A Sad day around here, as today marks the two year mark that
B.J. left us. He had fought his cancer, Lymphoma, couragiously, for 2 1/2 years.
He died the Saturday, right before Memorial Day. May 28. 2006.
This Saturday, before Memorial Day, we adopted a Seen year old Male Miniature Schnauzer, Amos, who looks like a young B.J.
Amos's owner , is older and not in good health and wanted Amos to have a good home. His son lives on my old mail route and I had met Amos, about two years ago, or so, when he was up visiting from Florida. So, this was a very easy decision, on our part.
Will be adding Amos, to the Dogster Family shortly.
WE MISS YOU B.J.!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday, about 4:15 pm, our B.J. died. I was driving him to the vets, after a couple of down days, from his cancer and chemo.
He had just celebrated his 30 th anniversary, since being diagnosed with Lymphoma.
He was a good friend, one heck of a cancer warrior and even in death, took the decision, I dreaded to make, from me.

Hello everyone,
Sorry its been so long since I posted, but, a lot of things going on.
I am now in my 28th month of treatment and just back into remission. I slipped out, but, Dr. Mann got me right back in, which is my third remission.
I lost a little bit of hair, this last couple of weeks, but, it is starting to grow back already.
I am still having fun and enjoy chasing squirrels and chipmunks and "splashing" the geese.

Hi,
Our Dad added two of our three Angels to our family tonight.
I know Rocco from when I was just a puppy, coming into the family.
She took to me like one of her sons. She taught me a lot in the three years we knew each other.
I never knew Angel Sweetness, but, I am named after him, as Rob, called him Buddy,,,,and I am Buddy Junior.
Our Dad says we are just alike....quiet, laid back,,,,but, mess with us and you have to pay.
As far as me, I am still doing good in my cancer fight!!! This is now my 26th month of treatment and I still feel and look good......
I wish our Dad could get all of the sweet gum balls out of our yard, as they hurt my paws,,,,he tries but there must be millions of them.
Got to go now,,,,,way past our bedtime

HELLO EVERYONE,
TWO YEARS AGO TODAY, MY DAD GOT A CALL FROM OUR LOCAL VET, THE THE BIOPSY CAME BACK POSITIVE, I HAD CANCER, LYMPHOMA.
My Dad could have just said, sorry B.J., it is over for you and had me put to sleep.....but, he is a fighter and told me to fight it with him.
A lot of folks told him, hey, he is JUST A DOG!, just put him down.
Well, I am more then JUST A DOG, to my family and the fight was on.
We have a great vet team, a huge support family and a lot of prayers helping me.
I eat mostly a homemade diet, some supplements and a lot of love. Plus, I have Butkus, one of my sons, who helps me quite a bit.
Dad decided to go against the norm, which is taking a break from chemo and we went to non stop chemo....why give the cancer a chance to come back and hurt me?????
Presently I am on the CCNU protocol and get treatments every three weeks. I feel like a puppy and enjoyed being with my wife and one of my other sons, Brewski for Christmas yesterday, in Lafayette Ga.
Please keep the prayers coming my way.....they help

Sorry we haven't written lately, but, a lot of things going on.
Yesterday, I completed my 22nd month, since being diagnosed with cancer, Lymphoma. I am still in remission, maintaining my weight and my CBC looks excellent.
At our last vet visit, Dr. Mann noticed an irregular heartbeat, so we did some additional testing. We did a Holt Monitor test, for 24 hours and it came off today, thank goodness, as it was heavy and on too tight. I couldn't even chase squirrels with it on, what a bummer.
We should get the results early next week. My Dad is feeling comfortable, as well as my vet, that it was not caused by the Adriamyacin treatment, but, still switched me to the CCNU protocol. We will continue that, till my two year mark, 12-26-05 and then take a break from chemo. Dad elected not to take a break, from chemo, for me, which is kind of the normal thing to do. Well, fighting cancer is not a normal thing to do, so whatever My Dad says, I do.
I still look good, feel good and am so glad that we decided to fight this cancer, instead of not trying at all.
Dad says we might all go, He, Butkus and I, and get all of our pictures taken with the Hooter Girls Saturday night..
Butkus has never been to Hooters, well, not when they are open, so it might be a nice treat for him, as he is my son and my best friend.
Later,

