Today marks exactly one year since I went to the bridge. Mom can hardly believe it's been a year and neither can I! There is no sense of time here at the rainbow bridge. We are eternally young, pain-free, and having a wonderful time! It's perfect. We do miss our humans, but we know that one day we will be reunited with them.

I try and visit mom in her dreams when I can, I do hope that gives her a sense of comfort. I think it probably does! I was a lucky dog to live a long, wonderful life with my family. I wish all pups in the world could know that feeling.

The Day You Came Into My Life

The day you came into my life,
it was late winter of ‘98.
You were meant to be with me
I know for sure it was fate.

I wanted a pup and to save a life
So off to the shelter I went.
There were many to choose from that day
But I believe that you were Heaven sent.

There were big dogs, small dogs,
And many in between.
All waiting to find a furever home.
All making sure that they were seen.

Sad eyes that looked up at me,
Tails that moved from side to side.
Hoping this would be the day
That they would go for a car ride.

When I spotted you behind the fence,
You had matted and tangled fur.
No question that you were the one
Of this I was 100% sure.

I could not take you home that day
Three days was how long I had to wait.
When I returned to adopt you -
I thought I was too late.

Another man was there as well
He wanted you for his mother’s pet.
This couldn’t be happening
I suddenly felt very sad and upset.

Just when I thought I couldn’t have you
The man told me I could be the one
If I promised to give you a good home
And of course love you a ton.

To this I wholeheartedly agreed
It was surely meant to be!
You left the shelter that winter morning
Becoming a part of our family.

Sugar, all of those years
You gave us so much love
Fate stepped in to bring you to us
You were sent from Heaven above.

You left us not so long ago
Your body was tired and frail
I long to kiss your fluffy face
And smile at your wagging tail.

Adopting a pet is wonderful
It’s the best thing you can do
You’ll be saving a life, and
Finding the right dog just for you.

Please love and help a dog
To find a better way....
Your own life will be much richer
And you’ll look forward to each new day. ♄

Beyond The Rainbow

As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.

I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful -- lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.

I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I'm alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright Glow pierced the night.
'Twas the Glow of many Candles shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.

For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord no eye can see.
So whenever you need to find me, we're never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.

I’m Still Here

Friend, please don't mourn for me,

I'm still here, though you don't see.

I'm right by your side each night and day,

And within your heart I long to stay.

My body is gone but I'm always near,

I'm everything you feel, see or hear.

My spirit is free, but I'll never depart,

As long as you keep me alive in your heart.

I'll never wander out of your sight.

I'm the brightest star on a summer night.

I'll never be beyond your reach.

I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.

I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around,

And the pure white snow that blankets the ground.

I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond,

The clear cool water in a quiet pond.

I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring,

The first warm raindrop that April will bring.

I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,

And you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.

When you start thinking there's no one to love you,

You can talk to me through the Lord above you.

I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,

And you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.

I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep,

And the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.

I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.

Just look for me, friend, I'm everyplace!

When I am gone, release me, let me go
I have so many things to see and do
You mustn’t tie yourself to me in tears,
Be happy that we had so many years

I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it’s time I travelled on alone

So grieve a while for me if grieve you must,
Then let your grieve be comforted by trust,
It’s only for a while that we must part,
So bless the memories within our hearts.

I won’t be far away, for life goes on
So if you ever need me, call and I will come.
Though you can’t see or touch me I will be near
And if you listen with your heart, you will hear
All my love around you soft and clear.
And then, when you must come this way alone
I’ll greet you with a smile and “welcome you home”

