Hi all...my pals Mika and Kai asked about my bells palsy and I figured I should probably do one more update. Here I am 5 months later and althought there was signficant improvement to the bells palsy, I wouldn't say I recovered 100%....maybe 75-80%? I don't droop anymore which is good :-). My right eye does close now when I sleep, but when I yawn, you can see my eye roll before the blink happens. Not sure if that makes sense. It's almost as though the blink is slow, but it gets there BOL!

Hey...I'm just grateful that it wasn't something else. I'm also grateful I didn't develop dry eye from it.

This will be the last entry on the bells palsy. Ususally recovery happens within the first 3-4 months and it's been 5 months. I would say I haven't seen any changes since mid November? End of November?

Thanks for all my pals who supported me. I sure hope this helps someone else one day. It's scary as heck when it first comes up. Thanks all!

Hi Friends....first, thanks to everyone for following along and for keeping up on the status of my Bells Palsy. The good news is mom is absolutely sure there has been improvement. Am I 100%? The short answer is no. But there is definitely improvement. I don't drool anymore at all. The right side of my face only droops slightly if I pant. It's pretty rare where the food gets caught in the corner of my mouth. The one thing there is only a little improvement with is the blinking. The right eye is definitely reacting, but not all the way. Maybe 50% or so? There is a reaction now when mom taps around the eye. In fact she thinks she may have seen one or two full blinks? I'm not sure though because just like in the beginning, mom wondered if she was imagining things BOL!

So, I will update again in two to three weeks and I am hoping for even more improvement. Thanks to all my pals!

Well, first just wanna say sorry for not updating the diary. Mom was trying not to think about it too much; to the point where she was imaging things...sound familiar? BOL!

Anyhoo, mom can't deny that there are very subtle changes. It's hard to describe it though. Mom sees the eye flinch a little when she pokes around it. She noticed the right side doesn't hang down as much. She noticed food isn't getting trapped anymore in between the gum and teeth like it was before. Still no blinking but she does see little subtle changes. The neurologist did say if there were going to be changes, we would see them between 8 and 12 weeks so I'm still going to be hopeful and HOPE to continue to see the changes even if they are subtle. Thanks everyone!

Ok...so we knew if there were changes, they would be slight. Well, yesterday morning mom did the hand to eye test. If you do that I should blink. Well, my eye blinked once...it was slight and quick! She did it again and nothing...a couple of more tries and I blinked! Mom got my other mommy. It took a few tries but there was a blink. Mom said, "are we imagining that? Did you see it"? and my other mom smiled and said YES.

Soooooo, one thing to keep in mind is that could be it...we don't know if it will get back to normal, where my progress starts. It's only been 5 weeks, so mom is happy. Mom also poked around the top of the eye and she thinks there is a little reflex.

Why does mom hesitate? Well, what if she WANTS to see it and it's not. Soooo, i'm glad she's writing this. We knew progress would be slow and slight. Let's keep hoping and praying we see it a little more!

Sooooo, mom came back from vacation. No noticeable changes. I don't know...i can tell you mom prays every day...every day she picks me up, hugs me and gives me a kiss and says "Scooter, i'm praying you get better".

Mom tries to tap around my eye...to see if there is any response or reaction. She noticed when she taps below my eye, my eye pupil flickers a little; if that makes any sense. Almost like my eye rolls a little. Then she looked at me yesterday while I was panting and said "scooter...is the right side of your mouth not drooping as much"? "maybe...maybe not".

It's so hard to say. I do know that changes comes slowly. Mom remembers the neurologist poked at my cheek to see if I reacted. She can't remember how he did it. The top of my lip near my cheek twitches, but she doesn't remember how to get it to do that so that she can compare with the other side.

anyhoo, keep the PoP going...praying...the good news is I'm not any worse, and I'm still producing teas which is awesome. Mom would hate to have to give me drops every day.

So it's been about 3 weeks since i experienced the facial paralysis. No changes and honestly, mom doesn't expect em yet. She thinks it's possible that I am a little more droopy on the right side of my face, but that's to be expected since am not able to use those muscles.

I'm still producing tears which is GREAT because one of the common problems is dry eye since I can't blink. I have had tear stains and mom is glad I have em. The doc said since i'm still producing tears, it probably means not every nerve was affected.

I'm not sure if I told ya, but one of the other problems could be developing mouth ulcers. Since I can't use the right side, sometimes food can get stuck between my gums and teeth. It's like I don't even know it's there. Dr. Gainsburg suggested a turkey baster BOL! Squirt some water in there. But mom doesn't do that. After each meal, she cleans off the right side of my face, sticks her finger in there to see if I have something. half the time I do, half the time I don't. May be a little disgusting, but it's quick and fast hehehehehe. Better than sticking a turkey baster in there BOL!

I also wanted to report that I didn't hear back from any of those who may have had previous experience with facial paralysis or bells palsy. It's a little disappointing, but I think in my own way, I didn't expect to hear anything since they don't appear to be active.

Anyhoo, I'm doing good. Mom goes on vacation next week, so my next update won't be for least 10 days or so. Let's hope and pray mom has a little bit of good news, but again, she doesn't want to get her hopes up since the doc did say 8-12 weeks.

Thanks everyone for your support...it means more than you can know. I feel kind of alone here since I don't know anyone else who has been through this, but my pals are right there for me. Thank you!

So today, instead of talking about my facial paralysis, let's talk about my obsession with food and ice. Oh and the tendon sitting on the kitchen counter.

Everyone knows I love food...you got it? I want it. My ice obsession comes from the sound of the rrrrrrrrrrr sound coming from the freezer. I'll be dead asleep and I hear that sound and I come a running! I'll take cubes, I'll take crushed ice, doesn't matter...I'll take em!

Or maybe Billy doesn't chew his tendon and mom puts it on the kitchen island. What do I do? I sit for about a half hour, staring at it. Keep in mind, mom is ignoring me grrrrrrr. Then I jump up on the crate thinking maybe, just maybe I'll get closer. That doesn't work so back down I go...staring at the kitchen island.

Mom says it's not healthy to be that obessed so she picked it up and threw it in the trash. Why in the world would she let that go to waste! She says, "Scooter, it's for your own good...you already had one...you can't always have everyone elses".

Patooey! That's what I say!

Thanks for making me a diary pick today Dogster!

So, here I am...on a Saturday night BOL! I sent messages to a couple of dogsters that were suggested in my Bell Palsy thread in the health forum:

http://www.dogster.com/forums/Dog_Health/thread/754561

I reached out to a couple of them and so far no luck in the last few days so I'm now reaching out to the rest. It didn't appear any of them were active by looking at their pages, but I'll give it a shot.

No changes here, but I don't expect any. I just want to say thanks to my pals. I don't want anyone to worry. I was hoping to find other dogs who have gone through this. I'm keeping the diary up because one day, you will have a pal who goes through it and they will say, "I wonder if anyone else can offer insight or feedback". You will say, "hey, scooter! she went through this!". So, that's really the main reason for the diary. I do hope to come back in a few weeks to several weeks and say guess what?! The paralysis went away! Either way, I'm still my same spunky, nutty, scootie doody BOL! Thanks pals!

Well, it's been one week past diagnosis. There are no changes and for now, mom takes that as a good sign. Dr. Gainsburg doesn't expect to see improvement for a few weeks.

I have to say it's been kind of hard. Mom is a googler and she hasn't found much on bells palsy in dogs. I also reached out in the health forum and apparently, no one else has been through this.

So now I'm glad I'm doing this diary. I hope it helps someone one day. I know not everyones case is the same, but just knowing that there's one other dogster, someone else who is going through something similar, would be a big help.

Anyhoo, thanks to all my friends who are giving me their support and checking in on me. I appreciate it!

So, I saw Dr. Chicken Strippy. First, I just gotta share. i remembered Dr. chicken strippy. Mom was shocked. If you know me, the humans don't excite me too much BOL! Well, when he came into the room, I was wagging and butt wiggling and I whined a little bit, and ran up to him. He said he remembered me too! He said you are the beagle that looks like a puppy and eats like a horse BOL! he remembered mom naming him Dr. Chicken Strippy for me hehehehehehe

Ok...so he he thinks I have bells palsy. He did a lot of nerve touch tests. I definitely have feeling in my ear, nose, top of my head. It's pretty much isolated to my right cheek, lower, upper lip, and right eye.

