Why do some people think I'm crazy? I just get excited to see other people and other dogs. Ok, I admit, I can appear to be a bit crazy, but I'm still a pup =(. When someone bends down to hug me, I get excited and jump up at their face to lick them, and I end up headbutting them. I do apologize for that but I just can't help myself. When someone puts me on their lap to pet me, it usually ends up with me going for their face and licking the hell out of them instead. I'm just really happy to be receiving affection, but I'd rather show my appreciation and give the affection myself. Everyone sees me as a very hyper shih tzu, but when it's just my Guardian and I, it's not like that at all. We have the best time together, even if it's just sitting on the couch or laying in bed and doing nothing. We rarely have guests, so when I do see other people, I get really excited =). But, when it's just the 2 of us, I'm actually pretty calm. I'm sorry, no one really gets to see that, but hopefully my excitement level when I see other people will go down as I get older. I'm not even 1 y/o yet. Almost though..... October 25 =).

Please have patience with me =(.

On July 30, 2006, Simba and I went to visit Scuffy and Chloe. My Guardian wanted to borrow their old playpen so he could put it around the perimeter of his apartment balcony. He's gonna let me go on the balcony WOOHOO! but the bars are too wide for me right now and I might fall through. We're only on the 2nd floor but my Guardian doesn't want to take any chances of me getting hurt.

Anyway, it's been a while since I've seen Scruffy. I don't even think I was wearing a topknot yet when I met him that one time. I was such a little ewok back then. Now I'm a big buff shih tzu! I'm even bigger than Simba and Chloe. I don't know who's genes made me this big. Maybe it was my mommy =). I kinda look like her now.

Well, some point during our visit, I started going after Scruffy trying to mount him. Now Scruffy is a mini-schnauzer, so he's a lil bigger than me, but I didn't care heehee. I followed him around and tried mounting him from behind and my hips just started pumping away. Even when he ran off, my hips would still be pumping in the air. And Scruffy would just sit somewhere and I'll stand right next to him and my hips would suddenly just start pumping automatically. I don't know what's wrong with me.... I'm already neutered! Should I seek professional help???

Anyway, that was my visit to Scruffy and Chloe's house....

Today is June 17, 2006 and I had a vet appointment just to check on my healing from the neutering, to check my eyes because of some cloudiness, and to get more heartworm medication. Everything went well =)! My eyes are fine and nothing to worry about, my healing is complete, and I got my meds. However, one little thing was that a babytooth is still in place that should've already come out and it just needs to be watched. Hopefully it will come out soon so it doesn't have to be extracted. Other than that, they all said I was a very good dog and that my Guardian is really lucky =)!

My Guardian also has been working on creating a DVD movie documenting my development from his 1st visit to my neutering/1st haircut. He just completed his project and has been sharing copies with all his friends. He is very proud of me and wants to show the world, but he's especially proud of his DVD creation heehee. It's his 1st movie project =). I think his next project will be working on Simba's movie =)!

Lastnight, June 8, 2006, I met a girl named Lexi. She's a tiny 9 week old yorkie, but she's a feisty gal with lots of energy. Right now I'm like 4 times her weight and totally tower over her, but that didn't stop her from playing and rough-housing me.

When I 1st entered her den, she was zipping back and forth across the kitchen floor with quite some speed, even with her short legs. Then we did the whole sniffing thing. I of course went straight for the butt. I just tried to follow her around the whole kitchen. This was exciting for me because I never met a dog much younger and smaller than me before. I was always the baby, the one with the puppy power. However, Lexi seems to have more puppy power than I ever had.

I started to chase her around and barked at her when I couldn't get to her. When she got more comfortable with me, she started to play with me and bite my ears, my tail, my neck, my face, everything. I wasn't too rough with her but when she got my tail, I'd drag her around in circles until she let go. If I got her on her back, I'd just lay my neck on her and pin her down. But she's squirmy so she can just get back up and start nipping at my ears or whatever. I can tell she's gonna be a handful.

