Sparkee's mom here:

Sparkee's mom here:

It is with a heavy, devastated heart that I come
here to Sparkee's diary to inform all her pals that
she crossed the Rainbow Bridge August 28, 2009.

Thursday I had gone to run some errands, so I don't
actually know when or what happened.
When I get home, the first thing I do is let all the pups
go out to do their "business". When I let Sparkee go
out, she seemed normal except that she looked kinda
scared but I chalked it up to the lightning. We all
came in and I fed them. I think she ate but I'm not
100% sure because I was watching some of the others
to check if they were eating or not (sometimes some of
them decide to turn up their noses at what I'm serving!)
so I could pick up their bowls and put them up on the
counter. I don't want one of them to go eat someone
else's after they're done with theirs.

Anyway, as the night progressed, she started acting
weird. She started panting and acting nervous and
walking around like she needed to get somewhere
quick. She walked to a corner and was at a loss so
she sat down and cried. By this time, I'm freaked
out. I decided that she should sleep in the crate so
she maybe could feel secure. This morning she was
crying and howling (she never does this) to get out.
Her back was to the door and when I opened it she
didn't turn around. It was as if she didn't know
where she was or how to get out of where she was.
I patted her and called her name but she wouldn't
turn around. I finally got her out and carried her
outside. When I set her down she walked around but
I noticed that she was stumbling a little. I knew
something was horribly wrong when she ran into the
fence and the van and the tree and everything else. I
knew then that she couldn't see anymore. I knew she
probably had a stroke when I had been away for a while
Thursday.

I had been planning for sometime on taking Keighty to
the vet but now I knew that two pups would be going
instead. I felt down deep in my gut that the situation
with Sparkee didn't look too good. And I was right.
The vet said that it was probably a stroke or a brain
tumor and with her age she would be getting worse
instead of better and no meds were going to help her.
So her dad and I made the very hard decision to have
her put down.

They gave us time to be with her and we told her that
she was the best dog ever. She was never mean to
anyone dog or human. She was always happy in any
situation. We never had any problems with her ever.
And I thanked her for all this. I told her through my
tears, that we loved her and we were sorry that we
couldn't help her this time. I kissed her over and over
but I don't really think she had a clue what was going
on. I don't think she even knew where she was.
Then the vet came in and as her dad was holding her,
the vet started to do, you know. I thought I could stay
through the whole thing, but I just couldn't. I went to
the next room but I could hear the vet say she was gone.
That's when I really started to cry.

She was with us for 13 years and she really was the
best dog. She was the sweetest, kindest and happiest
pup up to Thursday. It happened so fast and she got
worse so fast. I knew with her age that one day she
was going to get sick and I would eventually lose her,
but this was just so unexpected. It totally threw me for
a loop.

Thank you, Sparkee, for the 13 wonderful years you
spent with me and for loving me.
I will forever love and remember you.

~Sparkee - 14 yrs.~

My contribution:

A man takes his Rottweiler to the vet and says,
"My dog is cross-eyed. Is there anything you can do for him?"

The vet says, "Well, let's have a look at him."
So the vet picks the dog up while examining his eyes.
Finally he says, "I'm going to have to put him down."

"What?! Just because he is cross-eyed?!"

"No, because he's really, really heavy."

Molly wrote to me and sent me this joke. We thought
it was funny even if mom took forever to get it!
Sheesh, mom, what is your problem??! What is so
hard to understand? Then she laughed at the joke
and herself 'cause it took her awhile. She didn't
snap that the rooster was saying this.

What do you get if you cross a cow with a spaniel,
a poodle, and a rooster?

Well, pups, today's my birthday. I'm 14 years old and
my mom's bummed out 'cause I'm getting older and
older and older. Seems like just yesterday I was a young
pup moving in with this family. It was just me and
Wishbone back then. We ran around. We played. We
acted silly.
Now we're stiffer, (Wishbone more than me) slower,
and a little deaf. We sleep alot more.
Old age! Man, what it can do to you!
But I still Rock when I'm outside running around and
barking at something. I don't act very stiff and slow
then!
And I'm still loved. Still looked after. Still spoiled but
in a different way. Now mom has to be more careful
when she picks me up. She makes sure the other pups
don't bump into me and she pushes them aside when
I go out the door.

I'm still happy so Happy Happy Birthday to me!

Well, mom put up some videos on my
page of the foster pups. Always playing.
Sheesh! I remember the good ol' days when
I used to play that way. *Sigh*.
Just a distant memory now . . .