He checked my ears and said they looked great. He said he didn't believe it was a tumor because we would most likely see more neurologically. He did a full body neurological test and it's just isolated to the right side of my face.

Mom asked if it would go away and he said it's about a 50/50 chance and there was a small chance it would go to the other side of my face. If I am going to get better, it would be in the 8-12 week range, sometimes it happens earlier.

If mom sees any change neurologically or I become depressed, my behavior changes, he wants to see me again.

Not the best diagnosis, but given the other possible diagnosis, this is as good as it gets.

So, I can tell ya that you can't really tell the right side of my face is paralyzed unless I'm panting.  It's really noticeable then.  You might also notice I don't wink at ya with my right eye. ;)  Oh and about the fact my eye isn't blinking.  He did a tear stain/dry eye test and I'm still producing tears in that right.  He did say if mom notices changes in the eye, it's time for artificial tears.  He said there are 3 nerves that control the muscles in the face...it doesn't think it's all three nerves because I'm at least on day 5 and I'm still producing tears.  So that's a good thing =;

I think that's it. As far as we can tell, I'll be a-okay. No one knows what causes Bells Palsy, but this is better than the C word.

I pawmise to update this diary if there are any changes.

I wanted to add this to my diary so that maybe one day it can help others. I don't know what's coming down the road for me, but I did want to document my journey here.

Last Thursday, mom noticed I was drooling, which I rarely do. She didn't think much of it, but took a peek in my mouth to see if there was something there. Nothing, Nada...so she cleaned me up and let it go. Well, on Friday evening, she sees the drool again. This time she takes a really good look at my mouth and again, nada. She noticed it was a lot of drool. So, mom starts googling and that's either a good thing or a scary thing. She sees something (at this point, she can't even remember what), and decides to give me a blink test. Put her hand at my eyes to see if I react. First the left, blinkie blink. Then the right...no blink. Nada, nothing. She tries it again and again from different angles and nothing is happening. My other mama also says, "hmmm, is it me being paranoid or does it look like Scooters mouth is drooping a little bit?"

All this scares mom a bit because she doesn't know if I can see or not. So, she makes an appt first thing in the morning to see my favorite doctor, Dr. Myers. Dr. Myers loves me and calls me Scoots Scoots. Dr. Myers is examining me and she gets a serious look on her face. Mom says, "Dr. Myers, I don't like that look" and she smiles and says, "I am just trying to assess what's happening here". So, she does these vision tests. She throws biscuits around the room and I snatch em right up. But we notice crumbs on the right side of my mouth. We don't think much of it at the time because maybe it's just me inhaling. She takes me to the back to do more vision tests.

She comes back and says, she now notices the drooping on the right side. She also says she thinks I can see out of my right eye, I just can't blink. She touches all around my right eye and no blinking.

After more assessment, she believes I have facial paralysis on the right side. She wants to rule out a couple of things. She peeks in my ears to see if there are any signs of an ear infection. Apparently, middle ear infections can cause this. She says she can't see into the middle ear with her gadget thingie, but from the outside it looks good. She doesn't want to rule out the middle ear infection though. She also runs a full blood work up and a thyroid test. Everything shows up normal.

So, at this point, she has to refer me to a neurologist. She said there are different things it could be. Oddly enough, the most common reason is it's idiopathic. Mom had no idea what that meant. Idiopathic means they never find the underlying cause. It could be a middle ear infection, hypothyroidism (which they ruled out), it could be C on the brain.

It's been 5 days since it started and I'm acting my same ol silly self and there are no changes, good or bad, at this point. I see Dr. Chicken Strippy. Raise a paw if you remember Dr. Chicken Strippy BOL! He's the neurologist I saw 3 years ago for my herniated disc. He's a good guy and mom is glad we are going to see him. Stay tuned for more!

Wow...well, there's something about turning 8. I don't know why...maybe it's how mom felt when she turned 40 BOL! I had a great birthday....got spoiled of course. I got a couple of new toys and also some rosettes from my pals.

Being 8...hmmm...I'm still a bit devilish according to mom BOL! Trouble is usually out there and I'm usually looking for it hehehehehe. Mom loves that I still love playing and running. Love my toys. She said, "Scooter, you don't seem like you are 8!". That's right mom!

It's hard to believe I have been with my moms since I was 10 weeks old. I don't really remember any other way. My real mom, Jeter, passed away several weeks ago. She was only 12, turning 13 this year. I only met her one other time. On my first birthday I went to visit her and my grandma, Magic...I got along better with grandma than my mom though. Shouldn't be surprising since grandmas are usually the spoilers hehehehe. Mom was good to me though but during pictures, she told me to move over if you know what I mean. But we did play which was really cool!

So, anyway, thanks so much for the rosettes, for the birthday wishes. 8! Can you believe it?!

I'm a member of Snoop Dog Beagleys...we are the largest beagle group on dogster. I became a member of Snoops a few years ago and I have to say, it changed my life. Not just me Scooter, but mom too. It's like no other group on dogster. For me Snoops means a place where I have a second family. A family that will be there for us no matter what. We have experienced sadness and loss in this group, but one thing I have learned...it pulls us together like other place I know. Last year, I almost became paralyzed and Snoops was there every step of the way. No one can really understand what it means to have that kind of support until you go through it.

I have been there time and time again for my fellow snoops and when the shoe was on the other paw, it was my snoop family that was there for me and my moms.

So Snoops for me means a second family...a place where you will always know you are loved...because you are a dog, a pet, a family member :-)

I'm not 100% but I'm pretty darn close. You gotta really look closely to see any deficits. My legs sway just a bit and my right leg is just a touch slower, but if you didn't look for it, you wouldn't know.

I'm thinking of Dr. Gainsburg aka Dr. Chicken Strippy and his awesome staff who took care of me. I couldn't walk a year ago and now look at me!

God bless and dogster and catster friends...once again, a BIG thank ARRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I don't know where the dog came from. I just know that I'm minding my own business when WHAMO! It took me a moment to recover. Trudy is looking at the pup like he's a nitwit BOL! I get up and mom can see I'm a bit nervous. Wouldn't you be too? If you got "bowled" over? BOL!

He starts to jump on me and then turns to jump on Trudy when his mama came and got him. She said he only wanted to play. I'm not so sure about that...he wanted to show us who is boss. Good thing his mama got him because Trudy doesn't let anyone be the boss of her BOLBOLBOL!

Woweeee! We had a lot of fun....my sister Trudy and I went to a beagle bash! Beagles, beagles, everywhere! It was sponsored by Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland. We got a chance to see two of our snoop dog beagle pals, Mike and Harry.

They had a swimming pool and a fenced in area for us to hang out in. There were vendors selling stuff. Some of the most precious dogs were up for adoption. You know mom wanted to take them all home. When we first got there, mom pulls her chair out, sets it up...all these within two minutes of arriving. She looks at the pool they have and says, "oh look...a beagle swimming!". Then it hits her...it's ME! Somehow I either slipped in or jumped in. Mom has a hard time believing I would just jump in the pool. I swam pretty good until I got to the edge and by then I couldn't get out. The big dude, grabbed my harness and pulled me right out of there. I asked mom..."hey mom...if I needed rescuing, would you have come in to get me". Mom says, "you betcha Scoots...anything for my scooter bug". hehehehe

Little kids and adults were giving out biscuits left and right. I was scoring big time! Then mom put on the brakes for me and watched me like a hawk. See, I'm on a d-i-e-t and I'm not too happy. At least I scored at the beagle bash!

Well, a week ago while we were visiting our pals in Canada, the good ol folks decided to go dinner. It was Trudy, Biscuit, Dylan, and I. Well cuz Dylan is sooooo big, we were in two cars. We had just left the dog park and the humans wanted dinner.

After grabbing dinner to take home, my mom driving the car decided to stop at the store to grab a "Ontario" magnet. She gave my other mom the dinner bag. Auntie Alison got out of her car and both of them headed inside the store. My mom (typist) sat in the car with Dylan and Biscuit.

Well, a minute after they went inside the store, mom looks in the bag and sees the two burrito salads, but is stunned that the burrito isn't in there. Trudy is sitting in the drivers seat and mom thinks..."uh oh...did the burrito fall out of the bag"? Mom keeps calling Trudy...trying to keep her attention on her. She starts to get out of the car but realizes Big D will snatch up the bag in a hurry so she gets back in. For a big lab, Dylan is fast!

