Well, we had a bit of a scare last week when Mama found a lump on my shoulder! Mommy was so freaked out, she didn't even tell you, our dearest dogster friends. All she could think was that dreaded c-word. Anyway, the vet said she was 99% sure it was a fatty lump, but if we weren't comfortable we could get a cell sample. So, Mommy and Mama, being even prudent, decided that we would do that. The nice vet lady took two samples. I was a very good girl, and barely even flinched when she took them with a needle. I got lots of hugs and kisses after. Anyway, today the vet called and the lab results are back. IT IS a fatty lump! NOTHING to worry about! Mommy and Mama are so relieved!!! The vet said to keep an eye on it, but in general we didn't have to worry. OMD, thank you nice vet lady!

in other news, I got groomed for my Christmas photo. I look naked, I think, but Mommy says I look really pretty. Izzy had tons of knots and mats, so her skirt was shaved off last month and she didn't need to go this month. It's only starting to grow back now, BOL!

Bark to you later!
love always,

YIKES! Did you know, pups and doggies from Newfoundland, that we are the island of Newfoundland is the only place in North America that has reported the parasite of French Heartworm?! It was first found in Europe in the 1800s, and can infect both dogs and foxes. The first found source in Newfoundland was in 1973. It can be extremely dangerous, especially to puppies. That is why it is so important to take a flea and worm medication. It is particularly hospitable on the Eastern part of the province due to our moderate temperature year-round. Both Sentinel and Advantage Multi protect against French Heartworm.

Here's a pamphlet for you to become informed on French heartworm! We love our doggie friends and want to make sure you are protected!

Guys! Guys! WE is goin' on BAYCATION! Mommy and Mama are going to Cuba for a week to get some MUCH needed sunshine, so me and the Izz get to go to our bestest dogsitter, "Auntie" Jill. Jill and her hubby Ed let us sleep in the bed, and they have a big retriever, Cody and two shelties, Scotty and Gus, who stay with them all the time. So we are going to have a big dog pawrty for the whole week! We like Cody, Scotty and Gus, and we get to go for big long walks in the woods twice a day with Jill. She lives on a big lot of land, and she even has chickens and turkey, and a rooster named Fred. Mommy says Fred is scary, but we can bark as loud as he can caw, so we are not afeard!

Mommy says that her and Mama are going to have a way better time than me and the Izz, but I don't think so!

Bark to you all in a week!

Oh. My. Dog! So much snow fell yesterday (21 cms/8.3 inches in six hours) Mommy and Mama had to shovel and snowblow for 2 hours so that we could clear the driveway. The snowplow must have come up and down the street a dozen times. Mama was so good to make our little roads with the snowblower in the backyard so we could do our business. Of course with all of the wind from the blizzard, we have big snow drifts 3 feet high and when we are going along our little roads, Mommy can't even see the tops of our heads! And we are supposed to get more by the end of the weekend, they are calling it a "monster" storm. Oh. Joy. So for all you pupses complaining that you don't get to play in the snow, come here, we've got plenty!!! Playing in the snow is a lot of fun except Mommy makes us wear our jackets cause it's minus-a-million outside (not really, it's -9 celsius, windchill -21 (for you fahrenheit pups that's 15 F/-5 F windchill). That is too cold for us!

No wonder Mommy and Mama are going to Cuba in April. They need a warm beach, pronto!

Thank you dogster for makin' me a Diary Pick today! That's good, cause I always got lots to say, according to Mommy. I Arrroooo-rooo-rooo out the window all day long!

On Sunday I had a bit of a setback with my allergies. Mommy and Mama saw that I had thrown up on Saturday night after my supper, but didn't think that much of it because sometimes I do throw up. BUT, I didn't look that good, I was lethargic, and I ate my breakfast the next morning and threw up again. Then I threw up again and again. I threw up so much there was no food in my belly and I was just barfing up bile. It was NOD good. I wouldn't take any water, and I just lay down on the kitchen floor, which is not normal for me, I usually lie down on carpet. Mama called the emergency vet. She knew I was real sick.

Well I went to the emerg vet on Sunday afternoon, luckily they were able to take me, and I got some fluids right away cause I was dehydrated. I also got an anti-nauseant shot. It wasn't too pleasant, but I didn't feel well so I knew Mama and the lady vet was trying to help me.

We have since determined that I had an upset stomach from the Atopica medication, which is normal (throwing up), even though I have been on it for two weeks. Since I am on such a limited diet, we know I didn't react to anything bad, UNLESS I got into some yucky mess in the backyard, but Mommy doesn't think that was the case.

After I came back from the e-vet, I had a good nap (the anti-nausea worked like gravol), and then I was the best kind again. It was a very scary episode for Mommy and Mama and me, but I perked right back up after those fluids. Sigh. I have cost my Moms a lot of money, I am sure glad they are able to take care of me and my health issues. I am such a lucky dog.

Anyway, this week was much better, no barfs and much more like myself. I am still a bit itchy, but I'm getting a bit better, now that I'm not allowed any treats, chicken or anything else. Humph. At least I've lost 1.5 lbs, and am now closer to my ideal weight (although still a little heavy)!

Sorry for the late entry, but it literally took Mom a week to get it all straight in her head, plus she was emotionally and physically exhausted from the trip. We have been back a week, and we are finally starting to get back on track.

We flew on the airplane to Halifax (Mom doesn't recommend flying with dogs unless you can get liquor for the humans to drink before, during and after), then we got the rental car and drove to Charlottetown, PEI (another three hours). It was a long trip with two nervous humans and two nervous dogs. We finally got to the Holiday Inn, and it was a nice place, good sized room, clean, and hooray, we weren't the only dogs there! There were lots of doggies cause Charlottetown was having a dog show that weekend! Mommy said she was glad that we wouldn't be the only ones barking. It was very exciting to be there, lots new to smell and pee on! We slept Thursday night and got up early Friday to go to the Atlantic Veterinary College where Rudy's dermatology appointment was.

The appointment itself was not too bad. The vet dermatologist and two associates were very nice and treated us like gold. They loved me and gave me lots of hugs before they took me in to get sedated. They asked Mommy and Mama a bazillion questions about my environment and food intake. Then Mommy and Mama took Izzy out for a walk and to look around while they did the testing on me. The appointment all in all was about four hours. They sedated me, and did an extensive scratch test with 51 common allergens, and then did a serum test to look for more allergens. They had to shave quite a large spot off my side to do the scratch testing, but they were able to get the results for it on the spot, which was good. The serum and blood tests had to be sent away to a lab in the U.S., so it will take a few weeks for those results.

The results of the environmental tests came back okay, there was an allergic reaction to some weeds and some trees (like pine), but none of the results were obviously bad. The dermatologist told us that means it is mostly food allergies, which makes sense, since I itch year-round and it is getting worse. So now I have to be on an elimination diet to figure out what it is. There are no conclusive tests for food allergies now! The dermatologist said there is a blood test but it is so inconclusive that she doesn't even get it done on her patients anymore!

My symptoms are very like food allergies too. I scratch my ears and scratch, bite and chew spots on my back, as well as lick my paws excessively. The two weeks before the dermatology appointment were pure hell, cause I had to be off the prednisone and I was just miserable. They two days before the appointment I maybe got 2 hours sleep. As soon as we left the dermatologist I was able to start the /2 of a 5 mg prednisone daily (again), but the nice vet also gave me antibiotic for a month as I have a bacterial infection on the skin of my back and paws. She really wants to make sure I get better from it. Since we don't want me to be on prednisone long-term, we are starting a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory called Atopica, which is slow-acting. Eventually we will be able to decrease the prednisone. I also got ear drops for my ears which were infected, and weekly ear wipes. Don't even ask Mama what this cost, but considering the flight, the car rental, the specialist visit, the hotel stay, let's just say I must be worth it!!! BOL.

The treatment at home has now started too. I have to have a bath twice weekly with prescription shampoo which is to help take the inflammation down. I get my ear drops, ear wipes and pills. And I'm on a special food. The vet suspects that I am allergic to multiple types of grain and protein, as Mommy has tried all kinds of food with me. So, I am on a hypoallergenic kibble, called MediCal Vegetarian, which has potato protein in it. It was important to find a food that had a rare (to me) protein (not chicken, beef, liver, lamb or duck). If that kibble does not give me any relief in my itching in the next two months, we will try another food. The vet gave us a list of four. The four foods the dermatologist recommended were Purina HA, IAMS KO, MediCal/Royal Canin Vegetarian , or MediCal/Royal Canin HP. There is also the home-cooking option, but Mommy says she has to do a lot more research into it before she tries it.

The worst part of this is the diet. Mommy and Mama are not allowed to give me any treats of any kind. No table food, no scraps, no treats. Just kibble. So Mommy said she was going to give me a few piece of kibble for treats. The vet said that was okay. I think it's kinda mean on the vet's part, but I know she just wants me to be well.

That's all Mommy can write for now. BUT, there will be more ranting on her part later, I'm sure. If anyone has any allergy/food testing experiences, Mommy would love love love to hear them.

love always, I'm STARVING,
Rudy

Izzy pees on my head at least once a month when she gets over-excited on our walk, and jumps on top of me on a mound of grass and squats right over me. She usually gets me right in the beaner. It's humiliating. The little pipsqueak just won't learn though!

Well, last night Mommy walked us and I was peeing on a really good spot. It was prime real estate, I tell you. Do you know that fool Izzy stuck her nose right under my "little area"!? So she got peed on. Right on the snout. I am not evil like her, so I didn't *mean* to pee on her, but still I am vindicated. Maybe that will stop the peebag...

OMD, it's been forever since I've written! Mommy says she was busy with camping in the mutt hut, and trying to do this stoopid thing call school work, and trying not to go insane from thesis writing. What-EV. She has been super slack on my diary typing. I have lots to say Mommy, you know that from the roo-roo-rooing I do out the window every day!

Here is the break down of the past month or so.

We have gone in the mutt hut (5th wheel trailer) lots. It is pawsome. We get to go to Terra Nova National Park, Pippy Park, and other nice foresty places in Newfoundland, where we get to see, smell and bark at lots of critters like squirrels, bunnies, mice, shrews, etc. We even saw a silver fox and a moose!

Izzy is still a peebag. She peed on my head AGAIN when we went on a walk. I just don't know what to do with her! I usually just shake it off while Mommy laughs at me, and then I get a wipe down with one of those good wipes Mommy gets at the Pet store.

Yesterday we got groomed. We even got a Pawgress report from the groomer. The nice lady there said I was a pleasure to groom and that I had the nicest colour fur she had ever seen on a schnauzer. And she said I had the prettiest eyelashes she had ever seen! :) Mama treated us to the "top dog" spa special, so we got upgraded shampoo, conditioner, breath spray, teeth brushed and all sorts of other stuff. Of course me and Izz promptly came home and rolled in the grass to get all that smelly stuff off us!