I know I just got neutered, but I started to hump her a few times. Maybe it's just a force of habit. My Guardian is hoping that behavior will eventually go away.

Well, after all that play and eating all her food and drinking all her water, it was time to go back home.

I can't wait to see her again! Hopefully, she'll grow fast so she'll be big enough for me to really play with. And I can't wait for her to meet all my friends =)!

On June 5th, 2006, I had my neuter appointment scheduled at the Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees, NJ. My Guardian dropped me off at 7:30am and they gave me a shot that put me to sleep, but before I fell asleep, I heard my Guardian asking for me to be microchipped ZZZZZzzzzzz......

My Guardian got a call at 1:30pm from the AWA and was told that I woke up and all ready to be picked-up. When he arrived, he was told that I haven't been licking my incision area, but he decided to purchase a cone for my head anyway, just incase, to prevent me from licking it. He knows I'm a licker! It's better to be safe than sorry. He took me out to pee, but I was like WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED TO ME?!? But, I was able to pee and then we went straight home.

I was totally out of it when we got home. I just sat there and stared at nothing. I couldn't eat and I couldn't drink. All I could do is just lay down. My guardian put the cone around my neck but I didn't like it at all =(. Then he took it off to see if I'd start licking but I didn't. So, he left it off and we went to bed. He heard my stomach growling all night long.

The next morning, I was so hungry I just ate ate ate and didn't even notice my Guardian had already left for work. By mid-week I was already back to my old self. Hopefully, I don't have to experience anything like that ever again!

I promise to be good FOREVER!

On June 4th, friends came over for poker and Chloe's Guardian's brought her with them WOOHOO! I have to try and get my kicks while I still can! The moment that she arrived I would not leave her alone. I followed her everywhere and sniffing her as I followed. I'd inch forward to play and she'd turn and snap at me forcing me to run for my life. But that wouldn't keep me away for too long. I'd quickly run back to her and bark to let her know I'm a true man. But everytime I'd inch forward, she'd snap at me again and again. She even got me to lay submissive on the floor a few times. Man, Chloe is a feisty one, but I must keep at it! We basically did this whole routine all night until we got tired and collapsed. Simba just watched us most of the time. He's more into getting lots of affection from people.

Well, this was my last chase.... I think.... to be continued....

On June 3, 2006, I got my very 1st haircut for the upcoming heat of the summer. I was taken to 'The Barking Lot' in Medford, NJ. I seriously look like a blondie now! When my Guardian came to pick me up, even he thought I was a totally new dog. He was wondering if they mistakenly game him the wrong dog heehee. But after spending some time with me, he knew it was me. He tested me with the commands that I know, the sound of my bark, the expressions that I give, the way I walk, and the affection I'm use to giving =).

Everyone loves my new haircut and the new hair color that stands out. Move over BROWN, here comes BLOND! My haircut is pretty much the same as Simba's since we went to the same groomer, so we look cool together =)! The big question on everyone's mind was," Is Kovu fat under all that hair?" I'm 5 and a half months younger than Simba but I'm already heavier than him by maybe 2 pounds. I'm about 12 pounds right now. Well, it turns out, I'm not fat at all! I guess I'm just genetically a bigger dog. My body also looks kinda muscular looking enough for someone to say that I look a bit like a pitbull because my chest is wide.

Anyway, the New and Improved KOVU is here and everyone is lining up to see the show! ENJOY!

On Easter day, I met a girl. Her name was Macy. She's half dachshund and half maltese, from Maryland. She was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I couldn't help myself... I had to hump her. And then, she humped back =)! We took turns and followed each other around all day long. My guardian wasn't sure if he should just let me run around in and out of the house as I pleased, in fear of me running away, but Macy kept me in check =). Where ever Macy was, so was I. If she ran outside, then I would run after her. If she ran inside, I'd follow. She would never wander off away from the house in secret, so neither would I. My guardian was very pleased with me staying close by the Easter festivities and not wandering off, which was good cuz Simba was there too and he wanders off sometimes. Simba likes to play 'Catch me if you can!' My guardian was able to give more attention to helping watch over Simba, while I got to know my new female friend =).