So mom gets nervous...she can't see me in the back seat cuz the windows are tinted...she just keeps Trudy's attention her. My mom and auntie alison come out and mom says, "Where's the burrito"?! that's when my other mom races to open the door to the car, and on the floor of the drivers seat is the remnents of aluminum foil BOLBOLBOL! and who else is there? Me Me Me Me Me Me Me!

Yup...I ATE the whole thing! I left most of the foil but what a yummy burrito! You should have seen me though...I looked like I swallowed a soccer ball BOLBOLBOLBOL! After we got home, I was still right there begging for more food. Oh and mom had to settle on "Mr. Sub" instead of a burrito hehehehehehe

I was okay...a little bit of an upset stomach the next day but over all I was fine. The funny thing is now I get in the car and one of the first things I do is to hop on the floor...I never did that before....I'm hunting for treasures hehehehehehehe!

Arrrrooooo out there to all my dogster/catster pals! I'm back from vacation! I went to visit some dogster friends in Canada and had a grand ol time!

I got back last night and today, I had my follow up appt with Dr. Chicken Strippy. First thing mom noticed is how happy I was to see them BOL! I ran up to Miss Ashley, who spent a lot of time with me, and a couple of the other nurses. Then Dr. Chicken Strippy came in...boy, was I glad to see him! See, I remember...the chicken strips...hehehehehe. I kept giving him my paw and looking at his chicken strip jar BOL!

I'm sad to say he won't be giving out chicken strips anymore...he found out recently that they were made in China and have been linked to renal failure (told to him by a patient) and he threw them all out. He said he'll look for something else to give out.

My appt went really well. He said he was really happy with my progress. Mom had been a little worried that I didn't seem fully recovered and he agreed. However, he did say I looked like I was in the 90 percent recovery range. He said he was happy I was that far along. I walked for him and ran for him outside too. It's my right leg that isn't 100%.

I barked for him too and he said THAT was in the 100 percent range BOL!

Overall, he is very pleased with my recovery and even though he's not sure I will get 100%, there is still a chance. He said at this point, any progress will be very slow, but there is a chance. He still recommends no jumping which means no sofas or beds in my future :-(. That makes mom a little sad, but at this point, I seem okay with it.

I gotta thank Dr. Gainsburg and his staff for taking such good care of me. Mom could see that my excitement to see them was a result of how much they cared.

This will probably be my last diary update in regards to my herniated disc....7 weeks post op. I pawmise if there is any update to my recovery, I will let you guys know.

Let me take the opportunity to thank all of my pals for following along...giving support and words of encouragement. I want you all to know how much that meant to mom and I. Some of you commented on my diary quite often and that means a ton too.

Keep sending me the PoP that i do get to be 100% but I also know that even if I'm not, I will be loved a hundred times over!

OH!!! One more thing...I am in the process of starting a new group...a group for dogs and even kitties with mobility issues...mainly related to back problems and ACLs...stuff like that. Still trying to come up with a name for the group too. My pals Rowdy and Levi are on board to help out and I think it's a good idea to get a DASCHUND involved since they are so often afflicted with back issues. If you read this and know of someone, can you please pmail me...please!

If you know of a name for the group, roo that too. I think having the word "mobility" in it is what i have so far BOL!

Thanks everyone and the scooter bug loves ya!

BOLBOLBOLBOL! Do you know how many comments mom has gotten regarding my walking and stairs videos? Everyone says they keep looking at my butt hehehehehe.

Anyhoo, how am I doing? I would say there isn't much progress to report except I am running a little more. The stairs are becoming more comfy for me too. Mom still uses the leash for me to go up and down.

Oh! I did have a little fall the other day...my moms were walking us and my typist mom was running a little ahead with Trudy and I started to run too and hit the end of my leash and whamo...I tumbled and fell. Boy did mom feel HORRIBLE. Me? I bounced right up and said, "let's go!" So after mom gushed all over me, she let me run a little with her in the fields near our house.

Mom noticed I'm a little more tired after I run, but I guess that's to be expected. I'm sure I'll get stronger and stronger each day!

If you go to my page, mom wanted to put up a "one month" post op video. One is of me going up and down the stairs and the other is of me walking.

If you watch the one of me on the stairs, you will see I'm on a leash. I'm not sure how permanent that will be. Doc told mom I could go on stairs, but suggested mom use a leash. I think so that I wouldn't be tempted to run up and down the stairs and jump. The risk in the stairs once I'm fully recovered is more of the jumping some dogs do on stairs...you know, they have two more stairs to go so instead of walking down, they jump down the last two.

With the walking, if you watch the video, it's the way my legs lean to one side a little that show you I'm not fully recovered. I think most people would not notice it unless they paid particular attention to it. I can walk and I'm running a little now which will only lead to me getting stronger! Enjoy the videos!

Mom says she may be seeing things, wishing things, or I SAY...the PoP and prayers are still working! Instead of seeing progress every day, it's more like every few days now that mom sees stuff. She says I'm less wobbly and I'm not really leaning.

At one point today, I put my paws up on mom and she could feel me shaking.after several seconds (maybe 20 or 30) of holding the pose (oh...mom was getting a treat out of a bag hehehehe). That tells her I'm not totally strong. It's okay because as long as I keep making progress, that's what counts!

Mom has me running (jogging) a little more....she knows that helps with my strength. When I say a little more, I mean like 15 or 20 yards. I definitely feeling more rascally and want to play more. No worries though friends...mom watches me like a hawk ;-)

Mom can tell that as I slowly get better, I get more of my feisty spirit back. It's always been there, but I've been concentrating on getting better. Mom loves encouraging me and she can see me smiling. Some say dogs don't smile, but we do :-)

This has been a hard week...I lost my kitty sister, Faith. Both my kitty sisters, Faith and Spirit, have been there since I was a puppy. I have a lot of respect for Faith. I never messed with her. She says it and I'll say it...she was the queen. I love Spirit too, and I want to play with her, but alot of times she doesn't want anything to do with me. Mom can see sometimes that she does try and play a little bit.

So, anyhoo, back to my progress. After my last post, I did the stairs a few more times and mom is still a little worried because, one, I hop which she assumes just puts more pressure on my back, and two, I don't do the stairs gracefully. She watches me really careful and lets me do it. Oh and she has pretty much stopped hollering in fear BOL! She noticed when she hollered and got me to slow down, it just messes up my momentum. She she lets me do em. I don't run...I just hop and go up and down.

My sister Trudy is going to a meet up this weekend and I'm sad I can't go. I know i'm not ready for dog parks yet. No pouncing said the doctor!

I think I mentioned this already but Doc Chicken Strippy said I can run as I'm able...so now mom sees me jogging...she's encouraging it a little. He said by the end of the month, I can try and run faster if I want. Just no fast, quick zig zags.

so that's my progress for the week...doc did say that the first 3 or 4 weeks, you see more progress and then the progress is slower after that...he's right. I see that too. I hope I get all my strength and coordination back!

Mom is kinda too afraid to let me go down the stairs on my own but she has let me go up them. Heck, she's allowed to be a little overprotective right? hehehehe

One thing mom noticed is I hop...I don't put one paw in the front of the other when I go up the stairs, I hop one step at a time. Is that normal for us small dogs? Trudy takes them one leg at a time. Just wondering.

Mom called to make my follow up appt and Dr. Chicken Strippy answered the office phone. He asked how i was doing and mom was pleased to tell him I'm doing good. Little less waddling...the gait isn't perfect, but mom thinks there is improvement. It seems that instead of seeing steady progress every day, it's more like every two or three days.

He said that is normal and hopefully the gait and waddling improve. He said there's still plenty of time for improvement.

Mom asked about the stairs and jumping and running and he said that if I wanted to run a little bit, controlled on a leash, it would be okay. No bolting sprints, but a little running would be alright and then I could work it up to more running in the next couple of weeks.

Stairs...he said I could do stairs as long as i was being watched. Mom will be able to see if I have any problems and if there is any "clumsiness", I should wait. The key is not to let me run or go up and down unsupervised for right now. At least for a couple of more weeks.