Well, yesterday, I had my recheck and bloodwork drawn, for a CBC, to check
my system. Well, one of the old time techs, came in with a "rookie". THey took
me, to get blood from me. Well, they had problems finding a vein and ended up not drawing enough blood, for the CBC .
So, the tests came back showing all kind of crazy things going on with me.
Our vet, Dr. Mann, asked my Dad, if he could draw more blood and send it to the lab, to make sure, it was done right....free of charge.
Then, we were checking out, Dad got some Frontline, for us...it ended up, they double charged him.
When he went to get an appointment, for two weeks from now, for my Adrianmyacin treatment, he was told there weren't any appointments, available. The regular woman, interrupted the conversation and explained that our Dr. Mann, was in charge of dropoffs, that day and just for Dad to bring me in, between 7:30 and 8:30.
When we got home, Dad called and got the second Frontline credited, to our account.
I was pround of our Dad, as he works for the Post Office and I was glad, that he didn't go "POSTAL" at the vets, or on the phone.
We had a good dinner, of Homemade meatballs, cut up roast, some Solid Gold Chicken over Solid Gold, Hollistique Blendz, dry.
Then Dad entertained Butkus and I, by weedwacking, down by the lake.
He actually got time, to fish a little bit, from shore.
Then, our neighbor dogs, finally got into chasing squirrels, with us, on their side of the fence. Heh Heh, the squirrels really got confused, as normally, they can just run from our yard to theirs, and get away.
Life is good!

Sorry I haven't posted lately, but, Dad has been busy trying to keep the grass
mowed, in betweeen t storms. He told Our Mom, that he might have to tie flags to our tails, in order to find us, in the backyard.
I am in my 20th month of treatment , against lymphoma cancer and everything is looking good.
So glad our friend, Little Bit, made Dog of the Week, as, we need to keep making folks aware, that animals can and do get cancer. Cancer is not the "death sentence", that it once was, so, we are making progress, against it.
Dad has several "cancer survivor" friends and so do I.

Hello everyone,
Well, about a month ago, our Dad, bought some good looking plastic food
bowls, at Big Dogs..mine says " I AM THE BIG DOG!,
Well, we had been eating out of stainless steel dog bowls, but, we figured what the heck, we can make our Dad happy.
Well, something went wrong with the bowls, as I stopped eating real good, then almost stopped totally. our Dad thought it might be a reaction to the chemo drugs, but, it wasen't.
He seems to think the dishwasher must have taken the top layer off the plastic and food got in the bowl, making it smell, so therefore we didn't like it.
Back to the stainless steel bowls and back to eating like a King.

Didn't like being away from my family, but, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
Traci gave me the treatment and spent a long time with me, which was great,
as she is one great vet tech.
Came home and ate good at supper, but, Dad says I don't look real great, but,
that is expected with the drugs killing the cancer cells.
It is hot and humid here in McDonough Ga, with T storms expected, so why stay

Hello,
Well, we have been busy busy busy. My Red Blood Count has been dropping
and I have been losing weight. So, we have done a lot of testing and
looks like I am slowly coming out of remission.
This is the 19th month, since I was diagnosed with cancer, Lymphoma.
So, today I start using a rescue drug, Adriamyacin, which is supposed to
be one of the best drugs available to help put me back into remission.
Dad added B12 vitamin to my food, for about a week now and I stayed the same
weight as last week and my RBC went up 2.
So it looks like we are staying ahead of the cancer.
Will write later today.