Anyway, there's one of Conner and Diamond Lilly.
We had her for about a month. She's a real cutie!
She and another pup we had for about a week
are out on a trial basis but we think that the
people will make it official. We are so happy
that they are adopting both. They really loved
Diamond Lil and Cody. A picture of him will
follow.

Then there's one of that pup, Chelsea. She and
Conner loved to play. Mom sees her every
Saturday at PetsMart. She goes to puppy
classes there and that's where mom takes the
foster pups to adoption clinic. Seems mom is
going to puppy sit her in October.

Hope you enjoy the videos, even if I'm not in them!

If you check my pictures, there's some of another foster in our house. Poor pup. She needed help, so my mom said yes. She couldn't go to the other foster homes 'cause they had pups that ended up with parvo in the past. They survived. Those homes are "contaminated". I wonder how long it takes for all that yucky bacteria to go away?? Well, anyway, she's probably going to be adopted Saturday. She's not that bad. She's about 3 or 4 months old. It's not that I don't like them 'cause I do, but I guess my old body doesn't want them to knock me around anymore. So I think the foster pup picked up on that 'cause he doesn't really bother me. Mom said that I've gotten a bit slower and quieter lately. She really hates for us to get old. Too bad that's the way things go. Getting old really sucks!

Thank you for writing a diary entry after I spring tagged you. You have no idea how much that meant to me. We will always think of you, Elvis. We love you!

I finally got taped! Yep, you can see me in Redford's Birthday video. We got burgers and had some fun. Pig Keighty stole some of my burger. But I'm so mellow I never say anything. My mom saw her do it only after she watched the video. Mom was bugged with her 'cause she was trying to steal everybodies. She just always acts like she's starving (she's not). It's okay, I'm not mad. I'm always happy with anything.

Well, I have been tagged by Marley Bob.
I hope I can think of something to write about. I really don't do anything exciting. Here goes nothing.

*First, I have to name 4 jobs I have: I'm a very mellow pup who doesn't like to get involved in much. Hmmmmm . . . let me see . . .

1. To start every dog here barking when I hear something or even if I don't.

2. To sleep on my doggie beds under all my blankets. Mmmmmmm . . . I LOVE my blankets!

3. To make sure there's nothing suspicious going on when I go outside.

4. Sheesh! I can't think of another one! Maybe I'll put something in later when my bulb turns on.

*Second, I have to name 4 places where I have lived (or stayed at):

1. I have lived in Hobbs, 'cause that's where I was rescued from.

2. I was brought to Albuquerque, to the rescue group PACA. I lived with my foster mom then.

3. Some people adopted me, but after living with them for a while, they decided they didn't really want me. So instead of returning me to PACA (a rule in the contract) they put an ad in the paper stating I was for sale.

4. My forever mom saw that ad and went to see me and bought me right there and then. She didn't know I was a PACA dog until way later after doing some research. When my foster mom found out what the people did, boy, was she MAD. Anyway, I've been with my forever family for about 12 1/2 years.

*Third, I have to name 4 places I have been:

1. I have been in Hobbs, NM.

2. I have been, and am, in Albuquerque.

3. I have been to dog parks.

4. I have been to the vet's.

*Fourth, I have to name 4 places I'd rather be:

1. I'd rather be at the dog park even though mom says I'm getting kinda slow.

2. I'd rather be going for a ride in the van.

3. I'd rather be under my blankets when I have to go outside to do my "business".

4. I'd rather be eating a big juicy steak in a restaurant instead of eating my dogfood at home.

*Last, these are the pups I will be tagging:

1. Jordan
2. Mojotiki
3. Elvis
4. Freeway Golightly

*There, I'm finished!

Well, I guess I expected to be tagged by my loooong time buddy, my "sis", Wishy. That's okay. I don't mind.

Here are the rules:
Because it’s Thanksgiving time, there is a change to the rules. Each player needs to tell seven special things they are thankful for. Tagged dogs must post the rules in their diary and their 7 things. Then choose 7 pups to tag and list their names. Let them know by pawmail or rosette that they have been tagged and to read your diary for the instructions on how to play.

Seven things I'm thankful for:
1. I'm thankful for the home I have where I'm loved.
2. I'm thankful for those Marrowbones!
3. I'm thankful for dog parks.
4. I'm thankful for not having allergies (like Keighty, man oh man, does she ever scritch)!!
5. I'm thankful for still being able to jump up on the couch and the bed.
6. I'm thankful for Wishbone 'cause she still hangs with me.
7. I'm thankful for still being healthy.

Here's the 7 dogs I'm tagging:
1. Chet
2. Badger Hunter's Little Smokie
3. Kaci
4. Miss Grace
5. Rufus
6. Lola Bella
7. Buddy of Corolla