No jumping yet for sure. He said NO sprint runs and NO jumping. Mom has it. She has been on me making sure I don't muff it up...hehehehehehe

hee hee...mom likes Aerosmith so I thought I would make her smile by making my entry title one of their song titles. I thought it would be worth letting you know that I'm back to walking my regular daily walk...it's about a half mile and mom noticed I'm waddling a lot less!

Last night my unkie and mom walked Trudy and I and as usual, we took our time. Mom noticed I wasn't waddling as much (I waddle when I get tired) so she decided to walk me a little further. Since Unkie was with us, she asked if he would carry me if I got tired. He said yes of course. Know why? cuz he loves me and says, "how can someone be that cute!" hehehehe

Well I made it! Mom felt it was a milestone worth mentioning. It took us longer of course and we took our time, but I did really good!

Now as a side note, mom noticed I still "slip" a little or "lean". I'm not suer how to explain it except when I first starting getting my legs back, I would lean over and could keep up straight and sometimes I would lean and slip over. Well it's a lot less but I still do it a little bit. Still a ways to go, but I'm a lot better off than I was just 3 weeks ago!

Can i get an Arrrrrrooooooo? Arrrrrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooooo!

P.S. Thanks to Crystal for telling me I'm a daily diary pick...thanks HQ!

standing and walking to talk about it. Mom is just still so grateful for each step I take. Mom sees me try to trot a little and she has let me...a little. It's kinda cute...it's like a couple of skips and then i start walking again.

Mom believes that being able to share my walks with Trudy makes a difference. I feel that even if I can't walk far, as long as I am with mom and my sister, I feel better.

I haven't tried jumping on the sofa but today Unkie said I tried to...i put my paws up on the couch when I got caught. Mom is pretty sure that I know I'm not supposed to do that, but I miss it up there...sigh. It feels worse first thing in the morning...I always, always, always snuggle on the couch with mom in the morning. Well not in the last few weeks...sigh. Mom has been good though and she sits on the floor with me until I head over to my brand new spanking bed. Yup...I got a bed for the living room. Something I can snuggle into ;-) It's big enough for Trudy or I.

I am beginning to be able to walk my normal 4 block walk! I am still not moving too fast and it takes longer of course, but my stamina is taking me further. I think mom makes it easier for me because she keeps acting like she wants to go slow...hehehehe.

I look more confident in my walk and a little less waddle in my step too. I still slip every once in a while...meaning I don't have 100% control of my leggies yet.

Something I want to say...mom is still terrified of something happening to me. She's glad i am restricted...no running, jumping, or stairs. She will need to work on it. She's afraid it might happen again one day. So if anyone out there has experienced a herniated disc and only had it happen once, your pmail would be appreciated.

Oh! I got a little bit of a surprise...my pal Rowdy and I are working on something together. I'll say this now cuz it's all his idea....more details to come later so keep checking in on my diary.

If I told you guys lately that your comments mean a lot? So thank you!

and mom is really proud of me. First, my regular typist mama is back! It was a pleasant surprise to see my other mama type for me hehehehehe.

Did y'all know my other mama is deaf? Yup...she is...and Trudy and I can tell she can't hear...know why? we try to sneak past her to steal the kitty food in the kitchen! BOL! Mom knows we don't usually try that when she's around BOLBOLBOL!

So, as my other mama mentioned the vet visit went well. Dr. Chicken Strippy says he still expects a full recovery. I am still restricted...no stairs, sofa, or running.

Mom can't leave me alone in the living room because I have tried a couple of times to get on the couch. She went out and bought me a doggy bed that kinda looks like a couch. Well, guess where I am right now? In my crate BOLBOLBOL!

Mom can see i want to run and that's better than last week...I wasn't really wanting to run...maybe "I" didn't feel ready but when she got back yesterday she noticed i wanted to run but she had to hold me back. Short leash i tell ya!

I am now pretty good about waiting at stairs...I want to go up or down em but mom keeps saying "waittttttt"...sigh...and so I wait. She's thankful...i can hear her heart beating faster when I get near the stairs to go up from going potty or something.

Anyhoo, still not 100%...mom thinks 80 or 85% now? Kinda wished she had asked the doctor...but doc said the goal was to be at 80 or 85% by week 3 and mom is pretty certain I seem there.

Isn't that great?! Arrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooooooo!

Hi everypaws! My mommy's still out of town, so my other mommy is typing for me!

I saw a doctor this morning and got 17 staples removed! Yeah! But I can't run nor lay on the couch for another month :(. (I still prefer sleep on my own bed that my mommy kept on bring up and down from her bedroom to the living room every night and every morning).

I tried to run today when we were out for a walk, but my mommy wouldn't let me and she told me to slow down. I just want to be ahead of my sister, Trudy. That's all. Also, I was so excite that I can move more comfortable without the staples. I wanna walk more further, mommy told me that I need to take it easy. Today, I finally get to walk more further than before!

and it happened on Day 10! I know mom was just saying how I made it through 9 days without jumping on sofa, climbing stairs, or running. She was pretty proud of herself...

last night, mom is upstairs packing her bags (yeah, she's leaving me...I'll tell you that to) and my other mama comes up to get something...Mom thinks to herself "is scooter unsupervised?"

Well, mom opens the bedroom door and guess who is standing there.....TA-DA! Me! I don't know about mom, but I was pretty happy, wagging my tail. Mom gasped.

I'm okay and nothing happened, but I'm not supposed to do that for a few more weeks!

Mom is going out of town tomorrow and won't be back until next Wednedsay. So that means no diary updates until she gets back. I'll miss mom...I always get a little sad when one of my moms leave me.

I still get encouraging mesages from my pals so a BIG thank you for that! I'm working for ya!

Went another block tonight...I might shoot for a block and a half tomorrow if I promise mom to take a break or two ;-) hehehehe Doc said to go with what I'm comfortable with.

I have been feeling kinda sad that Trudy is going on these long walks and I get left behind. I know she's gone and I want to be with her. She is so patient with me and just like yesterday, she walked alongside me. She's a good sis. hee hee....

Tonight, I went out for a short walk...I went a whole block! It took me 20 minutes (usually takes 10 minutes tops). Mom noticed I haven't been happy going out without Trudy, but Trudy can get a bit excited and she likes to pull on the leash. I missed Trudy :-(

Mom decided to try Trudy on a short leash (I'm already using one right now). Well guess what? Trudy went really slow for me. Mom started to cry. Mom is sure Trudy knew...she actually either walked beside me or behind me. She knows when she's ahead, I always gotta catch up BOL!

Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you Trudy...you have been really gentle with me since I have been home. We have always gotten along, but I can see you know something is wrong with me. I love you sis!

Mom called doctor chicken strippy today and he seemed pleased with my progress. I told him to have my chicken strippy ready when I come to visit him next Monday hehehehehe.

He told mom to continue to encourage me walking and it sounded like mom was doing everything just right. No jumping, stairs, or running. Mom walks me between a half a block to a block and he said that sounded just right and I would continue to let mom know when I was too tired.

Mom sure is proud of me! I just keep on trucking BOL! I am moving around more comfortably...but I am still a little wobbly...less than before for sure. I slip a little less and I have a gait/limp that mom is hoping goes away...hopefully that's normal for where I am.

I get my staples out next Monday so I'm excited about that. No more frankenscootie BOL! Thanks for all your PoP!

Well, can you believe one week ago today I couldn't walk....things got so bad that a week ago I ended up spending the night at the neurologists.

Now here I am a week post op....Day 7 and I'm walking...not perfect, but I am seeing a little progress each day. Today seems more of a limp of sorts. Oh and I'm able to finally stoop to do # 2! Did I tell y'all that already? BOL!

I'm still tiring easily so any treks outside are pretty short. I am not ready for "walks". We take it day by day. For now, I walk about a half a block or so and at my pace, that's about 10 or 15 min. Mom is really patient and doesn't let me go to fast. She makes me slow down and will sit for a minute so I get back to the slower pace.

Mom is gonna call Dr. Chicken Strippy tomorrow...she wants him to know how well I'm doing.

I told y'all I was gonna try and make you proud! Those of you who know beagles, know we are hard workers when we wanna be :-)

I am thankful for a lot of things...my friends on dogster and catster...I'm thankful for mommies and an unkie who love me very much.

I recently made a friend...his name is Rowdy. See, Rowdy and I had very similar experiences. He hurt his back too. He reached to me, courtesy of my pal, Sarge. He and I both had the same surgery.