There were also a lot of children around and it was my 1st time being around them. They quickly learned my name and kept repeating it and repeating it trying to get me to play with them. It was a bit stressful at 1st, but I quickly got use to all the attention.

Anyway, I can't wait to meet Macy again. She was a total babe!

Today is March 27th and lastnight was the start of my crate training. My Guardian put me in my crate overnight and I made it to the morning without any accidents WOOHOO! When I was let out of the crate in the morning, we immediately went outside for me to relieve myself. We were actually out there for a good 45 min. and all I managed to do was pee cuz I really had to. I didn't know I was supposed to poo outside too. I was trying to hold it until we got back inside cuz I know that the weewee pad is where I'm supposed to go. My guardian had to get ready for work so we went back inside. After a few nibles on my food, I ran to the weewee pad and pooed. Oh Well, it's only the 1st day. At least we know I'm able to hold it if I have to.

When my Guardian got back home from work, he decided to take me out again since I didn't poo on the weewee pad since this morning. So we walked and walked and walked and still nothing. Then, a friendly neighbor (and fellow dog owner) told us about a nice walk path along the water that was close by. When we got there, there was crazy poopie everywhere! So, I contributed to it all =). SUCCESS! Hopefully I'll get it right tomorrow morning.

Back in the apt., I was determined to grab my leash that was on the couch. After several tries, I made it onto the couch all by myself WOOHOO!

What an amazing day! Wish me luck on my crate training =)!

On 2/11/06 I got my last round of shots for the year and I'm now fully vaccinated and ready to go out and see the world. I weighed 7.4 lbs and it looks like I'm gonna be a pretty big shih tzu at my adult size. My loving guardian took more pics at 4 months old for you all to see. Unfortunately, I have bad timing when it comes to picture taking and at times it looks like the picture was already taken, so most pics show me walking away. My guardian was only able to post up a few good pics from that session =). On 2/28/06, I learned the SIT command. Its a great command cuz I get a treat every time I get it right. I hope there are more commands to learn, but not too many... I'm getting a bit chubby for the treats =).

My 1st New Year's I got to play with Simba more and I learned to bark =). I have a cute lil bark right now but I don't do it that often, just once in a while =). Also, I learned to move furniture around in my den and make a complete mess. I discovered how much fun it is to chew and move my weewee pad around. Now, at home, my guardian puts weights on top of my weewee pad so I can't drag it around. At Simba's place, my pee got all over the floor in my play pen and it got all over me and my toys. They had to wash all my toys and when I got home, I had to be given a bath cuz I seriously smelled like urine. I hate baths =(!

For the most part, when I'm home, I pee and poo on the weewee pad pretty well. If I'm playing outside my den, my guardian makes sure to watch me so I don't have an accident. Right now, my sign is that I get a lil squirmy and anxious and start smelling the floor when I want to pee and poo, but accidents do happen. I am still just a baby =). But I'm learning pretty fast and I have a great teacher.... my awesome guardian =)!

On 12/24/05, Xmas Eve, I was staying at Simba's place waiting for midnight to strike. My guardian was watching both Simba and I until Simba's guardian came back from Atlantic City. Simba and I got to play together once in a while for a lil bit only cuz Simba's so much bigger than me and plays a lil rough with me. I'm still a small fry compared to him. Simba would play bite me and pin me down, but if I was pinned down on my back, I learned how to bite back, so I'd clamp onto Simba's long beard and pulled at it which got him to step away. Our play may have looked kinda dangerous for me, but I was actually having the time of my life. I couldn't stop wagging my tail =)! It was nice for both of us to have a playmate and to get some exercise. Simba also taught me how to growl a lil, but my guardian wasn't too happy about that heehee =). Another thing he wasn't too happy with was that I learned to mess up my play pen by moving my training pad around and biting the hell out of it. Anyway, my guardian didn't give me as much attention while I was at Simba's cuz Simba is like the 1st dog and gets a lil jealous, so they had to goto him 1st with everything. I guess it's just something I have to get use to unless we're home at my guardian's apartment =).

