Fun Facts on the Dogster Diary and although we haven't been tagged or tagged any one yet, here are 7 fun facts about Lady:

1)I bark whenever someone knocks on the door. If it's a stranger, as soon as the door is open I have to give a routine sniff. If it is a friend, I give kisses, a good sniff and then look for a treat.

2)I like to play fight with my little cat brother, Sesshy. He keeps his claws sheathed and I am very gentle and don't use my teeth. He's a lot faster than me though, so he usually ends up the winner.

3)I am addicted to Peanutbutter. I cannot get enough of this wonderful invention. Mommy and my sis started buying no-salt, no-sugar, all-natural peanutbutter for the entire family because of this.

4)I'm scared of little dogs. Because I have been nipped at by several small dogs, I try to hide behind mommy's legs when I first meet a little dog. If they approach me in a friendly manner I give them a big kiss, if not I hide and whimper.

5)The cat eats my food. My little brother Sesshy likes to climb into my food dish and steal my dinner. Sometimes when he isn't looking I will steal his for good measure.

6)I share a water dish with the cats. My family calls this giant dish "the watering hole" because when the three of us are all drinking from it, we look like the animals in Africa that you see on National Geographic specials.

7)I LOVE the snow but I HATE the rain (weird huh?)

Us dogs have a sense of humour too! Not only do I smile for the camera, I also like to play practical jokes on my people and the cats. I have a unique quirk of "doing my business" right in the middle of the road at the crosswalk. Mom and my big sis always have a bag handy, but the attention I get makes me break out into a big grin. In the winter time, there is nothing better than playing in the snow! My sis isn't as enthusiastic about this winter wonderland as I am, so to show her how much fun the winter can be, I like to run full speed into the biggest snow bank I can find, taking her with me! On one of our many nature hikes through Oakville, we found ourselves at the top of a big hill. My sis is more cautious (and slower) than I am so I decided to take her down the fast way...I ran straight down the hill; she fell on her butt and slid 10 feet down mud and dirt. Of course I chose the clearest path, so she didn't hurt herself, after all it's all in good fun!

Today everyone woke up early to watch the Santa Claus Parade from our balcony (I don't like to be right in the middle of the crowd because loud bands and horses make me a bit nervous). I saw two of my puppy pals in the parade walking with the other Guide Dogs (they are two very beautiful poodles). I was really surprised by all the different shapes and sizes of the Guide Dogs too, not only were there labs and poodles, but there was even a jack russell and a pug too! It was really funny to see a white lab and a black lab with reindeer antlers on! (I will only wear them for a few seconds to have a photo taken and then I want them OFF). The floats were really pretty and I had my ears up the entire time listening to the music. I went outside for my morning walk just in time to see Santa on his float go by!

My big sis got me a new red and white bandana to wear to our Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on our street. I met a cute little Pug first and we exchanged greetings and I gave her a big kiss! Then a little girl I know (she's two) came over and gave me lots of pets because my fur was so soft! She stayed with me for the whole night and I gave her and her mommy lots of kisses too. I was so good I even got soup from my Mommy's good friend, Barb. My big sis also snuck me some cold cuts. I had my picture taken by the Pastor who I know from our Church barbeques in the summer (they're my favourite because EVERYONE feeds me and we have them outside so I'm invited!) I met lots of other puppies who were out with their moms and dads and lots of kids who gave me attention. I tried to kiss Santa when he walked by and I nosed a nice police man in the bum! On my way home I met a nice lady who commented on my bandana and how pretty I looked and she gave met lots of pets! When we got home I got another little treat for being so good. I had such an exciting night that I'm all tuckered out now. ZzZzZ

My big sister, Mandy, has worked at the dog groomers for almost 2 years now. Before she started her job there it took 3 people to wash me in the regular human bath tub (2 to wash me and one in the tub with me to keep me in it). Needless to say, I don't really like baths (or rain for that matter). Well, Mandy decided one day that I needed a bath (I thought I smelled very attractive after rolling around in the grass all summer thank you but my people said I was stinky). At first, I was very nervous at the groomers; there were new smells, loud noises and lots of other dogs. The little dog at the store even came up to say hi to me but I was too frightened to move! I found myself in the bath tub all covered in water and soap and I was not happy. I tried to jump out and whined a lot. But you know what, I came out smelling really nice and every one commented on how pretty I looked and how soft and shiny my coat was! I have been back there several times for my baths and to have my nails done, and now I LOVE going to visit Mandy at work (even if it is just to say hi or get a quick treat). In fact I think it's time for another visit soon!