I am thankful because I have doggy insurance. For Rowdy and I, our bills are in the thousands. Did you know that surgery for IVD (intervertebral disc disease) is one of the most expensive surgeries a dog can have? Even with my own insurance, my share will still be well over a thousand dollars.

I wanted to mention my friend Rowdy today because he didn't have insurance. He has a HQ approved fundraiser going, but he is still far away from reaching his goal. Please consider visiting his page. His mom is special....know why? Because despite the fact that his surgery cost well into the thousands, she didn't give up on him. Just like my mom wouldn't give up on me.

Rowdy, thanks for being there for me...we are both recovering at different paces, but in the end, we'll make each other proud okay? Good luck to you my friend...I'm praying that you have a full recovery!

Every day Doctor Chicken Strippy says mom will see improvement. Well today, I am able to scratch my ears. The last couple of days were a bit uncoordinated but today i got in a a full 30 seconds of uninterrupted scratching BOLBOLBOL!

Mom is amazed at how well i am doing, but still continues to be very watchful. I think at this point, she is focusing on keeping me quiet and not letting me get overexcited and do something to "tweak" anything. The ice machine gets me up awfully fast and so does breakfast and dinner time. One of my moms usually have to hold me back and get me to settle down.

For any of ya who know me, KNOW I LOVE FOOD! Well, watch out, cuz this is Scooter on STEROIDS BOL! Dogs on steroids are usually more hungry and more thirsty. Mom realizes that Scooter on steroids is pretty much like me any ol day BOLBOLBOL! I am drinking more which mom noticed. I had a 5 mg pill yesterday and tomorrow is my last one.

So, on Day 6, I'm doing good! Arrrrrrrroooooooooooooo!

Well, here Iam, day 5 after surgery. I'm glad i'm doing this diary. At first I wasn't sure who out there in dogster land has had herniated disc surgery, but a couple of pmailed me and even though they have had similar surgeries, their recovery has been a little different. I think it's helpful for others to know that not all herniated discs are the same....from what little mom knows it depends on where the herniated disc is and perhaps when somepup had the surgery.

Today is pretty much like yesterday. I'm walking....I walk and swagger, walk and swagger and sometimes I plop a little.

I'm not sure if I put this in my diary yesterday but I was not really having a problem with peeing...I kinda plopped down to do my business but the pooping was a little more difficult...I couldn't really stoop to do it. Well today, mom saw me stoop. She stood right behind me if I needed help but I was pretty much able to do it.

Dr. Gainsburg, aka Dr. chicken strippy, says mom will see little improvements every day.

Mom carried me across the stree to where there is grass and trees and we walked a little bit over there...just for a few minutes...I'm glad I did because that's when #2 came out hehehehehe.

Mom is starting pick up on the little signs if i'm doing a little too much. She sure is overprotective, but that's because she loves me. Thanks very much friends! I love ya!

I want to thank all my pals for being there the last several days. Mom says I worried a lot of you and I wish I hadn't done that. I have experienced giving lots of PoP to others, but never needed it myself...at least not for anything big.

All my snoops, my friends at dogster and catster...thank you from the bottom of my beagley heart for loving me so much. Thank you for your prayers, your positive thoughts, PoP, comments, posts, rosettes, etc...It really did help mom through this difficult time and I know it made me feel better! Thanks for being my friend!

I'll make you proud!

Mom here: It is certainly easier to type as Scooter than it is for myself. I try not to post since it's really about Scooter and not me. I did want to personally thank each and every one of you for being there for us. This is one of the scariest things I have ever been through. Dogster and Catster really are amazing. Your love for Scooter and our family will never be forgotten. Thanks for being so wonderful to us!

HQ, thank you! I wanna thank HQ too because I know some of ya have been worried about me. There are some good peeps over there :-) Belly scrubs!

I don't typically type much in my diary but the last few days have been tough ones for me. mom is glad she got it all in my diary...she hopes it helps other pups who may have a similar experience.

Last night was okay but mom could see I was a bit uncomfortable. Each time she picked me up, my stomach would really tense up. I think I'm still afraid of being picked up or maybe it hurts a little.

I slept next to mom on her side the bed where I usually sleep. I got up and walked over tot he door. Mom noticed my back legs going back and forth two or three times! I wasn't standing to walk, but I was trying to move them back and forth! Oh and Unkie took me out really early this morning and he said I actually walked a few steps. Arrrrroooooooo! He took me out without a leash and when he saw me moving, he thought, "uh oh...should I get the leash?" He kept up with me easily though ;-)

I'll keep y'all updated! And thanks again HQ!

Arrrrrrooooooo! I sure am a happy beagley :-) My moms and unkie came to pick me up this afternoon. When mom said, "let's go home....wanna go home Scooter"...I scooted myself to the door and when she opened it, i wouldn't stop hehehehehe.

Mom could see I was making a little bit of an effort to get those back legs going...so there is some motion back there. I also stood for a couple of seconds. I'm a little unsteady but it was standing and that's all mom cared about BOL!

I got home and I was a little nervous being around Trudy...but Trudy was patient with me and within a few minutes I could see she was really happy to see me. She seems to be staying close by.

As for the doctor discharge instructions, he told us that he would like to see me move around...not a lot, but he would like to encourage me to get my motor function back. The more I do, the more it helps me build back up again. So for now I'm pretty much only in the living room. So pretty much no cage rest unless mom is not here. I'll be honest, I'm too tired to get up and move around much right now. The doctor said the hardest part will be holding me back once I start feeling better. So mom just needs to keep a close eye on me. I am taking medication...predisone (5 mg) for a couple of days, Tramadol(50 mg), and an antiobiotic that mom can't remember the name of.

The doctor said I should get 80 to 85% of my walking back in two to three weeks...and then progress slows after that. Full recovery can take 4 to 6 months...but he has seen it happen a lot sooner. He said he is pleased with where I am.

Dr. Gainsburg has been really good to me...he smiled as I was leaving and told me i would be okay. His nurse Ashley gave me a hug and a kiss too. She said everyone was loving all over me when I was in the hospital. Yeah yeah...so what's new? BOL! I get loved on at home all the time BOLBOLBOLBOL! I'll keep everyone updated :-)

Arrrrrrrrooooooooooooo! hehehehehe I'm so happy! Mom called Dr. Chicken Strippy and he said I'm doing good. He said he sees a little more motor function. When Mom asked what it was specifically, he said he saw me move my back legs back and forth a little. Not fully, but a little bit. He said I also stood up on my own a couple of times for a few seconds. That's good news cuz as of Monday evening (pre-surgery), I wasn't able to do that!

mom asked if I was more improved today than I was before I had the surgery and he said yes.

See, I'm a fighter...and my pals here and my family tell me I'm a fighter. Heck, I know that. I'm a beagley and us beagles have strong spirits...stubborn and we don't let anything stop us.

Mom will try and update my diary tonight after I get home. I will probably be going home late this afternoon.

I'm sad that I can't come home today, but I'm glad I got to see my mommies and unkie this afternoon. The doctor took me out of my crate and put me on the floor...he told mom to call me...he wanted to watch me move. Well, I still can't move my back legs, but boy was my tail wagging! I dragged myself over to my mamas...a happy little beagley.

The doc said that a good wagging tail was a good sign hehehehehe. It made my mom a little sad because I can't stand yet...she can see I'm trying to move my back legs a little, but I'm not having much luck. The doctor says all this is normal and he would still expect me to fully recover. Mom will feel a lot better once she starts seeing improvement and she also knows it's still early.

The reason I can't go home today is because I'm still sore and they want to make sure I'm urinating on my own. If mom understands it right, the doctor says that I gotta use my muscles to urinate and if I'm doing that, I got motor function to do it. I think that's why.

Mom really hopes I can come home tomorrow...I even dragged myself to the door to leave and mom said I had to wait one more day. That made her really sad. They are taking really good care of me; mom knows that.

So, we will see what tomorrow brings.....thanks pals!

Mom really misses me and I miss her :-( My mommies and Unkie are going to come visit me this afternoon. Mom hopes Im feeling better by then.

Keep up the PoP...he thinks I can have a steady recovery but he'll know more tomorrow. Thanks to all my pals!

Oh...and mom has a funny story for ya...I told mom..."you gotta tell my pals! Put it in my diary!"