Simba's guardian came home some time b4 midnight and we all couldn't wait, but midnight finally came and we got to open our very 1st xmas presents. Simba got a really big Nala stuffed animal that's the same size as him. I got 2 disney beanie babies of Kovu & Kiara. We also got some yummy treats from Chloe's guardians. Pics were taken of us trying to open our gifts too =).

What a great 1st xmas! I can't wait for the next!

On 12/19/05, my guardian went to buy Simba and I some food and he scheduled an appointment for my next shots. When he came back, Simba and I got to play together for a bit. He seemed very watchful of me and curious. After my guardian registered me online thru the AKC, it was time to pack up and head for home. Simba was placed in his den in the kitchen area and he sounded very sad to see me go when he was just getting to know me. He howled as we walked out the door =(. This time, my guardian had to put me in the traveling crate so he can drive us.

The drive wasn't too bad. My guardian was worried that I wouldn't be able to make it home b4 peeing and pooing but I was able to do so. When we got home he showed me my very own den. I get the WHOLE KITCHEN =)! SO much more room to run and jump around. I have a nice soft bed and cool toys to chew on. HOME AT LAST!!!! And so began my new bond with my new guardian, full of love, play, pictures, and let's not forget.... poop =). I'm getting better as using my weewee pad. I've had a few accidents elsewhere in the beginning, but so far, I've managed to stay on the pad with the proper praises from my guardian. Sometimes when he's not there when I want to go, I get sad cuz he's not there to give me the praise afterwards =(. My guardian took a few days off to help me settle into my new home, but he goes back to work tomorrow =(. At least he gets out early from work tomorrow and I don't have to suffer being alone for too long. WISH ME LUCK =)!

Stayed tuned for XMAS@SIMBA'S!

On 12/18/05, my guardian came to bring me home WOOHOO! I made sure I was lively as ever when he arrived. I also learned to be more licky like my bro so I could give my guardian love licks when I saw him =). My bro still had one more day b4 his guardian brings him home. I'm gonna miss him and my mommy and my shih tzu family a lot, but I know I'll be meeting a new wonderful family that I will love just as much and maybe even more =).

Finally, we left and I saw a traveling crate my guardian intended to use bringing me home but he decided to hold me instead to begin our close bond =). First, we arrived at Simba's place and Simba was eagerly awaiting my arrival. My guardian set up a nice little pen area for me which was nice, but I wanted to go explore outside the pen and play with Simba. But, b4 that, Simba's and my guardian cut the hair away from my eyes so I can see my new world better and then they gave me my 1st bath. It was SOOO weird, but I guess it's something I just have to get use to. Then it was Simba's turn for a bath which took longer cuz his hair is going thru a crazy matting stage. Simba's guardian is thinking of giving him a puppy cut. While Simba was drying up, another Shih Tzu playmate came over. Her name was Chloe and she's just a month and half younger than Simba and she can pin him down heehee =). Chloe is a black and white Shih Tzu. I had to watch from my pen as Simba and Chloe chased each other around and played. My guardian decided to let me out for a bit to see how they would interact with me. Chloe and Simba were very curious but Simba was the one that I wanted to play rough with cuz I was watching him play from my pen. Chloe was more calm with me and just watched me. I showed everyone I know how to pounce at Simba. Simba is too big for me to play with right now so I had to go back into my pen =(.

At night, Simba usually sleeps upstairs, but he decided to sleep downstairs and watch over me. My guardian also slept downstairs to watch over me. Simba slept on my guardians chest, who was on the couch. This was my 1st night away from my bro and my family so it was very scary and unfamiliar to me so I didn't sleep much. But, I did my best knowing Simba and my guardian were close by. The next day I will be going to my true home to spend some quality time with my new guardian. Home sweet home, here I come!