I want to share the story of how I came to my wonderful home. Once upon a time, almost 11 years ago to be exact... I was found running the streets. My fur was a long and tangled mess. No one knows how long I had been on the streets, or how I was surviving. Animal control picked me up and took me to the pound. There I sat, nervous and afraid. The cold concrete didn't feel very good, and the constant barking from the countless other dogs didn't help me feel any better. Thankfully, I wasn't there very long when a few people started noticing me through the chain link fence! In fact, they were told by the pound employees that they would have to come back in three days if they wanted to adopt me. Law says I had to remain there for 72 hours in case any owners showed up to claim me. They never did. Mom and my youngest human sister were two of those people that showed with lots of interest. I'll never forget mom, she saw me and stopped at the fence, bent down on her knees and smiled. Even though I looked pretty messy and my fur was beyond snarled, she saw my big, brown eyes and knew there was something special about me! She called me over to the fence, so I came. How could I resist attention like that? I put my paw through the fence and nudged for her to pet me, which she did! Little sister pet me too. Wow, did it ever feel great to have people focusing on me! Maybe they could even get me out of this place. Mom and sister continued to play with me and spoke soothing words to me. Boy, it was almost enough to make me forget how bad life on the streets had been. I kept think - maybe these nice people would get me out ASAP! I was so anxious, I wagged my tail nonstop, and I kept licking mom and sister continuously. But then, they left! Why did they leave? For the next two days, I was sad. I couldn't get out of that fenced in area! Many people stopped and admired me, but they didn't get me out. Finally, that nice lady and her kid came back (mom and sister) and they were told by the pound employees that someone else wanted me to! It was a gentleman, who wanted to give me to his elderly mother. Oh boy, what a situation to be in - scruffy looking me was wanted by two different families! I wondered what would happen. They were going to flip a coin for me, but it didn't happen because the gentleman was nice enough to let mom take me home! He said if mom promised to give me a wonderful home, he would let her have me and forfit the coin toss. Mom was so happy, and so was I! The pound employee then came to unlock the caged area where I had been living uncomfortably for the past 72 hours. Was I ever happy! Mom had a leash in her hand and a huge smile on her face. I was getting out of there! Mom signed some papers first, then took the leash and put it on me. I kissed her and sister over and over, and I don't think my tail stopped wagging until we got to the car. While in the car, I immediately jumped on mom's lap and stayed there until we got to my new furever home. Mom didn't have the heart to move me! When I got to my new home, I sniffed and sniffed and investigated all over. I went outside in my new big backyard (which was fenced) and ran around, sniffed and got to know my new surroundings. It was wonderful! I later met another human sister and my dad. What a great family! They all gave me so much love and attention. Life was never better! I soon forgot all about the hardship of running on the streets. I was taken to the groomer that week and mom couldn't believe how much smaller I was without all of the fur. BOL!
Fast forward 11 years until the present time. I now share my family with Peanut, who has been in my life for 10 years now, and Bambi - who has been in my life for 4 years. We three dogs have a wonderful, wonderful life. We are treated the way ALL dogs should be treated. If I had a wish, it would be for every single dog on earth to have what I have...... a loving home with a loving family. That is what we all deserve! I hope I am fortunate enough to live many more years with my family. I know if I died tomorrow, I'd be happy. I'd be thankful for the happy years I have had with them! If you want a faithful and loving pet, please consider adopting from a shelter/pound/rescue foundation today! You'll never regret it.

'Tis the night before Christmas and all through the town,
Every shelter is full. We are lost but not found.
Our numbers are hung on our kennels so bare,
We hope every minute that someone will care.

They'll come to adopt us and give us the call,
"Come here, Max and Sparkie ~ come fetch your new ball!"
But now we just sit here and think of the days.....
We were treated so fondly ~ we had baby ways.

Once we were little, then we grew and we grew ~
Now we're no longer young, and we're no longer new.
So out the back door we were thrown like trash,
They reacted so quickly ~ why were they so rash?

We "jump on the children," "don't come when they call",
We "bark when they leave us," "climb over the wall."
We should have been neutered, we should have been spayed,
Wow we suffer the consequence of the error they made.

If only they'd trained us, if only we knew...
We'd have done what they asked us and worshipped them, too.
We were left in back yard, or worse ~ left to roam...
Now we're tired and lonely and out of a home.

They dropped us off here and they kissed us good-by....
"Maybe someone else will give you a try."
So now here we are, all confused and alone....
In a shelter with others who long for a home.

The kind workers come through with a meal and a pat,
With so many to care for, they can't stay to chat.
They move to the next kennel, giving each of us cheer....
We know that they wonder how long we'll be here.

We lay down to sleep and sweet dreams fill our heads....
Of a home filled with love and our own cozy beds.
Then we wake to see sad eyes, brimming with tears ~
Our friends filled with emptiness, worry and fear.

If you can't adopt us and there's no room at your inn ~
Could you help with the bills and fill our food bin?
We count on your kindness each day of the year ~
Can you give more than hope to everyone here?

Unfortunately, it'll probably turn warm again before fall really settles in. There have been many Thanksgivings' where mom remembers it being very warm outside! I guess there are pros and cons to living in a warm climate. But, I know I would LOVE to have four seasons! So, here's hoping it'll be a chilly winter. Maybe we'll even get some snow!

Here is a poem I wrote to express how I feel about our warm temps now that it's fall, and almost October....

It's fall you say?
Well, I wouldn't know
The temp is 90
and the wind won't blow

It's as still as a mouse
and hot as can be
Yet it's almost October
it's autumn you see

The leaves should be changing
the nights should be cold
It's the time to snuggle in blankets
or so I'm told

I'm mopey, I'm hot
I need the A/C
I can't stay out long
while in the yard to pee

So please Mother Nature
give me a break
Give me cooler temps
for dogness sake!

Hi! I want to share the story of how I came to my wonderful home. Once upon a time, 10 years ago to be exact... I was found running the streets. My fur was long and a tangled mess. Law says I had to remain there for 72 hours incase any owners showed up to claim me. They never did. Mom and my youngest human sister were two of those people that showed lots of interest. Mom and sister continued to play with me and speak soothing words to me. Boy, it was almost enough to make me forget how bad life on the streets had been. Maybe these nice people would get me out ASAP! BOL!
Fast forward 10 years until the present time. I now share my family with Peanut, who has been in my life for 9 years now, and Bambi - who has been in my life for 3 years. We three dogs have a wonderful, wonderful life. We are treated the way ALL dogs should be treated. If I had a wish, it would be for every single dog on earth to have what I have...... a loving home with a loving family. That is what we all deserve! I hope I am fortunate enough to live another 10 years with my family. I know if I died tomorrow, I'd be happy. I'd be thankful for the many happy years I have had with them! If you want a faithful and loving pet, please consider adopting from a shelter/pound/rescue foundation today! You'll never regret it.