Today I ate a grasshopper. It was hopping around, so I pounced a few times until I got 'em. He was kinda crunchy. I don't see how it's a gourmet delicacy though.

That's about it!
love you all,
Rudy

Mama is taking me to P.E.I. to see the vet dermatologist! Right now we are playing this up as a FUN and EXCITING adventure, even though when I get there, I have to have a 3 hour vet appointment (they are kinda glossing over that point, I feel). This is a big deal, because there are very few vet dermatologists in Canada so we have to go on an airplane in October to see the one at the vet college in PEI. Mama and Mommy are really hoping that the vet can figure out my allergies so we can do something about them! Right now I've got really sparse hair on my side because of my scratching, and I am on 5 mgs of prednisone a day, plus omega 3 fatty acids in my food, and no human foods.

I wonder will the plane be scary? Last time I was on one I was only 8 weeks old, so I don't remember it. Maybe nice Dr. Marshall can give me some gravol so I don't urka-gurka all over da plane.

Mommy is sad cause she can't go with Mama and me to PEI. It would be too expensive for her to go and besides, if she went then we would have to bring Izzy, cause Izzy might be confused and scared if we all left. And two dogs on a plane is a lot of stress and work. So Mommy will stay home with Izzy. Although Mommy is worried about that too, as me and Izzy have never spent a night apart, and she wonders how Izzy will be with that. Sigh, lots of decisions to make, cause of my stoopid allergies.

When we get closer to the date, we will contact the breeder where Mommy and Mama got me and Izzy, as they live in PEI, and hopefully Mama can take me over for a visit so I can meet my furdad and furmom! That is one bonus, at least, for this trip!

love always,
Rudy

Mommy and Mama just love to go in the mutt hut (trailer) to Terra Nova National Park. It's about 3 hours away from us by vehicle, which was never a problem until this year. On two different occasions now, though, I have gotten car sick! And not just a little urka-gurka (TM). A big, Imma-throw-up-everything-I-ate-in-the-past-few-days-urka-gurka. Mommy sits in the front passenger seat of the truck while Mama drives, and me and the Izz sit in the back seat. There is loads of room, we got our blanket, and our seat protector (thank DOG, Mommy says). Anyway, Mommy looks back to check on us every few minutes, and lots of time we just sleep, or Izzy looks out the window and I just sit there. Well, Mommy looked back and told Mama that I didn't look so good. The words weren't out of her mouth and I spewed. Geyser-like. Izzy barely even noticed. Sheesh. (By the way, even though I don't love driving, and am not that excited to go into the vehicle, only lately have I gotten car sick.) Mommy thinks it's strange since I never did it before.

Mommy was real nice, and we stopped at the nearest stop so she could clean it (and me) up. Then I urka-gurka'd again in the grass and in the parking lot of the rest stop. Mommy felt real bad for me then, and let me sit in the front seat on her lap, with the air conditioning on bust, so I could cool down. She also gave me a drink of water, and that all seemed to help. I never barfed after that, and Mommy was glad, because cleaning up puke is one thing, but cleaning up being puked "on" is a completely different thing.

Mommy says next time we go out with the trailer, she's calling the vet first - maybe there is some sort of motion sickness remedy she could give me?!

love always,
Rudy

Well, I had a 'barrassing accident today. I did my poopy on the carpet. I had some urgent moments yesterday, and Mommy suspected I was getting sick, and sure enough, I got her up at 2 and 4 a.m. to let me outside to do my business. So when I got up again at 7 a.m., she let me out again, and I didn't do anything. But then her and Mama went to do an errand, and when they came back there was a mess on the floor. I was 'shamed. Mommy din't make me feel bad at all, in fact, she was real nice about it, considering it was white carpet. She said I couldn't help it, and she knew that I had colitis again, cause I have only had an accident in the house twice before, and both times was cause I couldn't hold in the dire-rears. :(

So Mommy called Mama at work, and then called the vet, and we went over this afternoon. Yup, I gots the colitis, which is a fancy word for inflamed lower intestine/bowel, with lots of dire-rears. I get only a little bit of food, with my antibiotic, and plain rice till I start to feel better. I had a good check-up all over then, and Dr. Beth gave me compliments as usual. Other than her doing something REALLY rude to my backside (she said she had to to make sure!), it was okay. I am home now and getting lots of love and pampering from both Mommy and Mama.

The vet did mention something about since my stomach was SO sensitive that there should be no more "dietary indiscretions". That means no human food at ALL! This is going to be tough for all of us, but it is for my own good. Le sigh.

Anyhoo, I'm okay, not dehydrated or anything, just got the poops. I will write again soon and let you know how I am.

We have had some exciting past few days. First of all, we are getting new siding on the house, so we have had to go to Nanny's in the day. All that banging, knocking, scraping, and more banging is very unnerving for us and Mommy, so the bodka-dwip (TM) has been on high gear for Mommy. Mama goes to work so she doesn't hear all the demolition sounds!

Secondly, we had the nicest day of the year (so far) yesterday! It was 21 degrees C, sunny, and just wonderful. We had a great walk, and it was so neat, we saw a DEAD MOUSE on the side of the road!!! Mommy was no fun at all though, and didn't let us sniff it. :( She just doesn't know the value of a good sniff. Not only that part was exciting though. OMD, Izzy peed on my head. AGAIN! She insists on leaving pee-mail where I go, and she gets so excited, that sometimes she jumps on top of me (or on a little slope of a lawn) and PEES right on me! How Rude! Mommy laughed and said she was gross, and then had to wipe me off with a tissue, cause I was literally dripping!!!

Thirdly, my allergies are bad again. I have sore ears, itchy skin, and parts of it are inflamed, including my pwivacy-pweese (TM) lady-bit areas. So, I am on antibiotics, and the vet and the mommies are thinking seriously about getting me allergy testing, so we can find out what it is. We are thinking I am allergic to grass! OMD, what a pain that would be!! If you have been following my diary, you know I have had a lot of allergy issues, and we have been narrowing down as lot, but still are not sure what it is.

If we get this allergy testing, we would go to Guelph to the Veterinary University there, where there is a vet dermatologist! Zaidie has been there and he says they are nice. We would all go, because both Mommy and Mama would want to go, and we couldn't leave Izzy, even if she is a PEE-BAG. If we go, we are going to visit Zaidie!!! OMD, that would be so pawsome!!!!!!!

I am five years old today! Happy Barkday to me! I woke up real early with Mama, and she gave me a special breakfast of my regular kibble with some "Blue" brand turkey casserole wet food on top! It was delicious! Izzy got some too on account of that "share and share alike rule" we gots going on in the house. Phooey on that. :) But I got seconds! Tonight we are going to Nanny and Poppy's for a bbq, and I've got high hopes that Poppy will accidentally drop something. Hee hee. So far I am having a very relaxing birthday, but later we are going to go on a nice walk on the trails, cause it is beautiful and warm and sunny here!

Thank you all for the rosettes. You are all such great pals.

We have somethin' serious to discuss here, pups. I have gained weight! My trim figure is not as trim! I have been on a low-dose of prednisone (between 1/2 and 1/4 pill every day for a few months, because my skin was freaking out so much. Now Mommy says I am too big, and we have got to wean the prednisone down. I don't want itchy skin, but I don't want to be heavy either! Now before anyone gets any ideas, I'm not going to be on "Biggest Loser" or anything. I am 19.2 lbs, so I should lose 2 lbs. to be my regular weight. What to do, what to do? Mommy is walking me more now that the WINTER FROM H-E-double hockey sticks is over, but that's not enough, she says. She says she is going to enroll me in flyball or agility again! I hated agility, so hopefully it will be flyball.

Also, no more treats! Only low-cal/low-fat treats. And NO chicken! Or cheese!

Mommy's plump, why can't I be?!

Today is Sunday, and it was the second sunny day in a ROW! That might not be a big deal to some pups, but we have had a very grey and yucky winter, and sunny days have been far and few between!!!

Anyhoo, I digress. It were a beautiful day and both days we got big huge walks - yesterday in the park, and today in the neighbourhood. The snow is melting nicely and there is much more room to go walking. Mommy is very pleased about that. So today we took our walk up the street, and down some side streets, to look at the sights, bark the bark, walk the walk. It was PAWSOME. We were being great little pups, trainin' for our speed-walking and sled-pulling combination trial (Mommy needs exercise anyway, BOL!), when I stopped to pee on a pole. Izzy, the little rascal extraordinaire, hopped over me to get a higher position on the grass, and peed too. ON MY HEAD. Mommy was laughing hysterically, and there was pee everywhere, and I had to shake it off once I realized what that little rascal did. Honestly, Izzy, you are almost three, going on three months! NOD GUD.

When Mommy stopped laughing, we went home and had a leg bath to get all the salt and sand off our legs, and Mommy made sure to give my head a good wash too. That Izzy (shakes head).

Mommy feels pretty bad cause I am sick again!!! Yesterday she found somebody's poopy in the house, and she was pretty sure it was mine. Then I had to go out urgently in the middle of the night. Then again this morning. Then I threw up a treat Mommy gave me. And then I poopied in the house again :( it were an emergency, and Mommy was gone for three hours! In hindsight, she said she would have put me in the crate, but oh well. She cleaned up my mess (I felt real bad too), and then called the V-E-T. Our super sweet vet squeezed us in, and we went this afternoon. Yup, as Mommy suspected, I have another case of colitis. This is the third time in a year, and Mommy and Mama are really careful with my food, so it's apparent that I am not reacting well to something, or I'm just super sensitive. So, time for another food change. This time we are going to try Medi-Cal Gastro. My poor belly makes lots of gurgles, and Mommy hates to see me with the dire-rears. Hopefully this will help. Mommy feels like she has tried so many foods with me! Anyway, I got antibiotics (unrelated - my ears were slightly inflamed too!), and probiotics to take as well, to help build the healthy bacteria in my stomach.

Mommy knows it's not really her fault, but she still feels that she should have been able to figure it out before I got too bad again. Please send POP that I get better soon, cause it's not fun having a bad belly.

love always,

OMD! I caught a MOUSE!!!! There was a big commotion when Mommy saw it hanging from my mouf, by one paw, dangling all fragile-like, and she screamed bloody murder. Sheesh, you would think someone died or something!!!! Anyhoo, I'm getting ahead of myself. Let me start from the beginning!

We had a freakily warm day in Newfoundland, it got up to 16 C, and the sun was out, and it was just beeyooutiful. So Mommy decided to clean up the deck outside, and we were playing outside in the leaves that Mommy is still in the process of raking up. There are a LOT of leaves due to the maple trees between ours and our neighbour Terry's yard.

Well, me, Izzy and Ben were sniffing and rooting around, playing and having a jolly time. Then I saw Izzy rooting at something under a big pile of leaves. I even saw Mommy go over to investigate, but with her inferior human eyes, she didn't see anything, so she went about her business. Well, as soon as she left, I ran over there to see what Izzy was tryin' to show me. Well, holy mother load, it was a mouse!!!