Dr. Gainsburg aka Dr. Chicken Strippy...i call him Dr Chicken Strippy cuz he gave me a couple on Monday...anyway a few hours after my surgery, here i am alllll loopy and out of it. Mom asks..."did Scooter eat"? he says not yet...mom says..."I bet she inhales her dinner...I can see Scooter inhaling a chicken strippy....i wouldn't be surprised". He says well she may not feel like eating. So he takes me back to my cage...he comes around to the desk and says, "she took it". "She took it?" "yeah....i gave her a chicken strippy and she snatched it right up"

I AM STILL AN INHALER! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE

Dr. Gainsburg called! I, Scooter Yates, have made it out of surgery and it was deemed "a success" :D

Some of it was kind of confusing. The disk herniation was at T12/T13 and he said it was really bad. It was squishing my spinal cord. He said he didn't have to touch my spinal cord much when is a good thing. There was a little hemmoraging from a "sinus" (that's part of when mom got a little lost) and they got the bleeding to stop.

I will be there anywhere from 2-5 days...possibly going home tomorrow afternoon, but I think it depends on whether I can stand or not. I have inside stiches and like 10 staples...whoa! that's a lot! I'm a little beagley!

As for my recovery process, he has a better idea of how it will go after 24 to 48 hours. Mom will go and visit me after she gets off work. I'll update you guys when mom gets home.

Angels, thanks so much for surrounding me with your love. I felt safe the whole time. As for the support, words just can't express it enough. For those of you who have been through a traumatic experience with pet and felt the "dogster and catster" love, you know. Your friendship means more than you know. Thanks for being the bestest pals a beagley girl can have.

I'll keep you updated on my progress. The next day or two will be really important

here's the entry I posted for my friends and family here on dogster:

Ok...mom has a HUGE sense of relief right now...the doctor called...he said it is a HERNIATED disc...THANK GOD...mom was so worried it would be a tumor or something...

I'm going into surgery now...it will be 2 to 2 1/2 hours long and he will call me once I start waking up. so mom figures it will be around 2pm or so?

Mom was really hoping to see me before the surgery but since I'm already asleep from the myleogram, he wants to keep me asleep and go straight into surgery.

Mom asked if he still antcipates a full recovery and he said yes...he will know more after surgery and after he gets in there, but he said I can still have a full recovery.

So, now mom just wants me to get through this surgery...i need all my angels with me now...to watch over me. I love you guys

Mom here: I am immensly relieved that we are dealing with the disc. I didn't say this earlier because I was scared to death. some of my closest friends here know...Scooter's fur angel sister Floppy had neck problems...spasms...and began to lose coordination...in fact a lot was similar to Scooter except Floppy's was in her neck. We were told Floppy had a muscle pull and in fact, it wasn't. We were told we were probably looking at herniated disc, but an MRI would confirm it. The doc says, "if i was a betting man, i would put all my money on a herniated disc". well, he was wrong...it was a tumor and she went down hill fast after that. I lost floppy just 4 days later :-(

so as you can see, the parallel story of Scooter and Floppy has scared me to death. I love Scooter so much. I love all my fur babies...Scooter, Trudy, Faith, and Spirit. All are very important to me.

Wow...doing these diaries are kind of hard :-( since yesterday, I have gotten worse. I had to stay over night with the doctor so they could monitor me. I am not able to walk and the vet wanted to monitor me overnight in case I got worse and they need to do things quicker.

Mom hated to leave me there but she knew they would take good care of me. Mom really missed me last night and I missed my mommys.

Some have asked why I haven't done the MRI quicker and the problem is they don't have MRI equipment there. They do it at a human radiology lab in the evenings and the first opportunity is tonight (Tuesday).

The doc said they could do a myleogram if it becomes a real emergency, but he prefers the MRI because of how much more you can see.

I'm fighting...I still have my spirit and eat like a hound dog...hehehehe...I figured you guys would appreciate it. The doctor was impressed with my inhaling skills BOL! He says, "whoa scooter! you gotta slow down". I told him i haven't slowed down in 5 years ;-).

I should have another update later...paws crossed for me ok?

Your prayers, thoughts, POTP requests...all of it makes a difference. Thanks so much for loving us and for being there for me every wobbly step of the way.

Mom got insurance for all of us a a few years ago and mom is really hoping there won't be any problems with the insurance paying for my visits. If I have to have surgery, it's REALLY expensive. So keep your paws crossed, that mom doesn't have any problems with them. It covers 80% which is HUGE when you think how much all this can cost.

Mom is now trying to keep me quiet...not just for me, or for her, but for all my friends out there rooting for me. I pray i can get back to normal. I love all of my friends.

...

A couple of pals wanted to get updates and they came to my page and couldn't find anything here.

Here's the scoop...a couple of weeks ago, mom noticed I was a little slow...just didn't want to run...and as the week went on and mom went out of town, my other mama reported that I was hesitant on stairs and getting on the sofa.

So, mom takes me to the vet and after xrays he thought I might have a "disc" issue, but since nothing showed up, he assumed perhaps a muscle pull. I actually started feeling better and back to my old self a couple of days later.

By Friday, mom noticed I was starting to get worse and I started to wobble in my back legs...she wasn't sure if it was medicine or not, so once again, I went back to the vet. This time he was really concerned and based on his neurological exam, I was a step away from paralysis. My right hind leg didn't want to cooperate. So, he referred me to a neurologist for an emergency consult.

I was seen this morning by the neurologist...he's a nice guy and he thinks it may be a herniated disc. He doesn't know for sure so I have to have an MRI done to confirm what he suspects. That happens tomorrow.

Reasons I love mom: breakfast, dinner, snacks, biscuits, treats, rawhide chews, two boxes of toys, walks every day, playing with me...being there when something is scaring me. Maybe not so much for the hugs and kisses you plan on me ALLLLL the time...cuz that's for you...oh, I can say that's a reason I love ya...cuz I let ya! hehehehehe. Happy Mother's Day!

A big thank you to Buh-ens for the awesome birthday cake...Snoops...for always making my birthday feel like a big deal, and PAWS Angels...for the birthday surprise BOL! The awesomest kitties in the whole world are there. Yup, I said it...kitties BOL! I am in a couple of other private groups too and I love every one of them...you know who you are :-)

I got a BIG wolf stuffy for my birthday, a new treat ball...oh and another cuz ball! My pal Henry gave me one for Christmas...i cherish it because Henry left for the bridge a few weeks after christmas. It broke my heart and i don't want to destroy that one :-( So mom got me my own cuz ball to do with as I wish...hehehehehe. Oh and a yummmmmy peanut butter and oatmeal bone treat!

Well, I got tagged again...I get tagged from time to time and sometimes I participate and sometimes I don't. Well, this time my friend Sassy tagged me through a rosette. I mean I can't let her send me a rosette and then ignore it right?

So, now I'm doing this in honor of Sassy...and a pup who is fairly new to dogster. His name is Charlie and he tagged me a week or so ago. I told him since I had already been tagged and Trudy hasn't (he tagged Trudy too), I wasn't going to do it.

Here we goooooooo....now I'm doing it!

has tagged me to play a neat little game. What I have to do is tell 7 things about myself and then I will tag 7 pals and have them do the same thing. Since I was tagged twice I will tag 14 pups.

So here goes:

1. I have a new favorite toy! My good cuz ball...courtesy of my snoop secret santa, Henry.

2. Not many know this, but I have several kitty pals on Catster...hehehehe...some are on my bestest pal list!

3. I have had no snow yet this year and it's making me sad :-(

4. Mom's pretty sure if I had free access to food, I would eat myself to death.

5. Well, I'm a girl...and the other day, I lifted my leg to pee on a bush *shock*

6. I don't give licks, but I like to snuggle when I sleep.

7. My dogster hubby Oz finally got high speed internet BOL!

Ok, here are the pals that I am tagging! Have fun and play if you like! Here are my victims:

1. Lady Van Gant
2. Bernie
3. Rumble
4. Bella
5. Benny
6. Bubba

Jovi and Biscuit were one of the first pals I ever made on dogster and our mamas became pals last year. We had such a great time. We met Biscuit first. My mama and Biscuit acted like they knew each other for years BOL! We got to meet Jovi the next day. Jovi was surrounded by 3 beagley girls, but it took it all in stride.