I was quite tickled when I learned that my page was mentioned in the latest Dogster newsletter. Yes, it's true! Actually Bambi was mentioned too. 5 Dogster pages were mentioned as this week's picks, and that we've decked out profiles for spring. Here is the list:

1. Sir Snickers Alot, Chihuahua
2. Sugar, Lhaso Apso/Yorkie
3. Zoe Kennedy, Shetland Sheepdog
4. Jack Warfel, Treeing Walker Coonhound
5. Bambi, Chihuahua

Thanks you for noticing my page, HQ! It was fun being recognized. And thanks to the pals that noticed and sent pmails and pretties for my page. =)

In honor of spring, here is a fun poem...

Spring
Karla Kuskin

I'm shouting
I'm singing
I'm swinging through trees
I'm winging sky-high
With the buzzing black bees.
I'm the sun
I'm the moon
I'm the dew on the rose.
I'm a rabbit
Whose habit
Is twitching his nose.
I'm lively
I'm lovely
I'm kicking my heels.
I'm crying "Come dance"
To the freshwater eels.
I'm racing through meadows
Without any coat
I'm a gamboling lamb
I'm a light leaping goat
I'm a bud
I'm a bloom
I'm a dove on the wing.
I'm running on rofftops
And welcoming spring!

Holiday Etiquette for Dogs

1. Be especially patient with your humans during this time. They may appear to be more stressed-out than usual and they will appreciate long comforting dog leans.

2. They may come home with large bags of things they call gifts. Do not assume that all the gifts are yours.

3. Be tolerant if your humans put decorations on you. They seem to get some special kind of pleasure out of seeing how you look with fake antlers.

4. They may bring a large tree into the house and set it up in a prominent place and cover it with lights and decorations. Bizarre as this may seem to you, it is an important ritual for your humans, so there are some things you need to know:

- - don't pee on the tree
- - don't drink water in the container that holds the tree
- - mind your tail when you are near the tree
- - if there are packages under the tree, even ones that smell interesting or that have your name on them, don't rip them open
- - don't chew on the cord that runs from the funny-looking hole in the wall to the tree

5. Your humans may occasionally invite lots of strangers to come visit during this season. These parties can be lots of fun, but they also call for some discretion on your part:

- - not all strangers appreciate kisses and leans
- - don't eat off the buffet table
- - beg for goodies subtly
- - be pleasant, even if unknowing strangers sit on your sofa
- - don't drink out of glasses that are left within your reach.

6. Likewise, your humans may take you visiting. Here your manners will also be important:

- -observe all the rules in #4 for trees that may be in other people's houses.
- - respect the territory of other animals that may live in the house
- - tolerate children
- - turn on your charm big time.

7. A big man with a white beard and a very loud laugh may emerge from your fireplace in the middle of the night. DON'T BITE HIM!!

3. Your hairdresser only washes and cuts the hair on your head.

2. You don't bite or scratch your hairdresser. (I hope not anyway).

DOG HAIKUS

I love my master;
Thus I perfume myself with
This long-rotten squirrel.

I sound the alarm!
Paperboy - come to kill us all -
Look! Look! Look! Look!

I lift my leg and
Anoint each bush. Hello, Spot -
Sniff this and weep.

I lie belly-up
In the sunshine, happier than
You will ever be.

Today I sniffed many
Doggie derrieres - and I celebrate
By kissing your face.

My human is home!
I am so ecstatic I
Have made a puddle.

Behold my choke chain -
Look, world, they strangle me!
Ack! Ack! Ack! Ack!

Sleeping here, my chin
On your foot -no greater bliss -
Well, maybe catching rats. . .

Dig under fence-why?
Because it's there. Because it's
There. Because it's there.

My owners' mood is
Romantic - I lie near their
Feet, expelling much gas.

How do I love thee?
The ways are numberless as
My hairs on the rug.

I am your best friend,
Now, always, and especially
When you are eating.

Look in my eyes and
Deny it. No human could
Love you so much.

There are different ideas as to where or how the celebration of Valentine's Day began.

The Roman's celebrated a festival called Lupercalia on February 15. This festival was held to ward off the danger of wolves to their flocks and honored their God Lupercalia. This is one idea. The Christian Church had two Saints named Valentine and two other ideas center around them. The Roman Emperor, Claudius the II forbade young men to marry in 200 A.D. He believed single men made better soldiers, free of family concerns. A priest named Valentine disobeyed the Emperor and married couples in secret. The next Saint Valentine was a lover of children but, was imprisoned when he would not honor other gods. The children missed him and wrote messages of affection to him. They threw their notes through the bars of his cell. This may
have been the beginning of exchanging messages. He was executed on February 14, 269 A.D. Pope Gelasius in 496 A.D. named February 14th, Valentine's Day, after him. The fourth idea concerning the celebration of Valentine's Day is based on the belief that birds or fowl pick their mates on February 14th. It was believed love birds in particular, chose this day to begin mating.