My Dad stopped one drug, last Sunday, cause he noticed that I didn't feel
real good later in the day, after I took it. I have been losing weight and
my red blood count has been dropping. Well, we had to go back to our vets
Thurs and get more blood drawn.
Well, per the people that test the blood, I am not in good shape and we needed
to stop the chemo and other things.
Well, My Dad got things rolling and I am off chemo, but, guess what,,
it was one of the chemo drugs, that was making me sick. My Dad and our vets
don't know it yet...cause they need tests to find out.
If I told you what our Dad fixed for us, you probably not believe it..O.K.
here goes.
Baked Angus beef, eye of the round roast, well done and pulled.
homemade lean meatballs, halved.
chicken liver, fried and cut up
Hard boiled egg, about 1/4
Steamed broccoli and califlower
green beans
cooked brown rice
served over Solid Gold Hollistique Blenz dry dogfood
On top was some Solid Gold canned, with Life Exxtension, supplement hidden
in it...I knew it, but, ate it anyway. Figured if my Dad and Mom went to all
of the trouble to fix our food,,,,I would eat it.
Guess what the best part is???/ They made a two week supply for us and put
it in Foodsaver bags and froze it.
Yes, we really do eat like this every day, plus, we get to sample the meat,
after it is cooked and cooled down, to make sure it meets our approval.
Heh Heh....It always does!!!!
Say a prayer for me, that the cancer does not come back because I love my
family and want to stay here for a long long time

I had my chemo appt today and it went excellent. I weigh 25.2 lbs and
my CBC {bloodwork} looks almost normal. Well, I got my chemo injection
and Dad and Dr. Rudd, talked a little bit. Dad said this was my
18th month of treatment and originally we were told 16-18 month with
treatment, for me to live.
Well, Dr. Rudd told Dad that being this far along in treatment, against
lymphoma cancer and to be in remission the whole time is excellent. The fact
that I had an infected sore by my right eye heal in about three days
is unusual for a dog on chemo, as the immune system is too weak to fight it.
He said that we might start talking about me being cured.. Yippee!!! Wow!!!
Dr. Rudd says he is still treating a dog, that was diagnosed with the same
cancer I have. This dog was diagnosed five years ago and has been off chemo
for the last three years.
I knew I was doing good in my cancer fight, but, the is the best news we
could have got. My 7th birthday is Friday and we are celebrating already.

I am a honorary Henry County Animal Control Officer, so I proceeded to

Butkus and I attempted to apprehend him. We were hot and heavy on his tail,

Our Dad figured out the computer problem, he was having. Seems like
the printer was causing all of the problems. Well, he bought a new
printer, at Big Lots and we are back to being good.
He paid $79.00 for a printer, instead of $1000.00 plus, for a new computer.
We got sad news today, Bullet, an Alaskan Malemute, lost his battle
with lymphoma, last night. Our Dad. works with his Mom's sister, and they
all say he was just a "gentle Giant" as he wieghed about 165 lbs.
We go to the same local vet and the same specialist, plus, we are on the

well, my Dad really loves me and really is into this cancer fight.
Today, he took me with to Hooters, to get some of the V foundation orange
wrist bands or bracelets. We got to our McDonough Hooters at 10:30, they were
closed, but the door was open. Of course, Dad went in, they quickly told
him they were not open and would open at noon. Well, Dad told them he just
wanted to buy some of the bracelets. Well, one Hooter girl found some
behind the counter and he bought ten of them, only $1.00 a piece.. all proceeds
going to the American Cancer Society. He then asked the girl, if she
would like to pose with me....she said o.k.
Next thing I know, he comes to the car, puts me on my leash and I get out of
the car. Well, when I saw the Hooter Girl smiling at me,,,,,,,I bounced
a bit. she called four of her friends outside....Dad took two pictures of
me and the Hooters girls, but, he is smart enough not to post them here.
They were really busy getting ready for the race crowd, but, still took time for us and made us feel like a million.
Dad says that Hooters is a very classy place, especially cause they took
good care of me and they are sponsoring a very needy cause,,,,,helping all
of us in the fight against cancer.
The bracelet says "don't give up".....I will fight with all of my might, as,
my family and a lot of friends, including Hooters, is behind me.
B.J.
p.s. I never have had a wing or a beer, but, Dad says, he will make sure
that I get both, but, never tells me when

