Mom bought me a whole bunch of new toys this week! They were hard to find, because they were on the far side of the dining room, and there was a gate in the way, but I found them! Dad says I'm part retriever. Mom said something I couldn't hear, but Dad said not to write it in my diary.

After I found the basket, it was all covered in plastic! I guess it was supposed to be a present, but what's the point of wrapping something if you can see through the wrapper? I think Mom is a bit challenged at times, but she's still nice.

Since there were so many toys, I didn't mind that Bubba, Flower and Murphy came to share them. We had fun. It was a bonding moment.

Mom seemed really annoyed when she found us with my gifts. I guess it was supposed to be a surprise, even though the see-through wrapping is just weird.

Mom told Dad he was going to have to pay for all my presents now, which doesn't make much sense, since he paid for them in the first place! Mom kept muttering "Sparky's Pals" and "gift basket" and "craft sale" and "disaster", but I have no idea what she's talking about.

Dad told me that Mom was planning to sell my presents to strangers this weekend! I really can't figure out if she likes me or not. Why would she sell my presents? Who would buy used presents, anyway?

Maybe Mom needs her own crate so she could take a nap and relax. I always seem to go in my crate when Mom or Dad gets stressed, and I always feel better afterwards.

Wow! It's been forever since I've posted here. Dad's been taking a lot of photos lately, so maybe he will update my page - I think it's getting a bit stale.

It's been really busy around here! Grandma came home from the hospital, but now she has different ladies staying here to help Mom and Dad take care of her. It's hard, because we have to learn a new person every few days, but on the bright side, it gives me someone new to bark at! They all sleep in the extra room by the kitchen, so I go say "Good morning!" when Dad takes me out in the morning. When they're not expecting me, they can jump pretty high! It's fun.

I've been here a whole year now - can you believe it? I sent my friends in Denton a note to say thanks again for rescuing me. If I can survive a year here, I think I'll stay.

Mom and Dad have been at the hospital a lot lately because Grandma isn't feeling well. This means we're all spending a lot of time in our crates, which is fine, because my crate is great for napping, but it does get boring after a while.

Dad feels bad about it, so he lets me out in the evening so we can spend time together. He made all the other dogs stay out, so it was just the two of us. Snuggling was nice, but to tell you the truth, it's much more fun to wrestle with Murphy and Bubba. I don't know how to tell Dad because I don't want to hurt his feelings, but he's not very good at wrestling.

Don’t forget to bark them a pmail that they have been tagged and to read your Diary, or send them a fun Rosette announcing they've been Tagged!

1. My Mom thought I was going to be like Ripley (quiet), but I'm NOT!

I copied this from Murphy because he said it was important!

Mom and Dad founded Sparky's Pals (a 501(c)(3) corporation) in memory of my big brother Sparky, who went to the Bridge before I even got here. Bubba and Ripley said he was nice. I'm sorry I never got to meet him.

Sparky's Pals provides humane education - they teach children (mostly) how to behave safely around pets, and how pets should be treated, and why basic medical care, vaccinations and spay/neuter is important. However, providing education costs money! Mom and Dad came up with a interesting way to raise funds, so if you're going to be in the Dallas area on May 14, please join them!

After I finish, I usually want to get a toy. The best toys are on top of Mom's computer. I have to get in her chair, and then stand on the desk, and then stretch to try to reach them.
This was a pretty quiet week. I still get to rest most of the day, which is good, because I need my beauty rest. Murphy is usually in with me, and we play stare-down. It's fun. I usually win.

I heard that Dad is going to be working at home almost all the time starting next month. He said if Mom keeps talking at him while he's trying to work, he's going to get her a crate like mine. That would be funny! Her crate could go next to mine, so we could have quiet time together.

Dad also said I should send a shout-out to Debbie and the rest of the Denton gang who saved me in the first place! It seems like a long time ago when I was up there. All the people were really nice to me, and they helped my Mom find me. Thanks again, guys!

Mom took me in the car this afternoon to go get Daddy at his office. It's a long way from home, so I got to see a lot of really cool stuff! Mom won't let me drive, though.