The modern day celebration of Valentine's Day seems to have begun in France and England. On Valentines Eve young people would gather and pick names becoming a valentine to whose ever name they chose.

Cupid, Doves, Love Birds, Roses, Hearts and Arrows are all symbols of the Valentine's Day Holiday. Cupid was the symbol for the Roman God of Love.

Five Little Pumpkin Sitting On A Gate

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate,
The first one said,
"Oh my, it's getting late."
The second one said,
"But we don't care."
The third one said,
"I see witches in the air."
The fourth one said,
"Let's run, and run, and run."
The fifth one said,
"Get ready for some fun."
Then whoosh went the wind,
and out went the lights,
And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

Spooks
- by Sandra Liatsos

There's a goblin at my window,
A monster by my door.
The pumpkin at my table
Keeps on smiling more and more.
There's a ghost who haunts my bedroom,
A witch whose face is green.
They used to be my family,
Till they dressed for Halloween.

Walk Into My Parlor
- by Mary Howitt

"Will you walk into my parlor?"
said the spider to the fly;
"Tis the prettiest little parlor that you ever did spy.
The way into my parlor is up a winding stair,
And I have many curious things to show when you are there."
"Oh no, no!" said the little fly,
"to ask me is in vain;
For who goes up your winding stair
can never come down again."

Halloween
- by Mary Jane Carr

Witches flying past on broomsticks,
Black cats leaping here and there,
White-robed spooks on every corner,
Mournful moaning in the air,

Goblins peering out of windows,
Spirit-things that rap and run-
But don't be scared-it's just October,
Having one last hour of fun!

Haunted House
- by Jack Prelutsky

There's a house upon the hilltop
We will not go inside
For that is where the witches live,
Where ghosts and goblins hide.

Tonight they have their party,
All the lights are burning bright,
But oh we will not go inside
The haunted house tonight.

The demons there are whirling
And the spirits swirl about.
They sing their songs to Halloween.
"Come join the fun," they shout.

But we do not want to go there
So we run with all our might
And oh we will not go inside
The haunted house tonight.

The Scariest Thing
- by Mairi Tereas Gallagher

Some things are scary
Others are not,
Like ghosts and goblins,
And things that rot

Cats and dogs are not scary
At all,
All they do is play chase
And catch a ball.

But the scariest thing
Creeps around at night,
Looking for victims
To scratch and bite.

It hides its face
It's too ugly to see,
It rules all the monsters,
Both tall and wee.

Those who've seen his face,
Their eyes burst and bleed,
They beg for mercy
"Spare us, spare us," they plead.

But he's not a giver
He takes what he finds,
All sorts of people
Both sightseers and blind.

You've got the picture,
That he is the king
Of everything scary,
Every little scary thing.

So watch out at night 'cause if
By him you're seen,
He'll give you an evil grin
And say...

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

We Will Never Forget September 11, 2001
CAROL ANN SMITH, NEW BEDFORD

The day was calm, the sky was blue,
The sun was high up in the sky,
Without a warning, without a clue,
America now would start to cry.
The shock and horror of that day,
Will never leave our minds,
We cling together as we pray,
To leave all this behind.
As Americans, we all know,
That we can never forget,
This terrible time of grief and woe,
But still we have respect.
Respect for our country, respect for our life,
Will be so important today,
We must remember through this strife,
To bow our heads and pray.
To pray for unity, to pray alone,
To light our candles along the way
To look up where the flames have flown,
GOD BLESS THE USA!

America's Broken Heart
LAUREN R. O'JEA, DARTMOUTH

I sing the song of deep tragedy
A song of loss, despair, betrayal
I sing the song of September 11th
The day America's heart was torn
I sing the terror of realization
I sing the panic of running to live
I sing the song of an abandoned dream
I sing of the shattered hope
Of a widowed bride
I sing the confusion and anger of an orphaned child
I sing the sorrow of losing a lifelong friend
To heartless terror
I sing for the emptiness in our skyline --
-- I sing for our bruised apple
I sing the chilling images that haunt our country
I sing for the hope that we will recover
And once again grow and live
And sing.

September 11
© By Jessie E. Freeman

Do you remember that summer day,
When in the blink of an eye,

The sky turned from blue to gray?
What were you doing,

Do you even remember?
What were you doing on that day of September?

Do you remember when they took away,
The innocence on that horrible day?

America was changed in so many ways,
Today we remember the horrible day.

Days of suffering,
Days of sorrow,

We couldn't bare the thought of tomorrow.
People left their families to go to war,

Do you think of those people?
The families it tore?

So I say,
To you today,

United we stand,
We'll never fall,

That's why we are,
The greatest country of all!