Here is where the commotion started. I grabbed it, and ran up to the deck to Mommy. She started screaming and hollerin' and saying very unladylike words. The mouse looked dead, but she's not sure if I killed it or it was already dead, and I'm not sayin' a word.

Let's just say it's a good thing for Mommy that Terry was next door puttering around in his shed. He heard her scream, and came to see what was the matter. Izzy and Ben protected the frontier while Terry let himself in and went to see. Mommy was hollerin' about a mouse, and he started to LAUGH!!! As if catching your big first kill is funny! Harumph! Mommy didn't think it was funny either. Anyway, he came up, and I dropped the mouse on the patio. Terry determined that it was dead, then PICKED it up with his BARE HANDS (these are Mommy's caps lock letters, by the way), and threw it over the fence!! OMD! It was terrible. There went my big prize, sailing over the fence to a new land. Terry laughed and told me I was like a cat, bein' a mouser. He obviously doesn't know or appreciate the history of terriers. Neither does Mommy.

Needless to say, she had to go lie down. Now she's chasing the memory away of my furry little prize with that Mexican beer. Hmm, wonder if there are mice in Mexico?!

Dear Dogster HQ,
we have been big fans of dogster since we first joined four years ago. We have made lots of new friends, and contacts, and learned lots of information. We would have even said that Dogster was one of the best sites on the internet!

Some of the changes you have made recently have been challenging for us, your regular users. A lot of pups and their pawrentals have been saying how hard it is to navigate, and how the old site was better. We agree with that, but we got used to it. But the newest changes are the most confusing! The way the list of your pup pals activities comes up is not easy to understand. For example, if you click on where someone responds to a diary, the pup who actually wrote the diary does not come up, rather the commenter, so you can't actually tell whose diary it is! This is very confusing and annoying. If you had to change just one thing about this new process, could you at least change it so we can actually see what diary entry our friends have commented on?!

Thank you!

OMD Dogster, thank you so much for making me a diary pick of the day! I am so honoured! Of course, I am inspired by a bunch of literary pups in Schnauzers Rule, like Lexie, Zoe, Ernie George, Fizzy, Zaidie and others!

It's great to be a dog and have your own personal typist. Without having opposable thumbs, it would be quite hard. At least my typist is fast, and doesn't make too many mistakes. BOL.

Well, I didn't get Mom to post this on facebook (too 'barrassing!) but I have had to have another visit to the vet. Turns out I have colitis! I puked five times the day before yesterday, and I had some blood coming out of the other end. Sheesh. Mommy and Mama FREAKED and called the e-vet, who, after we explained all the symptoms, told us to wait until morning (yesterday). We did, and went to our regular vet, who did a - privacy please - exam, and said that my tummy and insides felt good, and that likely I had eaten something that really bothered me. So I am on some more antibiotics until this clears up. I haven't thrown up since Wednesday night, thank goodness, and there seems to be no more blood coming out. Yay! This is all very heartbreaking to Mom, cause she knows the dangers of possible pancreatitis with schnauzers, and yet she still didn't stop Poppy from giving me a taste of hamburger on Tuesday night. We don't know if that was it or not, but it sure tasted good. Now Mom has laid down the IRONCLAD LAW that I get no no no more people food! Even from my beloved Poppy. Sheesh. Overreact much?! No, seriously, I guess it is in my best interest. Izzy and Ben had a taste of hamburger too, and they were fine, so I obviously have a very tricky and sensitive stomach.

Anyhoo, I am feeling 100% better today, and all those diary pick rosettes that I got made me feeling sick yesterday that much more tolerable. I love you guys!

It was brought to my attention that I did not fill in everyone on my latest vet appointment! Well, ...

It was brought to my attention that I did not fill in everyone on my latest vet appointment! Well, I had my stitches out on Tuesday, and they came out just fine, and sweet Dr. Beth told us that my skin looked really good, much much improved. Also, she had the results, and I am happy to tell you that the biopsy came back as expected, my skin was severely affected by allergies, which are most likely environmental, and NOT by something horrible like parasites or something even worse! The allergies, while horrible, we can deal with. The course of antibiotics I was on cleared up the infection, and the prednisone has stopped the itch. We noticed that I improved greatly after three or four days of prednisone, at 1 pill a day, then we slowly started weaning me down. I am now on 1/4 pill of prednisone every day, but am going down to 1/4 pill every 2 days in another week. It looks like I might have to stay on that for a while, at least until the snow comes, and then we will see. Mommy and Mama are prepared to do whatever they can for me.

One note about the allergies. Our wonderful vet told us that it doesn't seem likely that I have a lot of food allergies, as I am on grain-free, hypo-allergenic food already. She also said that my sore spots that came on my back were more consistent with environmental allergies, not food allergies. Dogs with food allergies frequently lick their paws a lot, and have sore spots (like a red ring) around their bummy. I don't have that, mine is just on my sides and back.

Thank you sweet friends for thinking of me. Mommy and Mama see a huge difference in me on the prednisone, I am back to my normal loving, sweet self. And our new addition, Ben, is kinda fun to hang out with too, I don't mind him at all!

Dear friends,
please wish me the best luck and tons of POP, as my itchies are back, worse than ever, and Mommy had to take me to the vet again. Well, my skin is all red and inflamed, and in the span of a day, I have scratched/licked fur off a spot in my back, plus made myself bleed again. The vet is almost certain that it is allergies and not a parasite or anything, but she has to do a biopsy tomorrow to make sure. So tomorrow is a day at the animal hospital, I go in at 8:30 a.m. Please say a prayer for me that we get the results back as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, there is no vet pathologist/allergist on the island, so our vet will have to send the results away to Ontario which could take 2 weeks to get back. At least I will be on pre-emptive medicine while we wait for the results.

I have to be put on sedation tomorrow for the biopsy, so pawlease say a quick prayer, or POP all the way up to Newfoundland for me.

Today I am doing a bit better. I had a 1/2 a benadryl pill (12.5 mgs) yesterday and today, so I am sleepy, but it helps with the itch. I am also taking two homeopathic medicines to help boost my immune system and skin function, plus I am on that way-cool rabbit and white rice diet.

We are pretty sure I stopped eating because I was *so* uncomfortable with the itching. The medication the vet gave me is helping a bit with it, I didn't scratch too much today. As for my meals, I ate my breakfast and supper today, and took some good drinks of water. So no wheat, corn or grains right now. After a while, Mommy will slowly start introducing other foods back in, but for now I am going to get home-cooked meals, absolutely nothing manufactured! Mommy said if she had to go get moon rocks on the moon for me to eat, she would (or at least make real good friends with an astronaut!)

Whether or not it's a food allergy is debatable, however, because it seems I have periods of itchiness and allergies, and am only extremely itchy in the summer. Could it be that I am exacerbated by heat or warm weather? Am I allergic to grass or weeds? Right now we are playing the waiting game to see what happens. Mommy and me thank you all for your POP's and love and support.

I forgot to tell you, that little sis Izzy is a pest, but I was sure happy to see her and vice versa when I got out of the vet yesterday!!! And boy the hugs and licks I gave Mommy and Mama. Mommy leaked something awful yesterday, but I told her to cut it out when I got home! BOL.

love you all, and thank you again,
Rudy

Mommy is writing this for me, as I am in the Avalon Animal Hospital getting an IV. I am dehydrated, and I haven't eaten for a day or even drank very much water. I am very itchy and have been scratching non-stop. Mom thinks I am uncomfortable from the intense itching, and that's why I'm not eating. Mommy and Mama are absolutely out of their minds with worry. Please send prayers, loves, hugs, power of the paw. We will let you know as soon as we find out something: the vet thought she would only have to stay the day for the IV.

I have been scritching and scratching my skin like crazy! I had to go on antibiotics, prednisone and speshul shampoo three weeks ago. Well it worked to clear up all the pimply spots and scabs, but as soon as I stopped the medicine, the spots came back. They are worse this time and I have made myself bleed. This is different from Izzy's allergiez, cause she gets hot spots and I don't. Mommy is at her WITS END trying different foods, to try to figure out what I am allergic too. Now the vet wants to try me on Z/D or D/D vet hypoallergenic diet, but she said that she heard real good things about the K/O kangaroo diet!!! Aroooo! My friend Zaidie pup is on that stuff! So there was none left at the vet, but there is some coming in next week and Mommy thinks she will pick it up and hope that my skin clears up. There is no allergy testing in this province, it has to be sent away, which is real expensive, and some of those tests (as I'm sure you know) are inconclusive, so we are going to try different diets first, before putting me through allergy testing.

I hope I'm not allergic to chicken.

Our friend helped us figure out the new dogster to get the main page looking more like the old page. First, sign in, then click on the orange community button. The first option in the drop down menu is"community homepage", click on that. Then on the left side and down a tad is a box, that you can check, which says "Make this my Dogster Homepage", click the box. Says Shaylee and Angus's mom, "it makes it sorta like the former dogster homepage (sorta) the lettering is orange on a peach background but it shows who did what ie. diary entry, photo...it even shows what groups we belong to."

So, that was a big help. Now I just want to know how to search for a specific dog (like one of my pals, and I can't remember their number)!

My mommy has the chest cold/sinus infection from H-E-double hockey sticks (that's how my uncle Adam used to explain it when he was a kid - BOL). So me and Izzy have been trying to take care of her! We are helpfully eating all the tissues that she drops, therefore cleaning the floor! Who needs maid service? Izzy is personal bodyguard for mommy while I am on lookout duty - after all, you can never tell if those youngsters on the street could be dangerous. I bark at all of them, just to be on the safe side! And that flyer delivery guy is just EVIL, so I bark extra hard at him. Mommy need not worry, I will protect her! Mama says I am doing a great job of taking care of Mommy while Mama is away on business. I think there might be a treat for me when she gets home.

Here in this house... I will never know the loneliness I hear in the barks of the other dogs 'out there'. I can sleep soundly, assured that when I wake my world will not have changed. I will never know hunger, or the fear of not knowing if I'll eat. I will not shiver in the cold, or grow weary from the heat. I will feel the sun's heat, and the rain's coolness, and be allowed to smell all that can reach my nose. My fur will shine, and never be dirty or matted.

Here in this house... There will be an effort to communicate with me on my level. I will be talked to and, even if I don't understand, I can enjoy the warmth of the words. I will be given a name so that I may know who I am among many. My name will be used in joy, and I will love the sound of it!

Here in this house... I will never be a substitute for anything I am not. I will never be used to improve peoples' images of themselves. I will be loved because I am who I am, not someone's idea of who I should be. I will never suffer for someone's anger, impatience, or stupidity. I will be taught all the things I need to know to be loved by all. If I do not learn my lessons well, they will look to my teacher for blame.