Yesterday, was our one year anniversary on Dogster.
Yippee.....
Being on Dogster has helped us out quite a bit.
We joined from a tip from Kim Komando's website, for a cool site to visit.
Well, at the time, it was a real scary time for me and my Dad. I was just
diagnosed with cancer, lymphoma and things didn't look good.
We found www.endlesslove@yahoogroups.com, through Dogster, a support group
for people with pets with cancer, that has been super.
We found out about a super dogfood company, Solid Gold, who has the best
treats in the world, lamb lung treats....simply the best.
Our Dad says the best thing about Dogster, is the folks that run it really
care about its members....I second that.
Dad says if he is a little down, he can come here and check out some
of the other dogs and actually start laughing, eventhough he feels like
crying, before he gets on line. Why would he want to cry???? I don't, cause
our Dad says, "big dogs don't cry".........
Well, American Idol is on.....me and Butkus vote a lot and often.

Heh Heh we use Dad's cell phone

Staying at our motel were quite a few gymnests, between 10 and 12, or so. We got petted and loved on all weekend.
Dad told our Mommy that it took him longer to walk us down the hall, then the actual walk outside to do our duty.
I had a vet visit today and our vet said my left lypmh node is my neck is slightly enlarged, by nothing for concern. I got a vincristine injection so, it should be back to normal size tomorrow.

Wow! I have gotten so many e mails, phone calls and barking in the neighbood has been non stop, even since Dad got the news this morning.
Butkus set up a lemonade stand, to help pay for the printer ink that Dad is using to print all of the stuff, for my memory book.
Wow, to be picked out of all of the dogs on Dogster, just makes me feel so good..
Butkus isn't even a little bit jealous, which surprises me. If I get petted, he has to and the same with getting treats.
Got a lot of emails from friends, made some new friends and new pup pals.
On a serious note, ask your Dads and Moms to check you for any lumps or strange feeling things on you. My Dad caught my cancer early and gave the vets the chance to treat me, while I was still in excellent health.
Just takes a little time, not much, compared to if it is not caught early.
Keep in mind, there are too many dogs and cats, with cancer, way too many.
We have lost too many of our furbaby friends to cancer and not because they were not loved or cared for.
So, let's all pray that a cure can be found, for humans and animals and beat this beast,,,cancer

That phone call, rocked his world, but, he got real focused to help keep me around.
I am still doing vincristine injections, every other week and leukeran and prednisone, every other day. Dad does not want to "invite" my cancer back to being active, by dropping chemo for any time.
I don't mind the chemo, as, I know it is helping me fight my cancer.
My Dad said that I am getting a ton of emails, from our friends at Endless Love and Cannine cancer awareness congratulating me on my milestone.

First of all, I weighed 27 lbs. My CBC was above normal, which was great,
as it was at barely making it for awhile. The cytoxan cleared my system, so that
is great.
I squelled when I got my injection, first time for that in 10 months, but, it hurt.
Dr. Mann and everyone else was shocked, but, I couldn't help it.
I got a new prescription drug , Leukeran, to help me battle this darn cancer.
Had my first pill this morning, and so far so good.

Heard Dad talking to mommy tonight and didn't realize I scared him
this morning. I didn't eat at all, as I usually don't the morning
after my chemo injection. I also, turned down my favorite treats.
I went downstairs and laid down on the quilt and pillows, Dad set up for us.
We had a bed there, but, Dad is getting ready to paint and he moved
it out. I was just chilling out and when he kissed me goodbye, he thought
that I moaned. Well, Butkus was upstairs, by himself, which is really
unusual, as he always is right on me.,scared I might one more pet, kiss or
a treat then him. Well, Dad thought that I was not going to be alive,
when he got home from work, cause of all of this.
When he came home, we both were downstairs, so it took us awhile to meet
him at the door. Again, he thought oh no!, but, we gave him extra kisses and
got extra treats and one heck of a dinner. Homemade dog food and Solid Gold
dry, no supplements tonight. Burp. that was the garlic in the homemade,
sorry.....
A few of our Bud's that have been battling the same cancer, lymhoma, have
gone to the Rainbow Bridge and he thought............
No way, Butkus needs me around at least two more years, as, he is not
paying attention when I show him things. I promised our Dad, that before
I went anywhere that Butkus would be able to handle things, just like me.