9-11 Tribute
© By Keifer J. Pesola

The flames are out, the debris is cleared...
From that day that we all feared...
To remember those who died that day...
We showed our American pride in many ways...
We hung out the flags and made donations...
To show our pride for our nation...
American slogans written on cars...
Sympathy came from near and far...
Volunteered our time to those we'd never met...
Hoping to aid in the worry and fret...
We lit candles with neighbors and friends...
Showing our pride just wouldn't end...
Red, White, and Blue was seen everywhere...
Where have they gone, it just isn't fair...
Is it that people just no longer care...
Are they no longer saying those prayers...
Are all of the flags stuck under the bed...
Did they forget about all who are dead...
American husbands, daughters, and sons are still fighting...
So why are the candles no longer lighting...
Flags went out of stock in every store...
Now they're no longer hanging by each door...
The war is not over, their still fighting for us...
So few show the colors, is it too much too much of a fuss...
So if you're one who has put your flag away...
Remember our soldiers are still fighting each day...
So take out the Red, White, and Blue and fly it high... For the soldiers at war that still may die...
Our patriotism should have only just begun...
Do not forget who they are and what they've done...
September 11 will stay in our hearts forever, and so should our pride...
AMERICANS RAISE THOSE FLAGS HIGH

A TRIP TO THE CINEMA

A man goes into a cinema with his dog to watch a film. It's a romantic comedy and when there's a funny scene, the dog starts laughing. A little later on there's a sad part and suddenly the dog starts crying.

This goes on throughout the entire film, laughing and crying at all the right places. A man sitting a few rows back has witnessed the entire thing and decides to follow the man out.
In the foyer, he approaches the dog owner and says, "That's truly amazing!"

"It certainly is" The dog owner replied, "He hated the book!"

THE FIRE DOG

A nursery school teacher was delivering a station wagon full of kids home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the fire truck was a Dalmation dog.

The children started discussing what the dog's duties might be.

"They use him to keep crowds back," said one youngster.

"No," said another, "he's just for good luck."

A third child concluded. "No silly, they use the dogs to find the fire hydrant!"

Do I Go Home Today?

My family brought me home
cradled in their arms.
They cuddled me and smiled at me,
and said I was full of charm.

They played with me and laughed with me,
they showered me with toys.
I sure do love my family
especially the girls and boys.

The children loved to feed me,
they gave me special treats.
They even let me sleep with them
all snuggled in the sheets.

I used to go for walks,
often several times a day.
They even fought to hold my leash,
I'm very proud to say.

These are things I'll never forget
a cherished memory.
I now live in a shelter
without my family.

They used to laugh and praise me
when I played with that old shoe.
But I didn't know the difference
between the old ones and the new.

The kids and I would grab a rag
for hours we would tug.
So I thought I did the right thing
when I chewed the bathroom rug.

They said that I was out of control,
and would have to live outside.
This I did not understand
although I tried and tried.

The walks stopped, one by one;
they said they hadn't time.
I wish that I could change things,
I wish I knew my crime.

My life became so lonely,
in the back yard on a chain.
I barked and barked all day long
to keep from going insane.

So they brought me to the shelter
but were embarrassed to say why.
They said I caused an allergy,
and then, kissed me goodbye.

If I'd only had some classes,
as a little pup
I wouldn't have been so hard to handle
when I was all grown up.

"You only have one day left,"
I heard the worker say.
Does this mean a second chance?
Do I go home today?

My sweet Sugar,

In 1998, I went to our local Humane Society and saw you right away. You were scruffy and dirty, but you ran up to the fence and wagged your tail. You licked my hand through the fence and looked at me with your human-like eyes. I fell in love! I asked about adopting you, but was told you had just been brought in, so I'd have to wait 3 days to adopt you in case your owners came looking for you. Three days later, I came back and you were still there. But, there was a catch. Another person was very interesting in adopting you, so we were told a coin would be tossed and the winner could adopt you. The other person was an middle-age gentleman who was looking to adopt you for his elderly parent. The man saw us (me and my youngest daughter) and said that if we promised to give you a good home, he would forgo the coin toss and let us adopt you. Of course I told him we'd give you a loving home! The man left and we adopted you! It was one of the happiest days ever. You sat on my lap the whole way home, you weren't shy at all! We gave you a bath, got you groomed and wow! What a lovely girl.

You are quite the watch dog, Sugar. Very protective. You would never hurt anyone, though. You are independent, yet very playful. You like your space and we give it to you. Other times, you want to be right next to us.

You are 9-years-old now, yet you are extremely active. I see you acting like this for many more years to come. You like to nap, but you sure love to play with your toys and bark at the neighbor dogs along the back fence. Young at heart is what you are!

Sugar, you have been a wonderful addition to our family. We are so happy you came to live with us that Spring day in 1998. We hope and pray you will be around for several more years, sweetheart!