Here in this house... I can trust arms that hold, hands that touch...knowing that, no matter what they do, they do it for the good of me. If I am ill, I will be doctored. If scared, I will be calmed. If sad, I will be cheered. No matter what I look like, I will be considered beautiful and known to be of value. I will never be cast out because ! I am too old, too ill, too unruly, or not cute enough. My life is a responsibility, and not an afterthought. I will learn that humans can almost, sometimes, be as kind and as fair as dogs.

Here in this house... I will belong. I will be home.

I had diarrhea last night, and had to wake Mommy four times to go out in the blustery snow. It was urgent! Then this morning, Mommy only gave me chicken and rice, cause obviously my stomach is upset, but I frew that up. :( Mommy is worried, last night I had a bully stick, which I haven't had in a while. Maybe that made me sick? I didn't get into anything, as far as she knows. I have such a sensitive stomach, Mommy says, it is hard to know what to give me for a treat! I am already on the really good, no-wheat, low fat food. I guess we are going to have to find allergy-sensitive treats too.

Mama got treated for H1N1 last week, she gots the "Tamiflu" pills so she's starting to feel better. But both Mommy and Mama had a really bad weekend bein' sick. Mommy finally went to the dr. (she knew she didn't have the H1N1 cause she had the vaccine) and she has pneumonia! Cough, cough, bark, bark, bark. Din't know hoomins could bark too. Poor Mommy. At least Mama was able to go back to work today, that's something. Mommy is home though, so I've got a nice lap to curl up on. After all, she needs lots of warmth and loves, those antibiotics only do so much. A dog's love is worth more, I think! I sure hope Mommy feels better soon,we haven't had a good walk in a few days. Mama was concerned about that, so she called our good friends Jill and Ed, and we went over there for a good run and play yesterday. There were other dogs there and we came home all covered in twigs and leaves from the forest. Sigh. It was a good time. Anyhoo, put your paws together for Mommy and Mama to feel better soon!

Alright Pals! You made it here. I see you caught my foot ball pass. Here is what you should do next! Hurry and pass the ball to 5 of your team mates so they can make a touch down. You are also supposed to write down 5 things about yourself that are funny. Also please leave me a bone and ask all those who visit your diary to leave you a bone so you will know they have been there! Ok…Here goes the play!

1. I am the supremo alarm - I will let momm know, loudly, whenever there is an iminent threat!

2. I like my sister Izzy a lot, even though she's a greedy guts, and steals my stuff.

3. I still like to steal tissues and rip them up if I can get them

4. When Mama comes home from work, I go crazy! I love to see Mama pull into the driveway, and I cry and bark until she comes in!

5. Me and Izzy wrestle every day. That's how I keep my trim figure!

our good buddy from Brampton, a fellow Canadian schnauzer Murphy went to Rainbow Bridge this morning. We are very sad at this loss, and wish his Mom much peace and love during this difficult time.

For Murphy:

I'm Not Gone by Audrey E. Nickel

I'm not gone...not really.
I haven't gone away...I've only gotten bigger.
My eyes, so bright, now shine among the stars.
My voice sings with the wind in winter, as I leap
And dance among the treetops.
I stalk the blown leaves in autumn, and brush the
Flowers gently in the spring.
I come to you in dreaming, on feet grown dreamtime soft,
And lay my cheek against yours, and whisper:
"Peace be with you."
Someday we will play again together, you and I, among the stars. 'Til
then, fear not to love, for your love gave my life meaning. And I
return that love to you...a hundredfold...a thousandfold... Forever.

I ALMOST HAD IT! There was a big turkey, all the trimmings, tons of vegetables at Nanny's house. All of them spread out so beautifully on Nanny's table, which is a bit lower than Mommy's at our home. I stood on my hind legs, held on to the table with my front paws, reached up my head as far as it could go, and bang-0, I had a nice piece of turkey and juicy skin in my mouth! AND THEN MOMMY found me! Boy was she mad! I have never stolen from the table before. But it was Christmas, and it smelled SO good!!! Mommy was mad, but she laughed too. It was a wonderful Christmas. We got bully sticks and rawhide "wreaths" and new toys. My lovely Skeeter sent me a toy and a cow hoof, and my sister got a toy and bully sticks too. What a great day! Maybe we can do it again tomorrow?

I got to go to doggie country camp for the day (it's a great place like a doggie day care, we spent the day romping in the snow), while Izzy was at the hospital.
Mama got a prezzie for Mommy. It is a lead splitter, and you hook it up to one lead and are able to walk two dogs with it. It prevents one dog from going too far ahead, and Mommy says it's the best thing since sliced bread because Izzy pulls on her really hard. That Izzy is still a puppybutt (to borrow Lexie's term for Buddy!) and she is a brute. Really stronng! Anyhoo, I have not decided if this leash contraption is good yet.

Cons:
1) I haf to walk next to Izzy, which is only fun sometimes.
2) She pulls and ends up making me walk faster, with no time to smell the roses!
3) Sometimes she's rearin' to go when I'm peeing. C'mon! Give a girl a break!
4) Not as much room to roam when I'm attached to Izzy by only a foot or so.

Pros:
1) I get to walk next to Izzy, which is fun sometimes.
2) Mommy says we look as cute as two peas in a pod. I respond well to compliments!
3) Mommy's arm doesn't hurt when she uses it.
4) Mommy says it's safer cuz the puppybutt can't dart into the street.
5) We don't trip Mommy up when she only uses 1 lead.

Well, I guess the pros outweigh the cons from a dog's point of view. Mommy says there is no point in arguing, because *she* loves it! Humph. Well, I spose it's not too bad.

I was tagged by Kady. Here are 7 facts about me!

1) I love chicken. I get a little taste of cooked chicken with my kibble at each meal.

2) I love to snuggle in bed with Mommy. She has the bestest lap and I always squirm my way in so that I fit just right.

3) I think the bestest walk ever is one where I get to go into the woods and smell the trees, and woods.

4) I love to play at Auntie Jill's house with all the other doggies.

5) I go to doggie day care once or twice a month to socialize with other doggies, and I love it!

6) I always run outside to do my business ahead of Izzy, but I always look back to make sure she's coming!

7) I have four different coats! Rain/reflective gear, fall fleecy coat, winter coat weatherproof, and winter coat sherling!

I sure hope you liked my answers!

Halloween. Enuf said. That irritating time of year when Mommy and Mama think it's hilarious to dress the poor innocent schnauzer in a costume, take pictures, and laugh hysterically. They must be sick in the head! I mean, there are all these miniature hoomans coming to the door, think of the potential danger! We need to sound the alert, not be restrained in costumes! I mean, really, those kids are in effect, STEALING from my mommy, because they are coming around, all cute looking, and she is powerless to say no to their candy-wanting mouths and grubby little hands. (Izzy whispers to Rudy). What? If we turn on the cute eyes they might give US candy?!?! Hmmm, I'll have to think about this more carefully.

Meanwhile, poor Izzy might have it worse this year. At least I'm used to being "Darth Rudar". Go read her entry and see what she is going to have to put up with. Izzy's fate!

Do you like my new layout for autumn? October is my favorite month for lots of reasons. I think I will make a list:

1) Thanksgiving (for us Canadians). Thanksgiving means Turkey!

2) Mommy's birthday! Comes right before Thanksgiving, which means cake before turkey!

3) Autumn leaves. All those pretty colours, plus the leaves get dry and crunchy and I love to crunch them in my mouth. I am showing Izzy how to play in them.

4) Cooler nights, so mommy doesn't have to turn on the fan.

5) Pumpkin pie! Okay, mommy doesn't let me have pumpkin pie, but it sure smells good!

Check out my new pics on my page. Mommy took us to the park, and you can see how big Izzy is getting when she stands next to me!

I forgot to announce that me and Izz (mostly me, cause she's too young) are new administrators at Sam's Stinky Dog Cafe! It is really fun, and we are getting to meet lots more new pups. Since Sam,Lucy,Roxy,Frank and Gunner have gone on hiatus, we really needed someone to run the place. So we stepped up to the plate. So far we have been trying to get the place more organized (putting birthdays on the group page, announcements of Pup of the Week, and stuff like that) but we are also looking for new games to play. If any pup has any suggestion for a group game, I would love to hear it. It seems that dogster pups each have their own favorite group, and I want to make sure that Sam's is a favorite group! To get some extra help, we also enlisted the help of Frodo, he's made some really great pics for the place!

Mommy says to write here that we've accidentally run out of zealies! I told her that it was uncouth, but she says it isn't, because dogsters are really nice and share a lot. Sheesh. She has no shame!

I am a barker extraordinaire and I bark for good reason! I am a schnauzer for goodness sake! I bark for all good reasons including but not limited to suspicious people walking up the street, any wheels (bike, skateboard, wheelies, rollerblades), runners, mailmen, flyer delivery boys, suspect vehicles, loud noises, neighbours, other dogs, cats, mice, squirrels...

So, why am I worried? The word from the dogpark is that there is this super bad supersonic squealy thing that only dogs can hear arriving at my good pals Lexie and Buddy's house. (whispers) What if Mommy gets one for MY house? I enjoy barking! I'm good at it! And Mommy stopped trying to get me to stop! The pennies in the can didn't work, the spray bottle only worked a while, and now with Izzy in the mix, if she joins in we can make a real noise!!!

Lexie and Buddy, we are going to help. I don't know who we're gonna call, Congress? Parliament? The Queen? Ghostbusters? But we will call someone! Something must be done!

Dear readers, let me know if you have one of these things in your house. Have you managed to destroy the thing? I hope so! Meanwhile, if it arrives at your house, there's a plan. Put on the guilt - and bad. Dive under the couch when it turns on and cry. Shake if you can. Come out only for good treats and then retreat again. Maybe your parentals will feel so bad they'll throw it out???!!!

Sisters in solidarity.

Mommy says schnauzers are smart, but that maybe I am too smart for my own good! As you know I am taking antibiotic pills for the scratch infection I gave myself with those yucky allergies. Well, my ears are doing a bit better, but not for lack of me fighting every pill and every ear drop! Those drops are the worst!

Well, I was doing okay with the pill taking for days 1,2,3. Mommy would hide the pill (it's a yucky flavour, and not even coated!) in a chicken flavoured pill pocket. I thought that was pretty nifty! She would jam the pill in there and make it like a package. She was sure I could not get the pill out, and the pill pocket would cover the taste! As I said, I put up with this for the first few days. But today, I ate my pill pocket in front of her, and then went into the living room. Mommy found the spit out antibiotic. I showed her! I gently ate the pill pocket AROUND the pill, and spit that sucker out!

Sheesh Mommy, it tastes bad! We schnauzies have excellent taste buds.

(Mommy here. Rudy crunched the pill in half, so I put each half in a pill pocket, and fed them to her. Then I opened her mouth to make sure she swallowed them! Then she got a tiny taste of chicken for a reward. It's going to be a long 6 days!)