Had a good visit today, no test, as my bladder was small, cause I
went to the bathroom, before we went in.
I got my vincristine injection and lots of love from Dr.Mann and his
tech. Still no definite on what is causing my UTI problems, but,
more then likely from the one chemo drug.
Get to go back next week.
We don't want to skip, right now and invite the cancer back. I have made it
ten months, since being diagnosed with lymphoma.
Dinner was good, as our Dad, cooked our chicken breast and steamed broccoli and califlower and mixed in the food processor.
I am so glad to have him for a Daddy

Well, today, we saw Dr.Mann and Dr. Rudd. I am still "spotting"
because of an urinary tract problem, so, they ran a few test and
sent off some more, to the lab.
I feel good, but, have to go potty alot and sometimes can't get outside
before I pee. I feel bad, but, Dad gives me treats and tells me not
to worry. Wow, I thought he would be mad and no more treats, but, he understands
cause I never do my duty in the house.
I got new medications and feel a little better, but, like Dad, a little worried
what the tests might show. We should know tomorrow, or at the latest Friday.
Fighting cancer is hard work, but, my family and my vets give me the chance to win, so I fight as hard as I can, cause I love all of them so so much.

Instead of usiing the food processor, our dad just used a knife.
Well, we have cut up chicken breast, cooked of course, califlower, broccoli and

I ate all of the chicken breast, dry and broccoli. I put the carrots out of the bowl, to the right and the califlower to the left. After going out to do our duty, I came back in and ate the califlower. left the carrots.

He mixed in cooked turkey, with his Tom's Pride dogfood. Guess what, we don't like turkey and we are not going to eat it.
We want CHICKEN .....AND ONLY CHICKEN
Otherwise, it was a good day

It rained all day today....did not get to go out an pee till 3:30 pm, till myh dad came home. Granny does not understand leaving the door to the basement open, will let us go out the dog door. We go out there because there is an overhang that keeps us from getting wet. Most Schnauzers don't like to get wet.
Hurricane Ivan was a bad, bad influence on our weather.
Our power went out, for about two hours.....it was fun,,,,no computer, no tv and windows and doors open...
The house smells a lot better

Went and saw Dr. Rudd today. Dad was right, I gained about a lb.
I weighded 28.2lbs...I wanted a reweigh, but, the girl said no.
My bloodwork showed my white blood cell count, down from last time
but, still a little high. Last week, the vet said I had a "flare up"
of my lymphoma, as the lymphnodes in my neck swelled to grape size.
A change in my chemo drugs and good eating at home, they were normal size today.
I get to go back, to see our specialist next Wed, and check the blood again.
We left my son Butkus home, as, Dad didn't know what to expect, but, we promised Butkus could go next week.
It's starting to rain, so, I am going to watch the Cubs, with Dad

9-13-04
Day started at 5 am, when I had to out and do my duty. Got in, with my son
Butkus and we got treats..Wow, just for not peeing or pooping in
the house....such a deal.
5:30 am we got to eat...Homemade dog food, dad calls it "Tom's Pride" makes it with real chicken, broccoli, carrots, califlower, spinach, hard boiled egg, dah of garlic powder. It is all cooked. Plus, he mixed in Solid Gold Hollistiqe Blendz, a dry dog food, to help keep us regular, whatever that means.
6 am back in from going out, another set of treats.
Then the meds. Prednisone and Cyclophosphamide, to help fight my cancer....
Then we get more treats
Boring day, cause Dad and Mom both work. We spend the day with Granny, who is no fun...
6pm eat the same good food we had this am ...out and in ...out and in
Then antibiotic for bacterial infection and more treats, plus a pet tabs.
Oh, did I tell you about the darn squirrels, we almost caught, well close to catching.
1045 pm is bedtime, so, I need to go out again, so I can come in again and get ,,,,you guessed it more treats. We used to get a whole jerky treat, but, now it is only about a quarter of an inch in size....a whole one is about 3 inches long....
Somehow, I think I am getting cheated,,,,,well, no, at least I get petted and treated a lot more then before so it was a good day
Plus, my good friend Barney, an "honorary Schnauzer" made Dogster,,,,Dog Of the Day.. WooF Woof Woof