Love forever and ever,
Mom

"RESCUE POEM"
Arlene Pace
September 18, 1998

Once I was a lonely dog,
Just looking for a home.
I had no place to go,
No one to call my own.
I wandered up and down the streets,
in rain in heat and snow.
I ate what ever I could find,
I was always on the go.
My skin would itch, my feet were sore,
My body ached with pain.
And no one stopped to give a pat
Or a gently say my name.
I never saw a loving glance,
I was always on the run.
For people thought that hurting me
was really lots of fun.
And then one day I heard a voice
So gentle, kind and sweet,
And arms so soft reached down to me
And took me off my feet.
“No one again will hurt you”
Was whispered in my ear.
“You’ll have a home to call your own
where you will know no fear”
“You will be dry, you will be warm,
you’ll have enough to eat”
“And rest assured that when you sleep,
your dreams will all be sweet”.
I was afraid I must admit,
I’ve lived so long in fear.
I can’t remember when I let
A human come so near.
And as she tended to my wounds
And bathed and brushed my fur
She told me ‘bout the rescue group
And what it meant to her.
She said, ”We are a circle,
A line that never ends”.
“And in the center there is you
protected by new friends”.

“And all around you are
the ones that check the pounds,
And those that share their home
after you’ve been found”.
“And all the other folk
are searching near and far”.
“To find the perfect home for you,
where you can be a star”.
She said, “There is a family,
that’s waiting patiently,
and pretty soon we’ll find them,
just you wait and see”.
“And then they’ll join our circle
they’ll help to make it grow,
so there’ll be room for more like you,
who have no place to go”.
I waited very patiently,
The days they came and went.
Today’s the day I thought,
my family will be sent.
Then just when I began to think
It wasn’t meant to be,
there were people standing there
just gazing down at me.
I knew them in a heart beat,
I could tell they felt it too.
They said, “We have been waiting
for a special dog like you”.
Now every night I say a prayer
to all the Gods that be.
“Thank you for the life I live
and all you’ve given me”.
“But most of all protect the dogs
in the pound and on the street”.
“And send a Rescue Person
to lift them off their feet”.

Gee mom, why have you let so much time go by when it comes to dictating my diary?? I always have so much to bark about! =)

Last week, Bob and I ~finally~ won DCOTW! It was well worth the wait. I feel like Dogster royalty since winning. BOL

Mom entered my picture in the "Pet Poetry Group" Easter picture contest. You can find the picture on my first page. She also made pictures for Peanut and Sugar. Maybe one of us will win!

I'm helping Bambi get ready for her upcoming wedding to Tama. They will get hitched (on Dogster) on Friday, March 17th - which is St. Patrick's day! It's going to be great, I'm Bambi's maid-of-honor.

I've grown used to my new haircut, most of my fur is gone, but, it sort of feels good to get rid of all that fur. On chilly days, mom puts my sweater on so I won't get too cold. I do hope it'll be a long, long time before I have to go back to the groomers!

I guess that is about it for now. Take care, pals!

Oh, the horror of it all - I'm going to the dog groomer tomorrow! I have never been a fan of going to the groomer. I get extremely nervous when I go, no matter how nice they are to me, I just don't like it.

Mom let me have long fur for most of the fall and winter, but now it's time to clean me up (she says). I think my long fur is very becoming, I don't see what the problem is? I know I'll smell prettier and I'll get fancy bows on my ears or a pretty bandana around my neck...but who cares! Mom does, that's who.

So, wish me lots of luck tomorrow! I'll need it. ::gulp::

Over and out.

It's my first bark of the new year! In fact, we're almost halfway through January. Before we know it, Valentine's day will be here! Check out my primary picture - it's of me and my love, Bob. ♥

Mom still hasn't had a chance to take me to the groomer. She isn't home much these days because of grandma being sick and all. It's too sad to get into here, we try and keep our minds off of it by staying cheerful at Dogster. It helps a lot.

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned....the groomer can wait! I like my fur long, shaggy and in my eyes. It gives me character!

Bark at you all again real soon! =)

To all of the people who get up in the middle of the night the day after Thanksgiving to hit the sales early.......just what are you thinking? BOL! Mom and dad did that a couple of times in the past and vowed to never do it again. Sure you may save some bucks here and there on stuff, but is it really worth it getting up so early and fighting the pushing and shoving crowds? Standing in long, long lines to check out? Nope, they don't think so. It's a good thing I don't have to worry about these things!

As for what I'd like for Christmas. Well, I'd be happy with a new squeeky toy that Bambi doesn't hog. Maybe a new bone or two! I'm not picky. Just being with my family is what matters most to me.

Mom put my head in a turkey's stomach? Thanks ever so much, mom. BOL! Okay, it's a good thing I have a sense of humor. As soon as Thanksgiving day passes, this picture has got to go!

My fur is getting so long, I am due for a grooming appointment, but luckily mom has procrastinated with that one. I don't mind the fur, although it is getting harder to see with the stray fur hanging down in my eyes. Guess that is the Yorkie in me!

I got a new toy the other day, it's a black & white zebra print tug-of-war thingy. Bambi tried to steal it (like always), so mom hid it from her. B thinks all of the toys belong to her. I don't think so!!

I'm out of things to say for now. Love to all of my dogster pals, and especially to my beloved Bob. ♥ ♥ ♥

It's Tuesday and life is still treating me very well. Not much to complain about. Well, one thing I can complain about is Bambi. The girl never wants to let anyone sleep! When I say anyone, I mean Peanut and I. Whenever we are trying to take a snooze, there is Bambi barking in our faces. Gee, give it a rest, youngen! We aren't as young as you and we like to thoroughly enjoy our naps in peace. Zzzzzzzz.