Allergies, allergies! Mommy noticed I was not comfortable the past few days, and I have even scratched myself under my chin and made it bleed in a few places! I was licking my paws a lot too. Mommy took me to the vet, and it's a good thing, as a few spots of skin are starting to get infected. Nice Dr. Beth put me on antibiotics for my skin, and gave me some special shampoo to bath in, to get rid of some of the crusties that has built up under my fur. I also got eye and ear drops because my ears are inflamed and my right eye is red and leaky. And I got a prescription of hydroxizine for my allergies. The vet (who LOVES me) said I will start to feel better real soon, and that we are going to continue the allergy medicine all summer, cause we don't want this to happen again!

Mommy cried. Sheesh, she's such a worry wart. I'm gonna be fine, ma! It's all that rolling around in the grass with Izzy that got me so allergic; I never had anyone to roll around in the grass with before!

(By Rudy's mommy Sarah)

Well, our 2nd baby schnauzer is coming tomorrow. It's hard to believe that not quite two years ago, we drove to PEI to pick Rudy up. We knew that we would get her a playmate eventually, and we thought it would be nice to get another puppy from the breeder that we got Rudy from. They are really nice people, and were more than happy to oblige us to keep Rudy's tail intact. Now the breeder won't dock any tails!

That being said, I want all my dear Dogster friends to know that we were/are on a waiting list for a schanuzer at one of the local adoption agencies, should one ever come up. As a family, we want schnauzers, because they don't shed, and we are slightly allergic. We think adopting is so admirable, and if there was a schnauzer rescue nearby, we would have used it, but there is none in this area of the country. We think anyone who adopts a pup/dog who was abused/neglected/given up, are the best people in the world!!!! We wish we could adopt.

We love you all, and we will update soon!

Yesterday I went to doggie country camp with my friend Jason. Jason is a big dog lover, and he takes in dogs to his house which has lots of land (fenced in), so they can have a big playdate. He watches over us, feeds us, gives us water, and does grooming too, if you need. He supervises our play, and sometimes we go on field trips, like yesterday, when we went to the beach. It was great fun, and when I got home I was tired!

Today Mommy and I walked to the mailbox to get the mail (it's down the street from us), and there were two pieces of mail for me! The first was a birthday card from my dear friends Rocky and Sarge. The card had a dog on it, of course, a lab like Rocky. It was really nice. The second piece of mail was a package, from my bestest Canadian pal, Jelly! With affie wags and kisses, Jelly sent me a new pink loofah dog and a box of local peanut butter and Saskatoon berry biscuits, all the way from Winnipeg! Jelly and her mom are so nice to think of me, and get me a present for my birthday!

Today I'm going around the bay with Mama Deb to see Nanny! I will be back on Sunday. It is always nice to go out there, because I get lots of attention!

bark to you all later!

I am two years old! I am still a young pup, mommy says, so I have lots of energy, a small attention span and want to play play play all the time. Mommy gave me a new rope toy - it is super cool, it is a bumblebee squeaker, with rope handles. I also got a bully stick last night and I think there is another one up in that cupboard.

(Rudy's mommy Sarah)
Now, here's the part Rudy doesn't know. This afternoon is her last class at agility. I am bringing a homemade doggie birthday cake (complete with real turkey flavour) so that all the dogs can share Rudy's special day!

(Rudy's mama Deb)
I have almost finished the back fence, so Rudy will be able to run free outside and we don't have to worry. Yippee! We are also searching for a mini agility set to put up outside, so we can practice over the summer!

(Both mommies)
Happy Birthday Rudy! We love you so much, you are the light of our lives!

1) I am doing well at agility. There are two more sessions left, can you believe it? I went from skidding and digging my heels in to not have to approach the weave poles and the jumps, to doing the weave poles for fun, and ALMOST getting up the A-frame. After this session is over, I am going to take a break, and restart in July or August. Mommy and Mama want to do a bit of travelling on weekends in the summer, so it only makes sense to take some time off, since agility is on weekends.

2) Mommy and Mama have put in for a SISTER for me! Yikes! It will be from the same breeder, and we will find out soon when we are getting her. I can't believe it! I won't be the Princess anymore! Mommy says not to worry, cause I'll be the Queen, and the new one will be the Princess. I don't know about this. I will reserve my affection until I'm sure it won't steal my thunder (or my treats)! I will be calling the sister "it" until Mama/Mommy bring it home and it gets a name.

3) Mommy is super excited because Ellen DeGeneres and Portia deRossi are getting married! She wants to go to the wedding. I'm sure they would love to have a Newfoundlander there, wouldn't they? Mommy thinks she would be a fabulous addition, seeing how she is such a proponent of same-sex marriage and equal rights and stuff. Plus, Mommy wants to be married herself someday, and going to Ellen's wedding would give her some great ideas. :)

4) A great friend in Schnauzers Rule, Velvet passed away a few days ago. We will miss her, and are sad to see her leave, but trying to think of her, happy and pain free at the bridge.

5) There are only 7 days till my birthday! I wonder what I am getting!?! Mommy says I will get a new toy or two. Mama says that the new backyard fence will cost enough! But Mommy says that if the fence doesn't go up this week, Mama will be single (!), so Mama went and got the materials, and started digging the holes for the posts today!!! Whoo-hoo, Mommy will stay! She was joking... I think. BOL :)

love you all,

Yesterday was my fourth session at agility, and Mommy said it was my breakthrough week! I don't know what it was exactly, did I just get it? Or was I more comfortable, or more excited than usual? Either way, after the warm up, I was more than ready to do that teeter (stretched out flat, for us beginners), go through that hoop, and jump over the jumps! Sure, I'm the only pup there with two handlers (Mama handles me, while Mommy runs ahead and convinces/encourages me to come!), but that doesn't phase me, and all the other pups are jealous that I have such a great cheerleading team!

So, to sum up:

I did the teeter three times, and am practicing "floor" so that I don't jump off the apparatus too quickly

I did the tunnel four times and I only turned around to come out once! The last two times I did it, I even did it with a curve in the tunnel, and I ran right through it!

I jumped through that pesky tire at the lowest height, and I did not put on the brakes this time.

I did the weave poles twice. I don't like them so much.

I did the A-frame twice. It's too high for me, so Mama puts me up at the top and I walk down. I don't like that one either.

The breakthrough is that I barely hesitated at all this time! Everyfur in my class is so proud of me, because I don't put on the brakes nearly as much as I did in weeks one and two!

Bark to you all later!

Today was my third Sunday of agility classes (Mommy calls it school). It was pretty good!!! We did a few new apparatuses today, including the jump through the hanging circle, and the dog walk. I jumped over the bar three times, with just a bit of prompting. I did the dog walk starting at the flat part, and then walking across it with Mama's hand in my collar to guide me. I didn't like that so much. I went down each time though. I really have a problem going up and pretty much put on the brakes real hard and drag my back legs when Mama tries to get me to go up. It is the same for the A-frame, I will not go up, but I will go down. The trainer says that's okay, we just will take our time. (It is the same at home, I hate going up stairs. Mommy is not sure what to do about that! Any hints anyone?)

I did the tunnel all by myself, this week, twice at a short length and twice at full length! I like that one, and the last few times I didn't even need very much prompting.

We did the table, where you jump up on a short platform and have to stay there for 5 sec. with all elbows planted firmly. Well after much cajoling I jumped up, and even sat, but would not lie down. Still, this is a big improvement for me. I did the weave poles once too. That one is hard, and I don't really know what to do!

All my school buddies' moms and dads are saying how much difference they can see in my confidence and that I am obviously enjoying it more now!

So far mommy and mama are saying that they are getting "WAY" more exercise than I am, becaause I have to be convinced and pleaded with to do any of it. Still, everyone thinks that I just have typical schnauzer in me, and that I will do it when I am good and ready!!!!

I had a very good Easter. I went to my nanny's and had a lot of fun playing and getting treats. Nanny is old (88!) and I always treat her gentle. She loves playing with me and smoothing me down, and I am always the centre of attention there. It's great. I almost didn't want to come home!

How's everypup's weather? Today we are getting 4 more centimetres of snow, and mommy is threatening to move to Florida if spring doesn't come soon. A lot of my pup friends live in the U.S. and it seems a lot nicer there weather wise! Still, come July, I appreciate it up here!

Hope you are all well!

Mommy has been exchanging emails and photos with Lexie & Buddy's mom, and Skeeter's mom. Both of them live in the United States, and have considerably different weather from us. Skeeter's mom already has beautiful flowers in her garden! Mommy loves that she has made new friends that she can share photos with! It's so neat to see other parts of the world.

Today is just as bad as yesterday, storm wise, except that instead of snow we have freezing rain. Mommy took me out to do my business, and let me tell you, I didn't waste any time! I am back inside in the warm and dry, and listening to the cracking and pounding of the rain and ice. Mommy's gone to the university, and I hope she comes home soon to snuggle and play!

Mom is really into folklore, she's doing something called a Ph.D. in it. So here is some of the stuff she tells me about.

Ides of March - Beware of the Ides of March warned the soothsayer to Julius Caesar (play written by Shakespeare). Well, that part is literature, but the folklore part of it is that lots of people still have a feeling of uneasiness and will change plans accordingly to avoid mishap (Caesar croaked that day). A metaphor for impending doom on the 15th of the month.

St. Patrick's Day - a popular holiday and celebration by Irish and non-Irish people. Celebrated this year on the 17th, the provine of Newfoundland & labrador is the only Canadian province to have a public holiday!

Sheila’s Brush - There is a Newfoundland folkloric belief that there is always a fierce storm after St. Patty's Day, and it's called "Sheila's brush". Sheila was, according to legend, either St. Patrick's wife, sister, or housekeeper and she has to clean up after him, after the day's celebration. The snowfall is a motif for her sweeping up the mess with her brush. Will be the 18th or 19th of the month.

So there you have it pups, now you know some folklore!

Mommy went to bed safe and secure in the knowledge that all was right in the Dogster world. When she got up this morning and checked, all heck had broken loose! T-Bone was thrown in the kennel for a picture that was on his page (deemed inappropriate), and his page was locked for a while. And on Schnauzers Rule, one of my favorite hangouts, Sam's Stinky Dog Cafe, has been shut down! Why, you ask? I don't know! I don't know what could have been posted that was inappropriate for a child to read. And they won't tell us what it was! It was a nice place to hang and shoot the breeze, and it's an injustice, I tell you! I think the admin should have just removed the offensive post with a warning, not shut down the whole thing. Still, I guess the admin have to answer to Dogster, and it must be hard shoes to have to be in.