I couldn't decide which seat had the best view, so I had to keep moving from one ot the other to see which was best.

After we got to Dad's office, one of his friends came down to say "Hello" to me. He was nice, but he forgot that you're supposed to have treats for a dog that you're meeting for the first time. I hope Dad reminds him next time.

Then, we started home, and I finally decided which seat has the best view. It was Dad's seat, so I had to sit in his lap most of the way home. It was fun.

Thanks for the ride, Mom!

Ripley hurt himself this week, so he has to stay in his crate. (The good news is that I didn't get blamed for it.) He's my company now, since I stay in my crate a lot, too. Dad and Mom let everybody out last night to watch TV. They were watching some show where a bunch of people line up and run into each other over and over. But, the neat thing is that if I walk in the dirt (I know it's called "dirt" because Dad keeps telling me to stay out of it), once I go inside, you can see everywhere I walk!
NOTE: Posted this here for people not on distribution

Mom:

Dad said I should write a weekly report and distribute it, even though I only had one full day at the office this week, and even though I have an online journal that people are supposed to check.

Personally, I think he is spending way too much time just sitting around thinking if he came up with that idea. (I'm pretty sure Dad is my boss and you're his boss, but I haven't seen an actual org chart. Is there one available?) Nonetheless, I am submitting this report, just in case he was serious, and just in case he is my boss.

To the other reviewers (on blind copy): FYI.

Kaitlin Renee ("Katie") Gilhooly - First Week Report

Last evening, prior to reporting to work, I went on a walk with Ripley, and then I spent some time with Flower. They are apparently the welcoming committee for new employees. Ripley was very nice, but looks vaguely familiar. Flower is a bit noisy at times, and a bit high-strung but I like her. She introduced me to her mom who is a nice enough lady, but didn't like it when I jumped up on her to say "Hello". I didn't really jump on her, I just put my front paws in her lap, so I could see her better, and she could see me. Maybe she's just shy. (Actually, I think she's Mom's boss, so maybe she just doesn't want to deal with the peons.)

My first full day at work was mainly spent acclimating myself in my new environment and doing administrative tasks. This is a nice place to work, but some of the rooms are rather small, and at times, it is very noisy. However, I think I will like it here.

Breakfast was pretty good, most of the food was very tasty, but there were some dry, crunchy bits intermixed with the chewy main dish. I have sent a note to the kitchen asking about their recipes and the hold time for prepared food. After that, I worked on all my administrative tasks as a new employee.

I was told I do not need a picture badge, although I was issued some tags yesterday. I put them on my necklace, since I don't have a pocket. I hope that is acceptable, and it is what Flower and Ripley did. I haven't seen a guard anywhere around here, so I'm not sure what purpose they serve.

I asked the webmaster to add me to the standard corporate websites, create my email accounts and update my Dogster page. He said this has all been completed.

My Dogster page (http://www.dogster.com/?392502)

According to the webmaster, my email addresses are active already. I was given my passwords, so I am just waiting for my personal computer to arrive so I can set them up. I will follow-up with the Computer Services department Monday if my computer has not been delivered. In the meantime, I will have one of the secretaries send this out for me.

Dad and Mom spend a lot of time in their private office. There are wires everywhere, and they aren't supposed to be chewed, apparently. I had an email sent to the OSHA coordinator, asking if the non-chewable items aren't supposed to be marked or perhaps color-coded.

At one point, Mom left to work on another project, so I sat in her chair, in case I was expected to cover the phones, but it is not a particularly comfortable chair. I could barely reach her keyboard from it, and if I leaned on the desk, the chair moved itself away. Besides, it turns when you try to settle down. I have requested a more stable chair for my use.

I don't want to complain, but I was actually expecting a private office for someone at my level, but I do realize that this is a start-up company, so I guess everyone is supposed to be "equal". I do have a private cubicle assigned, but it's at the other end of the complex and the door sticks, so I have to wait for someone to come get me for coffee and potty breaks. I have called maintenance and asked them to fix the door or just remove it. Frankly, it is annoying, especially since the walls aren't even solid, so it's not like there's any privacy anyway.