I'm so honored that Bob put up the photo I made for him as his primary dogster picture! What a doll. He is my guardian angel, so I thought it was only fitting that it should be pointed out. Love, love, love you, Bob!! ♥

The funniest thing happened this morning. Peanut, Bambi and I were all in our play mode. We each had a squeeky toy, biting and running around with it. Then Bambi started squeeking hers over and over, that got me doing it, soon enough Peanut joined in! This is what mom heard: "Squeek, squeek, squeek, squeek, squeek, squeek, squeek, squeek." It was hilarious! She went to grab the video camera, but by the time she got it....we weren't doing it anymore! Too bad, because it was priceless. We were making doggy music together. Good times, good times.

Mom says I need a haircut real soon! It's been awhile since I've been groomed. I'm not too thrilled about this. I used to hate going at Petsmart, they weren't so nice to me there, so mom stopped taking me. Now she takes me to a privately owned business ran by a nice lady. She treats me good, but I still hate the whole procedure. ::sigh::

Until next time, pals!

I was working in the lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an awesome sight
For my dog from his bed began to rise
And suddenly to my surprise

She did the mash
She did the Dogster mash
The Dogster mash
It was a boneyard smash
She did the mash
It caught on in a flash
She did the mash
She did the Dogster mash

From my laboratory in the castle east
To the doggys bedroom where the doggys feast
The cats all came from their humble abodes
To get a jolt from my electrodes

They did the mash
They did the Dogster mash
The Dogster mash
It was a boneyard smash
They did the mash
It caught on in a flash
They did the mash
They did the Dogster mash

The doggys were having fun
The party had just begun
The guests included Wolf Man
Dracula and his son

The scene was rockin', all were digging the sounds
Igor on chains, backed by his baying hounds
The coffin-bangers were about to arrive
With their vocal group, "The Crypt-Kicker Five"

They played the mash
They played the Dogster mash
The Dogster mash
It was a boneyard smash
They played the mash
It caught on in a flash
They played the mash
They played the Dogster mash

Out from his coffin, Drac's voice did ring
Seems he was troubled by just one thing
He opened the lid and shook his fist
And said, "Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist?"

It's now the mash
It's now the Dogster mash
The Dogster mash
And it's a boneyard smash
It's now the mash
It's caught on in a flash
It's now the mash
It's now the Dogster mash

Now everything's cool, Drac's a part of the band
And my Dogster mash is the hit of the land
For you, the dogs, this mash was meant too
When you get to my door, tell them Sugar sent you

Then you can mash
Then you can Dogster mash
The Dogster mash
And do my boneyard smash
Then you can mash
You'll catch on in a flash
Then you can mash
Then you can Dogster mash

Bob and I are so honored that our 'couple' picture was chosen as the winner in Snuggles' contest. It's the third picture on my dogster page. Bob told me about it first in dogmail, then I read about it in Snuggles' post on the Dogster Crushes forum. Thanks, Snuggles, for choosing us! :^)

Mom is feeling better today. So glad! It's no fun around here when she isn't feeling like herself. ♥ ♥

One more week until Halloween! I like to bark whenever the doorbell rings, so mom thinks she might have to put Peanut and I outside for awhile when the trick-or-treaters come, unless we can behave ourselves. Bambi is scared of being outdoors in the dark (little chicken), so she gets to stay indoors no matter what. I don't think that is very fair! ::pout:: Oh well, it's not up to me, unfortunately. If I can sustain myself from barking too much, I will stay indoors. The trouble is, can I?!?!?! So much temptation....

Later, pals! :)

Sugar walks warily down the street,
with the collar pulled way down low
Ain't no sound but the sound of her paws,
she's so ready to go

Are you ready,
Are you ready for this
Are you hanging on the edge of your seat
Out of the box the bones fall
To the sound of the beat

Another one bites the bone
Another one bites the bone
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the bone
Hey, I'm gonna get some too
Another one bites the bone

How do you think I'm going to get more bones,
without help, when they're gone
I took some for everyone that I knew,
Dogs everywhere all over my front lawn

Are you happy, are you satisfied
How long can you stand to wait
Out of the box the bones fall
To the sound of the beat

Chorus

Another one bites the bone
Another one bites the bone
Another one bites the bone
Another one bites the bone

There are plenty of snacks you can give a dog
And really make her smile
You can feed her
You can feed her
you can treat her, feed and feed her
Give her a huge bone pile
But I'm ready, yes I'm ready for more
I'm standing on my own four paws
Out of the box the bones fall
repeating the sound of the beat

Here we go again, dogs. Sorry, but mom is in control here! BOL

As I walk through the tiles of the kitchen floor
I take a look at my food bowl and realize there's no more
Cause I've been crunchin' and munchin' so long that
Even my mama knows that my dog food is gone