I still miss my morning Starbarks coffee at Sam's cafe though. Maybe it will re-open soon.

love you all,

Mommy and Mama took me to Pippy Park again yesterday. It is a beautiful walk on the snowy trails, and especially nice on Sundays because there are lots of other people and doggies walking there. There is so much pee-mail to smell, and lots of humans that give me attention! But the funniest thing happened this time. Mommy brought a bag full of seeds and nuts, and was feeding the birds! She held out her arm with seed in her hand, and the birdies were LANDING on her hand! Holy moly, the NERVE of them! I mean, I understand being hungry and all that, but to land on MY mommy? Sheesh! I barked my head off at those nervy little birdies, but they didn't care at all. Mommy said they are tame, and that lots of people feed them in the park. She said they were black-capped chickadees and finches. I don't care what they were, nobody touches my mommy without permission!

Then I saw one of those fluffy brown squirrels. It squeaked at me, taunting me. It got just high enough so that I couldn't do anything but stand at the bottom of the tree, with my paws outstretched on the trunk, and bark at it. Those squirrels sure are pesky! Mom said next time she'll bring them some peanuts. WHATEVER!

I am proud to say I am also nominated for the Schnauzers Rule 1st Pawcademy awards for best diary. This is a huge honour, and I am so happy. Mommy sure is nice to type my words out for me. I am nominated with some wonderful company, and I will be happy no matter whatever pup wins! Me and Mommy had a lot of fun picking our choices on the ballot, and can't wait for the awards ceremony tonight. My boyfriend Skeeter is going to pick me up, and I am going to wear my pearls!

hope you are all having a pawsome day!

I was on a lovely walk in the rain. Mommy was so nice to take me out, even though she knew she would have to bathe me after. I LOVE going on walks. Well, we were minding our own business, when I had to "go". You know what I mean. Well, I never "go" on the sidewalk, I always find some nice grass or snow, and well, it takes me a few minutes, I have to circle and find just the right spot. After I did, mommy picked it up in a dog waste bag, mommy is a responsible dog owner. Do you know that a lady saw us and came out of her house and got mad, saying that she would prefer that the dog (me!) not do *that* on her lawn? Well mommy, showed her the bag and assured her that she picked up after me, and she said "that's not the point, I've got young children!"

Well, I never! Mommy was pretty offended too.

Both Mommy and Mama have really bad colds. Mama is taking pills for her asthma on top of having the bad cold, which is viral. Neither mommy or mama have been very energetic, and I have had to watch over them sleeping. I was worried the first day, because Mama had to go get a chest x-ray, and when she came back, she didn't look too good. She didn't smell too good either - the hospital has a funny smell. I decided I wasn't going to leave her side. She said I was a really good dog for keeping her warm and nuzzling her in bed. But then Mommy got sick, so I had TWO humans to take care of! Phew. What responsibility. What work! We have had some nice family time through it all though, watching the Westminister Kennel Club dog show, and snuggling a lot. And it does seem like the two mamas are over the worst. I sure hope so. I have never seen so many tissues in my life!

Happy Valentines everydoggie!

Mommy took me on a winter walk in the woods around Kent's Pond today! It was fabulous. We walked and ran a lot , which is great, because Mommy is not much of a runner. Because there was about 5 more centimeters of fresh snow, I got to see lots of unusual tracks, rabbits, squirrels, other dogs, and birds. I traced the rabbit tracks around and around, but I never got to see one. They sure smell great though! I dragged Mommy through parts of the woods that didn't even have a beaten down snow path, just so I could keep tracking them. Mommy says she didn't know that schnauzers were like that, she says I remind her of a bloodhound or something. I told her, "Mommy, I'm a ratter!" which means I can track any small vermin! I did come face to face with a squirrel though, who had the decency to look terrified of me), but then it took off up a tree. I stood there with my front paws on the tree trunk, barking up at it. I showed him!

It was a great walk. When Mommy and I got home 45 min. later, she shook all the snow balls off my legs and beard. Mommy is so nice. I think I'll nap now.

My friend Jelly asked what kind of job I would get if I wanted a job. Well I think that I am very good at two things, and so there was not contest to the jobs I would get! I would definitely be either a security guard - I can spot bad guys a mile away, or a personal alarm security system, because I can sound a deafening alarm! The security guard might be harder because I think you would have to be a bit quieter, in order to catch the bad guy in the act, and I don't know if I could do that, because I would get so excited, I would want to "arrooooo!" really loud. I think I would probably be a better personal alarm security system, sounding the alarm as soon as there was a potential intruder. For instance, when anyone walks up the street, I know instantly, and sound the alarm as soon as they get within walking distance of our house. And when those darn deliveries come, sheesh, Mommy even lets them in! I sound the alarm anyway, because she might realize the danger!

What a cool question. What would you be if you had a job?

Mommy tried to do it while I wasn't looking, but I caught her stealing my toys and taking them into the study where she was performing surgery! She said that my toys needed surgery since I disemboweled the stuffing out of them! Then she took out a WHOLE BAG of stuffing for toys. It was so exciting. I sat like a good pup and wagged my tail while she sewed up Hippo #2, Hippo #3, and Hippo #4 (Hippo #1 is not saveable, she's said). She also fixed seahorse, mouse and monkey. Now I have toys that are stuffed like new! Sure monkey and mouse had to have amputations to their legs, but they are still good. As she finished sewing up one, she would throw it to me and I would play with it for a bit, but then go back and watch her sewing up another one. It was very interesting. Mommy is so talented.

I have been tagged by my good pal Jelly in a new Valentine Day's tag. This is just so much fun!

If you have been tagged by one of your pals , then you should create a diary entry that lists 5 of your special wishes for Valentine's Day! Follow that with the names of 5 of your Dogster pals. Then, go and "tag" each of these 5 pals with either a p-mail or rosette! Gotcha!!!!! Sure a great way to share
Valentine Fun!

My 5 Valentine Wishes are....

1. I hope that we don't have that big snow blizzard that is forecast, because then I have to wear my booties when I go out
2. I hope all my pals have an extra nice Valentines Day.
3. I hope that the mommies don't spend too much time on that darn Wii, because for something named "we", I sure am not included!
4. I hope that nanny comes over soon so I can get more cuddles!
5. I hope that I get some more toys for Valentines Day because I've destroyed all my Christmas ones!

My Five Pals that I'm tagging are
Lexie
Tater Tot
Sasha

A weird tick, resolved!

I was making a weird action, sort of like a tick. I did it from the time I was 5 months till I was about 10 months old. I would be fine, then swing my head back quite fast, and sniff the air. It would be like bending my head toward my back. It would last a few seconds, but I would do it repeatedly, multiple times a day. Mommy got concerned and took me to the vet, but we couldn't figure it out. First we changed foods a few time, because we were concerned that I was allergic to my food. But that didn't stop it.

What did we figure out, you ask? Well, around the time the seasons change was when it got the worst. My vet suggested that maybe I had POST-NASAL DRIP and that's what was causing me to swing my head back in such a weird way. She prescribed me antihistamine oral pills that I take every twelve hours, and they work. I stopped doing it! The dripping was making my throat itchy, and that was causing my weird behaviour. The vet thinks that it is because I am allergic to grass and hay. I was the worst in the spring and summer, and then again in fall turning to winter.

Mommy puts the pill in my food, and I am usually too smart for that and spit it out. She then catches me and throws it to the back of my throat and massages my neck until I swallow it. It really is small, so not a big deal. But it stopped the tick!

I still hate pills, but mommy is glad that I am feeling better.
bark to you soon!

I love my mommy and my mama. Ever since they picked me up, I knew that mama was alpha, the one who led the pack, and that I could trust her. I knew that these humans were my moms, and that they were going to love me as much as my puppy pack and furmom loved me.

Mama plays rough with me, and I love it! We horse around when she comes back from work, and as soon as I see her pull into the driveway, I start to wiggle my tail and whine for her. I can't wait to see her! She's not home a lot, so I have to make every minute count. Even though she works a lot to put kibble in the bowl and food on the plates, I know that she is always coming home, and that I can snuggle into her at night.

Mommy is my primary caretaker. She is the one who feeds me, walks me, and cleans up after me. She is also the softer one, so we play fetch and do training instead of rough housing around. I like that just as much though, as a pup can't be wild all the time!!!! BOL. Mommy stays home and works on her thesis, and is only gone to teach one course at the university, so I spend a lot more time with her. Mommy lets me curl up in her lap after a good play, and I will fall asleep while she is reading her coursework and drinking her coffee. I have to put up with coffee-smelling kisses, but it's worth it, because her lap is really padded nicely, and it is SO comfy! Mommy also takes me on long walks and makes sure I'm socialized with other doggies, so that's really great.

I love my moms. They are the best family a doggie could have.

I have had so much fun at Schnauzers Rule group this year! Christmas was especially good, we sang songs, played games, and had great chats over the forums. We had a Christmas card exchange, and I got *way* more cards than Mommy or Mama. Mommy even made a whole scrapbook page that holds my Christmas cards in an envelope! The holidays were a lot of fun. Finnegan made a great "12 Days of Schnauzmas" song, you just have to read it. I'm in it! See it here: http://www.dogster.com/dogs/457313/diary/Finnegans_way/404316

Nanny Hutchings came and stayed for a few days, and I have visited Nanny and Poppy Moore too. It's always great to see my cousin Sonny, even though he's like 80 lbs. heavier than me!

I got some great loot for Christmas, as you can see in my stocking picture above. I got a new fleecy blanket that is in Christmas plaid colours, and it is so soft. I love to lie on it. I got lots of new toys and some treats too, including bully sticks. I *love* bully sticks!

There is a lot of snow here these days, and for awhile I refused to go potty in it, because it was too darn cold! Mommy was at her wit's end, because I would "hold it" and then demand to go out at 5:30 a.m.! Luckily I gave that up!

Hope everyone has a great year in 2008. I hope it is as good as 2007. I am a very blessed pup to have such great friends through Dogster. Thank you to the higher power for letting Tater Tot get better. And sending hugs to all the pups at Rainbow Bridge whose time it was. I love you all!

I am so happy, mommy got my photo Christmas cards today, from Shutterfly! She is really pleased with them. I am going to send cards to my friends in Only Pups and Schnauzers Rule! They are so beautiful!

In other news, it is getting really cold here. Mommy makes me wear my coat every day. This morning we had snow on the ground, but I didn't wear my new booties, because Mommy hasn't taken them out of the package yet! Sheesh! We went out on a great walk, but I had to get a foot bath to get my tootsies warm and cleaned. I really hate water, and getting baths. Apparently most schnauzers hate water. I have to get bribed to get in the bath. Usually I get a yummy AKC liver treat that mommy gets from Walmart. I suppose I'll put up with it for one of those!

I hope all my American friends have a fabulous Thanksgiving Holiday!

Because it’s Thanksgiving time, there is a change to the rules. Each player needs to tell seven special things they are thankful for. Tagged dogs must post the rules in their diary and their 7 things. Then choose 7 pups to tag and list their names. Let them know by pawmail or rosette that they have been tagged and to read your diary for the instructions on how to play.