The day is 12/11/05 and my guardian came for his 3rd visit b4 actually bringing me home. I can tell my guardian loves me so much already... he can't stop visiting me heehee =). My breeder said that he can pick me up on 12/18/05 which is in a week. This is going to be the longest week EVER for the both of us! My breeder said that my bro's guardian also came by and took a whole bunch of pics of him. Today, I showed my guardian how much my baby teeth are growing in... he said I have a pretty strong bite for a lil guy =). My bro is bigger than me but he's more of a licker. While I was chewing my guardians fingers, my bro was licking them at the same time. And like b4, my bro was wimpering for some attention. My guardian picked me up and gave me a bunch of kisses so I decided to give him some of my lil kissy licks to his scruffy face. It tickled my tongue =). Once again, being as young and small as we are, we fell fast sleep. My bro fell asleep 1st and I went to join him once my guardian placed me down in our pen. One more week and my new life will finally begin. Stay tuned for more exciting stories as we venture into THE CHRONICLES OF KOVU.... The Puppy, and The Poopie, and The Weewee Pads!

Today is 11/28/05 and I am about 4 weeks and 3 days old. My future guardian came back for his second visit, but he was a bit late. My bro and I had just finished a really energetic play session. Simba and his owner also came along =). My Guardian was really excited to see me and how much I've grown. I tried to let him see me in action as much as possible but I was getting really tired. I'm still really small and I still walk funny so I just wobbled around my pen as everyone watched. I showed them I know how to use a weewee pad =) and how to drink out of my water bottle. This whole time, my bro kept wimpering and I kept looking at him wondering what his deal was, so I decided to tug on his ear and tail a few times and just follow him around. My Guardian picked me up and we took a picture together. Then, when he put me down, I decided to show some affection and tried to climb onto his hand. I'm not really good at climbing yet so I just sucked on his fingers instead and licked his hand. I like my guardian... he's cool. I can't wait for him to take me home and to play with me. My breeder was telling them stories about how my ancestors are mostly championship shih tzus. Maybe one day I can grow up to be just like them =). Well, in a matter of minutes, my bro and I knew dreamland was right around the corner so we passed out together with my head on his back. The funny thing is that all the adult shih tzus in the house decided to take a nap as well. As I sleep I will dream of happy times with my new guardian in my new home. I hope he comes to visit again soon. G'NITE ALL =)!

OMG! This long wait is killing me! I can't wait to bring Kovu home! He's not even here and I love him so much already heehee =).

I just watched 'The Lion King II: Simba's Pride' lastnight and I finally got to hear Kovu's name being used. A good friend helped me choose the name and I love it more every day. I can't wait to use it myself.... KOVU! Some people don't like the name because it's not very catchy, but I don't care.

My kitchen is all set up as Kovu's den. I already have everything I need for Kovu's arrival... his bed, toys, bowl, water bottle, traveling crate, food, collar, leash, etc. Now I just have to wait for him to be old enough to part from his mommy.

Thank god for Simba! I've helped take care of him a few times and he's been nothing but joy to be with! I've learned so much from Simba and I hope to raise Kovu to be as wonderful as him.

Be safe Kovu! Hope all is well with you and see you soon =)!

Always,
Your Loving Guardian

On saturday afternoon, 11/12/05, my brother and I met my future guardian for the 1st time. He was cool and seemed very interested in me. He came with his friend who has a Shih Tzu named Simba. My breeder was showing them my white vertical stripe on my forehead and my white chest. Mommy and Grandma seemed very protective of us as they watched closely while everyone handled us. I was very sleepy so I just basically laid there in their hands as they checked me out =) and took a bunch of pictures. My bro was a bit squirmy... I think he was hungry. Simba was there and also came from my breeder. She is very proud of how well he is taken care of. I hope to be just like Simba one day. I know we're going to be the best of friends =). I can't wait to go home to my new family. Hopefully, I'll be in my new home in time for my 1st xmas holiday! Until then, HELLO MOMMY! FEED ME! ME HUNGRYS!!! =)