My first real assignment after all the administrivia was completed was gathering up all the toys that were scattered throughout the building and placing them in the Mom and Dad's office, so they would be more organized.

I also tested all of the toys I could find, and found them to be in reasonable working order. The squeakers all seem to be functional, for example. I have not decided on a favorite yet, so I just left them in a neatly organized half-circle around the office. I found this more artistic than a simple pile. Strangely, they all tasted a bit used. I have requested a completely new set of toys for my own use.

I found a round plastic chew toy that said "Nikon" on it, but apparently that's Dad's personal toy because he took it back pretty quickly. This is too bad, since it was the only fresh one.

Late this afternoon, Dad and Mom put up a climbing wall in the office doorway, but I don't like it. It took me a couple of tries to get over it, although I did finally get out of the office, and it generally just blocks the way. I have asked that the wall be removed so I can leave the office when I need to go check on any noises, or make copies. I heard Mom mutter something about "a taller baby gate", so I hope this is in regards to my request.

I believe all my current projects have been completed, athough they have not been reviewed. I will await next week's assignments, as well as feedback on my open requests.

Mom and Dad took me home today! Woo hoo! No more hospital food!

I am very important, apparently, because I have my own room and the other dogs are not allowed in it!

I went for a walk with Ripley this afternoon. It was weird because he looks like me sorta-kinda except he's a boy. I'm bigger than he is, but I let him lead since he was here first. He'll learn in time that I'm in charge.

I don't think I'm the only girl here because I heard another girl in the background. She's noisy! It sounds like she thinks she's a princess or something. Sheesh.

I wonder when feeding time is around here?

UPDATE: I just had dinner. It was good, but tasted suspiciously like hospital food. Sigh. I guess I will have to ask for a menu tomorrow instead of just settling for the buffet.

I met Flower. We ran around the house for a little while. She said she was a Princess, but I didn't see a tiara anywhere. I hope she's not delusional or anything. She's friendly, anyway.

Mom and Dad came to visit me today and we got to play for a while. Mom brought me a bunch of presents, and one was really chewy, so I liked it a lot! Dr T says I can go home this week, and she took me out of isolation today because somebody more sick than me came in. I never thought I would be happy to be the not-sickest! Anyway, I'm ready to go home, wherever that is. I haven't even seen it yet!

Mom and Dad came to visit me today, they didn't stay too long, but it was really nice to have some company. My doctor says I have ringworm, but I don't hear any ringing and I don't see any worms. Maybe she's just teasing. Dad said I would be going home soon.
This morning, my doctors told my Mom I'm doing better! I may get to go home soon, as long as they don't think I'm contagious, whatever that means. It sounds important, so maybe they mean I'm not important, which is just silly!

It's sorta fun here, but I think I'd rather take my chances on home. I hope that guy from the car ride is there - he had a lot of treats!

I got ratted out. Somebody here heard me cough a little bit, so the laughing lady said I have to stay here a couple of more days. I thought I heard someone talking about "kennel cough" but I've never been in a kennel, just in crates. Shouldn't it be "crate cough"?

Last week, I was in a crate with a nice dog, just minding my own business when two people walked over with the lady that was feeding me, and they took me out of the crate! One of the people just told me that everything was going to be alright, so I didn't worry too much. Plus, he had treats, so I figured I could trust him.

We went off in a car, so I thought they might be my new family. I got to sit with one of them, and he made a good pillow so I could see out the window. However, they took me to another place with a crate, and this time, I had a room all to myself! A nice man came in and checked on me, and people were going in and out. They even dunked me in some stuff that was smelly, but I heard one of them say it was to get ticks off. I didn't know I had ticks, but I was itchy, and it's better now.

On Tuesday, a lady came in to see me, and she's been here every day since then. I don't think she's my Mom, but you never know. She laughs a lot. I like her.

I think this is Friday, and I heard someone say I was going home tomorrow. This should be exciting. I wonder if it is the lady that comes to check on me, the pillow man or somebody else. I hope they have treats, whoever they are.