But I ain't never crossed a dog that didn't deserve it
Me be treated like a diva, you know that's good
You better watch how much you eating, and where you walking
Or you and your dawgs might also be without food

They been spending most their days
Living in the Dogsta's Paradise
They been spending most their time
Living in the Dogsta's Paradise

We keep spending most our lives
Living in the Dogsta's Paradise
We keep spending most our time
Living in the Dogsta's Paradise

Look at the situation, they got me facin'
I can live a normal life, I was raised by the best
So I gotta be down with the dogster team
Too much dog food commercial watchin' got me chasin dreams

I'm a educated pooch wit dog food on my mind
Got my bowl in my hand and a gleam in my eye
I'm a loc'ed out Dogsta, bone-trippin' dawg
And my bones is gone, so don't arouse my hunger, dawg

Hunger ain't nuthin but a stomach growl away
I'm wantin more food ah, what can I say?
I'm starving now, but will I make it 'til the next feeding?
The way things is goin I don't know

Tell me why are we -- always hungry for more grub
That the bones we crave -- aren't for you and me, bub

They been spending most their days
Living in the Dogsta's Paradise
They been spending most their time
Living in the Dogsta's Paradise

We keep spending most our lives
Living in the Dogsta's Paradise
We keep spending most our time
Living in the Dogsta's Paradise

Kibbles and the bits, cheddar and the bacon
Morsel after morsel, it's all for the takin'
Everybody's hungry, but half of them dogs ain't lookin
It's goin on in the kitchen, but I dont know what's cookin

They say I got ta learn, but nobody's wantin to teach me
If they cant understand it, how can they keep feeding me?
I guess they can't -- I guess they won't
I guess they frontin; that's why I know my bowl is outta luck, dawg

They been spending most their days
Living in the Dogsta's Paradise
They been spending most their time
Living in the Dogsta's Paradise

We keep spending most our lives
Living in the Dogsta's Paradise
We keep spending most our time
Living in the Dogsta's Paradise

Tell me why are we -- always hungry for more grub
That the bones we crave -- aren't for you and me, bub

Bwahahaha!!!!! Mom, enough already. If you didn't know already, that was a revised version of "Gangsta's Paradise" by Coolio.

Hoping to hear from my love, Bob, real soon! It's been awhile, but I know he is busy frolicking and having fun on the rainbow bridge. Luv ya, Bob! ÂąÂŸ

Mom is so goofy, she rewrote this song for me:

My milkbones brings all the dogs to the yard,
And their like
It's better than yours,
Darn right it's better than yours,
I can give ya a bone,
But I have to charge

I know you want one,
The thing that makes them,
What the dogs go crazy for.
They wag their tails,
The way they taste,
I think its time

[Chorus x2]
La la-la la la,
Dig it up.
Lala-lalala,
The dogs are waiting

My milkbones brings all the dogs to the yard,
And their like
It's better than yours,
Darn right it's better than yours,
I can give ya a bone,
But I have to charge

I can see you want one,
You want me to give a bone to thee
Tastes that freaks these dogs,
It can't be bought,
Just know, thieves get caught,
Watch if your smart,

[Chorus x2]
La la-la la la,
Dig it up,
La la-la la la,
The dogs are waiting,

My milkbones brings all the dogs to the yard,
And their like
It's better than yours,
Darn right it's better than yours,
I can give ya a bone,
But I have to charge

Oh, once you get involved,
Everydog will look this way-so,
You must maintain your charm,
Same time maintain your halo,
Just get the perfect taste,
Plus what you have within,
Then who know where the bones went,
Then they've picked up the bones' scent,

[Chorus x2]
Lala-lalala,
Dig it up,
Lala-lalala,
The dogs are waiting,

My milkbones brings all the dogs to the yard,
And their like
It's better than yours,
Darn right it's better than yours,
I can give ya a bone,
But I have to charge

After all of this time on dogster and I'm finally writing my very first diary entry! Why you ask? Because mom decided Peanut and I should speak up like Bambi does (the little princess). I always disagreed, but then decided that maybe some of my pals would enjoy reading my diary entries. I can't always promise they will be that exciting, but here goes anyway.

So today is Friday. It's just another day for me, though. Every day is like Friday in my life! I am a happy and content dog, what can I say? Life couldn't get much better. Well, it could if that yippy little sister of mine would quit being a toy and bone hog all of the time. She thinks everything is hers. Wrong, Bambi, wrong! I know you're still young and all, but the world does not revolve around you, sister. I love you, but come on....sharing is something you still have to learn.

Peanut gets agitated whenever Bambi goes off on one of her barking tangents. In fact, he starts howling like a wolf, which then gets me to join in with the howling. Before you know it, there is a mass of noise going on. Something mom cannot take, she puts us outdoors until we get it out of our lungs. Within minutes, we're scratching at the door to be let back in. It's actually quite funny, but I am sure mom would disagree with me on this!

Well, I suppose this is it for now. Hope you all enjoyed my first entry! I will try and write in this diary faithfully, but I can't promise it will be as often as Bambi the attention hog. Just kidding, Bam! Love ya, sweetie. :-D