Seven Things I’m Thankful For:

1. I’m thankful that there are people like Sydney's mom and Maddie's mom who adopt doggies at shelters.
2. I’m thankful for my mommy who makes sure I don't get cold by getting me sweaters, coats and fleecys to wear in the winter.
3. I’m thankful for mama who plays "rough" with me - I love it!
4. I’m thankful for doggie day care where I can play with other dogs once a week (I'm an only pup, BOL!)
5. I’m thankful for yummy home made treats that mommy makes me (yum for real cheese and bacon biscuits)
6. I’m thankful for all the friends mommy has made on Dogster and in particular in the groups Only Pups and Schnauzers Rule!
7. I’m thankful that mommy and mama decided to get me, because we make a great family!

I love my nanny Hutchings. She plays with me, and cuddles me and smoothes down my fur. It's great. She comes to visit once a month or so, for the WHOLE weekend. Sometimes I go to her house too, but I like it better in my house, because I have all my toys here!

Mommy said something about starting school again, and that I would have to spend more time in my crate. It's an injustice I tell you! I can't believe they don't let me roam the house when they're gone. I wouldn't chew anything up! I would stand guard, like the good schnauzer I am! Mommy says I bark too much out the window and that I will annoy the neighbours. Poo on that. Anyhoo, I am only crated for 3 hours at a time now. Do you think an increase of an hour will be bad? Will I get bored? Will I probably just sleep? Mommy needs some reassurance. See she's starting her thesis and she needs lots of time to write. She is trying to figure out a schedule that will allow her time to work, but that won't guilt her (cause she's thinking of me in the crate).

So, fellow pups, this I ask. How does this schedule sound? Mommy knows she is being paranoid, but she loves me so much, and she wants me to have a good life. Yet, if she doesn't finish her thesis, she'll go crazy. She figures she needs 5-6 hours a day of work. This would work if she actually wrote from 9-12, and 2-4 p.m.

7:30 a.m. Get up. Go outside.
8:00 a.m. eat breakfast.
8:10-8:45 play.
9:00 a.m. go in crate
12:00-1:00 p.m. Mommy comes home, lets me out.

1:00 - 2:00 Walk outside. Play. Bark out window.
2:00 p.m. Go back in crate
5:30 p.m. Mommy works at home, I am in crate.
5:30 p.m. Freedom again.
6:00 p.m. Supper and nighttime walk, play.
10:00 p.m. Cuddle with moms.

Please advise! If this is too harsh, I will inform mommy immediately!

I’ve been summer tagged by my pal Montgomery!

Here are the rules for the game. Make a diary entry giving 5 pawsome facts about yourself. Choose 5 pals to tag and list them last. Post the rules of the game. Send your pals a paw mail or rosette letting them know they have been tagged to play the game.

- I love to eat. I guess every dog does. I especially like human food like cheese, chicken and popcorn (in very small quanitites!)

- I love to play fetch with all my toys

- I despise when mommy swiffers/sweeps, I growl and try to go for that mean stick that's hurting her!!! I usually get put in the crate for this.

- I can be a bit bad. When mommy gets ready to take me on a walk, I nip at her sneakers when she's trying to put them on! Mommy says "we're working on that!" Humph. I am just excited!

- I get two walks a day, at half an hour each. Sometimes longer!

Holy moly, what a great time I had! My two moms took me to Traytown and Terra Nova National Park in Newfoundland, for five nights. We stayed in a really neat cabin, and I got to do all sorts of neat things, like canoe, go on nature walks in the woods, and see all sorts of other dogs whose owners were on vacation too. See, the mommies would only go to a place that allowed dogs, so I was in good company, there was an Airedale doggie, a basset hound, a few golden retrievers, and some other doggies too. It was the best. We all got to smell each other, and because it was a campground type area, there was lots to sniff: trees, woods, a playground, a mini golf station, and who could forget the nearby wildlife! I saw lots of birds and a bunny, and I think I even smelled a moose! Mommy Sarah and Mama Deb took me on TONS of walks. It was the best trip ever.

One thing that I did that was the coolest was get to go in a canoe! We got a canoe at Sandy Pond in Terra Nova, and I even got to wear a special lifejacket (for some reason, the mommies don't believe I could swim!). I felt really safe next to Mama Deb, and mommy Sarah was even good enough to get some photos. The park staff thought I was really cute too.

It was really hot weather the whole time! I have never felt such heat! Mommy Sarah said it was 30 C, with a humidex of 36 C on two of the days. I had lots of naps on those days.

All in all, it was a super vacation for me. I am so lucky to have moms who take me everywhere! I'm glad to be back though, in my own home, where I can bark at all the passerbys through the window, and read up on my friends at Dogster whenever I want!

The rules of the game is that when you get love-tagged, you get a message from a doggie saying what they like about you! Then it's your turn, you have to tag three doggies/kitties that you think are great, and why! You can send a message or a rosette, or both!

You know, my mommies love me so much. I thought I would take the time to write and say how happy I am that they give me such a nice home. I know I am more fortunate than lots of other puppies and doggies who are in shelters, and it makes me sad to think about them. But I am so happy that my two moms chose me as theirs. I have a nice bed to sleep on, and two fantastic nans who cuddle me whenever I am visiting. I get yummy chicken with my kibble for every meal. They make sure I go to the vet every year to get a checkup, plus whenever anything goes wrong. I go to the groomer every 6 weeks so I can look pretty. They comb my fur out so I don't get tangles. They walk me every day. I get to go lots of places that are exciting, like seeing icebergs, or going to Cape Spear. I even get to go on Nature Walks at Kent's Pond, or on the barrens in Portugal Cove with my dogsitter Jill. I get to go to Doggie Country Camp with my pal Jason and all the other doggies, Ruxie, Connor, Harold & Eric, and Sammy. I have a great giant cousin, Sonny, who likes me. I have a Poppy who gives me excellent belly rubs.

I love my life, mommies. Thank you for getting me.

Hi everypup!

I am one year old! I had an awesome weekend of fun and playing and treats, all because of this thing they call "birthday!" I'm not sure what it means, but they kept saying "one" and "good puppy" and giving me prezzies! I got a new tennis ball/football, and a purple mouse toy. The ball squeaks and bounces, it's really cool and mommy Sarah gave it to me. Auntie Jill gave me the purple mouse and it squeaks. I've already torn the stuffing out of it and now mommy Sarah has to perform surgery on it so I can play with it some more. Mama Deb gave me some bully sticks which I love!

But you know what was the best part? I had a birthday party! Can you believe it? Mommy Sarah made up homemade scrapbooked invitations and invited all my favorite people over - Auntie Jill and Uncle Ed, Aunt Sue and Uncle Adam, Nanny and Poppy. It was great! I got to play and run around and eat homemade bacon biscuits that mommy Sarah made for me. Then Uncle Adam took me for a walk. It was the best day ever. If this is what a birthday is about, then I'm all for it!

Thank you everypuppy for the sweet rosettes and stars and birthday wishes. I love them all so much. You all mean so much to me. Oh dear, mommy's getting verklempt again. Silly mommy cries too much - she's so sentimental!

I hope everydoggie is having a good spring. It is rainy here and full of mud. Summer doesn't start until June around here, so it's still kind of cold and damp. That's what Newfoundland is like! At least mommy takes me on walks every day no matter what. I love her so much!

bark to you all soon. Love you all!

Lovely Miss Annie, Kiki and Buckie tagged me.

Here are the rules:

Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Dogs who are tagged, need to post in their Diary the rules & their 7 pawsome facts. Then choose 7 dogs to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to bark them a pmail that they have been tagged and to read your Diary, or, send them a fun Rosette announcing they've been Tagged!

So here are 7 fun facts about Rudy....
1) I love yogourt, and often share a small container with my mommy. I eat all kinds, vanilla, plain, raspberry, peach. I especially like the probiotic kind.

2) My dog trainer Chris calls me "little girl."

3) I have perfected the art of barking at possible intruders (really just normal people walking up the street) while standing on my hind legs, looking out the front bay window.

4) If I'm in the jeep, I like to try to climb on top of mommy when she's driving. It's distracting, so she either belts me in or takes me in her lap so I can co-drive.

5) I have a little morning routine, where I get up, eat my breakfast, go outside, have a play, and then have a morning nap, all within an hour.

Okay, I tag:

Rocky
Rudy
Jelly
Doolin
kodak

I'll be watching for your posts! Tee hee, this is fun!

In a few days I am going on vacation to my "auntie" Jill's house! She has a husky named Ranger, and she always has other doggies over to visit. It is going to be so much fun! You see, mommy and mama Deb are going south for a vacation for a short spell, and they would never trust my care with just anyone, but auntie Jill loves to take care of doggies, and I love her so it was settled. On Saturday I will get a whole week playing and running with Ranger, and I'll get to snuggle with Jill. I just hope I don't miss the mommies too much. I hope they keep me so busy I won't notice. Mama said something about not wanting to go and leave me, but geez, I think I'm gonna be fine!!!!! What's not to love about playing for a whole week with other doggies?

Aww, I 'spose I'll miss them a bit. :) Don't worry mommies, I'll take care of everything till you get home!

It's been a few days now, seems like longer, that Joker has been at Rainbow Bridge. Mommy Sarah has been sad that he had to leave us so soon, and sad that his daddy Mickey has to try and be strong for Rascal and the rest of the family. It happened so soon, and it doesn't seem fair. Joker was an angel on earth, though, and I know he is an angel up at the Bridge, playing and jokin' around like only Joker can do. We will miss him so much, and we are keeping his wonderful daddy and family in our hearts.

Pops (Rascal and Joker's dad) is part of the All Fur Fun group, which decided that I was going to be the Pup of the Week, and then Pops drew me this beautiful graphite portrait! Can you believe it? Mommy is so excited! She thinks it is so true to life (you can see the original photo in my photo book above).

The snow is almost melted here, but we are having another cold snap (see my new weather indicator?). I wish Spring would arrive, I want to smell the grass! A lot of other areas have spring already, I am ready!

Yesterday I had a play date with the huskies Ranger and Spencer, at my dogsitter Jill's house. We had SO much fun! Even though I'm only small, I think I'm big, and I play with those dogs like I am just as tall as they are! We even went off leash on the barrens for a while, and Jill said I was real good!

Thankfully I'm better now! But it was tremendously yucky - I had uncontrollable diarrhea! My mommies were so worried that they took me to the vet after 48 hours of it, and it was a good thing they did, because puppies are especially prone to getting bacteria in their stomach, which is what happened to me!!! The vet imagines that I ate something bad, like rotted grass under some old snow, or maybe something even more vile like poop! I go to puppy day care a few times a week, and it could have been there that I ate something. They can't keep human eyes on me constantly, bwah ha ha ha ha! Anyhoo, they made me take some antibiotics which mommy mixed up in some yummy wet food for gastrointestinal problems that the vet gave her. Geez, if this is how I get fed (along with chicken and rice) then I should be sick more often! (I barked that to mommy and she glared at me - guess cleaning up after me wasn't so pretty... BOL!)