The trip seem kinda short, but we had such a wonderful time getting to know Jovi, Biscuit, and their pawrents!

What can I can say? The past week has been a dream. I got so much love and kindness thrown my way and I can't tell you how much it means to me. I heard from pups that I hadn't heard from in a while...they either posted in the DOTW thread or contacted me through rosette/stars or pmails. I really miss some of my pals: Soda, Sadie, Murph, Kuai, Champ, Elsie, and Digger. I hope I didn't forgot any of them. These are pals I haven't really chatted with in quite a while. These were some of my very first friends on dogster...friends I will always cherish regardless of how much time goes by.

I have been so blessed to have so many friends. I really mean that....so many who are friendly and kind. I'm here everyday on dogster because of you. I know no matter what you guys will be there for me. New friends were made last week. They say it would be an honor to be friends with a "dog of the week" pup, but I say "nnnnaaaaaahhhhh". It's me who considers it an honor.

The most important thing to me this past week was to make sure I personally responded to every rosette, star, and pmail that I received. I did that :-) It gave me a chance to connect with those old pals and connect with new ones.

I want to thank each and every pal...I want to thank dogster for this honor. Oh and mama says I better thank her...she types for me BOL!

Wowsa! Wowsie! Oh my goodness! *PLOP* *Gets back up* Wow...I can't believe it. Dogster has honored me by making Dog of the Week. I can't tell ya how much that means to me.

I am so overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from my friends and even some new ones I have met today. I am going to respond to each and every pmail, rosette, and star...all personally and from the heart. The friendships, the love and support I have here is incredible.

I hope each and every friend knows how much they mean to me. I can't name every single one of them, but I hope in their heart of hearts, they know. There are friends here who I can count on...friends who would be there in a heartbeat to share my joys and my sadnesses with. When I got sick a couple of times, your support and phone calls meant a lot.

I know I'm getting mushy, but the messages I have received just make me realize what a lucky pup I am. Thank you Dogster for loving me and remember I love you right back!

Wow, 2007 is over and now we bring in a new year. So much has happened.

The 1st day of 2007 is without a doubt right at the top of my happy memories of 2007. I got married to the wonderful Mr. Oz! Oz and I are still together and today, we celebrated our one year annifursary. Oz truly has one of the kindest hearts I will ever meet!

This year has so many wonderful memories, but I have also lost some very dear friends this year to the bridge. Some have really affected us and we miss them so much. A dear friend also went missing in the spring and to date, our Gizmo has not been found. We know she is somewhere safe, but for her brother Cedar's sake, I know he would feel better knowing where she is.

I have made some wonderful friends...some friends who I have become closer with. Friends who I know would be there for me in a pinch.

I want to mention some groups:

Snoops Dogg Beagleys...a family to us. You just can't imagine the love and support that this group gives each other. We are so blessed to be a part of this group. There isn't anything we wouldn't do for them and there isn't anything they wouldn't do for us.

"M" group...you guys are the most open group I know. You really allow us to come out and be ourselves with all of you. Your support and friendship is something I really cherish. I have made some friends here that I know will be around for a long time. I just wanted you guys to know how much you mean to me.

Downtown...wow, what a year! I have had so much fun in this group. I don't visit Crushes that much anymore and I'm so glad that some of my pals have joined me downtown. I miss some of those friends a lot, but Crushes just isn't what it used to be. I also became a lot closer with my pal Soda. Soda ran as mayor and I ran as her deputy mayor. Soda, that was much fun!

B&A...what can I say...you guys are so wonderful. I love coming by for short visits or long visits to just to catch up on what's happening during the day. You guys provide a lot of support to us and have welcomed me with all your hearts. I can honestly say there are friendships here that I will always cherish.

PAWS Angels...I am soooo proud to be apart of this group. This group spreads love and kindness to many sick pups and kitties. My pal Dezi asked me to be a part of this and I was honored that she did. Our friendship has been strengthened by this. I have also made new friendships with Jazzi, Sissy, and Pie. Again, please know that this group means the world to me!

I just have to mention Dylan, Biscuit, Schumi, Bella, Jovi, Rilie and the Weenigos. We began to have a friendship outside of dogster. You welcomed us into your chats and you guys mean the world to me. I don't know what I would do without you.

Overall, I have so many wonderful friends here. I can't name them all, but I hope you all know how much you mean to me. I love all of you!

I have been love tagged by another bestest friend, Jezzie. It's a new Dogster tag game. You are Loved! You pick three Dogsters that you think are fantastic and tell a little about why! Don't forget to let them know how much they are loved with a p-mail, star or a rosette. By what I have read, you do not tag the one that tags you. I am blessed with many wonderful Dogster friends, so picking three is impossible! I don't know if I will get them all done this evening or not, but here is a start. These are in no particular order, and I pray I don't hurt anyone's feelings.

1. Oz-my dearest sweet Oz. No one makes me feel more special than you do. When I see you, I light up and I'm the happiest pup in the world. Thank you for being so wonderful to me and for being there. I know I can always count on you!

2. Tucker-Tucker, you and I have become pals in the last few months. I want you to know how much our friendship means to me. You and I have tons of fun at the Moosehead and you always bring a smile to my face! I'll always be there for ya Tucker....you just have to arrrrrooooooo BOL!

3. Buddy-one of my bestest pals-Buddy, you were one of my first pals on dogster. Our friendship grew and you became a pup I knew I could always count on and confide in. You mean the world to me and I chose you because I wanted you to know that. We haven't chatted a lot in the last two or three months, but please know you hold a dear place in my heart. I love ya Buddy!

Oh yea! I ate some chocolate covered espresso coffee beans! Bad Scooter, I know. I paid for it. Mom rushed me to the vet as soon as she realized I ate them. The doctors made me throw up and they gave me charcoal. EWWWWWWWW. Good news is there wasn't any permanent damage.

What else? I got a wading poooool! Mom bought my sister and I a small pool to see if we would like it. I love my pool! Mom puts rocks in it and I play with them BOL!

We go walking and playing everyday. Summer is pretty cool so far!

Hiya pups! My pal Digger tagged me and now I'm it. I get to choose 7 of my pals to tag.

Here are the rules:

Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Dogs who are tagged, need to post in their Diary the rules & their 7 pawsome facts. Then choose 7 dogs to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to bark them a pmail that they have been tagged and to read your Diary, or, send them a fun Rosette announcing they've been Tagged!

Here are 7 fun facts about me! The Scooter Duder!

1. I have a brother and sister living in Pennsylvania...Their names are A Rod and Torre (that's right! We're all named after New York Yankees!

2. I love squeaky toys!

3. I recently took part in an experiment...go on a walk or eat. (the experiment is in a video on my page). Let's see who really knows me!

4. I have my own pillow on mama's bed

5. I bark at strangers, but once they say hi, I start tail wagging

6. I'm not much of a kisser...mama says when I give them they are special

7. Every morning, I snuggle with mom on the couch

Pass on the fun...

Your pal,

Scooter

I choose:

Buddy
Jovi

Hiya Pups! All is good in Scooter land. I'm no longer on a diet....woooohoooo! I also discovered something yummy! Mommy gave me a bone and put cheese in it! The package says, "fat free cheese". I don't know what that means, but it sure keeps me busy! I go after that cheese like it's the last piece of food on earth! It also snowed a couple of times this past month....ARRROOOOOO! I love the snow! Playing in it and eating it!

The month of February has been a good one! I won Queen of the Dogster Heart Ball. I don't know how that happened, but I'm grateful to the pups who voted for me. Also, I have been playing hockey in a group called, "Downtown" and my team won the Downtown Dogster Hockey League Championship! Arrrroooooo to Biscuit, Charley, King Toby, Abby, Diesel, Cedar, and Jovi. It was a fun season!

Oh yea! One of the nicest things ever on dogster happened to me. One of my best pals, Kasey, gave me 5 or 6 anonymous rosettes. There were so many nice things said about me and I didn't who gave them to me. Well, finally she confessed! Kasey, if you read this....it meant a lot to me...it really did!

Okay pups...I think that's it for now. Hugs from Scooter!

I have to thank all the wonderful pals who helped us with the wedding. I am soooo happy with Oz! With Oz, I got a new brother in law Coby! My sister Trudy and Coby are really good pals now.

Hmmm, what else? OH YEA! Mama got us a new fence in the backyard. A fence just for us! No other reason except she loves us and wanted us to have a place to play! My birthday is coming up in just over a month....oh yea...another big day to be spoiled! Love ya pups!

Hiya Pups! Whew! So much has been going on. Let's see...#1 on my list...I'm getting married! Married to Oz! I just realized I never put that in my journal! Oz is the sweetest beagle with a heart of gold!

What else...oh yea! Trudy and I became official members of the Snoop Doggs. They are a group for beagles. I gotta tell you...that is a great group of beagles...everyone is so friendly and so nice. It's like one big beagle family!Sorry my non-beagle pals can't join, but at least I get to see them all over Dogster!

Now...at home...Trudy and I went on our first official family trip together. We went to visit a friend of mamas after thanksgiving. Oh, we had a blast! They had a big fenced in yard. They have a 80 lb puppy named Corey. Trudy and I played and played! The best part was using my beagle nose and sniffing out those rawhide chews that Corey buried. You can't hide from a beagle!

momma has bought my christmas gifts...I just know it! She walked through the front door with a bag full of stuff...I could smell stuff when she came in the door. She made a quick left into another room...I started to follow her in *SLAM*...drats! She closed the door. Christmas is right around the corner...woohooo!

Let's see...what kind of trouble have I gotten into. Oh yeah! Mom had the nerve to leave her dvd movie up on the counter which I can barely reach. She went upstairs to change clothes...came back down and there i was munching on the cover. It wasn't my fault that she left it so close to the edge. Mom suspects it was Trudy who grabbed it for me though...Trudy can reach up there, but my paws barely reach the top. No harm though...I wouldn't have destroyed the movie!

Hi folks...it's been a while since I posted. I've been so busy cruising the boards that I forgot about this silly journal!

I have a new dogfriend...his name is Oz. He is such a cutie and when we go to the Moosehead Bar or to Sodas, he always treats! He was afraid to ask me go out on a date, but I was so proud of him. Who could resist Oz...tooo much of a cutie if you ask me.

We tried to enter ourselves in a Dogster Couple contest, but it was too late. Oz found another contest! The perfect couple contest! We are really excited about that! I've never been in any contest before so this should be a lot of fun. I'm not going to have high expectations. I know at home, I'm a winner. I feel like a winner every day when mommy comes homes and greets me! For those, who know us....wish us luck!

My sister Trudy and I had our annual vaccinations and physical yesterday. Mommy was glad to finally get me to a decent weight! I'm 20.8 lbs! Whatever! I haven't been getting as much food as I want...sigh.

I saw my favorite vet. Yeah, well okay...it's my mommy's favorite vet. I can see why she likes her. She is always nice to me and she always seems excited to see me. Only problem is she pokes things at me and gives me the shots. Ouch! When I saw Dr. James, she was happy to see me, so I ran over to say hi and give her a lick, BUT THEN IT HAPPENED...I remembered! The lady who pokes at me and gives me shots! I did an about-face and ran for the door. Couldn't get out....drats! My sister Trudy was oblivious to everything...just happy to be with us...hehehehehe...wait until it's her turn!

Mommy told her that I had two or three accidents in the house in a two week period. Well, I have a history of UTIs so mommy brought a urine sample with her. Well, Dr. James gave me a scolding. She looked right at me and said, "Scooter...there is no medical reason for why you are peeing in the house". I better shape up, huh? No accidents in over a week though.

My exam went well..I was a perfect angel...those shots hurt, but I was very good. Mommy is a little sad because Dr. James is leaving, but the good news is she is starting her own private practice. It may be a year though. I have to admit that Dr. James takes real good care of me and she really seems to like me a lot (I know...who wouldn't). Mommy says we will see Dr. James again.

Well, I made a mess of myself. Mommy has always had to keep an eye on me because I will eat just about anything. I'm also a power chewer. My goal is to break toys as fast as I can! For that reason, mommy doesn't let me have free reign of my toys. Some toys are around, but these are the kind, I can't destroy...DRATS!

Anyway, when mommy wasn't looking, I found a stuffed animal squeaker and decide to see what it tasted like. Well, I can tell you, nothing special about it. In fact, it made me sick. Last Saturday, I felt sick...my stomach was really hurting. I couldn't eat (trust me pals...I'm a food monger!) or drink and I couldn't get comfortable laying down. I started shivering and mommy really knew I wasn't feeling well so they took me to the vet. Well, folks...the doc found that squeaker. Let's just say it came in through my mouth and out the opposite end. The doc gave me something and out it came! I felt soooo much better after that. I'm taking medicine and it seems to make me a little tired. I hear mommy say, a "tired beagle, is a good beagle". What is she trying to say? Hmmm...I'll have to figure it out.

I played last night though. I'm not ready to go full force yet and play with my sister Trudy, but hopefully soon. Take care pup pals! OH OH OH...one last thing....I got a rosette today! Not sure what is means, but somehow it feels special :-) ARRRFFFFFFF!

I was finally able to squeeze in a little ME time on mommy's computer so I could let all my pup pals know how I'm doing. Still mischevious, but mommy still loves me so that's all that matter. Not a lot has happened in the last couple of months since my last diary entry. My mommy went on vacation and left me with my uncle. I have to say....I can really take advantage of him! He's a pushover. He's starting to catch on though.

Let's see...how much trouble have I been in? The good news is I think I am really starting to catch on that when I chew on stuff (remote controls, tables, crates, pens, wires, etc.), I'm really getting in trouble for that! The other day while mommy was in the shower, I figured out how to open the pantry door. Guess what I found?! My sister's Trudy dog food bag was there. It took a little time, but i busted that bag open! Mommy caught me pretty quickly though. DRATS! Yes, I gained a pound or so after that excursion, but it was worth it! Now, she has me on a diet...eeks!

Know what the best part of the weekend was? My grandma and grandpa came for a visit! Every time my mom mentions there name, I get so excited. They spoil me! Grandma always has the extra treats.

I had a great weekend...I got plenty of excercise, ran my heart out at the dog park and spent quality time with the whole family. Oh, they had steak last night and I even got a small piece (bite). Best part is that it wasn't even my birthday!

Let's see...did I destroy anything? Oh, right..I got a hold of my mom's book and chewed on her new bookmark that she bought. I didn't completely destroy it, but I was pretty close. Oh, yeah...I forgot...I got a hold of the cordless phone and chewed off part of the antenna. That's 2 cordless phones I have done that to now!
Oops...I did it again. I destroyed something I shouldn't have. I can't take all the blame though. Mommy left the cable remote control on the couch. It was irresistable. Another remote in the trash. I think this is like my 3rd or 4th. I noticed they were putting the darn remote in a drawer for a while. They started trusting me and I hadn't touched it for a couple of months. Well, yesterday I noticed I couldn't find any remote controls to chew on.

I got to go to the big dog park yesterday with my sister. We had a lot of fun! I got home and I was so exhausted. Mommy seemed happy about that. Maybe she thinks I'm a cutie when I sleep? OR she gets a break? Nah, it has to be because I'm a cutie. Anyway, overall I had a good weekend. Hope the rest of my dog pals did too!

Okay, let's see...what did I destroy this week? YAWN...nothing spectacular...maybe it's because mommy was watching me like a hawk. I got hold of paper and shredded it to pieces and I got a good few chews on a pen before it got confiscated. I'll let her tell you about it in her diary. It was bone-chilling cold. Cold enough for mommy to put a sweater on me when we went for our walks. I hate that darn sweater, but at the same time I sure do feel warmer wearing it.

Hey Pup Pals! You know what this means?! For most of us, our family will be with us for the weekend. I got pretty lucky this week. My uncle was around and he took us for walks during the day. I got to go to the dog park 3 times too!

I thought I would try to do something fun each week. I'm pretty famous in my house for destroying something, whether big or small. This week, it was my mom's work shoe! It was her fault; she left her closet door wide open just inviting me in. The shoe was right there just begging for me to chomp on it (hehehehehe...I did)

Even though it's supposed to be some president's birthday, they don't get the day off. I had a good day though. Went for a couple of good long walks. We haven't had much snow this winter so this is a real bummer. It snowed last weekend and I was so excited! The snow was pretty deep for me so I was running around like a bunny rabbit. Oh well...maybe we'll get some more snow before it gets warmer.