Anyway, after 5 days of medicine, I am completely better, but needless to say, mommy Sarah won't let me go the length of myself without checking to see if I'm "eating" anything funny. Humph!

Well puppies, I think I have done some pretty spectacular things, like travel in the car, on a plane, get groomed, and (gasp!) get a spay. I have even gotten training and gone to puppy camp. But the worst, oh the worst, has got to be these darn snowstorms. I can't believe there would be such a cruel thing for a puppy like me, just minding her own business, trying to do her business. All of a sudden, wind blowing up my jacket, whipping my beard, white stuff coming out of nowhere, and it's wet! I *hate* being wet. Not only that, I can't even find my normal place to do "hurry ups". It sucks.

Tonight there was a big snowstorm, my third if you can believe it! Anyway, I was being REALLY good, mommy said, but Mama Deb wasn't here (she flew to Ottawa for business yesterday) and that threw me off somewhat. Between missing her, and that nasty wind howling, the lights blinking, and that snow stuff hitting the window, well, I peed. On the white carpet in the bedroom. Mommy said it was okay though. She thinks I was a little scared, since I haven't peed in the house in 3-4 months. Anyway, she bundled me up in that big snowsuit she has and took me out in the blizzard. I did another pee then, and she praised me, and then I did my OTHER business and I got LOTS of praise. We are inside the warmth by the fire now, and am I sure glad.

This snowstorm stuff is for the birds. Actually, it's not even for them!

hiya everypuppy!
I am doing much better from my spay. On Friday I went to get my stitches out, and the vet said I was doing perfectly. That's good news! My mommy has noticed that I have my full energy back, and my appetite is getting back slowly. I am now up to almost 1 cup of food a day again, which is a relief. I am now up to 14 lbs if you can believe it!

Today my moms put up this weird thing called a Christmas tree. It has 1000 lights on it, and it's really bright and interesting. I tried to chew on the bottom branches, but mommy Sarah got really mad and ran at me yelling and spraying that yucky spray bottle. I didn't like that ONE BIT. So I did what she calls "puppy skitz" where I run around the living room in circles over and over. Ha ha, that taught her. :)

My nan came over for the weekend and I got lots of cuddles and love. She is nice. And she always has kleenex in her pockets which I can easily steal. It's great!

bark to you later! Happy Holidays!

Owie. I am just writing to let you all know that I had my spay surgery today. I am very sleepy but I am okay. My mommies are taking such good care of me, they are so attentive! They even brought me my dinner in bed, and fed me water from a spoon so I could reach it. That was pretty cool, because I've never had dinner when I was laying down before. I think they were really worried because I saw Mama Deb get teary-eyed, and she's the tough one! Mommy Sarah had to hold the pack together. I am now lying on the couch between the two mommies and I have mr. Hippo with me so I am alright. I will write more tomorrow when I feel a bit better.

Hi Santa Claus,
My name is Rudy and I am a Very Good Girl. I only ate mommy's slippers once, and that toilet paper roll thing is too tempting to ignore! It's not my fault! Other than that I have been Very Good. I let mommy rub my belly and brush me and I am going to advance to obedience school soon after doing great in puppy socialization!

For Christmas I would like some toilet paper rolls, some of those great venison and hoki fish jerky treats, and a new stuffed toy to play with. I also want all the doggies in the world to have loving homes. I love other doggies so much, and I always hope they are as lucky as me!

Santa, today I saw my first snow! It was really cool! I got to sniff it and taste it, and I think I liked it. I need to see a bit more of it though, just to make sure. Maybe you could bring me some muttluk booties, since mama Deb says we get snowstorms, whatever they are.

Take care Santa and I will be waiting with milkbones!

I have a new friend, and her name is Maggie! She is a schnoodle (a white schnauzer, poodle mix) and boy is she ever fun! We met when I went walking up the road, she only lives about 5 minutes away! She was out for a pee with her mommy Jennifer, when me and mommy walked up, and she bounded right over to us! Then we rolled in the grass and played and kissed and all sorts of stuff. Mommy was so proud of me, I sure know how to play now! I think it took me awhile to figure it all out, but I am a pro now, after going to puppy daycare 3 times.

Maggie is from PEI too. She and her mommy are sure nice, and she is only 2 months older than me! Maggie's mom said we should drop by after supper sometime to go on a walk, after a little play, of course! It is so great to have a real live friend.

I am very sleepy now. I had a very active play and then a good walk up to our usual spot. Then mommy took me home and I ate some lunch. I will bark to you later!

I had a very BIG and IMPORTANT day. First of all, Mama Deb took me in the car at 8 a.m., and I've never gotten to go in the car that early. Then we were driving and we stopped in an unfamiliar place. I knew something was up. Wait a second. I met this guy before. It's Chris, my trainer!!! Wag, wag, wag. I like him!

WAIT A SECOND. There are other dogs here! Holy cow, there's four more dogs! What is this strange and wonderful place?

It turns out it was doggie daycare, and my mommies enrolled me to go once a week so I could get doggie socialization, since I am shy around other dogs. Chris said I did very well, I even lasted till 4 p.m., even though he wasn't sure I would be okay. I was very brave. I got to sniff all the other doggies, who, by the way, were much much bigger than me. There was even a border collie; I really liked him. The cocker spaniel tried to teach me how to play, but I wasn't sure how to do it, so I mainly just stared at him. The trainer says I will catch on soon enough, I'm just so used to playing only with humans.

Chris took us all on a walk, and I loved it. I got to take a nap and hang out with the big boys. All in all I had a good time. It was a bit stressful, just because I was never in that situation before, but next week I'm going again, and I think I'll get even more out of it, now that I know that Mama Deb is coming back to get me.

I'm the luckiest dog in the world!
Bark you later,

I had the *best* walk today. My mommies took me to Pippy Park for the first time! I met other doggies, lots of people, and got to go on a NATURE walk! There was tons of stuff to smell! Ahh, the fresh autumn air, the moss, trees, bark, leaves, dirt, pine trees, I could have stayed there all day! Meanwhile, the mommies wanted to see how long a walk I could do, and I went as long as they did, without getting tired at all! At least mommy Sarah thought to bring me cold water. So all of the little hills on the woodchip trail didn't faze me one bit. Sure I ran for half the time!

On Friday night I had my puppy session with a reputable dog trainer in the area. He said I was a good puppy. I even sat nice and paid attention for most of the time. The trainer said he is going to show Mama Deb how to groom me, and how to learn how to think like a dog, because he said they are still thinking like humans. Silly mommies! Anyway, for some reason, both mommies were very very pleased at how good I was when we had company. Aren't I good all the time?

Anyway, time to go take another nap. I wouldn't tell them, but that walk/run wore me out! I hope they take me there again tomorrow.

Today was an odd day. I didn't get to play outside at all, which was really mean of the mommies, but due to Hurricane Florence hitting us, I guess I understand. But there was loads of leaves, small branches and "stuff" that I was just dying to play with! There was even a portion of the next door neighbour lady's fence on the ground! I really wanted to go and investigate, but mommy Sarah only let me do my pee and then I was dragged inside again. No fun at all! And I got all wet. I hate getting wet. And I hate wind. I especially hate wind because it blows stuff all around and then I get distracted from doing my business. I held it in until it stopped raining at suppertime. But I couldn't hold it in any longer so then I was a good little girl and told mama Deb I had to go. I still didn't get to play though.

So, then I ran around the house twenty or thirty times to get out my energy. Ha ha, Hurricane Flo has nothing on me!

bark to you soon!

Yippee - I love sticks. Really, I do! There was really long one that broke off our tree and I was smart enough to catch it before mommy Sarah did. Ha ha ha, and boy did I run! It's so much fun to dart in between her legs and try to get her winded. But today was even more fun than usual. Somehow the stick broke into TWO and then I had TWO sticks! I didn't know what to do - I already had the first half in my mouth, how could I get the other one in there? So I dropped the first one and picked up the second one. But that didn't fix the problem either! So I ran around with the second one for awhile, and then I ran back to the first one. Somehow I kept the first one in my mouth and picked up the second one!!! But then mommy Sarah was afraid I'd choke and she made me stop. I don't get that human - just when I succeeded in my quest!!!! Tomorrow I will try again.

hi, my name is Rudy, and my two moms are mean. They made me go to the nasty dog groomer and get groomed like a schnauzer. I do not like them anymore and have decided to withhold all affection for the entire afternoon. I have no idea why they would put me through something like that, having to get used to that nasty buzzing instrument called a razor, and geez, getting my ear hair plucked was AWFUL! My two moms at least had the decency to look horrified, even though they said it was for my own good. I'm pretty sure I wasn't bad, so I'm not sure what I did to deserve this. The only condolence was that I got to hang out with other doggies, and get to meet a new person. Then I got a cool puppy bandana to wear around my neck, so I suppose that was okay.

I've been shaking my head and ears a lot since I got home, I think that's normal. Mommy Sarah sure feels bad though. Good. I gave her one kiss to let her know I don't hate her.

At least that's done for another two months! Mommy Sarah will post pics soon of my new 'do!

My two moms have a really really nice girl here, her name is Kerry and she's mommy Sarah's friend from university. She loves and plays with me so much I don't think I'm going to let her leave! My favorite game is "give me my toy", although I had my very first game of fetch the stick, in the backyard a few days ago.

Since mommy is taking Kerry sight seeing a lot, I get to see some great places in Newfoundland! We already went to Signal Hill, Cape Spear, and the Colony of the Avalon, in Ferryland. Soon I will post some action shots that mommy took of me. I even have a smart looking Newfoundland tartan bandana. I got many compliments!

Talk to all you dogs and cats soon!

The past few days have been great. I even went on a few short walks on the pavement sidewalk! It was very exciting to get all those smells. I hurt myself though, :( when I jumped out of control and banged my neck on a water spout. I think I'm okay now, but my two moms were so worried. I can't help it, I just get so excited! Luckily I am fine, and did not hurt myself too seriously, I just got a fright more than anything.

hi pals!
Well, being just a baby, my two moms are going easy on me, but you know what, I'm learning anyway! The pee-training is coming along nicely, I even whined to go out this morning, instead of doing it on the floor! The only times I have accidents now are when I'm really excited after playing and mommy Sarah doesn't get me out in time!

Today I feel very smart. Mommy Sarah took me into her office at the university. There are so many books! I'm a little sleepy though, so folklore studies will have to wait.

Wow, it sure is fun in the backyard! I may be little, but I have got more than enough spunk to take on anything. I chased some leaves, did my pee, did my poop, and even responded when my owner said "sit". Pretty good for 8 1/2 weeks!

It was very humid today and I am pretty lazy tonight. I did my playing, played with my favorite orange hippo and squirrel toys, and snuggled with Sarah and Debbie. Life is good!
